Hey, guys, we have some real life stuff going on, so no Arabella today. Nothing bad, just super busy. If you are waiting for the continuation, it will be some time next week.

But I do have something fun for you today. We are giving away one copy of the Kinsmen Collector edition from Subterranean.

This is a signed and numbered edition. It includes Silent Blade, Silver Shark, and Mere Formality and features amazing art by Luisa Pressler.

Subterranean does not reprint, so if you missed this, this is likely the only chance to own one.

How to enter: You must comment on this blog post and tell us what you would do if you were given the chance to visit Rada, the Kinsmen planet. Would you visit the Terraces for some yummy food, go to see the flowers, get involved in the battles between clans or…?

    • I would go see the gardens or find a library. I love flowers and being in nature because it is so calming compared to the bussle of a city. I like to slow down and enjoy the roses and read a good book.

    • Eat. A bunch. And record the fights that would erupt on the street randomly.

      But I can’t promise I also wouldn’t try to break into/start up the black market for Dahlia genetics. Seems like it might be a lucrative business.

      • Ooooh! I would love to have a home with a garden of dahlias so that I could just sit back and vegetate. I would also read Radia’s version of Ilona Andrews books.

    • Please tell me they have museums. Art museums, historical buildings, day trip to the terraces.

      Getting involved in, or anywhere near clan battles is a hard no. I’m not sure about food – I’d probably stick with vegetarian dishes. I’m pretty set on what proteins I eat and I imagine that’s very different in another planet. I’d like to be adventurous with food, but sadly I am not.

    • I would totally be checking out the food! Then I would head out with a full belly to check out all the plants. I would satu out of any battles.

  3. Definately find some pink wine and passion cones! And perhaps pick up some dahlias for my garden.

  5. I would visit the Terraces for some yummy food. Maybe upon my return I would be able to replicate a dish to share with friends and family. (When I am stressed or anxious due to life events or family concerns, I do a reread and visit Rada. There is some predictability and comfort and my peace of mind is restored. I feel more balanced to handle real life.)

  6. I would learn more about and visit the various temples. Archeaology for the win.

      • I would find out if any clan battles are going on and try my best to avoid them. Then I would get some yummy food and find a quiet space to snack, read, and people watch.

  8. First I would want a sunny day with a slight breeze, an interesting companion to share the experience with, bright flowers surrounding the food court, then a taste testing of the wonderful sounding food, with comfortable seating to watch the clans battle. Wine might be nice too.

  9. I would eat all the food and in between bites go shopping and people watching and hope to come across impromptu dancing. But mostly I’d be there for the food.

  10. If I were lucky enough to visit Rada, I would go to the Terraces because I’m a total foodie. I’d definitely want to try some passion cones with some pink wine.

  13. I would definitely study the flora. All those plants out in the wild would be a botanists dream to study. Star flowers blooming in the summer night. Orange cherries for a snack. And to relax from all that studying, wine tasting on the weekend.

  15. If I was given the chance to visit Rada, I would visit the provinces. I couldn’t get involved in the battles between clans because they are way more ruthless & calculating than I am.

  16. I would go scuba diving with the silver sharks. If I survived that, I would go to Meli’s house for a cooking lesson and wine tasting.

  22. If I were to get to travel to Rada I would defiantly try to time my trip around one of the flower festivals. Visit the terraces for sure to get the passion cones and try and find the good vintage of pink wine. Maybe see if I can watch a kinsmen brawl.

    • Visit Meli’s flower garden and try to get her to join me on the terraces for passion cones and spilling some tea about the families.

      I might watch a battle, but I’m not savvy enough to survive participating in a battle.

  28. I would got to the market area, shop then sit on a balcony so I can people watch while eating yummy food!!

    • Yes! That was my first thought too. Along with seeing the temple, you get an aerial ride, lush jungles & hopefully good conversation. Then on to a party with good food, a sunset & dancing with my love.

  45. I’d visit the gardens. Allllll the gardens. In between, of, course, I’d have to visit the markets and the Terraces to fuel myself for the next garden.

    Secondly, I’d shop in the old market and haggle for spices and fruit.

A day hiking to the egg temple and camping there overnight – the adventure! The rest of the week would be ideally at the Adler/Buena summer house (a girl can dream!) eating cherries, swimming in the lake and hoping to see the starflowers bloom in the light of the two moons with my hubby…

I would start my own cleaning/catering business and work my way into all the Kinsmen houses and events until I had enough information on them all to start my own gossip/tmz blog (no one ever notices the help). I would share info on all the Kinsmen’s dirty laundry to the public, and probably be quickly discovered and murdered by one of them – but it would be a wild ride while it lasted!!

  84. I would volunteer to help any refugees acclimate to their new home. I love meeting new people and hearing their stories. It would be interesting and hopefully fulfilling finding them a place and peace of a kind in their new homes…though I sorely want to revamp how they let refugees into Rada!!

    I’m one to relax. So the Terraces are for me. Flowers, food, people watching. Libraries and/or book stalls. I think the journey there would be adventure enough;-)

    I’d start by shopping for fabrics at the market at the terraces, as a cover to meet my contact. They’d pass me the details of my next mission. Next I would of course get a passion cone or three – need to keep my energy up. After I would head to my sewing shop (all a front of course), set my purchases down, and head on to the back. There I would log onto the bionet where I would complete the mission ahead of schedule and spend some time taking in the sights of the bionet. Finally, after logging off and closing up the shop, I’d have a sunset diner with my handsome love interest in a flower garden.

  100. If I could visit to Rada I would want to link to the bionet. I would love to see what my mind would show me. Would I be in skyworld where you had to climb and glide from 🌳 to 🌳? Or would I move though a desert with hidden pockets of water and caves? Or would my mind imagine a mountainous terrain with cliffs and ravines. How much of my past preferences and childhood play into what I see?

Maybe they do knitting/needlwork retreats and I can sign up for one of those, get there early, eat all the stuff at the Terraces, go to the retreat, which will be situated in a bower of flowery loveliness, and work on my projects with other yarn and needlework fans.

  169. Well, getting involved with a Kinsmen battle seems counterintuitive to exploring a new world, so that’s out. Flowers? With my luck, I’d be deathly allergic. One whiff and POOF, being shipped home in cold storage. Nope.

    Well, I do like food. A lot. Now, if I DIDN’T end up allergic to everything (50/50 odds), I would be all over trying all the yummy food. Mmmmmm, food. Then I’d probably eat myself into a food coma with a healthy food baby. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

  171. First, open a flower shop. Growing the best flowers in the region, giving the best customer service, becoming the most reliable and prosperous shop. Soon, opening more shops and becoming the ‘Starbucks’ of Flowers within the Terraces. What no one knows is it’s secretly an information guild. Collecting information on each kinsman family’s flowers, building a database, and selling to other families for exuberant prices. But only related to flowers, nothing fatal/life threatening. Example: The Quattrone family has white/pink flowers planned for their daughter’s wedding. The flowers are weak against high PH water. Sell that information to their rival, the Garcia’s. After the wedding is ruined, turn around and tell the Quattrone family what flowers are being used for Garcia’s son’s Christening. Embrace the chaos.

    Is it bleak and desolate? Cold and snowy? Warm and inviting? Ever changing and annoying, like the State of Nevada’s volatile and varied spring weather?

    I don’t know. I’ve never read of there.

    I can only imagine what it’s like from the snippets available in the samples my e-reader allows me to download.

    Alas, I am only a neophyte when it comes to the Kinsmen universe.

    I have a huge list of books I want to read and then I have a checkbook… sadly, my checkbook is lacking the necessary funds to purchase the books.

    So, my list waits, haunting my nights and days with wishes as yet unfulfilled. Batman’s alter ego, I am not.

    I have a love/hate relationship with the local library. I ask for a popular title and they say, “It’s out right now. Maybe you can pick another title? Or get on our list… there are only three-hundred-and-six people ahead of you.”

    Please, forgive me my whiney, sad-sack words — I am but pitiful being, lacking the means to indulge my passion for books.

    I believe I’ll go now, and re-read my favorite Innkeeper Chronicles, or perhaps a Kate Daniels series ebook while I dream of expanding my personal library.

  176. I wouldn’t last long in a battle and I tend to be wary of “strange” foods. At one point I thought I was pretty sophisticated because I ate so many ethnic foods. Then I realized I eat chicken: Kung pao chicken, teryaki chicken, Ethiopian chicken stew, chicken tacos. So I think I’d wander the flowe gardens with great joy!

  177. I would wander through the terraces, the markets and flowers. See all the people, the culture the kinsmen buildings (with their amazing architecture). I would buy the fruits and the flowers, eat the fruits and press the flowers and take a million pictures. Then I would go home and paint a dozen paintings of what I considered the essence of the culture, write a poem on canvas to go with each painting to give words the the emotion I felt for each scene and add one of the pressed flowers to the poem canvas and hang each poem and corresponding painting all over my walls so that I can soak in Rafa whenever I want to

  191. There are so many things. Rada is described as such a beautiful plentiful planet. But I would want to enjoy the sights and food. I want to sample all the food! Full immersion the tastes, aromas, the textures, the cultures. then to walk the gardens. See and small and touch all the beautiful dahlias and others. To walk the pathways under a big beautiful sky.

I also love the giant neo-mosque. it’d be cheating if the neo-mosque hid a straight leg for the arc tower because then the tower would be easier.

I would visit where the dance between Matias and Ramona sealed their love and relationship and absorb as much of the ambiance of that setting as possible, and if I had the time; I would sit there in the hotel on a balcony facing the area and reread Fated Blades. I would envision their blades blazing and glinting in the duel and smile knowing the conclusion, no only of the battle, but of their relationship. 🙂

So many things to do — it would be hard to decide but I think I would go to the market to sample the foods, which would also give me the chance to “watch the animals” as my BIL used to call it when he would accompany my sister to trade shows and markets before they both past away.   520. Thank you for the chance to own this beautiful collection! I love flowers so would head straight for the nearest garden center to get my hands on some native dahlias. I’d ask for the care and feeding of them to make sure they could grow well at home. Then I’d probably go have lunch somewhere on the Terraces and admire the plains below as well as the moons above.

    I would then have fun browsing the stalls and merchants and perhaps pick up a random bracelet and discover a new skill before heading to the shuttle to take me home.

  571. A chance to visit Rada?!! The first time I read it I fantasized about all of the Dahlias!! As a very amateur flower gardener I would talk to as many locals as possible about growing techniques, soils, fertilizers, pest control, different strains/types hybrid and heirloom stock,,,,,,, the list is endless and of course beg and barter for some seeds, bulbs and tubers (bring some of my own to share) Since this is a fantasy world I wouldn’t have to worry about travel and transport restrictions of course 😉
    Then I would have to go find a outdoor cafe and relax, meet more locals and share some passion cones. It would be such a joyful relaxing trip. I think I’m going to go to a garden nursery today.
