Magic Triumphs, Kate 10, will not be released until 2018. 🙂 If any Goodreads librarians are reading this, please correct the date if you get a chance. Apparently the date on the site still has September of this year.
We are so thrilled that you really enjoy our books. But you are getting 4 books from us this year and that’s pushing our fanbase pretty far on our end. Three maybe, but four is kind of over the line. This wasn’t the plan, it’s just the way things turned out.
What? How? You’re crazy! There aren’t four books.
- One Fell Sweep, which was pretty much a January release.
- White Hot.
- Wildfire.
- Iron and Magic. (<—Hugh’s book.)
Even if we physically could do stuff Kate 10 into the end of the year – and can’t because we also have two book tours – we would cut into our sales. 🙂 You would be sick of us.

I’ve read the whole kate series again since Jan, and Burn for Me twice in the past 12 months.
She posted on Twitter that releasing a fifth book in a year would cut into their sales. If their books were food, I’d have to pause to wipe the drool off my tablet at the thought of a fifth book. Which I would also buy in hardcover and ebook. (The book, not the drool. Eww.)
She must be talking about normal readers who buy their books, not the ravenous hoard that frequents this blog. We’d buy the phone book if they told us the authorlords wrote it.

I like ‘Iron and Magic’. Think of all the similar titles they can write books under. ‘Steel and Magic’ – ‘Swords and Magic’ – ‘Hatchet and Magic’ (for Julie) – ‘Fangs and Magic’ (any shapeshifter) – ‘Chemistry and Magic’ (for Christopher) – ‘Law and Magic’ (for Barnabas)- Baby and Magic (you know), etc, etc.

Just so you know, I have yet to get tired of reading anything and everything you put out regardless of how much or how little is available or when it’s available. I am a voracious Ilona Andrews reader. But four books in one year is an absolutely astounding amount of quality content to put out, I honestly don’t know how you guys do it. As a devoted reader I so appreciate how hard you work and how all that hard work shows up in every single story. I also appreciate how much you share with us about the business of being a professional writer and all the various reasons you make the decisions you make, it’s enlightening.
No we would not get tired of you. Don’t be silly! You two, on the other hand, deserve a work / life balance and 4 books is a grueling schedule. Adding in snippets, promotion and POV we are a very spoiled BDH.

Kate’s story was originally supposed to be 7 books long, and expanded to 10 – which Magic Triumphs will be. At least that was the last plan I’ve seen.
The main Kate story arc will end with the 10th book, but they have said they would like to tell more stories in the Kate-verse. Just not with Kate as the main character. For instance, I think I read on the blog just recently that they are ruminating over a 3-book arc featuring Roman. And the Derek and Julie story was billed as “Book 1,” so I’m hoping we’ll get more about them.
I’m so looking forward to wildfire and White hot. Having trouble to wait until release date ?
I can read your books a lot faster than you can write them. If you could put out a book a week at your accustomed quality, I could totally read it. However, I do recognize a) that you need some time off, and b) that your accustomed quality requires time to produce. So fine, I will wait until next year, but it’s totally not because I would get sick of your books.

Oh you sillies, we can’t get tired of you. We never know which way you’re going to go. I re-read all of your series on a red basis, because they’re that good. I agree with everyone that we were not, are not, and never will be sick of either of you. Both of you have a gift of storytelling, and it shows with every snippet, short story, and book you publish. That being said, health, happiness, and just shoving us away for a while is good for you too (I know horde, gasp at me saying that last bit, but you got to admit they do need to get away from us for a while).
Thank you for all your hard work in getting us these four books this year. Hugh’s book is icing on a huge cake we’re getting this year. Four books……wow! Definitely spoiled. Now….go spoil yourselves.

You’re probably sick of this reply by now, but I have to throw in my two cents. Never, never, never would we get tired of your books. I can prove it. While waiting for the next release, whatever that may be, (using this only as an example), I do rereads. Yes, I fill much of the waiting with rereading all the Kate stories, including all the other members of that world. Though I’ve reread BFM several times, it’s scheduled for a reread at the end of this month. (just before the 30th) The Edge books, One Fell Sweep, you get the idea. So, please know you’re appreciated. I still laugh at the funny parts (so many!), I still tense up at the scary/sad/mystery parts. Ok, I’ll stop now. Just sayin……
I join the BDH consensus that there is no way we will get tired of reading & rereading whatever you write. I’m in awe of your abilities – writing such high-quality books, snippets, etc., while keeping up with book tours & your exceedingly busy daily lives. I may be (am!) greedy when it comes to wanting more, more, more, but there is also no way I (we, I hope) will ever be upset that you take care of yourselves.

Due to a variety of circumstances, I was just able to read Magic Binds this past week. Thank you thank you thank you!!! I just love how you approach Curran and Kate’s relationship and the epilogue was delightful. Getting to know more of Roman has been great too. And the contrast of the father’s love (good) of Roland with his evil really makes the story even more interesting. And the sense of humor throughout the book — you guys just make me laugh out loud!!
As much I hate waiting until 2018 for Kate #10 (which, if I remember right is the last Kate book 🙁 ), it is worth waiting for so you can write the kind of book you want to write. And I am so happy that White Hot and Wildfire are still coming AND a Hugh book — whoo hoo!!!

Having reread everything you’ve written multiple times, I recently started reading your books aloud to my husband. He enjoyed the Innkeeper books, so we just started the Edge series to get Jack and George’s backstory.
It is not enough just to read and reread them–now I get to share them with someone!
No; never tired of anything you write. I totally agree with the person who said she could read a book a week–except I could easily handle one per day.
You have to do what you need to do to retain your sanity, and by all means please protect those precious creative brain cells. I’m counting on reading your works for many years to come.
Like many others, I’ve re-listened or re-read your stories several times. Each time it seems I learn something new. And I really like how in the Kate Daniels series each book where Kate is not the main character actually fills in more information about Kate.
If you’ve published something that is less than stellar, I haven’t found it. Thank you for giving us a new world with each series you create, of where we feel like we are living it right along with the characters.

Dear Gordon and Ilona, I respectfully disagree with your assessment of our attention span. Even though we, the BDH, sound like toddlers, me! me! me!, we are all grateful for the chance to read each of your stories. Your work has helped me deal with difficult weeks. It has given me insight into my own behavior and permitted me to grow as a person and as a parent. I have just finished listening/reading Magic Binds for the sixth time. That is a new record for any book. Thank you!

I have re-read BFM so many times I can recite it! And I’ve probably re-read one of your books each week since Kate 1.
I have so anticipated WH that I’m getting a fancy hotel room on the beach stocked with my favorite wine, cheese, pate, etc.
I will read it once. Then I will read it again. Then I will read my favorite parts and then the ending again. Then I will walk on the beach. I will always buy and read everything you write.

I have been hoping there would be a new series using silver shark. I really enjoyed it and have re-read it. Of course I have re-read all of the books. I about had a heart attack when white hot took an extra year. I delayed a cruise so I would be home on the thirtieth.
Saving the read for cruise in June. (Right after signing in Lansing.) I may cheat and read on flight to Seattle.
Does this mean Gordon will have time for more Regan povs? Just looking on the bright side. Really when final Kate book is out I will be happy and sad since it will be the end and secretly I don’t want Roland to die, I want him to grow into a granddad

With WH I read the book again for I don’t know the how many-ith time and now I’m listening to the audiobook. You couldn’t publish more books than I could devour, unless you are putting out at least 1 a week. 🙂 If I am on a day where I am doing not much but reading, I will read more than 1 book a day. However when real life intrudes with things like work, cooking, etc, I will still do 3-4 books a week on average. However I will be satisfied and happy with what you put out this year. You have the next 2 after BFM coming out in short order, then I will consider Hugh to be a Kate book. Added in a new Innkeeper starting about the 1st of the year and that hits pretty much my wishlist from you as you are spreading around the books and not “neglecting” a series that I am dying to get a new installment from. Well, unless inspiration strikes for a new short story in the Kinsman line. 😉

I am happy with whatever you produce. I can just re-read or re-listen to any of your other wonderful and previously released works. I am used to Jim Butchers timeline which keeps stretching, so 4 in one year is the mother load of book gems!

I know what you mean – I haven’t knitted since my 4-H mittens (except for a Dr. Who scarf for the cow sculpture in the yard), but Ilona’s projects make me want to go out and buy Pretty Yarn.
I completely agree with the timeline, thing! 4 books in one year is more generous than any other author I can think of right now. I’m used to 1-2 a year, or even 6+ and counting. (I’m looking at you George R. R. Martin.)

My husband keeps his allergy regime going year round, he takes a 24hr polaramine (we call these horse pills because they knock you out) at bed time and a 12 hour claratyne/zyrtec/telfast (non sleepy variety) in the morning 365 days a year. His body doesn’t get to start to react. Its worked well for him he has managed not to have a allergic reaction for years.
Having said all this I am not a medical doctor in any way shape or form.
