Remember how in before Christmas I mentioned that one of our friends received not so good news? This is the news.
I wrote a letter for the GoFundMe. It explains things as we saw them. There are more details at the GoFundMe page. Any help is greatly appreciated.
A. Russo says
Thank you for posting this. I’ve read Grace’s books on your recommendation and will contribute here as well.
A says
I will pray for healing and for as little upheaval as possible for her and her family. Thank you for highlighting this and blessed to be able to do a small amount to help.
Termas says
Thank you for sharing this!
Dianne G. says
My friends mother has this cancer and at the same stage as Mrs. Draven. She went to Europe for treatment (refi of home for around 35K). She had an excellent surgeon, medical care, chemo protocol to be transferred here and paid a minor sum compared to what she would have paid here. I know from experience that cancer treatment and cost here are shameful. It’s mostly all about the money. If you read this, trust me it is worth researching.
Tempest says
Thanks for sharing this opportunity for us to help out.
Zaena B says
Healing prayers and energy sent! Wish I could help more.
Anne from Minnesota says
Thanks for giving us the chance to help out! I love her work.
Diane Mc. says
The American Cancer Society had volunteer drivers that can drive patients back and forth to appointment if needed. I found this out when my sister had cancer and needed to go to treatment and appointments.
Liz says
Thank you for your post. I have been looking for volunteer opportunities that work for me and this would be excellent. I did it for my friend several years ago, so know what it entails.
Melissa B says
Thank you for posting this. I love it that we now have platforms like this!! I will be praying for her too.
Cris Reads says
Thank you for sharing.
Patricia Schlorke says
Thank you for sharing. I also read Grace’s books from your recommendation. I think I have them all on my Nook.
As soon as I can, I will donate. Prayers and hugs sent to everyone.
Patricia Schlorke says
Just donated. I hope Grace gets well very soon. Hugs.
Normandy says
shared on Twitter. Cancer sucks.
Dixie McIlwraith says
You’re a good friend.
Ada says
Such devastating news. I’m going to buy all her books on Amazon that I don’t already have. I hope that also helps.
Felicia says
If you haven’t already be sure to buy the Wraith Kings, Volume 1, hardbound, that came out on 1/17/23. It’s the first two books of the Wraith Kings series: Radiance and Eidolon.
I tried to find an independent book shop in my area that carried it but without much success in finding that particular title. The Amazon link is: https://www.amazon.com/Wraith-Kings-1-Grace-Draven/dp/164197253X/ref=sr_1_9?crid=3K5BRE7SELGMT&keywords=wraith+kings+grace+draven&qid=1674718376&sprefix=wraith+king%2Caps%2C170&sr=8-9
Patricia Schlorke says
I saw this on Barnes and Noble. It is a print on demand book, so that is probably why you couldn’t find it at the independent bookstore.
I have both books on my Nook. They are great reads. 🙂
Simone says
Per her FaceBook post you can get it via Katy’s Books with a book plate
sarafina says
Wow, the GFM was for such a low amount, but it is being exceeded nicely. They’ll need every penny. This a good thing for IA to do, but it’s outrageous that it is needed.
Patricia Schlorke says
I just peeked at the amount raised just now. It’s over $38,000 and hopefully growing. Yay!
Nancy says
Donated.
Thank you for sharing.
Rooting for her and her family.
Daisy says
Donated, thank you for letting us know.
The first time I had cancer, when they were wheeling me down the hall on the gurney to the OR, my husband holding my hand as long as he could, I wasn’t praying to survive surgery, or not to suffer, or to beat the cancer. I wasn’t thinking about my family and how much I loved them. I was running over the insurance forms and referrals and protocols in my head, over and over, praying that I hadn’t failed to do something that would financially devastate my family.
Sometimes, money really can make things better. I hope the GoFundMe raises enough to relieve some of that fear for her. The rest of it sucks more than enough.
Also, it is wrong that this is the way things are.
Ctl says
Yep. The hardest part of my battle with cancer was worrying what insurance would reject and I’d get stuck paying out of pocket. I’ll never not have insurance (if I can help it) but they don’t make it easy.
MichelleD says
It is sad that my monthly battle with CVS over chemo drugs was more traumatic than some of the side effects of chemo. Thankfully, 2B is contained within the pelvis and therefore has a decent cure rate. All the positive energy and prayers to everyone in this battle.
Eleanor W says
My husband had cancer. Afterward it took me 5 years of monthly payments to get the doctors to cancel what was left of the debt. It can be done, but what a difficult situation it can be. I could and did donate what I could. I pray Grace and her family come out of this with the best possible outcome.
Tori says
Thank you for posting and letting us know.
Brightfae says
I literally just finished Phoenix Unbound yesterday. Donation made. Angels sent. Prayers ongoing.
Dorothy says
Thank you for posting a link. I will join the wave of support and positive thoughts for GD and her family.
AP says
I’ve so enjoyed her books!
Thank you for sharing. Best wishes, positive thoughts and support going out to Grace and her family.
Karen P says
Thank you for posting, I shared it on Facebook, and will be praying for her and her family. I started reading her stories on recommendation from here and they are fantastic. I am sure she is an amazing woman. Praying.
LinB says
Thank you for posting the link. I kicked in some and will some later when I get paid. I got a text from a close friend today. Her breast cancer she beat 9 years ago is back. Cancer sucks.
Simone says
Thank you for letting us know – I have donated. I have always enjoyed Grace’s books and wishing for a full recovery for her.
Bea says
donated I hope all goes well
Emily says
I’m sorry to hear this. I’ve bought and enjoyed some of her books after seeing her recommended on this blog. I really enjoyed the joint zoom you did together last year.
I’ve also recommended my library buy her books on the Overdrive app. I haven’t switched to Libby app yet. There is a limit on the number of books you can recommend in a certain time frame, at least for my library.
If you haven’t ever done it, just search Grace Draven, then scroll down. It will say something like “Didn’t find what you’re looking for?” Click the green SEE ALL and all her books pop up and you can click RECOMMEND under any cover.
I also do this for every IA release, even though I buy them for myself on Amazon.
Claudia says
What a great suggestion!
Ready to Read says
Thanks for posting this and letting us try and help if we can.
I did donate what I could.
I have been a reader since as far back as I can remember…. I cross into the holy moly I am how old now? zone. haha
So thanks to all the Authors out there for keeping me sane and hope this
Go Fund Me stuff helps lower the stress a little for a fellow writer.
Mary Ellen Butler says
I actually found Grace before I found Ilona and Gordon.
I absolutely love her world building and the strong stances her characters live by.
I donated and will donate again after husband and my myself get paid.
Please keep this “go fund me” up.
I am absolutely sure others, who love her writing, will donate when they can.
W says
Thank you for posting this!!
Bree says
Thanks for posting this. While I have read some of Grace Draven’s books, as have my daughters, I don’t follow her online so I would not have known about this need if you had not posted it on your blog.
reeder says
Wishing her and her family positive thoughts. Donated.
Thank you for letting us know and the letter you contributed. I hope the donations help relieve some of her and her family’s stress. I’m so glad I could help out a bit, partially in thanks for the wonderful books, but also because she seems like a great person and the world needs more of those.
kommiesmom says
Donated – and wish I could do more.
We need more good folks like Grace.
My best wishes to her and her Patrick.
Jilly says
Donated. Thank you for letting us know.
Hoping that the treatment is successful.
Inese says
Thank you for sharing this. I hope our contributions will help her and she will recover to write more amazing stories
Claudia says
Thank you for sharing. I discovered her writing thanks to your rec, and she’s been on my auto-buy list ever since. In fact, I’ve got her novella ‘Black Hellebore’ on pre-order.
It’s wonderful that her friends and family are rallying around her. May the donations and prayers make her recovery as stress-free as possible.
Kate says
Thanks for the reminder about ‘Black Hellebore’ I had completely forgotten that it was coming out soon.
Patricia Schlorke says
I have not seen this yet under Grace’s name on Barnes and Noble. Once I do, I will order it.
Karen the Griffmom says
Thank you for letting us know about Grace. I started following her after your blog mention and she’s a delight. Glad to help out. Sending positive thoughts her way.
Rowan says
Thanks for posting this. It seems she was working so hard looking after others there was no time to look after herself. I have donated to her now and hope the treatment goes well.
Casey says
Thank you for sharing. I haven’t read Grace’s books but House Andrews helped keep me sane during my own cancer scare; if she’s your friend she’s our friend and I hope the BDH shows up in a big way. For those of you who have been through this, you know the worry never goes away and you’re just trying to deal with it even though you feel weak and crappy. It would be great to take one burden off her shoulders. Donate, even if it’s $10. You have no idea how much this helps.
herisf says
Donated, and as of this morning her GoFundMe is at $60k! Still not enough to support her niece and cover needed care/services, but ???? that the base requested amount has been covered!
herisf says
and I thought to add a link to the GoFundMe on a private forum that I am active on daily. Not sure how many of Grace’s readers are on there (we’re quite a diverse lot from around the world) but I know any amount will help.
Wendy says
It’s growing, thank goodness. I had good insurance and paid $15K out of pocket and didn’t have to do chemo (radiation only). She posted on her FB page that she is already having to fight insurance to cover testing. 🙁 Cancer is expensive in the US. Plus, she’ll probably need help with her special needs son. I am sure any donation helps. I hope there is enough for a couple of years of care and expenses because treatment and post-treatment testing is a long term thing.
Carol says
Thank you for sharing. Donation made.
Pamela F. says
Donated. Thanks for sharing the information and link.
Daphne says
Thank you for sharing. Cancer is a horrible thing and the added stress of daily life can impact healing. Her writing is wonderful with some great characters.
CristinaM says
Thanks for letting us know. I enjoy her storytelling and world building and I’m happy for the opportunity to help. Just donated and I bought a few of her books on kindle. Also sending up lots of prayers.
Cancer sucks.
Mardee says
What a horrible thing to happen – my heart goes out to Grace and her family. I will contribute and I appreciate you sharing this with us. She is a wonderful writer and I hope that her treatment is successful.
PSMH says
Donated and shared on Twitter.
Danae says
I donated what I could but maybe I’ll go and buy a book as well. I don’t think I’ve had the pleasure of reading her stuff.
Johanna J says
Done! Will also keep her and her family in our thoughts and prayers. Thanks for letting us know.
Cindy Montalbano says
As someone who has beat cervical cancer four times I can attest to the veracity of this particular kind of cancer. When they took my cervix out the first time around it came back vaginally.
I have undergone surgery, a form of chemotherapy that was not highly recommended at the time and is definitely not recommended now, surgical procedures and numerous colposcopies and pap smears. I’ve asked the doctor to just remove my vagina since I’m no longer using it. I have other health conditions that have caused me to no longer be sexually active. The doctor will not remove my vagina, because she says it holds up too many other organs in that particular part of the body. This Cancer sucks! Always having to worry about it sucks!
Moderator R says
I’m so sorry Cindy, *big hug*. I hope the bastard never returns!
Kat in NJ says
On a separate note, hope you are feeling better and recovering from your medical procedure Mod R! ????????
Shannon from Texas says
+42!
Patricia Schlorke says

Wendy says
Thank you for posting. Love her work.
LuckyLassie says
Thank you for sharing. I’m happy to help support the Dravens. I hope she gets the care she needs and fully recovers.
Tempest says
I hate that she’s going through this. I hate that she’s having to worry about $ at a time like this. (Insert rant about US healthcare here).
HOWEVER, I love how this is being shared. I love that it looks like 5x the originally amount will be raised in 24 hours. I love that everyone is just “Yeah, you totally lowballed that number. You’re going to need more. Here’s a donation.”
Sarah says
Thank you for sharing and letting us help out. Cancer is not something you fight alone. I had my own round with it. It takes the village. We’re here and will continue to be. I hope the plan is to leave the page up so we can continue to donate what we can throughout the fight.
Rose says
Thank you so much for posting this. I would not have known otherwise. Just contributed. I am a huge fan of hers as well. They are in for a hard battle. I am so glad to be able to be even a tiny part of their support.
njb says
Bummer and happy to help. I have enjoyed her several of her books a lot. I’ll be keeping her and her family in my thoughts and praying for excellent outcomes for treatment.
MAP says
Thank you for sharing the go fund me link; my donation has been sent.
I will keep Grace and her family in my prayers.
DeeAnn says
Thank you for posting this. I saw her diagnosis on facebook but at the time she didn’t want a gofundme page. I’m glad her sister did it anyway. I was hoping for a way to help and I pray that she can beat this cancer.
Dori says
Sending all the good thoughts to Grace and her family. Please let them know that help is available 24/7 from the American Cancer Society’s help line; 800.227.2345. The ACS has volunteer and support programs to help her get to her treatment, among other things. Further information at cancer.org
Kris says
Thank you for making me aware of this. I love Grace‘s work and donated.
Rebecca says
Done. Her books are amazing! They have brought me hours of happiness.
Debs says
Wow! Close to 80k raised. I hope this will, in a small way, lesson the stress they must be feeling. Thank you for making me/us aware. Warm thoughts their way.
Kat in NJ says
I just donated (and wish I could do more.) I will continue to include Grace and her family in my prayers. Thank you for sharing, and hang in there….this kind of thing is hard on friends, too, so take care of yourself.
Denise says
Thanks for sharing this. I too read Grace before I found Ilona. Cancer does suck. And navigating the ins and outs of our US healthcare system is a gargantuan task. I’m donating for GD and her family in my Mom’s memory. I couldn’t help her and we lost her last month. Praying for Grace and her family.
Shannon from Texas says
I’m so sorry for your loss. I pray you find peace and solace, as well as any helpful resources you need.
Amber says
I have read through the recommendation, the page, and all of the comments and I echo all of the sentiments. I would just like to add that I feel blessed to be able to be part of this community. While we are more obviously known for our pushy, content demanding ways, we are a community of loving and supportive people that have been my solace on many difficult days. I know that this did not come about by accident and I’m particularly grateful to the careful shepherding done by HA and ModR to help create and sustain this home for all of us.
Moderator R says
The Horde is known for it’s fluffy ways! The devouring is just a plus!
And yes, all jokes aside, it is a wonderful community that comes together in wonderful ways when it’s needed!
Melisa M. says
Perfectly said
Sleepy says
Sad to hear 🙁
Thank you for sharing, donated!
Nat says
I read the book “Radiance” from her! It was such refreshing! Really loved it.
I’m really sorry to hear about the illness – so thank you for sharing the gofundme – page.
Authors help us all the time with their imaginations, when we’re in a tight spot. Now we can help them a little.
Ps: this community is something else ❤️ I read on the gofundme-page some comments with the BDH-signature ❤️ I love how we all come together to help!
Sleepy says
Radiance is definitely my favorite book from her! I remember when it came out too, we were inundated with “I’m a sexy AH” types of male leads so it was so refreshing to have that turned on it’s head and be completely different!
Moderator R says
This! I think I was so delighted I turned the last page and immediately started from the beginning, it was so refreshing, sweet and frankly hot to have that couple dynamics! Plus I still giggle every time I roll my eyes 😀
Patricia Schlorke says
I agree. Radiance is definitely a great read about two very different people making everything work. The eye rolling makes me laugh every time.
I still shudder about the scarpatine. Vile pie indeed! ????
Moderator R says
It always reminds me of Riker eating Gagh, the Klingon delicacy 😀 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRG_cu4lS4g
Patricia Schlorke says
I saw that episode and almost had to run to the bathroom. I have a strong stomach for a lot of things, but that almost made me gag.
Midwest Woman says
@ least Gagh less aggressive than Scarpatine heh heh. ????
Nat says
+1!! ❤️
Martina D. says
Normally I often shake my head about the american way, especially about your medical system (winks from Europe), but you guys absolutely rock in your generosity and spirit to help each other.
That said I wish Grace Draven and her family all the best. Her books are a treasure.
Kris says
Wow, close to 90k! In a phenomenally short time!
Briana says
Thank you for posting this. Cancer sucks.
Kate says
Impressively, the donations have now topped $90,000. It should ease at least some of their worries.
I wish I thought that would cover all their out of pocket costs not covered by insurance but, depressingly, I don’t. Especially when you add a special needs child into the mix. But it will help. Readers are the best.
Colleen says
Just saw this and went to the Go Fund Me page where they’ve already blown their goal out of the water! It brings me to tears thinking that so many people have to fight our awful medical system and make these hard choices for medical treatment. It also brings me to happy tears that so many people have showed up for the awesome author Grace Draven.
DianaInCa says
My thoughts and prayers go out to her and her family.
Thank you for sharing the link
Raven says
Thank you for posting this. As an fyi both my aunt and uncle went through chemo and they had a social network of friends who got together and made potluck meals so they didn’t have to on a weekly schedule. This may be something to keep in mind for Grace and her family. It really helped mine in a time of need.
Kellie says
Thank you for letting us know! I just donated. You’re a great friend to spread the word to your BDR so that we can help!
Amy Ann says
Done. Prayers for Grace and her family. Bless her niece for taking this on.
Niki in Philly says
Damn damn double damn…I donated and hope she can relax and remain worry free soon! her recovery and treatment needs NO stressors!! My mom had cervical cancer last year and is cancer free now and I know how scary it is as a bystander. Hence my new career in cancer therapy! I know you did this for her but also know what a good friend she and her family are to you all and I hope this brings her peace of mind as well as you as her friends and family. Give her a big squeeze from me when you see her!! Xoxo
Mardee says
The GFM is over $99,000 as of 9:30 pm CT. That makes me happy.
Shannon from Texas says
Crossed the six figure threshold at 10:26pm CST.
I don’t know why it was so important for me to wait for it, but I’ll sleep better now.
Louise says
I love Grace’s books. Thank you for sharing the go fund me!
Midwest Woman says
A 13+ year cancer survivor, I am still grateful to the friends who drove to and from bracytherapy aka internal radiation treatments at the times when my husband could not. For me, fatigue was THE side effect over those weeks and it would not have been safe for me to drive (even just across town to University of Wisconsin Hospital). That’s the case even though my regimen was less intensive than Grace Driven requires.
Hoping there will be enough financial resources via GFM to cover a nice chunk of all costs and enough volunteering friends to drive or otherwise pitch in on everyday tasks. (I didn’t mention the friend who did laundry for us; that too was valuable when we were exhausted;)
Thanks for alerting readers, Ilona Andrews. Grace Draven is a favorite world builder of mine.
Judith Weaver says
So glad that I am seeing a healthy response to this request. Grace Draven has made our lives richer with her beautiful writing and elegant imagination (or beautiful imagination and elegant writing). Prayers for your swift healing. . . and thank you for sharing your genius with the rest of us.
Robin says
Just another member of the Horde happy to pitch in. As a cancer survivor myself I will state there is no such thing as too much help in this situation, but sometimes it was nice not to have the nap interrupted by folks looking for a way to help.
Ruud says
It is a crying shame that sites as gofundme are needed to disguise the disgraceful state of the US healthcare system. 🙁
I donated some money too.
Karin says
I am buying her books. Having just finished treat for cancer myself, I feel for her and her family. I can only say that I am so grateful that I live in Europe.
LBHG says
I just donated and so happy to see the amount has increased to over 104K.
Prayer for Grace and her family????????
Raye says
Have bought those of her books I didn’t have. So grateful for HA, Mod R, and the BDH. Grace Draven is a treasure.
Nan says
Thank you for letting us know. Happy to make a contribution as a way of thanking her for the hours of reading enjoyment she has given me.
Cathy R says
Thanks for sharing as she is another author I follow. I really enjoyed the Zoom you did with Grace and her husband. Donation sent.
Liz says
Thank you for sharing the information. I am currently waiting for results from a biopsy for cervical and uterine cancer, so have a great deal of empathy for Grace. I hope things go as well as possible for her and her family. According to the letters on the GoFund Me page she appears to have a great deal of loving support, which is wonderful.
Kat in NJ says
Prayers and good thoughts sent your way…hoping you get good news when your results come back. Hang in there…
Madeline Coooer says
I don’t know if this will help Grace or if simikar is covered in USA but The Royal Marsden one of the UKs top Cancer hospitals brought out a cookbook in 2015 isbn 978-0857832320 new edition coming out end of feb on cooking for someone during and after treatment. Might be useful. Have donated to gofundme just so you know I am not all advice no practical help. My mum ate spinach like she was popeye and we were very lucky.
Midwest Woman says
Freezing rain, vehicles sliding off roads, downed trees damaging and blocking homes POWER FAILURES: Grace Draven reported this as added crisis for her family on Facebook. (FYI Public can view her site, dear woman so nice, was actually explaining and apologizing for her delay in thanking people for cancer support.) Ice-Apocolypse ???? seems to have attacked Central Texas and Austin news online says most businesses will be closed again Feb. 2. Grocers like HEB that shut early. Concerned about House Andrews coping too, my best guess is they and kids #1 + #2 with all animals are in the region impacted. We already know the state power grid is vulnerable ???? ???? ????
Thinking of our writer friends and surrounding communities. Update BDH when convenient. Electronic communication gonna wait while you folks assure your own basic shelter, warmth, food and damage control.
Moderator R says
I had an email exchange with House Andrews today, their power was restored and they are warm and safe ????
Midwest Woman says
Thankful to get HA update, Moderator R.

Currently going through chemo, and am finding it debilitating. So sorry you are in this situation too. Sending my best wishes to one of my favorite authors.
