Happy Friday!
Graphic Audio will be releasing the dramatized adaptation of Magic Rises (Kate Daniels 6) next Friday, August 30th. It will be released on the same day on all their retailing partner websites as well (Audible, B&N, Apple iBooks, Libro fm, AudioBooks, Hoopla, Orverdrive and so many others).
There will be sea shanties, weredolphins, Hugh as a bastard, Curran will make us mad and then redeem himself and Aunt B will shine bright.
And most of all, there will be PLUMS:
Come on, it was obvious that’s the exclusive sample I was going to ask for when the director offered one for the blog, have we not met before? Desandra supremacy! All fear the Wolf Queen innuendos hehe.
Ok, ok, fine, have the *official* promo samples if you want to be all demure and mindful about it, pffft.
Hugh is struggling with vocabulary. It’s pronounced “Con-sort”, Preceptor:
And Lorelei, you absolute microplastic of a shifter princess that you are. How I yearn to push her off a cliff:
You can also listen to a sample of the weredolphin sea fight on the official Magic Rises page on the Graphic Audio website, if your mind hasn’t been made up yet.
The adaptation will also include the short story “An Ill-Advised Rescue”, with Kate swooping in to get Saiman out of trouble, earning our intrepid heroes a favor that will aid their journey to the mythical Colchis, land of the Golden Fleece.
And that’s not all! Graphic Audio are of course continuing the streak of Kate Daniels adaptations with Magic Breaks, Kate Daniels 7, set to be released mid-October.
The preorder is already live on the Graphic Audio website and retailer partners (Audible, etc).
There are always questions about this so addressing it head on: the only official GA adaptations happening at the moment are the Kate Daniels main series (Bites to Triumphs) in Kate’s POV plus the extras you can find in Small Magics. We already, of course, got up to date with the Innkeeper series.
“Will there be adaptations of the spin-offs with Hugh and Julie? Andrea’s books? The Wilmington Years? How good would Hidden Legacy be?!” I commiserate, but I have no official news to share about any of these future adaptations. Let GA know you want to hear them, is the only advice I have.
For the new commers: compared to a traditional, unabridged, one person-narration, Graphic Audio produce full-cast dramatized adaptations of books, with each character being interpreted by a different actor, adding soundtrack and sound effects, similar to a radio theatre play. Here is a post with instructions on how to create an account with GA and app stream or download the other file formats for any newcomers.
Happy listening!

So Awesome!
Charmaine says
Love the “Plums”. While it should be impossible with the level of goodness contained in each book – each book seems to just raise the bar of goodness even higher. Already purchase and waiting with “P” for the download.
Chris V says
I haven’t tried GA yet, but I may have to with this book! Plums indeed!
Natasha Johnson says
😂😂 I can’t wait!!
Just hearing her (she who shall not be named) voice though makes me see red😡. I would have got in trouble because I would have pushed her off the cliff.
Moderator R says
I don’t think Kate gets enough props for her restraint! (or her negotiation skills)
Emily says
do we ever find out what happened to Lorelei?
did she survive the castle burning, etc?
ps thanks for the clips.
they are **awesome**
Mandy says
Right?! Or at least punched her in the mouth!
Nickole195 says
absolutely love GA….pre ordered and now just you know waiting with some patience…..
Tempest says
Already pre-ordered. Fingers crossed that GA sees that book-devouring applies to audio as well. While I want ALL THE ILONA ANDREWS THINGS, I’m just happy they’re doing the whole KD main series and not wandering off at book 7 or something.
I know this isn’t everyone’s cuppa. But if it is, come sit with me. I ADORE the GA adaptations.
Angela says
You can also find many House Andrews GA adaptations for free(to you) on the library app Hoopla
enjoy!!
Patricia Schlorke says
The plums scene…I laughed so hard when hearing that I had tears almost running down my face. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yep, the pack princess really got me looking for something to stick in her mouth. Too bad Kate couldn’t push her down the hill or something.
The part where Kate is with Astumur and Astany and Curran goes nuts after finding Kate would be interesting to hear. I probably would laugh so hard I wouldn’t be able to listen to the rest.
I’m wearing my Chalant t-shirt today. Very appropriate after hearing Kate and company.
Mishmar and Grandmother…oh boy!
Claudia says
I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to this! I placed my pre-order right after you announced it months ago. I have a long car trip coming up in September; this, and the new Graphic Audio production of the first of the Mercey Thompson series will make the journey so much more fun!
Jukebox says
And the juicy plums foe the WIN!! 😆😆😆😆
MJ Jones says
Wooohoo! While I loathe Loralai, I adore the GA versions!
jewelwing says
Sounds awesome! Desandra rocks, always. Lorelei, not so much.
Tiapet says
I love the clips! Plums – hahaha!!
Can’t wait to hear the whole thing. This book is one of my favorites and it sounds like the GA production will be excellent.
I find it amazing how I can enjoy these stories over and over again in text or audio. Thanks HA!
I hope you all have a wonderful time at dragoncon. The workshops sound great and I wish I could be there with you all. Also, I hope you’re all feeling better, too.

I would love for the Hidden Legacy series to be adapted by Graphic Audio. That is my comfort series I always go back to. It never gets old but I’m also a Texan/military spouse and contracting officer for the Air Force so this series checks all the boxes for me. Contracts, Military background, Negotiations, Strategic alliances, Family comes first, Romance, Mystery and it happens in Texas. Love all of it!!
Elise says
I’m obsessed with the Graphic Audio Kate Daniels. OBSESSED! All that witty dialogue, the amazing sword fights, Curran growling and calling Kate baby wrapped up in a full cast audio. I can’t wait to devour this release.
BDH we need to start a campaign to have Hidden Legacy adapted. We can send a mountain of ferret shaped letters to their office!
AP says
Thank you for all the audio clips! So looking forward to next week!
Nean says

I can’t listen to traditional audiobooks. I blame my parents, they used to read to me before bed and I became conditioned to fall asleep when people read to me. It really backfired on me during university when lazy TAs would read the PowerPoint presentations. But I might be able to listen to the GA productions. Just listening to the above sample seems more like the old radio plays from before the idiot box, um, TV became so prevalent.
Somara says
Like you, I can’t handle traditional audiobooks. Good thing that GA productions is exactly like a radio show. A full cast, sound effects, music… although the music is not all that great sometimes. Thankfully the voice acting makes up for it. I’ve even pimped GA out to my sister who is now also a huge fan and prefers them to regular audiobooks for her trips.
Elf ~*~ says
The Hugh actor is awesome! 😉
Sandy says
I have all the books, all the standard audio books, and the GA versions. I have had the Magic Rises release date on my calendar for months! So looking forward to it!
DHibiscus says
Desandra and the plums! Hugh and the fight scene! Two out of three of my favorite scenes.
Who am I kidding- 2 out of 50 of my favorite scenes.
I really like Desandra’s voice. It’s not what I was expecting- very youthful and almost naive? But it absolutely suits her as the hidden badass who had to tuck herself deep inside to survive.
The oka-something fight scene is just as amazing as I expected. I always loved how Voron’s two students are immediately a super-competent fighting team. And then with last book’s reveal that they’re cousins: it just make the scene so much better. Here’s hoping they have more cousin play-dates fighting monsters and bad guys in future books.
Oliver says
Om om om… that’s me chomping at the bit for this! My fav book in the series.
Cymru Llewes says
*GIGGLE!* I think that I am grateful that there weren’t plums this year (though I do miss having the buttery cinnamon plum tart. We have learned it is just as good with nectarines (with mango schnapps instead of vanilla extract) )
Raye says
Cinnamon plum tart sounds amazing!!! Would you share a recipe?
SoCoMom says
Desandra’s voice is perfect! Looking forward to this!!
jewelwing says
+1 That actor totally nailed it. She’s exactly who I heard in my mind, and that rarely happens.
Jerrica says
I really like Graphic Audio. Yet, I can’t help but hear Steve West’s voice whenever I imagine Hugh speaking. I’m really hoping to have him back for Iron and Magic 2.
Sivi says
yay
Lisa Lenox says
Wait! I have to re-listen to all the other books first! To get in the proper mind set. *pulls wolf skin cape out of back of closet *
Now I’m set.
Katrina says
Just preordered on audible uk and can’t wait🤭 Then as Graphic Audible Magic Breaks was up for preorder too so seemed rude not to preorder that too🤭👏👏
mdy says
Oooh. Jon Vertullo (a.k.a. George Camarine in the Innkeeper Graphic Audio productions) voices Hugh?! Looking forward to the full thing!
Raye says
Nice!!
Ruth says
Hi Mod R,
Thanks for the wonderful news! GA does such a great job.
I wasn’t sure where to ask but will you, with HA permission, do another blog for book recommendations (not the recent audio call that Ilona did)?
I have surgery coming and would love new recommendations.
Thank you.

Hi, All.
Not sure if this is the proper place to post this, but really wanted to share an article from ZDNet about AI, crochet and knitting. It may save someone some time, money and frustration.

When you wrote that Hugh had problems with the word Consort, I literally thought it was a rare moment when the voice actor pronounces something slightly different from main stream. I guess I’m hoping for another outtake reel!
House DeMille says
Dang, after those clips, I had the sudden urge to reread the book! Curran is building a smoker right now…
Trudi says
This book made me so mad and I love it so much!
Wendy S. says
Hurray!!! Just ordered both.
Bryn says
OMG! Atsany’s Voice!! I was in hysterics, hearing that, it was perfect. Being reprimanded by a high voiced, oversized male barbie smoking a pipe is something you’ll never forget. Great job
AmyG says
I’m so disappointed that Magic Rises GA did not include the Magic Turtles signs!
Bookworm says
Most characters in GA are now who I will forever hear as those character: Kate, Curran, Derek, Jim, Julie, Saiman (his blank form), etc.). Hugh in GA is amazing, but Steve West will ALWAYS be Hugh to me. And his other subordinates. I’m still hoping and praying that Steve will be available for Iron & Magic 2.
Bookworm says
*Kate (how did I misspell KATE and not the rest???)
Moderator R says
Misspell what? 😉
