It’s interesting how different that cover is to ours (US) or even the French Kate covers we got to see. This cover looks so retro to me. Pretty, but a lot like something I might have been forced to read in school forever ago. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Oh I wish we would’ve read Ilona Andrews books in school. Nope, we had to read Kafka and Goethe and write and >Interpretation< about it. 15 year old me was not amused.

PS: have started trying the audio version of your books, but I’m not a fan of Renee B, when she speaks as Kate I have the impression she whines.. I preferred Derek’s audio, although not sold completely yet. But it does make for nicer drives to work.

It’s interesting that the German publisher doesn’t try to translate the title of “Clean Sweep” or its description, or even keep the “Sweep” series theme, but instead they write their own. (That’s according to Google Translate.)
It’s also interesting that the German publisher is Amazon’s subsidiary. Does that mean the German version is offered for sale only through Amazon?
As far as I know, no. I think I remeber seeing a printed version in a German bookstore, but it could have been a second hand book shop so I am not 100% sure
It’s super difficult to translate titles. Don’t know German, but I’m studying linguistics and had to translate texts from English or Japanese to Polish
or the other way around and titles are the worst, especially when there’s a double meaning like in this case. There’s sooo many bad translations when it comes to titles in Poland. We laugh at it at Uni. The movie “Die Hard” was translated as something like “The glass trap” for example ? But as I said it’s not easy to translate titles. And what wouldn’t I give to translate Ilona’s books.

Found the german edition for free and could not believe it. I always have the original versions, because I can’t wait for the german versions. So I read it in german after rereading the original editions to update my knowledge for Maud´s story. It´s funny to compare the humor in both languages. The only negative is the translation of the title. Directly translated back it means “Keeper of the gates”and to me this contains not the meaning of the “Cean Sweep” theme nor the Innkeeper theme.
I´m from Germany and i see this book on amazon.
So, i started to read and i love all the three books, i absorbed the story about dina and her home. i think i´m not the only one in german so we wait for the translate of the fourth book an maybe a fifth?
