“On January 14th, we would celebrate Treaty Stay, the oldest of the innkeeper holidays. […] The Treaty Stay is the anniversary of the three days when the Treaty of Earth was written into being. The inns had existed before that, but not in an official capacity. On the first day of the Treaty Stay, the oldest inns in China, the Kingdom of Aksum, the Satavahana Empire, Rome, the three inns in the Americas, and the lands of the Northern Venedae hosted representatives of different galactic civilizations. Each inn had three guests, each from a different species: a warrior, a sage, and a pilgrim.”
Ilona Andrews, Sweep with Me. The Innkeeper Chronicles 3.5 . NYLA Publishing 2020. Kindle edition, page 9
Happy Treaty Stay to you too!
How wonderful! Here we are anxiously waiting for the new release and you bring us this charming information. Thank you so very much!!
Happy Treaty Stay!
3rd commenter, woot!
I hope for Sean, Dina, & Orro’s sake, this treaty stay is less eventful than the last. (Although it made for a fantastic book).
Maybe so Caldenia’s’s not bored she can have some family over?

Delicous duck for me please!
Happy treaty stay everyone. ????????
Happy treaty stay. hope Maud, Helen and Arland visit for the celebration.
Happy Treaty Stay!
Happy Treaty Stay to me. I am on a personal retreat by a lake from 14-16 January. I might make this a persona tradition! The sun is shining and the birds and fawns are in the forest. Didn’t realize it was Treaty Days.
Last few months have been crazy busy . Nice to relax and enjoy the days with prepared meals and snacks.
One of the things that makes “Sweep With Me” very special to me is that it is about the Innkeeper holiday of Treaty Stay. Holidays are an important part of all cultures.
Happy Treaty Stay to HA, ModR, and all of the BDH!! ????????????
Yes! I so love the “pilgrim, warrior and sage” bit, it’s interesting to imagine what the wishes and symbolism around that would be in the community-specific folklore.
Happy Treaty Stay! I am enjoying some blood orange cake today with my tea, in celebration.
Happy Treaty Stay! Hopefully Orro is cooking up delicious food for everyone as always.
So that’s why I bought a 9.5 quart Le Cruset oval dutch oven pot today. Orro was encouraging me, and I didn’t know it. ????????
Oooh, which colour? That’s my favourite of their pieces!
Le Creuset is my favorite! I got the saucepan in meringue for Christmas. It’s sooooo pretty! Mine are all round though. I’m curious what the benefit if an oval would be? Although, now I think about it, maybe I could fit a bigger post roast in it?
Ahhh, “pot” roast. But it works for the “post” ;).
I won’t speak for Patricia, but for me it’s purely aesthetic!
There was this Tv show in the UK called “The Supersizers go…” and it was a historical food documentary but done as a recreation, with the 2 presenters immersing themselves in a certain era for a week and eating Regency foods, or Ancient Rome etc https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1242512/
In the Roaring Twenties episode it featured a Boeuf en Daube after the recipe in Virginia Woolf’s “To the Lighthouse” and they made it in one of these oval Creuset Dutch ovens. And I don’t know why but it so hit me straight in the brain in an aspirational way. “Wow, that’s STYLE. I want to be that person and have those dinners” kind of thing. Probably because I was in a point in my life where I was roaming around a bit aimlessly heh. What about an oval pot said adulting to me is still a mystery 😀
The benefit of the oval shape is if you have cuts of meat that would not fit in a round dutch oven pot. For example a leg of lamb or pork loin roast. What I call the weird shaped pieces of meat.
I have both oval and round Le Cruset pots in various colors. Both have their uses.
I have my mother’s oval dutch oven that I use to make brisket. A round pot would not work.
I’ve used a round pot for brisket, but it’s not the most efficient use of space, and you tend to end up with an excess of broth. The oval is definitely preferred.
Plus the brisket doesn’t cook evenly in a round pot as it does in the oval pot.
I cook my brisket in the slow cooker. I find I don’t have to babysit it as I would in my dutch oven.
It’s red or if you want to say it French cerise.
I got a Staub 5.5 quart dutch oven in White Truffle for Christmas. It’s heavy, it’s gorgeous, and I don’t know how I lived for so long without one.
I’m going to do my best Sean imitation tomorrow and fire up my smoker.
Do you think Orro gives Sean as much of a hard time over BBQ as he does Dina over baking?
Does Sean wait for Orro’s nap time too??
Yes and yes, I’d bet.
Happy Treaty Stay to you as well!!!!
About to settle in for a listen of SOH now that I have my audio credits!! Squee!! Happy Treaty Stay all!! Also my baby brothers bday too lol!! Enjoy long wknd if you have one my kids are off mon and Tues from school-wish it wasn’t so close to holidays we would have actually been able to getaway, alas cozy warm with books and hot tea!
Hope they eat in the Drifen rooms in commemoration. Happy Treaty Stay, everyone!
???? I am not ready for guests! I should have been doing some serious cleaning for at least the last week. ????
I recently ran the character descriptions for the innkeeper chronicles through an Ai – though it might be fun to share 🙂 https://medium.com/@ingrid.birdmann/using-ai-to-imagine-the-characters-from-the-innkeepers-chronicles-by-ilona-andrews-13442b53e8aa?source=friends_link&sk=72b547d4c83f9153904ca6e9ae1d5547
Oooh, I really like Arland!
those are awesome!!
Thank you!! I’m glad you guys enjoyed it!
I agree with Moderator R. “I’m a liken me some Arland”
Wow!
Wow! I mean…just Wow!
Those are incredible. Thank you so much for sharing.
Love those…do I see a hint of Alice Krige in Caldenia?
Gertrude Hunt looks like Helen has been adding fishes and ponds in the entry hall!
Love all of these!
These are really on target. Amazing! Thanks!
Wow! Lord Soren! And I, just a mere human woman….????????????
???? We never let that stop us!
I like the way Maud’s came out!
I love the way the Inn is shown!!! That really helped me visualize it so much … I kept seeing a ranch style house in my head when I read the books, this helps a lot, thank you. And really, Arland, I might need a picture for my nightstand .. smiles
Happy Treaty Stay to all !!!
My Treaty Stay Day included receiving my copy of Magic Tides in paperback, which I devoured. Many, many thanks to House Andrews for it!
Happy Treaty Stay!! And excited to see “magic bites” in the NYT fantasy titles puzzle!! Yay!!!
Happy Treaty Stay! I was so excited when I found Sweep of the Heart in my audible library on Friday. I managed to finish it yesterday and Nora Sofyan’s performance is flawless, all the characters come to life. I restarted it this morning so First Scholar Thek could again save the day. Can’t wait for Tuesday so I can devour an other delicacy.
I was listening to the Graphic Audio book yesterday and did a little happy dance at the perfect timing- all total coincidence, no planning involved except for “it’s Saturday and I can relax, knit, and listen to the Innkeeper Chronicles”
Perhaps new merch for the store: Treaty Stay cards!
I had the same thought, but for more Treaty Stay merch than just cards. I’d love a mug with the treaty stay colors and the balloons and tree. Or wine glasses or something to celebrate with.
I seriously want an image of the garden with the chinese lanterns, tigers, and peafowl! Put that on just about anytuing and Id love it!
Happiest of Treaty Stays to you and your house!
Happy Treaty Stay!
Do any other worlds have the Inns? The original seeds had to come from somewhere.
How wonderful my birthday and Treaty Stay is on the same day.
Now I can celebrate two events on this day. (doing the Snoopy dance)
Happy belated Treaty Stay! I didn’t see this until just now, and it kind of makes me laugh because I’d been thinking of an Innkeeper Chronicles reread and now I find out my Mom’s birthday is on Treaty Stay, haha
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Nice of you to celebrate my birthday like this 😉
Happy Treaty Stay! Here, around 14th January (roughly) is also the time when the sun finally starts rising earlier (although it’s been setting later gradually for weeks). So that’s a big boost to the spirits as well. My seasonal affective disorder hasn’t actually kicked in for the past two years – nothing to do with ditching my ex in 2021, I’m sure! – but the extra morning sun is still welcome.
FYI. If one uses the ‘Sweep With Me” link in the post, above, there are two books listed as “Book 4”. One is “Sweep of the Blade”, and the second is “Sweep of the Heart”.
Might want to have someone fix that for ‘newbies’ interested in reading these in the order of events. Sweep of the Blade comes first, as Maude’s position in the Vampire structure is finalized in Sweep of the Blade, but mentioned early in Sweep of the Heart. reading out of order could spoil the surprise for anyone reading Maude’s story.
It depends if you look at them by series or by POV ????, but I appreciate it can be confusing, it will be edited ????
A very happy treaty stay to you all. Thanks again to everyone for all the hard work you do!
I am very excited for kobo to release my pre ordered copy of Magic Tides on Tuesday. I love you guys! best authors ever.
Love it!
Happy Treaty Stay! Time for another read ????♥️
Can we get some lead time for the merchandise store?
Updates are being done as we speak ????, it will all be announced officially ofc on the blog ????
Happy Treaty Stay to you!!
That’s fun, sorry I missed the day!
I have now put this as a recurring event in my calendar. How I would love to stay at an Inn some day… It makes me smile just like “May 4th” does. Why not celebrate the things that we love and bring us joy.
Thanks for the stories as always.
