As you all know, Ilona and Gordon are currently deep in the writing cave finishing Maggie 2. The cave door is closed. ASMR keyboard clatter can be heard faintly in the distance.

If you look at the homepage, you’ll see a new countdown clock to the release of This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me. Nineteen days and counting.

With Maggie arriving so soon, there will be an influx of fans to our ranks. New blood and ideas, fresh, innocent Horde recruits for us to corrupt into our Dushegub ways. Obviously, we cannot simply throw them into the middle of things without preparation. That would be irresponsible.

These are some of the field notes I’ve gathered after years of careful study. The list is not complete, and I will require your assistance to improve it.

  • Devouring: goes without saying. The book is finished ideally within hours of release. Extra points if you manage to ask about the sequel on the same day.
  • Character Adoption Program: main sponsored charity of the BDH. Any character who appears on page can be instantly adopted by the Horde. We will demand to know their entire life story, “Is there a scene about how …” emotional journey, and future romantic prospects. (Puffles4Ever. Klaus Klaus Klaus, barsa barsa barsa. Never forget!)
  • Petition habits: already hinted at above, the BDH mobilization on request-protocol is famous fandoms over. Teasing us with characters? Jokes about books that don’t exist? We make them happen. Been there, done that, have the ebook, paperback and audio to prove it. Who’s laughing now?
  • Rereading conspiracies: The first read is for enjoyment. The 24 subsequent rereads are for enjoyment and investigation. Why did Linus sneeze right there? Could it mean that he’s actually Augustine in disguise and what does Sergeant Teddy have to say about this? No such thing as “small detail from Chapter 3” and we all know it.
  • Announcement Analysis: A casual announcement, cover reveal, or unassuming sentence in a blog post such as “we are working on something”. The Horde studies this information carefully. Rest assured, we’ll get to the bottom of what it really means. The rumour mill always grinds.

    Also, regarding the Devouring section of the BDH field guide, where it promises extra points if the sequel is asked about on the same day as the devouring:

    Do we get extra extra points for asking about the sequel prior to the publish date? Asking for a friend…

    also can has way to view the results of the quiz so can creep on how many other horde categories there are and how the people answer?

    I may or may not be someone who works in a data heavy field and I find such things interesting.

  19. I don’t really think I’m Team Dushegub but I got such a hoot out of each Dushegub-themed answer I couldn’t resist picking them! Thanks for such a fun quiz!! That said, I do have March 31 blocked so I can devour the rest of Maggie when it arrives… The preview was swallowed whole and has been re-read already…

  20. We’ve know for awhile that HA is contracted w Tor for 3 book, with the first 2 being Maggie 1 & 2. But I don’t think they said what the third book would b until now- yea, Maggie 3! Or did I miss the announcement?

    Is there a known date estimate for future Maggie books?

    • Maggie the Undying will be a trilogy. There are no official release dates yet, because the manuscripts aren’t yet finished.

  21. I’m EXTREMELY Team Facts are King chalant. I chalantly await the release, and am chalantly glad that we have a countdown clock. I’ve been chalantly burning with the weight of so many special editions; what to dooooooo?! I’ve been chalantly gathering the facts from the site and FB page and suddenly remembered…. there was a forum, do we still haves it my precious? Chalantly w*iting… Also when will we get Book 2 for The Breach Wars? Chalantly asking for a friend 😅🙃😏

    • I hear that! I just finished rereading The Inheritance and intensely want the next book! Aarrgghh. It seemed like a good way to distract myself during the madness of this March w*it. But now it’s x2. Team Chalant indeed.

  28. I am chalant. I trust in House Andrews and I don’t believe in conspiracy. I will read all the things they release…and they will release as the muse strikes them. Also mortgages are a thing, House Andrews is formed of humans and they must be able to afford HEB orders. (However, if they could influence HEB to infiltrate the Midwest, I would buy double copies of all their books. I miss HEB.)

    I just wanted to ask if anyone knows (because I plan to gift it to my friends) when Julie’s complete series is coming out? I can’t gift them an unfinished series and I know they would love her!

    • There is no release date set for the sequel to Blood Heir, and a Wilmington Years 3 book will have to come first for the plot to develop.

    HA knows their Horde, that’s for sure.

    Also, I may have to take a leave of absence for a few days preceeding the release as experience tells me that I will be jittery, unfocussed and unable to sleep…

  47. Also for new fans: how in the world are we not all going to be one giant spoiler for them for other series? Example: just trying to explain the #teammetalrose lore beyond the fact that is the name of a beloved ship in the Kate Daniels series just spoils several plot points of the series for KD but also for Blood Heir. Do we just leave it at that? What’s the consensus guys? How does the council rule?

    • To some extent it may be “read comments at your own risk”. But on some chats, members head potentially problematic posts with *SPOILER* or something similar before going into detail.

    • This is a good point. I remember Way Back When, before there were moderators, let alone a ModR, the blog posts themselves were sometimes spoilery (mainly because as a poor student, I had to wait for the next KD paperback to come out even though the hardcover was already out there, so snippets were sometimes spoilers). That at least has gotten so much better. But yeah, the comments… Hmmm… Not sure how we’d pull that off beyond a general “read at your own risk” plus a call to the Horde to be fluffy about spoilers?

    • We could say, “You are now entering the spoiler zone. Read at your own risk.” ☠️

I literally typed “New KD Confirmed” on 20 or so different posts between HA saying there were not going to be new KD books. “The series is done Kate has her happily ever after.” Unnamed female character – New KD Confirmed. Sword mentioned – New KD Confirmed. It’s not bullying, it’s devouring.

    Though I admit, I don’t watch the countdown clock. I either put it in my calendar to get alerts as the Day of Devouring approaches or I just let the preorder announce the surprise present to my future self when an alert appears in my email inbox telling me I’ve purchased a House Andrews book and the squeezing and devouring begins apace.

I have a question regarding archived snippets: I was reading the blog posts about Hugh and Orlanna – if I misremember her name sorry blame sore muscles from yardwork and allergies – but I didn’t finish/keep up with it due to flying out of state to help sick sibling. Now am home and looking for it but cannot find it on the website. Yes, I am aware that I am ‘dumb,’ and not confident with social media, get lost and overwhelmed by it, but if it’s archived, is there still a chance I can access it and enjoy reading it, repeatedly as necessary? TY

      You’re definitely not dumb 🙂

      Once archived, blog content is not available for readers any longer. It can sometimes be brought back, but it is the authors’ decision to do so.

      The snippets you’re remembering were the first draft of a Hugh and Elara sequel. The authors shared the first five chapters with readers for a short time, but later decided to retire the project from serialization. It’s a story that requires quite a bit of careful plotting and back-referencing within the series.

      Because the book will go through edits and may change significantly before publication, the draft chapters were removed from the blog. The authors try not to leave early drafts up long-term, since readers can become attached to a version that ends up very different from the final book, which can lead to confusion between details or disappointment later.

      • But because we are so beloved, Ilona started snippets of a new Book.

        This book is finished and you can buy it now.
        It‘s called „The Breach“. But Attention, once started you can‘t lay it down before read to the end.
        I‘m normally patient, but after waiting every week for the story to continue, i finally had to buy a chalant Shirt.
