As we’ve said before, we had to bump Blood and Iron to Spring of 2018, because we have to finish KD. Gene Mollica, the artist working on Hugh’s cover, is putting out a casting call now and we have the first shots of costumes in progress. Check this out.
I really love it. We said romantic, but modern, but also a bit regal. Once the model is in it and the photoshopping is completed, I think it will be outstanding. I will try to post more cool pictures as they start trickling in. It will be a couple cover.

Awesome, what fun!
Amanda says
I really love the title! And the dress!
Allie says
Does the person who designed/made the dress make other clothes? Do they have an Etsy or something?
Ilona says
She is a costume designer. I can ask for you.
Mary Beth says
Glad I’m not the only garb-geek. Beautiful dress.
strangejoyce says
Me likes, too!!!! Fingers crossed for an Etsy page. Looks very feminine but not overdone.
Christina S says
Yeah!!! This is a beautiful dress. I would love to wear something like this.
Star says
I really like the flow and form of the dress. Can’t wait to see the final version on the cover!!
Shannon from Florida says
Beautiful!
Gail K says
Love the neckline , great fabric and timeless design. Thank you for sharing .
Judy says
Thank you,,,
Tylikc says
It’s so graceful – I love it.
I’m also fascinated by the process – cover art has changed a lot, and I just love the idea of a costume being made for a cover.
Susan says
Same–the process is so interesting! Love this inside peek.
Char says
Has anybody seen Blood and Iron on Kindle yet for order?
Great dress!
Kamrin says
Awesome! Thank you for keeping us in the loop
Ms. Kim says
Does Blood and Iron happen chronologically after Magic Triumphs?
Gundega says
It’s before Kate 10 😉
Ms. Kim says
Thanks.
DianainCa says
Love the dress! I didn’t realize that you actually made clothes for the covers, I just thought they used whatever the photographer had. Thanks for sharing.
Liz says
Gorgeous ? Thanks for sharing!
wont says
Was it intentional for the dress to be semi-sheer? It’s lovely. I love the little bits you share along the way. Thanks.
kelsey says
is it disturbing that i want to marry hugh?
Lily says
Nope, I got a crush on him in Magic Rises and is still there, I’m really really excited for his book, imagine my surprise on that April fool’s joke, but so glad the author lords had mercy on me and soon I’ll be reading Hugh’s book. ???
kelsey says
i hope it’s a long proper book. not just a mini novella. his character has so much potential…
Christina S says
Spring 2018 release… wouldn’t it be funny if the push date was April Fools Day??
Haha
Tylikc says
I’m impressed by your surety. I’ve been really intrigued by the character since we found out about his background. (And there’s a special place in my heart for people with healing talent who don’t go into the hyper nurturing mode.) But in person? I suppose someone who starts off with “I’m a domineering asshole” isn’t a total rule out, as long as they handle themselves well in the ensuing argument… but it’s not a, um, graceful start to things, y’know?
Tylikc says
(Mind, this just makes me look forward to the book all the more. I don’t read because I expect smooth sailing – and this sounds like pretty much guaranteed fireworks!)
Patricia Schlorke says
Hugh also has the “mad, bad, dangerous, and I don’t really care who knows” vibe. It’s going to be interesting when not only Blood and Iron comes out, but if Hugh makes an appearance in Kate 10. If Kate needs Hugh’s help (or the other way around), let the teeth nashing begin. ?
kelsey says
i want him to be there, to help out because he wants to. voron raised both him and kate and brainwashed them. if kate was eventually able to see the light, why can’t he. it’s always a possibility. i don’t want him to suddenly be good or some goody two shoes knight in shining armor. i want him to be him, embrace his inner psycho 🙂 kate , curran, andrea, etc are also psychos. it doesn’t mean you’re bad.
Tylikc says
(replying to both Patricia and kelsey)
Maybe I’m being overly pragmatic here? Mad, bad and dangerous? Not really a problem. Possibly a plus. Controlling and manipulative? Not going to fly. I’d want a rigorous partnership, y’know?
(Of course, Hugh with his cord cut is unlikely to be the charming manipulative bastard we knew before. Hard to know what to expect.)
If mad is meant in a sense that goes well with psycho… well, my standards for human mental conditions are broad. I mean, take my family. (Or, I daresay, me.) OTOH, major differences in personal integrity have turned out to have wrecked a lot of relationships. I do get the sense Hugh has integrity… Ethics, well, I don’t require that someone have the exact same ethics I do (heck arguing about ethics is a ton of fun, anyway) but ignoring large disparities because someone is really smart and interesting is how you end up with a stalker who is still blogging about their fantasies about you and guns twenty odd years later. (I could just wish I were making that one up!)
kommiesmom says
Oh well, I will enjoy Blood and Iron whenever I get to read it. (I know you said, but “hope springs…”)
Really looking forward to Magic Triumphs, too. I like Kate more than I like Hugh. I can see the potential in him, but he has to actually change at some point and we haven’t really seen that yet.
The cover process sounds interesting. Will you let us in on progress as it occurs? Pretty please?
Thanks for the updates, both books and moving. It helps us (the BDH) keep from whining “Aren’t you done yet” at you when you are working as hard as you can.
Patricia Schlorke says
Lovely dress. It will be interesting to read the interaction between Hugh and Elara.
Priorities: new Kate book, get rid of stuff, move, unpack as much as possible, then Hugh’s book. Possibly somewhere in there, go see the new Star Wars movie. ?

Nice language, what is it? ;op
Simone says
Love it – so nice 🙂
nickole195 says
Wow I must have missed the notice of the delay, regardless we will read and love and devour it upon its release. I am intrigued by the cover process and the dress is beautiful. GL with the move and finishing K10
Laurence says
Hi, same here!
I knew it was delayed but hadn’t realised it would be for Spring and I’m a stalker of the blog.. But it’s ok I’ll wait.
And thank you Ilona for showing us the progress of the cover, really interesting!

Laura says
My first thought was, I just can’t see Hugh wearing that. Then I scrolled a bit further and realized it wasn’t for him, lol.
I’m sure that the cover will be awesome! I’ve seen some stills of Gene Mollica’s work on another project and they were amazing!
I can’t wait to read Hugh’s book. For some reason, I’ve always liked him as a character. Part of me has always considered Nick, Kate, and Hugh as the world’s most dysfunctional pseudo step – siblings.
Catherine says
Ha! I’d forgotten that Nick was Greg’s son.
Christine says
That’s so funny Laura, can’t you just picture Hugh in a pretty white dress a stride Bucky? heehee ?
Patricia Schlorke says
Now I have that picture in my head! Lol! ???
Hat says
It really should be named Warlord’s Price…. I wanted to see how he uses his broadsword. Oh well, Blood and Iron is a pretty good name too.
But first, Kate 10, Kate 10, Kate 10….
Ara says
It’s so pretty! Out of curiosity, how does one find a costume maker for book covers?
Deb in PA says
For a minute there, I though Hugh was doing something a little odd. Great dress!
Kelly M says
I think the question on everyone’s (okay, well, my) mind is, Will Hugh be wearing a shirt? ?
Kate says
Ill be your model! That is me on the right with my nana, mom, and my twins!?
strangejoyce says
Great family photo, Kate! I love to see multi-generations together on film like this. Thanks for sharing.
Teresa says
Gorgeous and feminine.
Belle from Singapore says
Lovely dress and thanks for sharing the glimpses into the process.
Fan in California says
Very lovely — gorgeous fabric as well! Thanks for sharing!
Lisa says
That dress is gorgeous! Thanks for sharing the process, it’s super cool to see.
savil says
just curious, what happens to the dress after the cover shoot?
Regina says
The dress is elegant and is cut so that she can move in it! The fabric will billow beautifully for the cover shot, but for the models sake I hope there is a slip or white catsuit designed to go with it.
What happens to the gorgeous gown designed for the cover after the photo shoot? Are you going to auction it off for charity, have a contest of some sort or does it go to your private collection of memorabilia? Just wondering…
Tamara says
I had no idea that covers used live models and costumes. I guess I never really thought about it. I just assumed there were amazing artists out there that did all the drawings. Or stock photos were used. I frequently see the same face used on the covers of totally different authors/series.
Margaret says
What? When did the release date change? I was hoping for some Hugh for Christmas! Dang.
Actually I’m not sure I can like Hugh, he trapped Kate and Gastek in a sewer and they both almost died. That’s one messed thing to do to someone your trying to get it on with. Of course Kate and Curran are also a bit psychopathic and I like them sooo maybe.
Vasanti Ramesh says
Who is Elara? I seem to have totally blanked out on that. OMG
Lee Schuvie says
Isn’t that a little feminine for Hugh? ?
