Lol…The little guy looks very content in the second ‘after rain’ photo. ? Dogs can find joy in many things – something else we can learn from them ?

I could’ve sworn it was hailing down here in SA. By the time I grabbed the dogs and brought them in, they were soaked in mud and thoroughly pleased with themselves.

So proud that they got to roll in all the muck! And then probably so unhappy after you cleaned them off!

We had eleven inches of snow, then an inch of rain. Yuck. (No pets to drag it inside, still..)

Nothing like a good mud bath. Spas can charge a small fortune for one and the dogs make their own for free 😉

I had two dogs. One could look out the window at a mud puddle and instantly be covered in mud. In fact, he could walk outside to a sunny, dry day and get filthy with mud. The other could walk out into the mud, roll around it, and be as clean as if I had just bathed him.
Teresasays
Looks Like the puppers had fun.lol.

Oh please mommy, can I play outside? Getting dirty is so much fun! When the boys would go down to the river their clothes came off at the back door. Then they got to hang them on the clothesline and hose off the sand and mud. Good memories.
I had orientation today and found out I start work tomorrow so now I’m scrambling to get organized. This change must be meant, makes me feel better about it.

Well I prefer Mudders to Stinkers. I have had dogs who love to get in the mud and rolling it but would never roll in any poop or dead things. Then the dog who would hate to get in the mud or get wet when it rained but would find the most disgusting thing to roll in. I currently have a Catahoula who is convinced he will melt if he goes out when it rains or is muddy from rain but will happily roll in the dirt and track it everywhere. The half blind boxer mix prefers not to go out when it rains but constantly finds awful to step in then track it all over the house if someone absent-mindedly let him back in. And my old girl fluffy Shar Pei mix WHo’s ear hair keeps growing the older she gets doesn’t care what condition outside is but always trys to shake the rain off still standing in the pouring rain Next to the covered porch.
Nataliesays
Also for quick clean-ups like that they have hose attachments for shampoo that you can get at a feed store or some place that sells livestock equipment. It’s usually for horses or other large animals but you can use it for quick clean up for dogs. I know Mane ‘n Tail has their own brand one but they also have ones made to put whatever shampoo or conditioner you want in it.
Kimmelanesays
a hose-end sprayer (like the ones they sell for fertilizer or pesticides) works like a charm for this.

We have basenjis. We had a pool put in the back over 10 yr ago & they wouldn’t go out back in the mud to pee. 10 yr later, if it’s raining they will not pee in the backyard grass when it rains. We have to put them on leashes & go out front…which is desert landscaping…so they don’t risk getting their precious paws in the (nonexistent) mud! Life w/ basenjis — never boring.
Teresasays
My dog hates muddy paws too
Strangejoycesays
Basenjis are an African desert breed so they definitely prefer dry, Saharan-type (sans wet or muddy) terrain. Lucky you—no mud tracks.

The second day I had my dog, I might have slightly locked us out of our house a little bit.
Good news: my landlords/parents keep a stash of spare keys at their house. Bad news: they were out of town More bad news: their house is on the opposite side of town Extra bad news: it was solidly in the middle of mud season.
Good news: my brand new dog jumps over mud puddles, and we reached the far side of town with her 4 white paws still white. Bad news: false sense of security. My dog is smart and contrary and she has a snarky sense of humor. She doesn’t jump in mud puddles on the road, but we don’t usually walk along the road, do we? Ah, the fresh scent of wet dog and dirty river water.
My white Shepherd, Stella the Princess Dog, tiptoes around puddles. She won’t go out in the rain unless there is a towel in plain view for her when she comes back in. She might melt, you know. So sweet.
Batsays
I noticed that the human paws in the after pic are also sporting a bit of mud

Raining in Houston! No dogs to get muddy here.
Chiraysays
My dog used to be an outdoor dog who never noticed mud or rain. When I he became mine and I let him be an indoor dog (which he loves), he discovered the horrors of getting wiped down, especially his paws, every time before being allowed back in the house. Now he tries to stay clean and detours around puddles because he hates the cleaning process, LOL!
Chrissays
I finally have a solution I’m happy with for keeping up with muddy paw prints. I just keep a spin mop & bucket of water in an unobtrusive location near the door. Every time the dogs come in, after the prints have dried sufficiently, I mop the floor behind them. The key is to wait until the prints are dry enough – because it means they aren’t producing any new prints! During the worst of rainy season, the water in the bucket may need to be changed several times a day, depending on several factors: 1) Number of dogs (currently mopping up after 4 German Shepherds, a Doberman, and a German Shepherd-Great Pyrenees mix) 2) Size of the dogs & their paws – BIG dogs with BIG paws. One looks like dinner plates 3) Amount of mud in your yard – the more it rains, the more of a mud pit it looks like. The dogs aren’t helping any either. 4) Propensity of your dogs to JUMP and then LAY in the mud – oh yes, they play in the puddles just like little boys! 5) Soil type – sticky, clay, sandy, loamy? Which is it? I seem to have all of the above in my yard. (We won’t think about what ELSE the dogs might be running through.) I only have to do this through Monday, then I get to go back to Alabama, where I only deal with 3 dogs, and wonderfully sandy, well-drained soil.

We don’t have a dog but we do have kids. My 2 year old found the biggest muddy puddle in the park, launched himself and then spent a good 15 minutes rolling in it. He was unrecognisable when he came out! Wish I’d had a camera.

Hehe… they look like they had fun. The best of course is if they have mud plus that dead fish smell. That would be a perfect 10 according to the dog.

Sorry to laugh but I would say the dogs thoroughly enjoyed spa day. Also count your blessings as Memphis, my German shepherd mix, had to find the stinkiest deadest thing to roll on and eat. As soon as he could after his monthly medicated bath and day long trip (because it took forever for his undercoat to dry) to vet where he had to be muzzled as he was male aggressive and bit human males (female groomers and techs and vets could do anything they wanted and he would just lay there like an innocent little lamb…) …..
Rain is just water. Mud is environmental disguise to “vanish”/ “blend” better. Mud is fun to play in.
My sister’s labrador great dane mix puppy aka Titan is presently living with me due to his age of 7 months, size (over 50 pounds), and distinct lack of any training or manners such as sit, down, come, heel, no jump on humans, no FANGS,…… He is a shit eater. Not his own which i could correct but this is a farm so he eats bovine, equine, avian, feline etc shit. He also digs trenches that fill with rain water and he wallows. Grin. So hopefully you have now laughed and feel better about spa day at your house. Can not tell you a funny story about the flood except that at least everyone is alive and well. Stuff can be fixed or replaced. Why do you think humans invented duct tape?
Is that a French Bulldog? We had a Frenchie (deceased, alas, at the age of 12). She was fiierce, German Shepherds backed down before (either because they thought she was a puppy or it was a Mom thing) and very strong. Toward her final days, she was allowed to do anything she wanted – including taking the bacon off my plate. She smiled. Life was at last right. She was the Alpha Creature.
Ah, Mud Season is officially here.
Does the new house include a dog shower?
