And it’s Monday again. My adventure in seeing clearly continues. Except that I can’t see the texts on my phone with the eye that was operated on. This caused some concern, so I bought reading glasses, although today I was able to read a text, kind of.
My biggest issue is remembering eye drops. I have alarms on my phone, but I think sometimes I put extra drops in, because I do that thing where the alarm goes off, but I am in the middle of an email or writing, and then I don’t remember whether I put drops in, so I put one in just in case.
Also, not bending over and not picking things up is annoying, especially because I didn’t realize how often I pick up cats and dogs. Also, workouts are my stress relief and I can’t do them, so I am slowly building up stress. Gordon has been taking great care of me, but I would love to be back to my normal.
The Mug and the Tyger
I have this wonderful friend. Her name is Jean Kwok. She is amazing, and we text each other pictures of our orange cats. Before the surgery, we were texting, and I told her I was nervous.
Jean: I had this surgery. Let me call you.
::calls::
Jean (paraphrasing): So yes, I had this surgery, because my eyesight is terrible, but I was in Netherlands at the the time, and they are such tough people. They don’t use strong anesthesia for this surgery and I was begging for anesthesia, and yes. This was rough.
Me: …
Jean: But you will be okay.
She was right, I was okay, and she sent me that cool red mug as a recovery gift. Like me, she is convinced that tea helps with everything. I love it to pieces.

By the way, Jean has a romantasy coming out.

It’s called DOMINION. It draws on Chinese mythology, and it is both visually stunning and romantically complicated. I called her after I read it.
Me: What do you mean with this romantic twist?
Jean: Gentle, slightly evil laugh.
There is a group of warriors who ride mystic animals that are magic tigers. I didn’t know I needed a mystic rideable tyger in my life, but after reading this book, I totally do. I’m not sure how much I am allowed to say about the book, especially because it takes really wild turns, but I linked the description above.
Surprise Appearance
We have a surprise appearance coming up. We will be at Jasmine Mas signing, which will be held at 7:00 pm at B&N Arboretum this upcoming Wednesday, 10/29. This is Jasmine’s event, and we are there to ask her fun questions. I think the tickets are sold out already, but if you are going, we will be there.
Fun Work Stuff
State of life: working. OMG. All the working. We are digging deeper into This Kingdom #2 first draft and working on Augustine’s short on the weekends.
For reasons I cannot tell you, we are commissioning some art and it is with Candice Slater. I’m unreasonably excited about this. Candice, however, will likely regret this contract.
Candice: Beautiful sketch of the tower with petals at the top enclosing an observation deck.
Me: This is lovely, but it will not work because of proportions. Assuming a tower with two rings of rooms inside, we get a hollow space diameter of 75 feet and the overall tower diameter of 204 feet. Let’s approximate 1,000 feet of height – she says it’s the size of the Washington monument, but she is ballparking it from a distance. Assuming deck diameter of 120 feet around 75 foot hole, we have 9 petals, which would be about 42 feet wide at the base and have the length of 60-70 feet…
Math. Woo!
And now a tiny bribe for sitting through the updates:
Diana Snippet
They crossed the parking lot aiming for the entrance. All of her senses were up, keyed on him. She noted everything in detail, the way he moved, the way he placed his feet and shifted his weight, his breathing, his scent… Things made more sense now. She didn’t have to do anything about it, she reminded herself. Acknowledging it was enough.
“Who will I look like this time?” She’d managed to keep her voice light.
“Yourself.”
“No disguise?”
The blond demi-god next to her shook his head. “There will be no need. Sutton understands the way the game is played. He’s a professional.”
“Augustine?”
“Yes?”
“If I wasn’t there, would you have killed all of them?”
There was a tiny pause before he answered. “It would’ve been bad for business.”
Lila let out a tiny woof. Diana sent a reassuring flood of calm down the link. Yes. Spectacular, isn’t he?
Why yes, Pancakes is spectacular. Hehehehe.

whoo, snippet! thank you :]
+1
first?
second is just as great. it was worth the read 🙂
I think we will all love Diana! Cornelius is a favorite, so I’m excited about finding out more about his family too.
Love that things are getting back to normal for you…albeit slowly.
First?
The math is funny bc you kind of broke my brain trying to comprehend the scale of Kate’s towers to be explored in Magic Claims. If you said this and such tower… I’m not checking the math. I’m accepting blindly. 😅
Loved this snippet. Omg.
Same, but you know there will be people who do. I’m all: it’s magic, I don’t care about physics or math! I realize it does bug some people though, so I appreciate IA’s attention to detail!
All the hugs and mugs to Candace! 🤗☕️
Also, glad you’re starting to get back to normal, Ilona! I have no advice to give, but was wondering, could you maybe take a walk to reduce some stress, but not over exert? 🤷♀️ Don’t want one of my favorite authors to be more stressed than necessary! Hope it all resolves itself soon! 🤗
I think most readers won’t check the maths, but for people who do work adjacent to that or have experience with that sort of thing they’ll probably be reading along and then just clock ‘something’s not right’ they might not calculate as they go but if they’ve done thousands of similar calculations they’ll have an idea of what everything should look like.
Yay! Snippets are fun.
Thanks for the Monday goody. Looking forward to all the HA upcoming stories. Thank you.
For recurring things like eye drops mark on the side of your water bottle the times or amount of time you need to use the eye drops. Get a rubber band and just move it up when you use it. That way you’ll remember that you used them. Maybe. I’m the same way.
+1!
That’s a really good idea. I put my meds on one side and move the bottle over to the other side of the table once I’ve taken them. Sometimes I’ll forget to write down the time, and physically moving the bottle makes it clear whether or not I’ve actually taken the med. But for something like drops that happen 4 times a day, I like the rubber band idea of moving it up to the next mark every time.
You don’t realize how much you do, until you can’t. Hang in there, I’m sure you’ll figure out how to deal with this all. Your vision is important, so it’s worth prioritizing.
Thanks for another snippet! I guess we know how she feels about Pancakes!
Ahh. A Monday snippet. 🙂
I am also #TeamMugsMakeEverythingBetter.
First of all, confirmation of Augustine/Diana! YAY!!
Second, that book by Jean Kwok was an instant preorder for me, thanks!
Thank you for all the updates! So good to hear your eye continues to improve! Please don’t worry about keeping the Horde occupied with snippets. Use your weekend to rest as needed. We’ll be here….
So happy for Diana if the snippet is indicating she is bonding with Pancakes. Remembering that animal mages can’t bond with other humans as well….. Yeah for her!
Appreciate the wonderful start to the week!
Sending peace , health and safety to all!
If I were Candace, I would say, “Of course, it works. It’s magic!”
I’m trying to decide from the picture if your orange is dipping her tail in your tea.
I was wondering that myself, but decided maybe it’s his back haunch precariously perched on the edge of the mug? I mean, who doesn’t love a heated seat sometimes? 😄
He would never. He is too polite. 🙂 It’s his floof.
Yippee on healing and new teacups!
Love the snippet! And now I have a new book to look into – a great Monday! Thanks
delicious snippet! sending best wishes for recovery
Not being able to pick up the animals or feed them without dropping a dish from a great height is a pain! So is having some of the cat food hit the floor. That’s when the “roomba dog” takes over.
Pretty immediately after the second surgery you’ll be able to read and text using cheap reading glasses from the drugstore.
I always thought I was a patient person until I had cataract surgery. Extra drops are better than no drops. You’re doing awesome! Hang in there!
Love the snippet! Thanks!
It’s a cold and gloomy Monday where I am. This snippet made it a little brighter.
Thank you
Hidden depths of Pancakes or should I say Stacks 🥞 😋
Thank you for the book rec as well!
So much picked into one blog! Whoo hoo! Thank you so much!
Packed not picked. Autocorrect strikes again
I’m a Dutchie who had the eye procedure. It didn’t hurt at all, and I’m a real sissy. Maybe your friend just had very bad luck? We’re not tough people, we just have doctors who believe Tylenol cures everything..
We’re not Dutch, but my grandfather believed that vasoline cured everything. Sore throat? Swallow a bit of vasoline. The list of uses was too long… I refused to eat it, but my brother tried it. Shudder. Got a cut that won’t stop bleeding- nevermind direct pressure, just smear with vasoline. Sigh.
Thank you for the Diana snippet after all the math dimensions for the castle. 😁
Tuna’s picture is really cute with Gordon sitting in the background working. Tuna looks very regal or very concerned for his person.
The ending of this post cracked me up, we are so ready for more Pancakes awesomeness. Although I must say I’m equally intrigued by Diana and learning more about her powers. Pancakes had better be equally impressed with her!
Woohoo!! Thank you!!
Dianistine!!!!!!
Nice! But for me, Panthercakes takes the (pan)cake !
+1
Panthercakes forever!
+1 Panthercakes!
I joke with a friend of mine that my coffee comes with extra cat fur, every morning.
I have a 24 ounce Yeti mug. Sometimes the lid makes it on to the cup. Those mornings are lucky mornings.
The time in between surgeries is hard to get through as are the restrictions but it’ll be worth it in the end!
If you’re like me, you’ll end up with readers in every room plus some, though I’ve thought about getting those fancy ones that hang on your neck and click together at the nose bridge.
Thanks for the snippet and can’t wait to see what Candace will create!
I had readers in every room until this year. Something to do with Doberman puppy who takes things off of tables. She doesn’t eat them but pops the lenses out.
All the updates are good to have ! Hoping the eye will get better, normal will come back soon, and everything will work out 🙂 I’m so hyped for these Diana/Augustine snippets. She fell first but he fell harder ? Let’s hope.
I had both eyes done, not at once, and both times traditional anesthsia was not even mentioned. They gave me medication to chill and it worked. But, the second eye was a little different. My doctor was working on my eye and I had the irresistible urge to move my leg. My doctor quickly told me to be still. It all went alright.
Thanks for the updates and snippet! You’re the best, even when recovering ❤️🩹.
I think I broke my window with the ultrasonic “wiiiii”.
Thank you for the snippet.
I’m glad you’re seeing better, and I wish you a fast recovery.
Ilona I am SO SORRY that no one emphasized to you that unless they used multi -focal lenses that you will need reading glasses. When you have your follow up appointment, they should be able to tell you what strength you will need. Honestly, I freaked out when the surgeon told me that I would need glasses for reading, because so much of what I do is close up work; but wasn’t a candidate for multi focal lenses or for doing a different focal point in each eye. It may also take your brain time to adjust to the new vision.
Paniana!
As Sherry said too many drops is not a problem, if you run out they will give you more, and it’s better to be safe than miss any. Though Amy’s idea of the rubber band on a water bottle is great if you use one.
Yeah the wait until you can do things that you normally do without thinking about it is hard, it was a hysterectomy for me, but I would have been in real trouble if a cousin hadn’t stayed over for the first few days, until my husband could drive me and the dogs to stay with a friend for a couple of weeks. I was very lucky they were both nurses and could reassure me things were going okay, and tell me how to get out of bed wit no usable stomach muscles. After that I could at least make myself a cuppa, though the wait until I could drive again was hard even with good public transport. While you won’t have to make an emergency stop on a bus they aren’t always the smoothest of rides and you notice every pothole or bump when you’re healing up.
I hope your recovery continues well, thank you so much for the snippet (and all of your writing) but please only do the weekend writing if it’s fun for you.
You live such an interesting life. You have so many balls in the air, and actually maintain them. Thank you for the snippet, patience….
Squee. I am so invested in pancakes now and a new book rec. wonderful day!!!!
Wishing you a speedy recovery! And thanks for the new book to put on the list.
The bribe is also appreciated. Looking forward to it’s eventual release!
Needing reading glasses is definitely a downside. After I got both cataracts done, I switched to progressive lenses. But in between, I had distance pair and reading pair, with one lens on each side that didn’t have a prescription (or low prescription). It’s a process….
I went over to check out Jean Kwok’s book (since it was so pretty – I totally judge a book by it’s cover – that’s how I picked up my first Ilona Andrew’s book – On the Edge – Rose Drayton looked completely kick ass). One book pre-ordered!
Love a good Pancakes snippet! ❤️
I’ve added Dominion to my wishlist at Kobo so that I don’t forget about it! It looks great.
Thanks. Really needed that giggle at the end today. Heal fast!
Ooh! I always love an unexpected snippet, especially when it is in the Hidden Legacy world. (I’m biased because Burn for Me was the first Ilona Andrew’s book I ever read and I LOVE it so much!)
Your spelling of “tyger” reminded me of something I saw posted online- totally my favorite classical poem parody….
Robin Johnson Twitter, April 23, 2022
@rdouglasjohnson
Tyger! Tyger! Burning bright
(Not sure if I spelled that right)
What immortal hand or eye
Could fashion such a stripy guy?
What the hammer that hath hewn it
Into such a chonky unit?
Did who made the lamb make thee,
Or an external franchisee?
What the hammer? What the nail
That attached thy swishy tail?
What the forge and what the bellows
Where were wrought you floofy fellows?
Where was bought the tube of glue
By which your fur was stuck to you?
In what distant deeps or skies
Are sold such art and craft supplies?
On what anvil wert thou wrought?
In what smithy? Who’d have thought
A beast so fearsome, fierce and hungry
Could be made by ironmongery?
😳🤩🤣. This is great! Thanks!
+1!
Snicker, chortle, guffaw!
I love the original, but this is really great 🤣🤣
Also: put Dominion on my Wishlist and am so looking forward to Augustin’s “short story”.
Wishing you a cuppa peace and patience for the ongoing recovery.
Thanks for the snippet! I love seeing Pancakes through Diana’s appreciative eyes. We get the buzz of attraction and tantalizing hints of how the individual gravity of each of these self-possessed Primes is shifting the other’s path as they draw closer. Hehehehe, indeed.
“For reasons I cannot tell you” would be a fun book title.
Math brain – I recently learned about Arvind who usually reviews the ultra luxury mansion videos on YT and points out the livability and resale challenges. Was watching a house tour from an engineer who built a 25 ft deep pool … on the third story roof of his forever home … that indeed was a lot of math (yes Arvind, we engineers can fixate on solving “engineering challenges” which can then cause our wallets pain instead of just buying the lot next door as well because where would the fun be in that after missing city permitting wouldn’t want said pool in the riverbank setback before purchasing the lot and designing the house). I was wondering by the first third of the video if he also owned a cement pouring company. Comments did mention the pool is also used to train first responders.
Thank you, thank you for the photo of the gorgeous and regal Tuna. I love him. I also loved the Augustine/Diana snippet. I’ve always wanted to see Augustine in a romantic relationship and it’s like you read my mind. Best wishes for your continued healing. Martha
Pancakes and Diana, sittin’ in a tree…???
Math is good. Sign me up for team math!
Yep! 😀
Oooo liking these glimpses of Diana and Augustine so much! Ratcheting up the romantic vibes there? Bwahahaha. Thanks!
Heh! I like Diana and Cornelius. Pancakes is luckier than he deserves, imo.
Thanks for the snippet! And all the little tidbits! Such joyful little bits. So nice to check into the blog couple times a week to see what special things you have for us. Bright points in the week!
Glad you got through your surgery ok and are gradually healing!
I just had ankle surgery 3 weeks ago and the recovery is quite different and more challenging than other foot surgeries I’ve had, so I’ve really had to modify my expectations. Thought I would be whipping around on a knee scooter by now, but not really happening yet! But the end goal is to be able to walk and hike without pain, so really looking forward to that.
Have a great week!
Inheritance Graphic Novel?!
Candice Slater’s art work for The Inheritance was amazing!
Ive added Inheritance 2 to my long awaiting wish list loves of HA works🥰
Maggie is just around the corner 🤗
There was a tiny pause before he answered. “It would’ve been bad for business.”
He didn’t say no!
Loved the snippet and want more, please.
Does duality have a scent? Diana and Lila both seem to be picking up interesting things from Augustine.
Yay!!! I love any Augustine snippets! And I’m so excited to him to find his person! Something that will give his life more meaning than just duty (though I know he’s an awesome big brother as well).
I hope your healing is going well.
A snippet and a rec, many thanks! My mom had cataract surgery last year, both eyes done separately, and now her eyesight is better than mine, it’s amazing.
Okay I LOVE that she called him pancakes!
Lovely snippet; thank you! And I love my tea, I’m brewing a pot now.
You’re sounding some chipper which is good.
If I remember right, extra eyedrops are ok, forgetting to add them can dry out the eye too quick.
They didn’t have the do not lean over or pick up stuff when I had mine but they might have learned something in the 10yr since I had surgery.
Just continue to persevere and you’ll be standing tall sooner than you think.
Hi,
i dont‘t know, if my comment is rigtht, so please, delete it, if it is Not appropriate.
My mother had an eye surgery.
Before it, she could choose, which lenses, she wished.
Most people choose lenses to see in the distance and need After the Op Glasses to read books.
So i would think it normal, that you now need glasses?
I‘m a Bit concerned, because my mother should not use her handy for some Time, After she got the New lenses. I remember it, because it was really hard for her not to write her Friends. But I don‘t remember how Long the time without handy was and if it is similar to your surgery.
Best wishes to you
Ooo!!! Want! Want now! And I’m going to get your friend’s book, because I too need magic tigers.
The ember mug my favorite electronic device ☕️
After my Mom had cataracts removed and new lenses put in she needed readers for a almost a month I think. She doesn’t need them anymore. She was so near sighted she was far and all sighted (IE blind)
I love the animal interactions with the animal mages. The eagle/bird trying to feed Cornelius, Bunny “smiling” for the picture, this one here ect. Thanks for the treat.
I hope your recovery continues smoothly and thank you for the snippet!
Woot woot love the snippet 🥰 Glad your feeling better 💖
Thanks for the heads up on Jean Kwok, I had not heard of her, but went to audible, read the synopsis, and added it to my wish list.
I’m hoping that Augustine will develop into a full length book. I love that series!
Careful with overdosing on the medicated drops, and remember that the regular “tear” drops are your friend. My opthemologist said that the regular drops are fine to use any time you need them. you can’t use them too often.
When you get the other eye done, You will be amazed at the new you. Two years after my surgery, I’m still amazed at the lovely new colors I see in my yarns and finished sweaters. I had one that I could pick out only a couple of colors in the variegation and thought that I had been sent the wrong yarn( hubby could see that it was the right one). After my surgery I looked at the sweater and was amazed at all the colors I could see in it. The color changes were only about 4 inches long, so blended into each other rather than stripes. Every sweater looks different and more vibrant than before the surgery.
You are going to be so happy with your new eyes every day, and be so thankful that we live in a time when we have these wonderful solutions.
Thank you so much for doing the math, tedious as it may be in some cases. I’m no one’s idea of a math geek, but geometry made more sense to me than other branches, so I can visualize distances and shapes up to a point. When they’re too far off, even in the text, it takes me out of the story a bit. Wildly inaccurate illustrations are even tougher to ignore.
Very glad to hear that the healing continues. I so hear you on having to rate yourself with physical activity and even posture.
That snippet put the biggest smile on my face! Bribe unneeded – even your updates are entertaining – but gratefully accepted.
ok, I have been dithering, but its official, we need the story where the pancakes and Diana ship finally reaches port. jejeje obviously we’ve been getting the snippets of the story, when do we get the story?? [Please……]
Beautiful cover on Ms. Kwok’s book. I am intrigued and have put it on my want to read shelf.
I am already absolutely in love with this!
Thanks for the snippet. I love it when you return to one of your “worlds”. Any and all of your worlds!
So glad you are on the mend, Ilona.
I had the same issue with phone alarms until I got into the habit of snoozing my phone alarms if I hadn’t actually done the task I needed to do. That was the only way I could reliably tell that I had actually done what I needed to do. lolsob.
The Dominion book cover is gorgeous. I will most likely pick up the audio version.
The Diana snippet was fun and also threw me for a loop for a couple of reasons! First, it reads like a dual PoV, which I did not expect! And second, the passage about how “things made more sense now” gave me “animal mage lore about bonding and relationships” vibes. ::shifty eyes:: Either way, love the mystery.
Same here, although I am new to the alarms. I was so proud of myself, everyone else I know with ADHD* uses multiple phone alarms during the day for things and I didn’t need to! But I was recently diagnosed with diabetes* and starting a small dose of insulin once a day, and had to set an alarm for that, and it was like the dam broke and suddenly I had 3-4 alarms over the day. But the snooze button is what makes sure I don’t say “oh yeah, as soon as the cat gets off my lap**, I’ll do that” and then completely forget.
___
*my mother and great-grandmother both developed diabetes at menopause. Looking back at my memories of my grandmother’s health problems, I am willing to bet money she did, too, and just ignored it.
**our new(ish) rescue has severe abandonment anxiety and will sometimes wake up and need to sit in someone’s lap RIGHT NOW (I’m convinced she has nightmares). However, she also has trust issues, and can’t COMPLETELY relax in someone’s lap, so she maxes out at thirty minutes (for those who have never owned a cat, they have watches in their heads). If she’s shaking and mewling on my lap and my alarm goes off for meds, I can absolutely wait the 20-30 minutes until she feels safe again. But the snooze has to happen or I completely forget the alarm went off.
Forgot that first footnote: when I was diagnosed with ADHD, I was stunned to find out how many of my friends had it. It appears people on the ADHD & autism spectrums attract each other — my shrink said very nicely that we understand how each other’s mental processes work, which of course I interpreted as “neurotypical people can’t stand you.” But it’s one of the reasons for the supposed overdiagnosis of ADHD in adults, we tend to be diagnosed in clusters.
having had open heart surgery earlier this year I know the frustration with not being able to do things and taking a regimen of pills..after open heart you aren’t supposed to lift anything more than 10 pounds for 6 weeks, supposed to get into bed or sit down without using your arms, can’t drive, then even after 6 weeks you arent supposed to lift anything heavy. .we have a cat who demands to be picked up, and he isn’t light, got caught by my wife lifting him ( the reason for the restriction is the breast bone is based on 2 then wired back together and has to allow time to heal)
Then being on Warfarin you have to be careful about vitamin k rich foods , which happen to be what we normally eat a lot of, leafy vegetables, soy , other greens ( fortunately since my heart valve is bio, I can stop taking it soon , not worried about the risk of AFIB. ww
hopefully you can be back to picking up things, cats and dogs have no interest in excuses:)
youhouh!!! Thank you for all the words!
kill whoooooo
augh!!
Will you be signing too in Austin?
Yes, Jasmine graciously invited us to sign as well. It is her event, so we will be primarily hosting.
It is going to be fun to be in Diana’s head in her pov parts. Thanks for the snippet, and good luck with all the things!
Ooooohhhhhh you tease, you! Loving the snippet.
I hope your recovery continues. My Mom is in her 80s and gave me fits because she’d keep leaning over for stuff after her surgery.
Her eyes are healed and she’s happy with the results. Now I just need to decide what to do with the extra Grey hair she gave me lol
So glad you’re on the mend. Yes, tea is good for everything. I can’t wait for Augustine! You have the best way of enhancing characters I’m not so sure if. Thank you for you work and your words!
Looooove the snippet! Super excited about Diana & Augustine 🙂
Dear Mod R,
Is there any update about an Australian Kindle or other ebook edition of This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me?
I am still trying to find it and there is no sign of it.
Help!!
Janet
Hey Janet, the preorder for Maggie in Australia isn’t likely to be visible until December 🙂.This is due to the policies of Australian retailers and nothing to be worried about.
Hey, Ilona, I have a very similar problem with meds, but it’s because I have ADHD. I have found the only way to be sure of whether I took them is to have daily boxes (it’s easy for the daily pills, because everyone and their grandmother makes boxes labeled with dates & times, but was challenging for the supplements), especially for the drops (d3 drops must be taken with magnesium or calcium to absorb correctly). For the fizzy tablets and drink powders, I made my own daily “boxes,” but for the drops, I made labeled places. I take the d3 every night with my magnesium*. The d3 drops sit on a label stuck to the cabinet they are in that says “Not Taken”. After I’ve taken them, I put them on a second label, that says “Taken.” Then, in the morning, when I am putting all the supplements in their daily box, I move the bottle of d3 back to “Not Taken”.
I know this specific method wouldn’t work for you, because you have to take yours several times a day, but maybe it will spark an idea that can work for you?
____
*Assuming, of course, that I have taken the others at their proper times. If I haven’t, for reasons of scheduling or sleeping or forgetting, then sometimes the d3 gets taken with calcium, because I try to alternate missing the second dose of magnesium and calcium.
I have to mark some of mine on my planner – specifically the Mg and Ca, as they need to be spaced apart from each other. My weekly/monthly At-A-Glance has quarter hour markings from 7am-9pm. Yeah, it’s taken me a long time to learn to live with this brain, and it’s still a WIP.
I don’t necessarily write them in ahead of time, because cat on lap or whatever may delay them. Time is circled and labeled Mg or Ca or whatever as I take them, and the notation gets underlined so it’s easily spotted amongst all the other Important Stuff. Then the next med/dose can be timed accordingly.
This doesn’t necessarily remind me to take them in a timely manner, but it does let me know whether or not the dose was taken, even if it didn’t register in my brain. Currently I need to take *something* almost every time I eat, so it’s just a matter of remembering which goes with which meal on the hobbit schedule.
I use an app on my phone to let me know what I’ve taken. I record it as soon as I take it, but I can literally forget from the kitchen counter to the phone whether I took the one supplement that’s a pill (Inositol, the vitamininoid formerly known as Vitamin b8) while drinking down the calcium or magnesium or selenium drink. Hence, I put three inositol pills in a little container each morning and can go back and check if I took it.
Funny story: a very good friend of mine is a neo-natal/natal anesthesiologist. The moment I started taking my deficiencies as seriously as I should was when she told me magnesium cures pre-eclampsia. And if they give the patient too much magnesium, they administer calcium to counteract. But when I asked her how far apart to take them so they WOULDN’T cancel each other out, she had no idea. She works with them in one direction only, the other isn’t required for her job, she doesn’t know (and trying to figure it out was nearly impossible, even in the medical resources she could search. We ended up following the best guess of the Internet, three hours).
Yeah, educated guess ends up the default for so many things. Getting old is way too complicated.
After my cataract surgeries I needed reading glasses stashed all over my house. It really is worth it. If you read ebooks at all it is good to have readers with an amber tint to filter out the blue light.
Thank you for the link and the snippet. Your writing brings me so much joy! Thank you.
Smitten, deeply smitten … It will be fun to watch him develop the wit to appreciate her, and the strength to offer a bit of trust and openness, and to watch her find the emotional depth to carry her half of a relationship based on more than physical attraction … ah, I foresee many adjustments and misunderstandings! Hooray, I’m so ready to watch these two mature their POV’s thru the ruthless lens of emotional need warring with physical attraction. Ah, the mills of the gods, grinding slowly … thank you, thank you, thank you, House Andrews, I am so ready to watch you make them work very hard to get to the good times.
I did try the Vadham tea, actually, I enjoyed five of their teas in a mix pack. This has gotten me hooked on turmeric and ginger based teas … which is working perfectly with the spiced pumpkin everything season … thank you for the info on those lovely teas!
Yay! Thanks so much.
Oh my.
Augustine and Diana.
Snippets are wonderful, but (as a card-carrying member of the horde)….
Thank you.
I’ll take deep breaths and be patient, and reread everything else!
🙂
Don’t you absolutely LOVE these heated mugs?! For Christmas last year I bought my mom and I both a Nextmug and I never knew I couldn’t live without it. It’s so wonderful to be able to warm your drink up if you forget about it. Can’t wait for the next release, I hope your eyes are sparkling new soon. Well wishes to you and Gordon both, your newsletters are a blast!
Bonded!!!
Great! Yum. Great writing for great characters. World-buildin’ an’ everythin’. Can’t wait.
aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!
