Add my voice to the chorus here– the cover is fantastic!
Dave_5k says
That is amazing!
– Recognizable real Atlanta skyline (with some modest post-apocalypse wear and tear);
– Kate the merc! In real working clothes!
– Slayer!
No lion, but as this is Kate 1 it’s quite appropriate to leave him off (sorry Curran).
Shannon from Texas says
I love seeing Slayer, too! It appears to show the visible part of the blade as bone instead of steel, even.
I love when a cover artist seems to have read the book, or at least talked to someone who has, instead of just going with the blurb. Not many do, but there’s a reason why Micheal Whelan’s covers (McCaffrey’s early Pern books, Heinlein’s _Friday_, so many others, are truly Art, not just illustrations.
(I had several posters of his work on my teenage bedroom walls. I wish I still had them, thumbtack holes and all.)
I would love to know the artist’s name…
Laurence says
Wow, I think I’ll buy it, although my husband is going to say I have enough books at home to start a book store…
and I’ll leave a great review on the different French websites selling it.
;o)

Amelie88 says
Oh I remember seeing the French ones on Amazon and reading the synopses curiously. But the old covers were kind of meh if I remember. I speak French fluently and I always wonder how translators deal with English urban fantasy jargon. I just read a review on French Amazon and looks like the translator kept it pretty literal for a lot of stuff, I’m finding them pretty hilarious only because I am not used to seeing those words used like that. Publisher says they will keep the old translator but go over the current ones so looks like some of that could be cleaned up.
I might buy some of them out of curiosity to compare to the English translation. Absolutely loving the cover too, in my head if Kate Daniels ever became a TV show, that’s what the promotional poster would look like to a tee.
Pika says
I’m French and I just still think they can’t really deal correctly with “English urban fantasy jargon” (What I hate the most is when they actually dare to change character’s names…). Sometimes, they can’t even find a proper translation to the title (so they just change it for something far different. Understandable… But why not just let the title be what it is ?!)) That’s why, I always read the books in the original language first, to have all the correct clues and names.
But well, this time, they have the right title and a magnificient cover *-*’ (In fact, I prefer by far this cover than the original one *==>[] hide*).
Connie says
Fantastic cover! Love it.
Maddox says
That cover is beautiful and a really good representation of the book. It’d be fun to see the different covers from different countries all lined up to see how much they vary.
Kathryn says
c’est magnifique 🙂
Patricia Schlorke says
I agree. 😀
nicole s says
oh la la!
Susan says
Love the cover ❤❤❤!! Awesome
diane says
That cover is perfection! just beautiful and so on point.
Barbara says
Congratulations on your continuing success with Kate and co. Congratulations, too, to the person/people who designed the cover – it’s stunning!
Tink says
Loving the cover, too. I especially like it when they put the number of the book in the series on the cover. When I pull a book out to re-read, I turn the next book on its side so it’s easier to remember where to return the book. Wouldn’t have to do that if book number was on the cover. Although I wonder how they’ll handle Andrea’s story? Does that become Kate Daniels Universe 1 or Kate Daniels 3.5 (4.5?) or Kate Daniels 4 (5?; can’t remember where it falls in the timeline).
I’m not familiar enough with Atlanta’s skyline to recognize it, but I do see what looks like some chunks missing from two buildings on the right. The one really tall one seems to be too tall given that the magic makes buildings fall, but I’ll let that slide because I love the rest of the covers.
Bonus is, no one can comment on whether that looks like Kate or not because you can’t see her face!
Lee says
Ha! the really tall one is Saiman’s building ~
Wonderful news and a wonderful cover! Congratulations to you both.
Tink says
I thought that, too, but didn’t the book said the magic used to keep it standing made it look like a giant rock? Or maybe that was just when the flare was approaching…
sarafina says
If you read the announcement comments, it is said there are ruins on the skyline with one non-damaged building. It’s not a photograph, after all. Some artistic license was used.
Olivier says
Great news, my children will be able to read the fifth book finally, they are really exited 😀
And the cover is great, I think I will buy them again to support the serie!
Pat Sciarini says
That is gorgeous! Makes me want to buy them all over again!
ShellyB says
Love the cover. LOVE! The artist did a fantastic job. I’m going to pretend that tall building is Saiman’s, since it is protected by magic and is still standing tall in the books.
Noel says
I love this — so pretty.
JB says
What a lovely cover! Congratulations on being published in France.
Amélie says
Wow the cover is soooo beautiful! <3
Zealith says
Beautiful cover. It kind of looks like a YA cover to me, but it would definitely get me to read the back if I saw it in the bookstore.
J says
I love all your covers – but this is what I imagined when I first read the words “Here kitty kitty.”
MissK says
Oh yea, you’re right. Thanks for pointing that out. This is a great cover for a book that’s going on the screen (TV or movie). It lets them pick any actress.
Christine says
That cover should marry and give birth to the next in the series. It is lovely! ♡
PS I hope the series is well received in France ☺
cmc says
Congratulations you two!
What an amazing cover! 😀
jewelwing says
What a fabulous cover! Now I just need to figure out wth “morsure” means, because I’m pretty sure it’s not what it sounds like in English.
Amelie says
It is almost a literal translation of the English title. “Morsure” is the noun form of a bite. Magic bite or magical bite in the noun form, magique is the adjective form of magic. They didn’t use the verb like in English (mordre) because “La magie mord” which literally “magic bites” would sound kind of stupid. Morsure magique is okay but it isn’t great. I don’t love the French title and usually if the title is hard to translate they’ll change it completely (sometimes replacing it with another English title) like they do for American movies which can lead to… interesting results. The Hangover became “Very Bad Trip” and Step Up became “Sexy Dance.” (Not joking.)
Jenette says
Wow, that is a gorgeous cover! Congrats to you.
Shannon from Florida says
Magique! Cover was beautiful and I did get a kick out of the Facebook translation into English.
Susan says
It’s so interesting to see the foreign covers, isn’t it–their perceptions of the books, what sells in their markets, etc. This cover is especially lovely.
MissK says
Great cover. Leaves her features to the imagination. But of course, I love it for other reasons too.
Samantha says
Absolutely stunning. Makes it hard not to hate the French with them making exquisite style look so effortless. I am burning with envy. Of course I can just buy the book and stop bellyaching. Yup gotta plan.
UlrikeDG says
I want that as a poster! 🙂
Tylikcat says
That’s just what I was thinking.
Rohaise says
Wow!
JenMo says
Why do the French do covers so well?
Charis N says
Just what I was thinking JenMo! Is that French style or what? Probably some poor schmuck in a basement in Peoria picked it out but I’m dreaming Luc Besson!….
Sue Padgett says
What a beautiful cover! They nailed it!
mel burns says
Gorgeous!
Ista says
It’s such a fabulous cover.
Kathryn M Albert says
This wins all the cover art awards ever!!!!!
Trish Henry says
Wow! It’s so beautiful! It captures the essence of Kate. Strong. Self-reliant. Her own person caught in the in the act of observing. Keeping watch over a city that’s in the middle of a slow deconstruction. It’s just so beautiful on many levels. What a gift this cover is!
I also like that it’s femine yet not all boobs and crotch and come hither face and body language. I would pick this cover up in a New York minute!
Melissa B says
Congrats and fantastique!
Rif says
Superlative!
Sherri says
I LOVE THIS COVER!!!
Rhyn Gabriel says
Yes – it’s perfect!!!
Vanessa says

jenah says
Fantastique! Voilà comment j’imagine Kate.
Laura says
Ouais! J’aime cette Kate! I love this Kate — she’s lovely!
Egosumcignus says
I’ve never had an issue with any of the covers, and have found something to appreciate about each, but this is definitely my favorite so far. I’m former military, and this is definitely what I would wear if I had Kate’s lifestyle. In fact, I’d probably ask her where she got her pants!
sarafina says
I like the cover too. It’s more Kate-centric, and the ruins of Atlanta are a nice touch.
MerryB says
Ahh. I will have to get these, and haul out the dictionary. Gorgeous cover, and neat translation for the title.
Julie says
Wow. Just…..wow. I’m not the type to obsess over covers, either for better or worse. I care about what’s in between. Nevertheless, this is impressive. Congrats!!
Charis N says
Vive la France!
Sara Joy says
I absolutely love the artwork! Subtle, powerful & intense, how I picture Kate pictures herself…
Ericka says
LOL. well. maybe not subtle.
Fan in California says
Great cover!! CONGRATS!!!
Xtin says
Yes ! Yes ! Yes ! I love reading your books in english, but sometimes, when your tired, it’s easier reading your favorite books in your language. And the cover is awesome ! Thank you !
Tara says
Best KD cover ever!
Betty Schmidt says
Wow, this is amazing and fits so well. Too bad I forgot all the french I learned in school …
Prospero says
La couvert c’est tres Jolie ca. I believe that is correct as I recall my highschool french. Congratulations. 🙂
Robin_WH says
Oh, what a nice cover! You should point out that one to your own publisher! It´s way better.
Amanda says
Oh wow. What a beautiful cover! Do you know who the artist is? If it might be possible to buy a print of this from him/her?
Susan Linch Ravan says
Great cover and great book!
Gundega says
Wow. Just wow.
Such fantastic cover! It totally fits! 🙂
Saying I love it would not express it enough!
Now I’m tempted to get the french books even thou I already have ’em and barely remember any french from my high school days 😀
Bill G says
Great news! Congratulations.
Robert Batten says
The cover looks amazing.
Arijo says
Oh yeah, the cover is AWESOME (even though the gorgeous TALL buildings eaten by magic are inaccurate, nyark nyark). Of course, I’m never going to read it in French because there’s even more awesomeness lost in translation. Take the title: “Morsure magique” means “Magical bite mark”. You don’t get the sense that it’s the magic, as well as everything magical, that has snap…
(PS: I’m not dissing the translation. Anyone bilingual knows it’s ridiculously hard to get the essence without losing too many layers of meaning and I think the expression “Morsure magique” does a decent job. I sure couldn’t do better. It’s just, y’know… not as good as the original.)
Bronwyn says
it’s a fabulous cover
A cover everyone loves. …..it’s a cover miracle.
dsolo says
C’est magnifique!
Vanessa B. says
Congrats! The cover…. love it!
Gail says
Great cover! The artist did a grew job of realizing the text. I especially like the sword.
This would be wonderful as wallpaper.
Tiffany says
I also don’t judge a book by the cover and have never piped up about yours in the past but that one is beautifully perfect for Kate and the series. It resonates. And Congrats! on conquering France. (teehee).
Ellen says
Wonderful cover.
Laura says
Do you know if these versions will be available to purchase from the US? I would love to add Kate in French — especially Kate looking like this! — to my collection.
Charlotte says
Try Amazon as always.
Patience says
I would definitively read this book looking at the cover. I’d need to know what that woman knows, what she sees, and who she is. Great cover! Congratulations!
C says
Is this a cover that we could purchase a print of from somewhere? One that we could hang up.
Nancy C. says
that cover is all kinds of kick ass! definitely my favorite thus far 🙂
and it’s super cool that the series is being translated into French too
Gentrychild says
I can’t believe Kate is back in France! I am just so happy!
And the cover is beautiful, more than in the Milady books.
Amelia says
Gorgeous.
Sophie G. says
Oh wow this is great news!
<== French reader here and although I have the chance to enjoy all your books in English, my brothers, in-laws and friends were very frustrated to have only KD 1 to 4 in French…
I'm linking the FB announcement to them right now!
Un petit bonjour de Lyon, France ;-))
Charlotte says
De Lyon aussi!!
Sophie G. says
Excellent !
Tu as identifié la maison d’édition? Je n’arrive pas à en trouver trace sur le net ?
Lena says
Wow!!!! I just love the cover. In France eh! All my congratulations!

The cover is amazing!
The first was atrocious, the second not so bad, but this one is really great.
And a new editor too! I hope it will be OK this time.
I may buy once again the 4 firsts volumes just to help… Even if I’have already bought them thrice… First in french and paper edition, in french e-books secondly, and in english afterwards…
No, no, I really don’t like your work…
Thanks for everything you are sharing with your readers, you are wonderful!
Merci pour tout ce que vous partagez avec vos lecteurs, vous êtes extraordinaires!

I love this cover. I wasn’t going to comment because I couldn’t complain, but I decided to just jump in. Did I mention I love this cover?
Caitlin says
Now THAT is a cover.

Wow!! Why can’t the US get covers like this?????
Erin says
Best. Cover. Ever. They nailed it.
Lynette says
Yes I love the cover
Ali says
I agree. My favorite.
Nicole says
Magical Bite, eh?
It’s beautiful. Maybe my new favourite for this series!
Tammy says
It’s perfect! I would love to see their version of the Hidden Legacy novels.
Murium says
Best cover to date!
Sophie says
So they will continue translating? My mom has been waiting for this!!!
Danita Lee says
Love that cover! Gorgeous! I just went past a book because the heroine was supposed to be looking tough with perfect makeup and stilettos. Yeek. Could they stop that already? How is she supposed to run for pete’s sake? Much less fight. Contrast that with this thing of beauty. Well broken in boots, good ankle support, flat, deep soles, sigh. A woman could kick some butt in those things and we’d believe it.
Congratulations on another fantastic milestone. You are amazing folks. I spread the word wherever I can and have grateful readers hooked all over the place. Despite the many hassles and craziness sometimes, please keep doing what you do.
Teri says
Lovely cover.
Sarah B. says
So subtle … love it. A cover elevated to the quality of the content.
Chloé says
We waited so long for her to come back ! We are thrilled, now and the wait can’t be short enough before the released. And they planned to release all the short stories and novellas ! This is great news for us !
W says
Best cover ever! Totally nailed it!
Eva M. says
Someone finally, finally got it right! Now THAT is Kate!
Sidney Shaola says
The cover is absolutely gorgeous. I I think it may be my favorite! Wow, it really is beautiful. I think why the cover works so well, is that it captures one of the main themes of the book; the isolation Kate has experienced her entire life up til meeting Curan (hiding her identity, purposely avoiding close relationships, etc.). Job well done.
Aga says
Now THAT’S a bloody awesome cover. It can proudly stand right next to the Innkeeper covers, in my opinion.
Shannen says
This cover is awesome. It seems very refined and intriguing compared the to older covers.
Oona says
The best cover yet for your Kate Books. It is positively haunting and erie but also beautiful. Why do I like the foreign covers so much more? (Including the Chinese version, LOL).
Pam says
I just got chills. This is amazing!!!! I love it.
