House Andrews will be at Coastal Magic Convention in Daytona Beach next week, 22 to 25th February (Thursday to Sunday).

Informal meet & greet

My task today is to figure out how many of you lovely people are attending the convention and would like an informal meet and greet with House Andrews. Unfortunately, neither the organizers nor the hotel are able to offer a place for this, so we have to figure out estimated attendance, timing and venue.

Could you please comment below and let me know if you’re interested and what your preferred time would be? Also, if you happen to know a suitable location close to the convention’s host hotel, which is The Shores Resort and Spa, 2637 South Atlantic Avenue, Florida 32118.

Here is the Coastal Con schedule we’re working around, Ilona and Gordon already have events on:

Friday, February 23rd:

  • 11 to 11:45 am– “It’s A Kind Of Magic” – Discussion about the magic users in our favorite stories. Witches, alchemists, and more. Where does the magic come from? What are the consequences of using it?
  • 4 to 5 pm– “Meet & Greet: Cards Against Paranormal Romance” – Readers mix and match their response cards with our Paranormal Romance authors’ prompt cards for hilarious results!

Saturday, February 24th:

  • 2:15 to 3 pm- “Gods & Monsters” – Mythology has long been a font of inspiration for authors. With such a wide variety of sources, from cultures all over the world, these stories are ripe for retelling. Our authors discuss how they used original myths and legends to tell a new tale.
  • 4 to 6 pm- Book Signing (all authors) open to convention attendees and public

A favor: For ease of counting and organizing today, may I please ask you to only comment if you are attending and would like to meet next week? I love how excited everyone is at the thought of seeing our favorite authors, and appreciate that a lot of you, like me, would wish to be there and cannot for various reasons, but it can get a bit confusing with all the comments.

  2. I will be attending the Con next week. I am staying at the Hampton Inn less than a mile away. Maybe the Hampton Inn will have a space available?

      • Yes I will attend the meet and greet. Any time is fine, other than Jeaniene Frost and Ilona Andrews I do not know any of the other authors.

    We are available on Friday or Saturday at any time.

  4. I’ll be attending the Con on Saturday (but Friday evening would work also) and would like to make the meet-and-greet.

    I’m a local (convention hotel is 2 miles from my house), so depending on numbers, how far you are willing to go and time of day I may be able provide suggestions for a location.

  5. I will be at the con and would love meet Ilona & Gordon. Planning to wear my BDH shirt on Friday so feel free to say hi if you see me walking around lol

    Best time for me would be during the Friday lunch break up until the 4pm panel. So that would be 12-330p on Friday.

    Another time option is Sunday at 3pm after the farewell.

    Meet up options:

    • Cow Lick’s which is an ice cream spot about 5 minute walk down the street from The Shores. They are open 2p-9p Friday through Sunday

    • Cherry Hill Cafe – another ice cream spot a little farther down than Cow Lick’s (5-10 min walk from hotel). They are open 1p-10p

    • Frank Rendon Park – beachfront park literally right next door to The Shores. Open sunrise to sunset and they have pavilions and tables available on first come first service basis. Might be easier to find a space to sit and hang out on Friday

      Do you think the ice cream cafes are suitable for groups of around 15 or are they too small?

      • I think if the group is no larger than 15, both cafes will work. If larger than 15, Cow Lick or the park would work better.

        Cow Licks is a retro style ice cream parlor with arcade as well so plenty of tables. They don’t have good pics on their site but Yelp does: https://yelp.to/ppLSIUhr7o

        I’m happy to help! Only about an hour away from Daytona and I’ll be driving up Thursday afternoon to eat lunch before checking in/registration so let me know if you’d like me to scope out any places.

    • I don’t think this is for those of us just going to that? Though I could be wrong. I think this is for people who are bought the tickets to the convention. Though please correct me if I’m wrong, Mod R!

  8. I am attending on Friday with my husband and would love to meet and greet. The time between the two planned sessions work best. 12:30-3:00.

  14. I am attending – please count me in for the meet and greet! I am super flexible, so any time will work for me, from Thursday evening through Sunday afternoon. I don’t have any suggestions since I only recently moved to Central Florida. Question: would the meet and greet only be available to conference attendees or could I bring my spouse (he’ll otherwise be golfing and checking out local breweries)?

  17. I’m all in! And completely down with group consensus about date/time. I haven’t been to DBS in a while and can’t honestly say more than Cow Licks is very close, but I don’t think it’s very large. I’m assuming you want to keep it beachside and relatively close to the Con location?

  18. myself and my sister would like to attend the meet and greet. the only con events would be house andrews ones so we are free any other time from Thurs through Sunday. I am not local so i don’t know of a meet up place…sorry.

  27. My daughter and I are attending on Saturday and would both like to meet up with you and the BDH. I am also local, so let me know if I can help with anything. I haven’t been to either of the ice cream places, but by the photos, the Cherry Hill one might be better (no noisy arcade games there). The beach park next to the hotel is nice, but might be crowded on a Saturday. I can go scope out the ice cream places and let you know.

    • Update: We drove down to check out the ice cream stores that are by the hotel. Cherry Hill Cafe definitely has the superior ice cream (yum…) and better seating. It seats at least 30. I asked the staff if there would be any problem with a group of 20 or so. They said it would be no problem and they would love to have us. The store is about a five minute walk from the hotel.

  28. Yes attending Friday – Sunday, 1 person and want meet & greet

    Anytime Friday after the scheduled panels of course, Saturday anytime or Sunday morning/lunchtime

    No suggestions for separate from hotel place but even the lobby could work as a starting spot (and a few of us could work to covertly find an empty room to sneak in and appropriate)

  30. Wow! My sister, my niece and I are soooo excited for the opportunity to meet our FAVORITE AUTHORS!!!
    The 3 of us agreed that Saturday or Sunday is best.

  31. I will be attending with my best friend, so 2 of us, and we are 100% interested in a Meet and Greet, something more informal!

    Anytime Fri or Sat would be best, though we could make Sunday work. I have to catch a flight out of Jacksonville back to Virginia at 5 on Sunday.

  33. What about getting a meeting room at a library? They’re free or cheap. here’s the request form for Daytona Beach libraries. I don’t live in FL, so I don’t know which branch is closest. Sorry for posting twice, but I thought of this after.

    • The Daytona Beach Regional library is north and located off Beach Street, on the main land. I can’t give exact mileage, but it’s probably 5 or 6 miles away from the resort and def not walking distance. There are a few other branches similarly distanced, but to my knowledge those are all fairly small. The resort is located in a relative no-man’s land between the northern part of DBS and a residential area.
