Life Happens. Good luck with all the repairs and hang in there.

Got flooded by Matthew and Irma. Know all about flooding. Concrete floors are amazing. My tile and stone made it through both. The only things. Good luck and do lots of moisture checks.
Drew says
“Fans are still going”. My initial thought was “Well, of course we are. We love you guys.” Then I remembered the rain and flood. Hope you get dried out soon.
Joy says
I had the same thought Drew.!
Stacy says
Had the exact same thought process.
Good luck with repairs!
SusKie says
Of course, we are “Fans” and we are “Loud”, I think Authorlord gave us double meaning message. ?

I’m still a bit slow…my thought was ‘where are we going?’ LOL
Oona says
It took 3 days of fans to dry my basement out when it had an unscheduled failure of toilet water tank supply line (pin hole at that, but leaked all weekend undetected..) Serve Pro was good about getting it all dry. Needless to say I checked all the other tank supply lines immediately and updated to the flexible hose (not PC or Copper pipe..)
I feel really bad for the flood. I’ve had one other incidence of flooding where my front stairs down to the side walk were flood by an ice melt and damn situation. To stop it from reoccuring I installed a French drain system from one side of the lawn, under the side walk and over to the slope line…Cost me some, but saved my basement from getting wet!
Take your time and get to the Inn Keeper when you can, we all understand!

Teresa says
Love it. Made me laugh.
Kristine says
Lol, that was my first thought, too.
Louisa Paarsmarkt says
I hope everything gets back to normal as soon as possible! Because who likes loud fans, even if they’re needed?
Joy says
I had the same thought?. Keep dry!
Joy says
Sorry i clicked on the wrong comment. I need to go take a nap.
Lara says
Looking forward to seeing the next installment
William B says
Been there and done that with the fans and dehumidifiers.
Anne says
Best wishes! Hope all settles out a bit soon!

Is the new tower purdy?
I hope the repairing of dry wall isn’t too disruptive.
William B says
Rather than replace the drywall why not try waistcoating?

Gald you are back online. Know how traumatic it can be. Sometimes when you fire up your computer you almost expect this. Also just want to yell at everyone that my daughter got screen credit as a Scene Set/Quality Control artist on the “My Little Pony Movie.” I am so proud of her.
Laura says
Congratulations to your daughter!
Pat Crouch says
That’s wonderful!
Teresa says
How cool is that. Love it.
Patricia Schlorke says
Congratulations to your daughter! I can’t believe My Little Pony is coming back. ?
Marianne says
Congratulations to your daughter, and to you! That is wonderful. It is so gratifying to see a child succeed. Ilona, I hope that your kid #1 finds (if she hasn’t already) a job where she is happy and successful. ?
Prospero says
Thank you. Her success is due to all her hard work over the years..
Ms. Kim says
From a fan, Go Authorlords! I know you will persevere and overcome.
Tina in NJ says
It’s a holiday weekend. Even though your kids are (mostly) grown, take the time to enjoy it. Thanks for the update. I will look forward to Inkeeper whenever you get to it.
Keera says
Good luck!
Rowena says
I hope you get a wonderful, relaxing vacation soonl
Ms. Kim says
Should we now be known as Book Devouring Fans (BDF) instead of BDH. Nah, doesn’t convey the numbers. How about BDH of Fans (BDHF)?

? love it

Or Book Devouring Fans Horde! ?

Hang in there! It would all turn out fine. Take your frustrations out on the villains! Make them suffer!!!!!

Ooh, Seveline vs. Lady Ilemina in a sword fight. Or Seveline vs one of the Nuan nieces.
Karin says
I just want to see Seveline with that fork sticking out of her throat. She’d be so pretty with that fork…
Violet says
Hang in there, and good luck with the great dry-out! Hopefully the new tower will be a sturdy and long-lived workhorse.
Sherri says
It makes me cringe just thinking about setting up a new desktop.
Teresa says
I am cringing but must set mine up this weekend. Lady in line said it would be easy.
kommiesmom says
Aannnd, we’ve all heard that one before.
Good luck, and I hope you don’t need it.
Henry says
Thank you for being there. We can wait.
Sleepy says
Texas seems like such a hard place to live somehow… where I live there are no hurricanes, floods, freak storms, etc…
As a PC nerd, hope you’re liking your new laptop 🙂
Vicki says
The type of stress you’re under is not good. Forget Innkeeper until things are under more control for you. We understand. We don’t want you to get a stress ulcer worrying about getting an Innkeeper chapter out even though we love the story! It’s a holiday weekend go hunt for Easter eggs and chocolate rabbits while your house dries out. I have been flooded and know how loud those fans can be. Then you have to have the fungicide applied that really makes allergies kick in. Do what you can to relax and unstress
Fan in California says
“Life is loud.”. Drink (a) margarita(s) to quiet!! ?
Vanessa C says
A couple of years ago a built in sump pump failed in our basement. Most of the water went into the just completed side of the basement, (naturally). The carpet and padding and walls were all very wet. We listened to fans and ran heaters for 2 weeks. In addition to the noise, the electric bill was tremendous. I can certainly commiserate. At least my computer wasn’t down there too. Sorry for all of the extra work, but know that we readers really appreciate your efforts and I hope that setting up the new tower isn’t too difficult.
Catlover says
Progress is being made! Primal screaming to relieve frustration and deep breathing to center yourself. (Just warn the neighbors so they don’t call the police!). Whatever works to slog your way through all the aggravation.
Elizabeth says
I hear ya! Sometimes life sucks. Just got a new house in August. Last month was the plumbing with a large hole 15 feet long in the basement floor. This week the furnace died. Then both kids spontaneously gave me a hug and life was better! Hang in there, it will turn around.
Thanks for all the great writing.
Cynthia says
Check and make sure the flood or possibility of floods is NOTa regular thing!! If it is there are precautions you can do. Been there.
Pat Crouch says
Progress! I’m glad you are getting some. I wish you many happy productive years with your new electronics. Your fans can wait
Viktoria says
Welcome back to the beautiful chaos ?
Sharon A says
Commiserating here. Had a washing machine overflow once that didn’t get caught for awhile. Servpro is awesome. The fans are loud, but they really do help!
Bibliovore says
Best of luck with clean up. Take your timer to recover. We will continue to wait and check for posts.
Kelly says
Thank you for the update amidst the chaos! Good luck with the cleanup!
Terra says
So sorry you had to go through all that! Did you not paint blood over the doorways so the F**k Up Fairy would pass over?
Teresa says
Hehehe
JoAnn Arnold says
I worked in a public library that needed the roof redone. They assured us we would not have any leaks. Of course we had a bad storm and it leaked, all over the 700-900 non fiction and reference section. They did respond immediately and took the worst book to be treated. They hung heavy plastic around the area (about half of the adult side of the building) and ran huge fans for about a week. I know what you are going through.
kommiesmom says
Many years ago, the university that I attended had a small construction mishap. An excavator / backhoe hit a water main. The leak wasn’t noticed and the construction crew went home for the weekend.
The problems were two-fold. The construction site was next to the library and the Rare Book room was in the basement. (Basements in Houston are usually a bad idea anyway.)
When the leak was noticed, the room was already soaked. The really fragile things went to NASA to be freeze-dried and the newer/sturdier books were dried on campus by student volunteers. Basically, they paged through the books and put paper towels between the pages.
Needless to say, fragile or vital things no longer hang out in the basement any more.
Earle Davis says
Did you get the laptop fixed also? Hope so. Get dry, have a great Easter. Worry about the writing when Monday comes around
TJ says
NOOOOOoooo not loss of Internet!! Oh the humanity!!!!!
Well and i’m sure it’ll ALSO be nice when your house is dry again 😉
Much luck to the both of you getting all water & tech issues sorted!
Ms. Kim says
Was that a WKRP reference?
susan k nagata says
I’m glad that you got back online. So sorry about the dead computer. I know what a pain it is to re-install all of your Must Have programs. I can wait for Innkeeper. I would rather wait so that you can get some breathing room. One day to do absolutely nothing work related would be a good thing for you. Maybe Sunday would work? After you get sloshed on margaritas Saturday night 😀
Teresa says
I wonder how Orro would describe Easter?
Timelady says
I’m a 25 year IT geek, and former academic now at uni in IT project work and research. Everything tells me it’s logical – but I’ve seen too many computers due at critical moments to not believe the little sods grok our anxiety;) probably why I’ve started AI study and research – if you can’t beat them…;)
And it isn’t that we are patient – we are (or should be) so damn grateful for your creativity and generosity. Back to my Time Team marathon on YouTube before study time. Or a reread of all your books before study time is as likely too – if my teen gives them back (yay ebook duplicates – always buy both!).
Tea is good, and work to your sanity. We will all be here:)
Patricia Schlorke says
Yay for the new tower! Please don’t worry about getting the next installment out. We can be waiting somewhat patiently. Maybe…just a little while longer…holding on with the tips of the fingers. ?
wont says
Glad to hear from you. A new tower sounds great, even if it’s for work.
Hope the noise is gone soon.
Abby says
Is it bad that when I saw “new tower,” I immediately thought “Roland, no…”? Can you tell that I’ve been rereading the Kate Daniels series for the nth time? ?
Anyway, good luck with it all; don’t forget to take a few moments to breathe!
Pol says
HAHAHA… ditto
Gail K says
Congratulations on being back on line . And we fans are loud and proud. Take your time , watch some basketball, and get your office back.
Enjoy the holiday, eat some chocolate bunnies ? and some matzo .
Thank you for always thinking of the us . We appreciate all the updates and progress on your work .
Spend some time with your family and friends and pets.
Happy holidays to everyone!!
Marianne says
Happy holidays to you too Gail! ?
Lisa M says
You have my total sympathy. Those fans are amazing, and yet annoyingly loud. We had six fans and a humongous dehumidifier in our kitchen for over a week after a storm left a hole in our roof. We hid in our bedroom with the cats, who were totally freaked out by that and the following repair work. They are effective, though. It sounds like Servpro got there fast enough, so hopefully no mold issues. Fingers crossed, you won’t need the fans too much longer, and will be able to enjoy a quiet house.
Heather Fritz says
Sary for the headache of the loud fans. Thanks for writing the inkeeper this weakend. Please take some time off on Sunday and enjoy easter with family.
Mousewynne says
Yay for the new PC, but honestly take time to recover from the trauma of the past few days. We’ll still be here next week or even longer.
When I was working full time I used to schedule mental health days away from work just so I could continue to deal with the insanity. I seems to me that you and Gordon are both due for some time off.
Clara says
I’m sorry about your run of bad luck. I’m having water and technology issues as well. Last week we had a major leak in our kitchen; it stopped shortly thereafter, but we can’t find the source despite the efforts of 2 plumbers. In order to find it we’re going to have to rip apart the kitchen. Then my year old tablet wouldn’t start and had to be sent off for repairs. I hope your technical and water problems are almost over.
The Innkeeper stories are amazing. Thanks for writing them. I love watching Maud navigate the vampires and their craziness.
M says
Take a breath, take your time and don’t worry about us. Innkeeper can wait.
Roberta says
As things have been loud and annoying I thought you might like this review I just found on Amazon
“… the grammar and storyline were decent. It definitely wasn’t Ilona Andrews, but was much better than the middle-school garbage writing that’s being sold …”. You are a benchmark for good writing!
Gaelle says
Love the double entendre! LOL
In the meanwhile, with all this loudness, earplugs are good….
Hang in there!
Ayla says
Will wait patiently on Innkeeper. Good luck with all and may you soon find your house blissfully without loud fanmachines
Elisabeth says
Thanks for the info. Even in this chaos you think of you fans. This is highly appreciated.
Despite all, have a great Easter!
Marianne says
Congratulations on the new tower. I know this wasn’t by choice, but by necessity. Despite the circumstances, I hope you got an awesome computer that will be great for you for many years to come. Here’s hoping the setup is quick and easy, and it is pretty and fun to use.
I hope that you both can take a couple of days right now to spend enjoying the holiday with friends and family, and away from the roar of the fans. (Double entendre completely intentional). Yes, we your fans (the BDH) are always wanting and asking for more, but we also want the best for you. We greatly appreciate all of your stupendous talent and your generosity. In return we are loyal supporters. That includes supporting you when things are stressful and crazy, and being happy to wait patiently for whatever and whenever you are able to post. I hope nobody objects to my speaking for the group – but I am fairly confident that what I said is true, at least of the majority.
I wish that your office and electronics are back to at least a semblance of norm soon, and that this never happens to you again. Hopefully something good will have come out of this and you find your new tower is kick ass and that you love it!
Happy Easter to you and your family. ??
Christine says
Good to see you back on line. Take some time out for family time during Easter ? the Inkeeper can wait.
Take care and Happy Easter ?
Ree More says
Yes, take care of yourselves. And i love when you get a new computer and it is SO much faster than the old one. I hope your new computer works perfectly.
Karon Reese says
Agreed! Take some time to recharge.
Joe says
Yes…take some time and enjoy life for a while. Flooding of your home is devastating and has to be experienced to be truly understood. The BDH will wait, some of them not as patiently as one would hope, but they will wait. As a further note, while waiting, readers might try The Federal Witch series by T S Paul. It has the same feeling as Innkeeper. If you are looking for lots of hot and heavy sex, then this series would not be for you, but I admit that I am addicted to the world that the author has created. At the moment Federal Witch is in Kindle Unlimited but there is a good sci-fi series that he/she also writes. Try this author while waiting…may save you from the continual refreshing of the Innkeeper blog.
Kelly Jacobs says

So — this could be your personal version of Magic vs. Technology. I guess that means that the next Flare will mend things. . .
There is a tarot card — The Tower being hit by lightning. Sounds like that metaphor could also work.
Bill G says
Blessed be. Take care of yourselves.
Barb says
Sorry about the flood, especially since you moved not to long ago. We can wait for innkeeper, you need the time with your family and enjoy a Happy Easter.
Cassandra says
So glad things are improving, just take it one day at at time and roll with the punches. Give yourself a chance to breathe and have a Happy Easter with your family.
Teresa says
So glad you are back up and running but you need to take time with the family for the Holiday. We will wait.
Pamfan says
All the best to you both and relax a bit for a holiday. So sorry about the tower. I’m guessing you have an airtight back-up system?
After a flood 2 years ago in a spot where no flood could possibly exist (in a house on a hill, where the water had 4 directions to flow downhill) The fand drove me insane! I live in fear of another flood and am constantly vigilant about checking for moisture.
I worked for a servepro type company for a bit and you would not believe what those folks have to deal with sometimes (a flood in a house where the occupant threw nothing, not even garbage, away for years and years). They had to work in shifts and some had nightmares. Those folks are brave.
So are you guys with everything on your plate!
Pamfan says
PS My daughter used you for one of her role models in writing, for a scholarship essay. She sited your style, workd buiding, attention to detail, addition of best places humor and relationship with fandom etc. We both want to be you when we grow up.
Mary says
Good earplugs might help, as could going out to dinner. Congrats on the new tower. Now, take care of yourselves. Maud is a patient hunter – she will wait, and so will we. Blessings, and Happy Easter.
Lynn says
Glad you are back up. When you have Innkeeper ready, it will be fine. This is Easter weekend. Celebrate your family. The two legged and other.
Since I will not be working retail this weekend, I must appear at. Mandatory family meal/ event/ function/ thing. Sigh.
So next Innkeeper will be a thing to look forward to. No obligatory small talk, no attempting to non hurtfully dodge nosey personal private questions…. grin. Enjoy your weekend.
Sharon says
Isn’t it an awful feeling when you can’t get online. Choosing not to be online is way different from the machine conking out and telling you literally cannot, no matter how badly you want to.
Glad it was resolved though sorry it cost you more money after all that.
Try to have a Happy Easter despite all this and take some time for yourselves where you can given the looming deadlines you are staring down. ? ?
jewelwing says
I feel your pain. Loudness bothers me no end. We don’t even have a generator, and when the power is off, the sounds of the generators in the neighborhood bug me. Those huge fans to dry stuff are annoying.
Servpro is awesome, though. Friends had an upstairs toilet tank crack while they were on vacation, and the living room ceiling fell in. Whole house was flooded and most had to be gutted. That company was a godsend.
Jana says
So sorry about your flood. The industrial fans are awful but do their job. This too shall pass, as they say. But in the meantime it is aggravating as heck – so hang in there!???
Jeannette K says
Just an FYI, yes the drop downs on iPad are still scrunched together.
kommiesmom says
Take a day off, Darlin’.
It will all – good and, alas, bad – still be here when you come back.
Hug Gordon, the kids, and any fur babies that will allow it. (Not necessarily in that order, of course.) It will help, I promise.
Kitty says
You need a weekend for the Story Keeper…the Innkeeper can wait… and so can we. LOL
Marian Bernstein says
Enjoy your new baby. Computer problems are so frustrating.
Amy Y says
good to have you back online. The fans can be blocked out with ear plugs Don’t overdo it take the time for your family over Easter. Maud will be patient and so will we
Carol says
Yay!!!!!! ??????
Debra says
No! No! You can not have a life. Get on that tower and produce. I used to be a mature, dignified, gracious retired Budget Analyst. I am now a quivering, slobbering, gelatinous mass with a single arm reaching up to press the Innkeeper website, searching endlessly for Chapter 7. You created this mess so get on it.
Thank you very much.
P.S. Three cheers for Jesus for the resurrection but you have work to do. Tsk. Tsk
Joe says
Debra: Heh…heh..may the flood waters sneak up on you when you least expect it. Loved your comment, wondertful, because it is so subtle…I hope.
Frances says
I’m with Debra. I feel like a Dr Jeckyl and Mr Hyde. One part of me ( the quiet, mature, polite retired professional woman ) wants Ilona and Gordon to relax, chill out with family and pets and play with the new computer but the other part is a vicious unhinged Innkeeper fan who wants to know what Maud and Helen and Arland et al get up to next. I just wish they would finish the story and publish it so I can read it (or listen to Renee read it) to my heart’s content .
Caro says
What a mess with the flooding and all just in time for easter and your deadline. That really sucks! Sending you energy and hoping that things will get back on track and that the noisy fans will be gone soon. At least the computer problems will be banished now.
Happy Easter and hopefully some time to recharge for you in the midst of all this chaos, keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Hope you bought the spiffiest, newest, most graphicalliest-adept tower out there. If you have to get a new one, you might as well go with the most recent one you can afford and hopefully not have to do it all over again. My computer at the office broke, I’m not even through tax season yet, and so have to work from home. The tech department says they’ll get one installed and up for my use first thing Monday. Of course, their first-thing in the morning is way different than my first thing in the morning (I’m a very early bird, up before the birds themselves even), but in the meantime, I will do what needs doing from the comfy of my living room, whilst still wearing jammy pants. The work gets done one way of the other.
Susan M says
I sincerely hope you only write whatever you must complete! What a mess! Flooding is so awful! The stress is worse. The loud fans…impossible…
Happy Easter! Hope you are not cooking too much for the holiday. Hope your girls are home helping if you are. Take care!
Sechat says
Take care of yourselves….free fiction is a priceless gift that the BDH does not want to abuse. We can wait.
Peace,
Carole says
Only work on the Innkeeper if you find fun or joy in it as a respite from all the hassle or noise…I know how reluctant the muse can be if we are not open and in the flow – or perhaps write another kickass Maud scene to get out all your frustrations – or better yet perhaps a little Maud and Arland steamy scene to divert attention to something pleasureable? Just a thought…
Monica says
We feel for you both it’s avlong messy road to get everything back to normal . All I can say is B…. (you can guess the European brand) noise cancelling head phones. I suffer badly from sensory overload and these are the only thing that allows me to hear discussions next to me but getsrid of the background noise. So you will be able to hear Gordon but the fans should be muted.
Lea Coates says
Best of luck with your clean up. It will take a while and we will wait. I am amusing myself by reading BFM again. Still a great story and remains one of my favourites.
