Hey Yall,
I’m back, and this time with an exciting & exclusive giveaway! Y’all have probably realized from the title that Ilona Andrews’s has placed me in charge of hosting the giveaway of 5 signedKinsmen Collector edition copies. This is a super awesome event, for obvious reasons. The copies the lucky winners will be receiving are hardcover & have yet to be even unwrapped.
So how do you win? That’s a good question! Here’s how you can qualify for one of these amazing Kinsmen Collector Editions. On this post, leave a comment saying who is your favorite character in the Kinsmen series and why.
This giveaway is open to all readers; 3 copies will be awarded to US residents and 2 copies will go to international readers. Please be sure to tell us what country you are in to be eligible for the international giveaway. Replies to other comments in the thread do not count as entries.
This giveaway will end on Friday, March 8th.
On Friday, I will use a random number generator to select the 5 lucky winners. Like I said, it will be completely random. But to even have a chance of being selected, you have to comment!
Really, y’all should comment. I mean, just look at how cozy Artha looks cuddling up under the blankets with her copy. That could be you! Except you can probably take yours out of the plastic, she can’t because her track record of eating books rather than reading them.
Once the five winners have been selected, I will make a post officially closing the giveaway. If you’re number was drawn, I will personally contact you to give you the good news & retrieve your shipping information.
That’s all you need to know before you enter a chance to win, so on your mark, get set, comment!
Good luck,
Brandi & Artha

Oooh, I’ll play. Meli from Silent Blade. I bought the ebook back when I was discovering the Hidden Legacy series all through that lovely summer when we got White Hot and Wildfire within months of each other. I loved seeing all the little forerunners for the Hidden Legacy world and Meli would fit right in with the Houston Houses.

Claire and Meli are both great, but Venturo stole my heart. He was so good to his family and his scruples were intact after being dissed. A hard worker and sooo confident. And as Jack Palance said, “Confidence is sexy.”

While I love both heroines, my favorite is Captain Claire Shannon. By whatever name she uses she’s an unforgettable character. Using her wits and determination, she survives a horrible situation, and finds a way to thrive in a totally unfamiliar place & culture. And she remains true to her friends & values. She’s been the most deserving heroine of a happy ending I’ve come across in a long time. (Those others would be Kate & Nevada!)
Cynthia Terrell says
I love Meli, I love how she twisted Celino in knots. She’s soft but hard-core, too. Total understated, bad-ass. USA here
JoJo says
My favourite character is Claire Shannon. It’s because of this sentence: “Your hair is too bright.” My mum was brought up in Eastern Germany when the Berlin wall was still standing and this is more or less her story, safe for the magic. The houses were grey. They were monitored by their own Courtneys. They were taught these values, that are described in the book perfectly, since childhood and were told that they were winning, until the end. The kindness of telling someone that their hair is standing out too much is something that would have happened there. She struggled a lot after the country reunited. She was never in the Stasi or anything like that.
She was a geologist. But she lost her job, her skills and values weren’t worth anything and then there was this feeling of being overwhelmed. She once told me a story of trying to buy chocolate. Before, there was one
kind of chocolate bar you could get. Now she was in a store, standing in front of a whole wall of different pralines and flavours, my sister was starting to cry and she panicked and fled with her child. She had nightmares about this for years. I think it’s like being overwhelmed by a flower planet all of a sudden. Questioning everything you know and are and restructuring your entire inner world like we can see with Claire’s forest takes so much strength and courage. That makes Claire really amazing, just like my mum. You can’t just be “freed” or escape a drab system, you have to work hard and be incredibly brave to be a free person. First of all, your thoughts have to be free and that’s something not many accomplish.
Also, “waste” is actually a magical word for my grandparents. My grandfather once drank a whole bottle of dish soap, because he thought it was sirup that was going to waste. He got food poisoning. It must have tasted like crap.
JenM says
I love Claire. She always tries so hard to protect her team and she’s a total bada**. I”m in the US.

I love all 3 heroines in the Kinsmen series, but my favorite is Claire, from Silver Shark. USA entry (Thanks for the opportunity to win such an awesome prize.)

I think Venturo narrowly beats out Claire as my favorite. I love how he kind he is to Claire. He doesn’t want to frighten or pressure her so treats her like a frightened bunny when in truth she is this soldier who has survived so much. It is adorable.
I am in the United States.

I love Claire. I thought her power was beautifully developed and the way it was tightly knitted with her emotional state was great. Her personality (controlled up to a point but underneath it all motivated by kindness) was what attracted me in the first place.

Usa
Amanda g says
It’s hatd to choose, I like all 3 of them. Think my favourite story is a mere formality. Even though it’s short it’s fun. Deirdre would win but then Claire and Meli are both awesome too. So ya, I can’t really pick a fav. As a Canadian I’ll just say sorry, I can’t make up my mind. 🙂

Meli ! Darn autocorrect
Jennifer McKinney says
I definitely have to go with Meli. I love all the characters but she has always stood out to me. She had her world rocked hard and was embarrassed and shamed but she stayed on her feet and pushed through. She’s incredibly independent which really resonates with me as I’ve been that way all my life. She’s strong and brave and those are traits I’ve always tried hard to have myself through some horrible times. She wows me with her perserverence and ends up being such a bada**!
Jennifer McKinney says
USA btw!

Kirsten Parriott says
The Kinsman series is on my To Read list, so I don’t have a favorite character yet, but I am looking forward to discovering mine. I’m in the US.
Kechara says
I think my favourite would be Claire. She has had a difficult upbringing in a very dark and gray environment, yet she has made attachments, developed a conscience and regard for others. She is a good judge of character and knows who to trust, while keeping herself guarded. She shows adaptability, even when exposed to a totally new environment that is a sensory overload. She is strong and intelligent and quite capable. She is willing to risk her life for those she considers people she owes for the care of her mother. At the same time she doesn’t diminish their efforts or belittle those who aren’t as strong I appreciate her protective instincts and problem solving abilities. She doesn’t compromise her values for personal gain and goes toe to toe with those who threaten others.
Kechara from Canada

Greetings from Mauritius!
Even though it was quite short, I liked a mere formality and Deirdre.
Loved how down-to earth and practical Deidre was. And her reaction the first time she met Nagrad and heard of his (sexual) requests was so relatable ha. The dirty pictures/poses descriptions were also hilarious to read and I found myself smiling the most reading this novel.

Valz says
USA. The main character because I love their characters.
Sigourney says
I’ll have to go with Claire! My reason? Well, it’s simply because she reminds me of myself. When I read the scenes with her character I feel as though I’m reading about myself in another world! She is cautious and fearless at the same time. I’m from Guyana and have been a fan of Ilona’s and her husband’s writings since I discovered them back in 2016 (relatively new, I know.) But that doesn’t stop me from hanging off of every word in their books!

I can’t wait to hear what other shenanigans he gets into. Thank you for Kinsman!!!

Talbot says
Meli – she’s principled, protective of her family, a great cook, but really, I enjoyed that she was physically different. It’s not all that often you get to read about curvy women in romance novels AND it’s played as powerful rather than something to be overlooked/forgiven by her lover.
Talbot says
Woah, sorry about the photo. I thought it would become my avatar.

Jennifer Worm says
Meli is my favorite character because she is so dynamic; she has been through a lot in her life, but has not let it ruin her. Also, her way of getting back at *ahem* someone is entirely unexpected (at least, it was for me the first time- I loved it!). Her experiences have honed her into a confident, self-assured, talented person of power.
Stacy Maynard says
I don’t have a favorite character from this series because this is the one series from you all that I have not read yet. US reader.
Ash says
I’m from Canada and making me choose just one is a cruel and unusual punishment.

Just for fun, I pick Kosta because he reminds me so much of my 5th grade students when tricked into getting excited about learning science and history. I giggle every time I read it…”You should’ve seen him. He was bouncing about sniffing flowers. His eyes were this big.” She opened her hands wide and held them by her eyes. “It was all, ‘Kosta! Don’t touch that, it will eat you. No, don’t touch that either. Don’t pet that giant monster… Like trying to walk a kitten on a leash.”

Meli, because first she did everything to transform herself into the ideal partner for Celino and after he snubbed her she became a kickass assassin. And she hatched the perfect revenge plot and even though that backfired on her she held out a really long time before she finally forgave him (and herself). (Switzerland)

Meli is unquestionably my favorite. Her character development was so rich, and seeing her in the many hats that fate forced her to wear made her one of the best developed characters I’ve ever come across. The fact that the story was so short just enforced the skill it took to write such a well rounded, intriguing character. She was nothing like the assassin I expected… and was everything I want from my future dark horses. I especially love the form of her revenge – brutal, effective, and far more poignant than the knife in the dark I was expecting. I wish every writer made characters like Meli – wise beyond the basic solution, with the brains and the imagination to really stick it where it hurts. <3
Even if I don't win, I'm so happy you guys published these stories into a book. And if you ever decide to revisit the Kinsmen Universe, I would love to delve deeper into their world.

Meli is a choice favorite. Why? In the end it was her integrity that stood out. How she withstood all that was thrown at her without compromising her standards. How fiercely she demanded that she be seen as a partner, not someone who would be dependent on anyone else. How much she loved and expected to be loved, despite everything. How she was worth it in every way.

Claire
held her ground doing her duty in a war she didn’t believe in. She held it together when she cam out of the meld to find her superior officer killing her crew.
Knowing she was in a fight for her life she committed to survival. Yet was willing to jeopardize her escape to help those (apt. Community) who helped her (mother).
I liked her style, her determination & her willingness to go after what she wanted. To know what was herself & what was the circumstances that surrounded her.
MELI is cool but Claire had more in depth development.

Ultimately, I have to go with Claire as my absolute favorite – although Deirdre was a close runner-up. As pretty much everyone else has commented already, Claire is just such an all-around badass. I enjoyed all the kinsmen stories and would define love to read more in that universe. But then, that seems to be my go-to reaction to pretty much every single thing the authors have written, so I’m not at all surprised ?

I forgot to say why Claire is my favourite character. She is smart, determined and loyal. I love that she is loyal to her team, the people from her mother’s building on Ulley and to Venturo, her boss. Plus she is willing to take risks and do what must be done to try and keep them safe. She deserves her happy ending.

I love Claire. Despite how the war and the austere lifestyle oppressed her and restricted her personality and agency, she was still there, hidden beneath the surface: smart and savvy. Seeing her transformation as she explores food and her new home, even as she hides her abilities from Venturo was a fun growth of the character. 🙂
I’m in the US, and would love a copy. ♡♡♡
Liesl says
My absolute favorite character in the Kinsmen world is Meli. Even after Celino’s obtuseness pretty much ruined her life, she still found a way to make a life for herself and do something for her family. She didn’t let it keep her down AND she taught him a lesson.
USA here.
I already have the books but a signed copy would be awesome.

I think Meli Galdes from Silent Blade has to be my favorite. She’s a complex character in a short story that has the awesome power of being a melder and is still completely relatable . My favourite character is Meli. She is an excellent example of the depths of both love and hate, but after her revenge, she was not satisfied even though she thought she should be. I was happy she was able to let go of the bitterness and find happiness.
I know Celino and Meli, will totally be laughing about their little mishaps 10 years from now.
Cynara, United States

Claire! She re-invents her life when she has to and steps up to the plate to help her new extended “family” when it needs to be done. (And I really hope I’m not confusing the stories! It’s been awhile since I read it and I read a lot.) United States. ?

Margaret S. Patton says
Wow! Hard to pick just one, but I guess Meli would be my pick. She worked hard to be what she was taught would be expected of her, and when that was thrown in her face, she picked herself up, and made herself over into what SHE wanted to be. But she was still flexible, able to change when her heart demanded it. Think I own and have read (and reread) everything Ilona and Gordon have written, I live in Texas, USA.

It’s hard to choose between Claire and Meli. If I had to choose one, I guess I’ll go with Claire because I re-read her story most recently. I like that they’re both strong women who know what they want in life and then go get it. They’re good role models to look up to.

I like Meli. First, awesome power! She sliced that guy’s head in half with a sweet smile on her face. Gotta like a woman who loves her job.
Second, other awesome powers, like destroying the killer machines.
Third, her total “fuck you” revenge. Not only does she revenge herself on Celino, poetically, she does the same to her family. Unfortunately, she got herself, too, but she finally ended things the way they should have been.
I love that she shows up in Silver Shark.
Deborah says
Definitely Meli! I love both books though!
Buckie says
Claire is my favorite character. I live in the USA.

Ohhhh, I really want to be Artha… cozying up to the Kinsmen in a blankie.
Favorite would be Claire. She’s a survivor. But more than that, she is loyal and protective of those she cares for. She took care of her teammates in the war, she went with Ven to the Sangori’s, fixed the lab results for the people in her building….
I’m in the US.
BMO says
Making us choose between amazing and another amazing, among amazing characters? Rude!
So, basically I wanna be Meli when I grow up, Celino is my man (back off ladies) and Claire amazes me with her ability to start from zero and how fascinated she was with simple things like cooking but…Venturo is actually my favourite of the bunch because I can’t get over how cute he was trying to show interest in Claire while being conscious of their work relationship so as not to take advantage of her. Also how he geeks out over the bionet, despite being a smooth, confident man makes me go all “awww, he’s a dork” ?
BMO says
I live in Azores, Portugal btw ?
Carly-Michelle says
I like Claire the best. She is kind a caring and brave and has a really cool imagination despite the crappy earlier part of her life.

Always liked the name Claire , and I like Claire for her strength and humanity. So she is number one . But I do like Meli and her cooking skills.
Always fun when Ilona has cooking in the books, passion cones, crepes , apple pie made with special apples. Mrs Baylor’s pancakes and bacon. And bacon and Helen.
And I love Artha , she always looks so happy and I love her furry ears.

Meli for me. I love that she’s smart enough to realize that killing Celino wouldn’t give her the revenge she wanted. But she also smart enough to realize that through it all, she still has feelings for him and they could truly make each other happy. (U.S.)

Pam Roberts says
I love Claire because she suffers through so much, works so hard, and gets a wonderful happy ending. Also because her reactions to Venturo are priceless! No matter how many times I read Silver Shark I always go through the same emotional reactions even though I know what happens, and I always cry at the end. If you have not read these three stories you are really missing out on some of Ilona Andrews best writing! Plus the book has beautiful artwork. This is one of my favourite books ever. It is actually hard to pick a favourite as there are so many great characters to choose from. I very much hope there will be more Kinsmen stories in the future.

Elizabeth says
My favorite is Claire. Her entire life was destroyed, and she picked up the pieces and made a new life with an entirely different cast of characters, who became friends. She was willing to chance throwing this all away in order to save the people who had taken care of her mother when she was unable to. She is loyal & inspires loyalty in others, and she is a lot of fun to read about.
I live in the US.
WENDY TOH says
My favorite character is the Passion Cones!! Ok..Meli…but Passion Cones!!
Ariel Vaughn says
Claire!! She’s such a survivor! And her loyalty is her most admirable trait!
Irishmadchen says
I love Claire. She goes from such a lost figure on the edge. At the beginning, she is fighting against everything and nothing has purpose. She can’t get her supervisor to articulate what they are fighting for, what she is literally killing people for, and why it is important. She lives by hit wits, quick thinking, and her inner core of strength. She now has something to fight for and she will fight for with everything she has. Yet, this traps her and she can’t be who she wants to be. Almost half of what she is on her new world is a lie. Watching her fight to be who she is and struggle within the boundaries she created, while at the same time showing that she is willing to fight for those in her mother’s building on Uly struck something in me. Seeing her win, by getting to be who she really is and love as she wants to love is something I treasure. The hidden nuggets of humor add spice and their tone in spots is so sarcastic I laughed out loud. I just love the wit you gave her. Even the way it ends with note from Lianne was perfect. Thank you for this one.
Vicky says
So tough. I like Meli the best, just a tiny bit more than the others. Mostly because of her cooking. US.
Stephanie says

Helen says
Hey Brandi & Aretha! Love both Claire and Meli but I have to say that Meli wins out for me. Maybe it’s because of the references to Asian culture and how she becomes her own strong, indepedant woman in the end. She also enticed him with baking while she chose to be an excise and a covert and principled assasin. In freezing Canada!
Jennifer E says

It’s difficult to chose between several well-loved characters! Meli gets her revenge but her happy-after, Claire overcomes an impossible situation… but I also very much liked Deirdre and how she could stay cool-headed enough to analyse and draw the right conclusion in her own impossible situation. So I’ll go for Deirdre.
I’m from France.

I think these are the only book I haven’t read from Ilona Andrews, so I don’t have a fav character in this series. I hope to correct this very soon.
gwen says

Sarah says
I really love both Meli and Claire, both because of their deviousness, actually! Meli manages to lay an improbable trap and lure in her bait, but stick to her guns and left him according to plan. She didn’t get all sappy and spill all the secrets, and I think that makes her such a strong character and makes it an strong book. Claire is so smart because she hides in plain view, and assimilates, which we see is something not everyone from her home world can do. Not only does she support her old neighbors when they need her, but she outsmarts Venturo, which again, is why I think these books are so powerful. And I’m in the US 🙂
Vanessa says
I would have to say Claire. She comes from a horrible place but didn’t let that influence her and she did her best to look out for those she considers her responsibility. I think she is a strong female leader.

Kay Kazlowski says
Meli is my favorite. She could cook and kill, what a combination. And when she explained why she had no suiters and it was NOT her fault, it really struck home to me how dependent she was on Celino and their engagement. His rejection hurt much more than her feelings, and she was so willing to work on the forthcoming marriage.
Thanks for a chance to win this in print. I was lucky enough to have not read any of the stories earlier, so I loved the book.

Claire.
I loved her loyalty to her team. Her grief in losing them made you see who she was as a leader . Her resilience. in finding the strength to continue and adapt to the conditions around her in every day that passed made you want to be her in times of adversity.
I love that she did not forget those who helped her mother and that she willingly paid back the kindness the minute she had a chance to do so.
I loved the fact that her feelings for Venturo did not make her sappy or less than what she was.

Gonna have to vote for Venturo Escana cuz he was smart enough (& man enough) not to get completely bent outta shape over Claire’s more-than-little deception. And besides he said, “Hey, watch this”–infamous last words for many a situation that is bound to end badly for someone (though not for Ven! :-)) my runner-up might be his Aunt, what with that closing letter hee hee!!
Teej says
D’oh, and I’m in the US!
Lorrie says
Claire is my favorite for her loyalty and strength, but Venturo is a close second. I love that he hired the misfit refugee and appreciated her competence from the beginning. And then the epic, fun rampage at the end was awesome.

I actually haven’t read Kinsmen yet, so I don’t yet have a fav character, though I tend to love main characters so they’ll probably be my favorite. Especially if what I see from the other comments is true. A vengeful heroine? Count me in!
I hope, despite my answer, i still qualify, I live in the US.
Jessica Brennan says
I have to be honest, I haven’t read these yet, mostly because I haven’t been able to get them on audio book yet. I did buy the series on ebook, but my actual reading time is extremely limited. Claire. She was strong without being hard, vulnerable without being weak and completely badass. Without going on too much I just really liked how she wasn’t a pathetic female character and didn’t need anyone else to save her, and also didn’t have to rub anyone else’s face in her total competence.

I’ve read Swine and Roses several times. I loved that she saved her piggy prince! I always wished to see more of her story, but accept that I sort of have seen more of her in Nevada, just a slightly different twist and spin of it. But I’ve read and reread all the Kinsmen stories and have loved all the different heroines. They have integrity, each and every one, that elevates them as heroines above and beyond simply being pretty and talented. I appreciate such attributes.

I loved both Silver Shark and Silent Blade (didn’t read all Kinsmen books) and both women are heroines I like; strong backbone, sense of honor, sexy. Mia Bennetzen says
I like Meli, she is strong and smart – she turned the pain of being rejected into becoming a stronger individual!
I am from Denmark, Scandinavia
mdy says
Claire in Silver Shark is my favorite, mainly because she’s whip-smart, fiercely loyal, repays her debts, and simply refuses to quit. Plus I really like the way she just blew Ven’s mind – both as a psycher and as an employee. Yes, he’s wealthy compared to her, but when you strip away their possessions until all that’s left are the two of them as individuals, theirs was a relationship between equals. I really like that aspect of it.
Cheers from Manila!

Janine says
Of course Meli because she is strong and going her way.
I’m from Germany
Fera says
I like both the female leads actually. Claire is like the calm sea that hides its depth, while Meli is so fierce like fire. Personally though, I love how Meli’s way of revenge because it was intense and so satisfying! Haha
Fera from Indonesia.
Stefanie says
I like Venturo best, because he has not been corrupted by the power hes has (both as a psycher and as the head of a big company). He hired Claire because she really needed help and it was the right thing to do. He never expected anything for that in return besides her doing her job. He is fair, loyal, friendly, charming and has a strong sense of morality. He is a great character and a great fit for Clair and he is not intimidated by her strength but instead appreciates it very much. They are great together and I would love to read another book with them and see more of these two working together.
I am from Germany

Meli, 100%. She’s the perfect combination of tough and soft . I love her confidence and her vulnerability as she handled having to do this last contract for her family.

For me the best of all is Claire. Not only is she the most powerful around, she also has to cover it and live between people who would try to kill her instantly if they knew. I love her.
Greats from the Basque Country (spain)

Claire! This strong physically and emotionally character, defines my favourite heroine, courtesy and imprimt of the AuthorLords. I prefer her over Meli because although I loved Silent Blade, for me it is difficult to believe the end, she is too soft xD

I love the Kinsmen series. My favourite character is Meli. I think it because of the way Ilona and Gordon wrote her. So much pain, hurt, and angst trapped in her. And how diabolical her revenge was. Amazing… btw, I’m from Singapore.

I vote for Claire. She is a very powerful person but manages to be a supporting, confident leader to the people who look up to her, at work and otherwise. She never abuses ther power! Hey there from Australia!!
I bought my copies only recently and although I loved them all, I especially loved Meli. I know she is a favourite for alot of ppl and I like her for most of the reasons mentioned above. However, I particuarly like the fact that ppl keep calling it vengeance or revenge…. to me it was more than that. It was her getting close to the thing she has always wanted deep dowm. She fell in love with him as a child, love him as a young adult and had her heart broken. Yes she rose and became an extraordinary woman. She always kept the broken heart though. You can really feel her struggle with that. The fact she was strong enough to even overcome that to love the man who tore it all apart …… Definition of amazing and awe inspiring.

Claire is my favorite!

My favorite is Deirdre because I just personally identify so much with her job of making sure everything isn’t falling apart around her constantly at work. I play a key role in my workplace in which I am often juggling strong personalities with people of varying backgrounds and trying to prevent disaster as well.
Hey y’all from Texas ?

My favorite is Claire because she is strong and selfless.
Nicole R S says
Yes, Claire, Meli and Deirdre all are wonderful! I however have a soft spot for Kosta in Silver Shark – who doesn’t love an exuberant ape-boy who uses bounding joy to save a sibling? Especially as his near-destruction brings our lovelorn protagonists together.
Nicole R S says
Ah, and this is from Pennsylvania, USA
Christina Morgan says
I like Meli because once everything is out in the open she doesn’t just fall into Celino’s arms. She understands that just because everything has been revealed, it doesn’t make it all better. I like a heroine that requires more before she falls into the hero’s arms. I’m from the USA.
Debi Murray says
Meli, because she is a total badass!

Hard choice, but after all I vote for Meli. I love her perfect balance of tough and soft. And really enjoy to read about person she became in Silver Shark. Such a wonderful woman, wife, mother and still assassin.

Nicole says
I love Meli! She is tough and strong! I always love the kickass heroines! From CA!
Pataponey says
Hi from France.
My favourite character is probably Venturo, because he never uses his ability throughout the novel to invade Claire’s privacy, even though he could do it unknowingly with most people – at least with duds as he first thinks she is. To me he illustrates the difference between having honor and having a good reputation.
Welp, if you’re reading this, I wish you a bonne journée !
Kaila says
Claire is my favorite because she’s such a strong person in her own right, but she has to bury that down to survive and become strong in a new way. It ends up changing her life and she flourishes in this new place. While the other people still cling to the old ways of Melko/Bronwyn with their clothes and fear of the new colorful Dahlia, she evolves and adapts to her situation and I admire that.
USA
Patricia Schlorke says
I’m just commenting. No need to put me in the drawing since I already have the limited edition copy without the signatures.
I like all the characters in the three stories. However since I can only pick one, I pick the new Lord of the Reigh. What he went through to not only get the desperately needed money but to get his bride, I laugh. What a way to buy time! Playboy and late night Showtime have nothing on that. ?
berryblu says
Imelda Galdes. 🙂 I loved that story and the idea of melders.
Thank you both for all of the enjoyment you’ve given me through the years.
Katy L says
Claire is my favorite character in the Kinsman series. Her desire to build a nee life for herself in a completely new world really impresses me. Even more so that she is willing to risk it to save another. From the U.S.
LadyHavoc says
I would have to say Claire is my favorite. I am a military brat that joined the military when I was just out of high school. I transitioned to the civilian world after 20 years and talk about a culture shock. The major issue for me was the difference in the way we handled our patients (I am a respiratory therapist). I relate to Claire because she went from a regimented and colorless world to a bright and more informal world. Military to civilian is similar. The military says dress this way, wear your hair this way, walk this way, this is how you do this. Civilian is “as long as the patient is taken care of, do it your way”. Well, within laws and accepted medical practices. I guess I relate to Connor Rogan, too!
Happy reading from South Carolina, USA!

Hello from Louisiana,
I enjoyed all the stories, but I would have to pick Claire as my favorite character because she’s so loyal to her team and to her fellow refugees. She never takes the easy out, but risks herself to help others. Also, as a transplant to Mardi Gras country, I sympathize with her bedazzled reaction to the boisterous color of her new home!

Hi, I’m from the Lake Tahoe Basin. My favorite character is Claire; she survived terrible hardship and loss but remains unbroken, her compassion and sense of honor are driving factors in her life. She killed many to protect her own, but did not become hardened to death and violence. The scene where she is choked by the psychopath and then calmly asks if she should notify the authorities was awesome.

Meli is my favorite. I loved how much character development for Meli was included in Silent Blade’s short length. She’s a strong and smart person who makes the most out of the circumstances she’s been given. I’m from the Philippines but can provide a US mailing address in case I win the giveaway. Thank you for the chance to get a copy!
Rita Webb says
My husband and I are from Dayton, Ohio! We both love to read everything by Ilona Andrews, so please pick us!
Arly says
Claire because she picked up the pieces and made a new life for herself.
Itohan says
Hi from Coventry, England! My fave is definitely Meli. She was a total badass and I loved the way she gave Celino a taste of his own medicine. So pleased she got her happily ever after as well.
Katrina says
I’m going to go with Lienne. Age is a good family member to have. I’m in the US.
Cristina says
Deirdre! In a Mere Formality. She’s smart and devious! And willing to take a chance. I think, A Mere Formality was the first story from Illona and Gordon that I read.
I am in the U.S.
Dorothy Edelson says
Grandma Frida. Who wouldn’t love a grandma who is both a mechanic and a crack shot. USA
Loganbacon says
Grandma Frida, because she is a lovable badass.
Carrie says
Claire. So, so many of the Kinsmen characters resonate for me, but Claire with her passions and emphasis on duty and loyalty is such a quietly wonderful character.
I am UK-based.
Celine says
Angel, Silent Blade! Would like to hear more of the poisonous Bodyguard 🙂

Lea Bourg says
Hmmm hard to choose but I’d say Claire because she’s such an interesting character (badass but also sassy and very endearing =D)
I’m in France =)
=A says
Kinsmen only? I liked them all of course, but since you include ‘A Mere Formality in the collection I’m going to say that POV character. It’s been years since I read it and I can’t remember her name but she’s really stuck with me. I love how she could think on her feet, pulling on history, science and diplomacy- not to mention shear chutzpah – under high-stress situations.
US
Anna says
I’d chose Claire. She is such a strong character! I’m in the US
Susan Everett says
I buy the the Authorlords books in the e-books version so I always have all of them with me…. but can’t pass on the chance to get signed hard copies.
Eastern NC is still part of the US though I think some of our elected officials forget that fact.

Definitely Venturo. He sounds hot (especially his intelligence). Plus, he is so kind and hates the slur “drone”.
Cynthia says
Oh Wow, give away on an Ilona Andrews book ………

Cynthia says
Ok, I had to go back and review the characters, been a while since I read those books. So for me it’s Claire of Silver Shark. The pressure, environment she had to live under, she survived, she’s a survivor !

Dierdre from A mere formality would be my pick.

I will always adore Meli. She was my first introduction to Ilona Andrew’s writing (I’ve gone on a spree through Kate Daniels and Hidden Legacy and Hugh d’Ambray since), and her fierceness and her heart won me from the very first moment. I’m located in the Netherlands. Thanks for the giveaway!
Jess says
I think Meli. I love a good Persuasion-style ‘look back and see what you missed’ story. I’m in Alabama, USA
Heather U says
Meli is still my favorite. She got her revenge and then some. Of course, then she ended up with the guy. But whatever. She’s intriguing, cunning, and ruthless, and she used everything she had to win.

LKC says
+1 Claire all the way! +1 Canada!!
Mary Allen says
Claire from Silver Shark is my favorite character. She is smart, clever and willing to help her former neighbors even if it means she will lose everything she has worked so hard to gain.
Mercy says
It is a tough choice, Meli is the most badass and cool but Claire is the smarter and kinder one that I bonded to more. The guys hold their own as well, Celino was able to learn from his mistakes and gave up everything for the girl he loved and spent his time helping people and Venturo was a good guy from start to finish. So I think that I will have to go with Claire because of all of them she is the one that I felt for the most.
And I’m in the USA.
Vicky_Vak says
I think I’m going to go with Claire. The strength she has to endure so much to survive is humbling.

Lee says
Meli Galdes is my favorite character from the kinsmen universe because I like how she doesn’t let a broken engagement get to her. I’m in the US.
Smileygirl3090 says
I’m going to say Venturo, he gave Claire a chance and then continued to demonstrate that wealth and power had not caused him to lose his empathy and integrity and that he was loyal and willing to give others oppurtunities to shine. There’s a lot of of love on here for Claire and Meli and they are awesome but I’m a little bit in love with Venturo.
International: I live in England.
VK says
I’d have to say Meli is my favorite but it’s hard to choose cuz all of them are great, have re-read the stories so many times!
(I’m in the US)
Aninreh says
It would be Meli – a woman who rose from personal tragedy, when her world was shattered by a foolish deicion of a man who she thought would be her partner in life. A woman who found her meaning and build her own life, lived by her own rules. And yet she still felt, still was capable of loving and forgiving.
Also – I’m Agata and I’m from Poland 🙂

Roseanne Lobbezoo says
I’m going to have to go with Meli Galdes in Silent Blade. Maybe its because she is the first female character I read in The Kinsman series but she really resonated with me.
As a very young girl raised in a strict , male dominated society, her only value was in procuring an advantageous marriage to further her families standing. When her arranged marriage falls through , but is never formally dissolved, she is left in limbo. No other man would marry her because they were afraid of the powerful Carvanna family who’s son, Celino, was her betrothed.
She is effectively banished. In a world where power resides in those with psychic talents, Meli discovers she is a melder. She is capable of using of energy like a whip. It is a rare deadly talent. Determined to overcome her circumstances, she changes her name and trains to become a lethal assassin. Her success is unparalleled and she becomes wealthy and independent.
After many years, she is determined to retire but her family has one last job for her, to assassinate Celvino; the man who left her at the altar and ruined her life. How could she resist?
Needless to say, things don’t go quite as expected. I love this story and have reread it many times.
Maxine says
Captain Claire Shannon from Silver Shark. Silver Shark is my absolute favorite story and I have read it many times. Claire survived a grey bleak world and when she got to the colorful world of Rada she soaked it all in. She blossomed like the province she landed in. But she was willing to sacrifice everything to help the children. I think she still would have done it even if she didn’t owe the building for helping her mother and hiding her. I would love Silver Shark turned into a full length novel or second book showing what happened to her next.
I live in the US.
Anna Stanford says
Claire! Badass psychic powers! I want to win, I don’t have your autograph yet…
Ana says
This US resident loves Clair Shannon because her survival story gives me strength

Alena Koronov is my favorite in the Kinsmen series, probably because I can relate to her the most. Plus her story is sweet and funny, and it’s my favorite quick read!

Claire because she is compassionate even after the life she has been forced to lead, and of course, I absolutely love strong female characters 🙂 I’m based in the US
Virginia Franco says
Nevada! She’s kick-ass and so caring of her family. I’m in the US.
Olivia Mellahn says
I love Lienne from Silver Shark. Tough Aunts are always needed! And the epilogue of Silver Shark always makes me laugh. I’m from Australia ?
Susan Shaw says
My favorite Kinsman is Claire. She found a way to survive a fatal redundancy. Hurrah from Texas in the U.S. of A.
Nicholi Gold says
I love the Kinsman universe, would love full-length novels in it.. (Puppy eyes)
The conversation in Silvers Shark where Venturo goes on about how ‘restful’ Claire’s mind is made me snort (in sympathy for her situation). The moment in Silent Blade where Celino won’t even hear out Meli about a 5-minute marriage made me so mad. I do not really remember A Mere Formality, am going to have to re-read it.
I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Nicholi Gold says
Gah! I am re-posting, I had misread the requirement.
Claire in Silver Shark is my favourite because: Even after all of that conditioning she went through with her military, the attempt to kill her (and the successful murder of her team by said military when they were no longer ‘useful’). She manages to think for herself, escape, have a real life on her own, and still manages to care about people.
The conversation in where Venturo goes on about how ‘restful’ Claire’s mind is one of my favourite moments in that story, it made me snort (in sympathy for her situation).
I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Tanya says
Claire for sure. She’s got skills. I’m from New Zealand

Claire from Silver Shark. Strong, funny, heroine who overcomes her bleak history and blossoms due to her ability to adapt and is valued for her MERIT and not her sex appeal – love you both Ilona Andrews! I’m USA.
Kylie from Australia says
I like Alena (and the pig) from of swine and roses, but even though its in the kinsmen universe I don’t think its part of this release. I do like both Claire and Meli, different type of women but great characters .
Kylie from Australia
Ed says
I also like Alena and am sorry that this story is not included. The swine and roses is my favorite short story to re-read, but it is not even available from Apple Books .

I love Claire. I love how she’s so willing to help the people from her old building because they’re family. I’m from Utah, USA.
Christina says
My favourite character is Claire. She’s tough and strong and doesn’t lay down and give up when she finds herself in an insane situation. She uses her talent and her brains to save herself. Everything she’s been through could make someone hard but she holds on to her humanity and is an honourable and loyal person. Plus she’s just a kick ass character!
I’m Christina and I’m from Canada
Melinda says
Meli the Assassin;)
I’m from Utah in the US.
Fran Burke says
I especially liked Claire. She grew up in the dull monotone world. She was so sweet about exploring her new lush New Delphi world (what fruit is that) but didn’t forget her roots/honor (prior building relationships) and her “shock” at the “changed” background in the bionet when it now had bright colors.
Sorah says
My favorite is Claire. She’s so independent and strong. I was like ‘you go girl!!’
Sorah says
Oh and I’m from New Jersey
Avinash says
Meli
Definitely
The way she acted out her revenge was unique and interesting.and she didn’t just give up at the end when caravana came to convince her just because she loved him .
And only came back when he had served his time in a way and was in need of someone who loved him
Really different from usual love story plots.

I love Meli from Silent Blade. She’s patient and smart. She finally got her revenge and then her man! I’m from the USA!
Suzanne says
Very tough to pick a favourite, as always all the characters with by Ilona Andrews are amazing. My pick would be Deirdre, the method she used to stall the negotiations was brilliant. I live in Australia.
B says
This is hard. I love Claire’s strength but Meli edges her out. She is so utterly herself. I am in the US.
Terryl Johnson says
I totally love Meli! She recreates herself when faced with a bad situation and doesn’t play the game by every else’s rules! I’m here in Texas, USA! I love everything these two have ever written and am always happy when another one of their books comes out!?
Bruce says
I don’t have favorite, because they’re still on my TBR stack 🙁
(On the other hand, have read and loved the Kate Daniels books, Iron Covenant [waiting with bated for the rest], the Innkeeper Chronicles, and the Edge series … from all of those, I’d have to go with Maud, because she thrives despite [or perhaps because of] incredible adversity.)
I am in the US (South Carolina).
Stephanie A says
I absolutely loved Claire. She was seriously KickA**! She had a strong protective streak and enough power to back it. I also have to say I found it pretty cool that she wasn’t constantly resentful that she had to hide her power. I’m not sure I would have I in me to know I’m so strong and do the best I can at a job that is way below what I could do… I think that’s what made me admire her. She could have been a lot more angry and resentful, and instead she was resilient.
From New York (Not the city!) USA :–D
Fran says
Sorry -fran burke from Washington, USA
Brand says
I loved Meli the most! She had a cleverly vengeful mind, who doesn’t appreciate that? But she also had so many other enduring traits it makes it easy for everyone to find a kind of kinship with her character!

Claire is my favorite. She is so resilient; deported from a world that revolves around war, to a vibrant “peaceful” world. I love how she’s so put off by how much people smiled. And I love that she sacrificed her own safety for the sake of her countrymen. Just love his whole series! From WA state

From USA, I think Meli is my favorite, she re made her life successfully going from a family unit to a solo, then again so did Claire, becoming a solo after a lifetime of being a cog in the machine, its so hard to choose, can’t we have both???
e smith says
I have it but have not read it yet so I dont know who will be my favorite. I keep forgetting I bought it because its on my Kindle.
Ann Madison says
Claire. She is smart and has many skills. Most important, she knows when to use her brain to solve a dilemma. From the USA
Monica says
I loved Celino because he was so flawed. A product of his family who actually learnt to take an alternate path. He is so real and without him the story would be so much poorer. From Perth Australia.

Claire, she’s smart, strong, ethical and incredibly loyal. Australia here.
Chana says
I love Claire! She is loyal, has a strong sense of justice, and family takes precedence over anything else. This is the way we should act. Family comes first. They deserve our loyalty by virtue of being family. As I told my husband when we got engaged 12 years ago. Now that we are committed to each other, you have my complete loyalty. This is such an important philosophy.
All the way from Israel 🙂

Coming to you from Down Under (i.e. Australia):
Claire beats Meli by just a smidge as a favourite character. Purely because it’s amazing of how she adapts from solely surviving to building a life (and relationship as a consequence). I also give a shout-out to how Venturo and Celino respond when faced with their match 😛
Donna Antonio says

Deirdre from a mere formality – love that she follows heart.
From Denmark.

It has to be Meli, she’s unique, the power she has … how she managed to defeat her enemy but in the end going back to him because she loves her, it’s great… and so romantic.
(From Chile)
Drew says
Clair, she puts family first.
Jamie says
Kosta – he’s absolutely hilarious. As Claire says working with him is “[l]ike trying to walk a kitten on a leash”.
On a more serious note, while Claire is a very riveting character (she’s ethical, intelligent, loyal, and strong willed), I like Ven. Good secondary characters really allow the primary ones to shine. Despite all the advantages he’s had based on his powers, position as a kinsman, etc. he’s still striving to be the best he can. He’s more human (and humane) than the other Kinsman while also having this sense of life and fun that the others seem to have buried.
That’s what I think anyway.
Canada
Stasa Milosevic says
I like Meli, she’s smart, deadly but still homey somehow?
Hi from Serbia!
Andrea Miller says
Alena. She has no super deadly powers but stands up anyway. USA
Sylvia says
Claire – because she didn’t forgot about the neighbours who took care of her dying mother and stepped up when her help was needed. And the amazing courage it took to leave a familiar home and change herself to adapt to a completely new environment while working hard – the unquantifiable bravery in the face of all kinds of fears, trials and tribulations immigrants and refugees face – bravo from Hong Kong.

I am also team Claire. I love her spirit and her sneaky nature – hiding there in plain sight. She is a little bit “super hero” with her secret identity by day and a little bit “the fugitive” hiding her identity in an effort to survive but risking safety to help others.

Nicole Babyak says
I reread the series because it’d been so long and I have to say…I love Claire and Meli! They are both amazingly tough survivors and won’t let anything stand in their way of protecting those they love. However, Claire edges out Meli only because she’s a form of either a tiger or shark in the bionet, and those are some of my favorite animals! (I live in the US.)
Cara says
Meli because she said no and stuck to it until Celino proved himself. She didn’t let the demands of her family destroy her. I’m in the u.s.
Jordan says
Hmmmm it’s hard to pick just one! I do really love Claire though, she’s just awesome!

Wheee this is very exciting! I find it hard to pick, because both Meli and Claire are my kind of heroine, strong willed and kind hearted, and powerful but hiding the extent of their power. However, I’m a sucker for revenge stories, and Meli’s clever strategy and her way of vengeance was just, wow. So I vote for Meli.
Thank you for the kind opportunity for us, the international readers. Your books are always a delight to read. Love from Indonesia
Danielle V says
My favorite character is Claire. She is tough and resilient. I love that she is able to get through such a hard transition. Claire is the best, I would have loved more stories about her and Ven.
Sarah says
Deirdre, because she smart, has a ton of knowledge, and is quick to adapt to events around her.
Beth Dubofsky says
My favorite character is Claire Shannon! She survives through such adversity on Uley and comes out so positive once she’s relocated and adapts to her new environment. I had to re-read my digital ones to remember which character was my favorite! Love these books and wish there were more of them!

Noybswx says
There are so many! Claire and Meli are amazing, but then there’s the moms (find them hilarious), Meli’s son, the ‘walked kitten’ (forget name and cat is on lap so can’t get up), etc. Each is given such life and personality.
I call foul, can’t pick just one. -united states
Janie McGaugh says
I don’t currently have a favorite character from the series, because I haven’t read it, yet.
Joanna says
I loved Claire- she was a true leader, protector & knew how to be loyal.
Faith says
Claire Shannon of Silver Shark. I found her story years ago and have read it half a dozen times.
She feels, in an unfeeling world. She protects others. She has honor. She wants, but doesn’t impose. I would adore more stories of her and the kinsmen worlds.
I often feel like the kinsmen world was a precursor to current writing – i want them both!
I’m usa based
Laura says
My favorite character is Claire. I love how she’s both compassionate and tough. She’s also powerful and a great leader! (I live in the United States.) Thanks for the giveaway!

Claire Shannon is my favorite Kinsman character. I love how protective she is of her team. I also like the way she embraces the vivid colors of her new world.

I think Claire – she is tough, but cares and able to figure out how to survive despite extremely challenging circumstances (but still tries to help others).

I loved Silver Shark, Claire

Unfortunately, I haven’t had the chance to read this series because for a while only the second book was available on kindle. But, now I have both and it’s only a question of time before I read them. But, I much prefer paper than digital so having the book would be soooo nice :p. I’m from Canada!

Meli because she’s fierce while still keeping a core of empathy and learns to value herself and her independence even after ego-crushing disappointments. Plus I would love to try passion cones!

Chelsea P says
It’s a hard pick but I love Claire. There’s something about her that just resonates with me. ??
Midge Frost says
I love all the kinsman characters as each are fascinating and unique. My absolute favorite are Claire and Ven! I love their powers, how Claire manages to hide here for a while, how she saves people from her mother’s building, and how and Ven interact. I love how they get together, how their powers work together and how they rampage through the opposition. I would love to read more about them.
Alexandra says
I’d have to say Claire because she had very little money or otherwise, but was as caring/nurturing as she could be while being responsible for her team. Being a kickass psycher is also awesome. Made in the USA (and still am in the USA).
verslint says
I haven’t had the privilege of reading these, I’m saving up for the kindle collection at the moment. So if if do have the random luck to win a copy, Yay me!

Erlene Burley says
I have to say my fave is Venturo Escana. I liked him because although he is a strong psycher and a powerful man he also had a soft side. He gave Claire a job, because he wanted to give her a chance even though his aunt was totally against it and she did not fit the criteria for the position. Lots of love for everything you write all the way from South Africa.

Today, I choose Deirdre as my favorite character because her story broke the loooooonnng wait for another Kinsmen story. Any hope of more to come? (USA)

Silver Shark is one of my go to books when I’m feeling down. A bit of romance, a bit of powers, a bit of space stuff and very well written with awesome characters. So, Claire is my choice.
I’m from Portugal.
Nathalie P says
I love the Kinsmen Universe! It’s a difficult choice but I choose Claire because hers was the first kinsmen story I read!
Nathalie from Scotland
Seth Burke says
Venturo Escana, because he is strong and confident.
Suzanne from Sunny Singapore says
Clair because she showed resilience and fortitude to hide in plain sight.
Susan M. says
I liked all the characters, but after re-reading Silent Blade and Silver Shark again this weekend, I’d have to say Claire Shannon is my favorite. She’s protective of those she perceives as her responsibility, kind, compassionate, loyal, and intelligent. She is very confident in her abilities when it comes to her work but rather insecure in other areas of her new life and in her appeal as a woman, and I think a lot of us can relate to that (including me).
Renea says
I know most people are picking one of the ladies, since I suppose they really are the main characters in the books, but I gotta go with Venturo Escana. He’s smart, sweet, open-minded, and doesn’t hold Claire’s past against her. USA here.
Moritz says
My favorite character is Claire from Silver Shark because she risks a lot to help others when she could have simply stood by and done nothing.
I’m from Germany
Teresa says
I loved Claire in Silver Shark. I loved how she embraced living on Rada and discovered color and texture.
Lydia says
I’m with Clair all the way! She’s talented, respectful, discreet, loyal, and improvises well. I loved watching her experience new things and try different foods! I’m in the US.

I love Silver Shark! I really like how resilient Claire is, not to mention how the relationship develops between she and Ven. But mostly, Claire is just such a super intelligent bada$$ in her own unique way. – USA

Meli is my favorite all the way. Hers is the first novella of the series I read, and hers is the one that got me hooked. She’s smart, she’s savvy, she knows what she wants, and she takes it. USA here. 🙂
Jenn D. says
Claire kicks ass and I’m a big fan of hers. I love how she’s resilient as hell and so determined to make not just a new life for herself, but an awesome new life.

Clair is my favorite. She persevered. She lived in a gray life and embraced the brilliant colors of her new life. She ROCKS! I’m in the USA – Thanks for the give away!!
Vicki says
I will have to go with Deirdre. I enjoyed the compassion and kindness her character showed to the warrior psyche of Lord Nagrad and his people. She was able to look beyond the obvious to find the love and devotion of a strong leader trying to salvage a future for his world. I love happy endings!
Jamie Wilson says
I guess my favorite Kinsman would be Claire, from Silver Shark. I mean she is Bad A$$!! Who wouldn’t want to be able to freeze someone with just your mind. Can you imagine going into a bionet and having to fight for your life? Too Cool!
I’m from USA!!
Denise Neill says
I can’t say how much I enjoy all these stories. I am in the USA.
Janette Ng says
I still love Meli from Silent Blade the best. I was super excited that she made a cameo in Silver Shark.
Jen B says
My favorite is definitely Claire, from Silver Shark (with Meli a close second) because of her growth arc. She literally has nothing to look forward to in her life and gets thrown into life on Rada after hiding her psycher powers. She excels at her job and works her ass off to break out of her drab life prior to the end of the war. So good. I would read so much fiction in this universe.
KJ Chung says
I like Meli, take a bad situation and make the best of it. US

Hi;
I would love to win one of these, and I’m from Canada.
Anton says
I am Anton from USA. While picking my favorite character from the Kinsmen universe is possible, it isn’t easy. I will have to go with Celino. He shows that a man can change and learn { or be taught}and that the best men need a womans’ touch to fully humanize them. Love isn’t a myth and does not follow reason. Neither does beauty. Meli’s history and Celino’s ignorance made it seem that the Kinsmen universe and the authorgods had a plan. I love the series and wish they would write many more books. There are thousands of stories there for the telling and I love hearing them.
Susan Watson says
I still love Claire in Silver Shark. USA here.
Zot says
Such a hard question! I love Meli and Claire, but I think Alena is the most relatable to me. In the US.

I was just about to join this giveaway, but then I got a package in the mail. I was gifted a signed, lettered copy of this by my Secret Santa in a Reddit exchange. I’m so excited. And yes, I may be bragging a little bit. Because did I say I was so excited?
It’s a beautiful book, simply beautiful.
dradair says
I love everything about the Kinsman Universe. I’d have to say that Claire Shannon is my favorite character. Even in an environment where every particle of individuality has been meticulously curtailed, she was quietly supportive of those around her. Once she landed on Rada, she had the courage to experiment to determine what she liked. Her strength of character allowed her to succeed where most would have failed. USA
Kareni says
I’ll cast my vote for Claire. (USA)
Marcia says
I started by thinking Claire of course! But actually it’s Meli because she’s lethal yet understated – like Claire – but she bakes and I love how she reels in her fish with pastries.
I’m in Australia.
Andrea D Smith says
Claire, from Silver Shark. I enjoyed her learning how to cook and kicking ass.
??
Whitney says
Claire is my favorite character. I’ve read Silver Shark so many times. Her perseverance is amazing. She’s a survivor, a quick thinker, and she’s still vulnerable at times. I love her exploration of food, tea, and the whole new, overwhelming environment she finds herself in. She dives right in even though she has had so much loss and could give up at anytime instead. She helps her people without question. (I’m from the US)
Thanks for running this giveaway!
Ree says
This is really hard – I do really like Meli, but I think Claire is probably my favorite. I love how both guys were clueless until the end.
Elaura says
Claire in Silver Shark is my favorite because of her ability to make those tough decisions and not hesitate. She protects those she has responsibility for and isn’t afraid to let them do their job and pick up the slack of others that aren’t. She is someone I hope to keep growing into as a person.
P.S. I’m in the US
Alexis Harris says
I love Claire Shannon because she felt the most relatable. Even though she had grown up with war, she still maintained a lightness and humor to her. Plus, haven’t we all felt as if we’ve been in a situation that makes us feel like an outsider to something we could never have?!?! I know I’ve been there for sure. The scene with Claire and Ven at Meli and Cavanna’s house totally hits home.
With that all said, I’d love to see Kosta grown up! He seems to contain such spirit that it would be interesting to see him as an adult.
I’m in the USA and love all things Ilona Andrews 🙂
Laura Moore says
Deidre from A Mere Formality! USA
Rue says
Claire is probably my favorite because her entire life is destroyed and she immediately goes out and starts fighting to make the best of what she’s given, and because she’s a genuinely kind person in spite of the lack of kindness throughout most of her adult life.
USA!

Claire is my favorite along with the neighborhood association. I love how they take care of each other. I am in the USA

Claire is my favorite! I like how strong she is. Her whole world is gone but she adjusts and makes a new, better life for herself in a completely foreign place.

I’d love to give it a try! International/Australia
Irene Simitlioti says
Hi, I’m Irene and I live in Greece!
My favorite is by far Meli, who is a strong, confident woman and a badass killer, of course. And even though she is far from happy, she is content with the life she has made for herself and comfortable in her own skin. I appreciated how she seeks revenge and still didn’t allow all this bitterness to destroy her chance at a HEA.
Aphelia says
Thanks so much for this awesome giveaway – Artha is super cute too! I’m from Canada, and I love the Kate Daniels series but I haven’t had the chance to try the Kinsmen books yet – and would really love to do so 🙂

Claire from Silver Shark. Her strength to survive and live are beautiful. USA
Irmel says
Hiya, I like the Duke of Rodkill – that snappy comeback Deirdre could have answered to Lord Nagrads proposal would have been so well deserved and had me laughing. I can empathise with her, as well – oh, those comebacks that come to me – 10 minutes too late…

Kelly M says
Meli is by far my favorite – she’s completely kick-ass, but also didn’t let pride and hurt ultimately keep her from happiness (of course she made sure Celino suffered first!).
Amanda H says
I loved Meli – mostly because I enjoy a good sneaky character – but also I loved how she still enjoys the everyday task of baking or sight of flowers even with her deadly profession. Just because you trained as an assassin doesn’t exclude you from baking!
USA

Hi there, although of course i liked the heroins mel and claire (i mean how can you not love two bada$$ess like them?) my fav character is lienne. Although at the beginning she was harsh, she stood up to claire when she thought she needed help and she very quickly warmed up to her and accepted claire into the family. Im from israel
Eva M. says
I’m one more who adores Claire from Silver Shark. How loyal she was to her team, and her anguish when they are murdered just got to me. But even in her pain, she didn’t stop surviving and moving forward. I want to be that kind of strong!

Beth says
I love Claire. Thank you for this opportunity! I live in USA
Maggie says
I honestly love them both, but Claire has my vote because of her resilience and smarts–the amount of effort, brains, and will it took to make it off her doomed home world and thrive in a completely foreign environment was AMAZING.
(Of course, I have to give props to Meli for being the QUEEN of the long game, too.)
I’m in the U.S.

Meli, because of her cooking skills, but I also have experience with changing yourself so someone will love you, but being rejected. It resonated. I’m on the waiting list for the others from my library.
Sarah says
Claire, especially that first few chapters of her life on Uley, and the difference in the Bionet on the different planets. And how she experiences all these new things and took them in stride. She encouraged me to explore SiFi in books, not just films.

Claire is my favorite bec she’s such a badass! ❤️ I’m from the Philippines!
Cheryl says
Celino is my favorite character because he grows into being a better person from his experiences in life. It is nice that he got the happy ending, but clearly that wasn’t his motivation to change since it took two years for the happy ending. I like to think it did it because he had learned it was the right thing to do and he did it with no expectations of reward. (US)
Craig Anderson says
I really loved Claire in Silver Shark although there is not much difference in my appreciation of all of the leading ladies. In fact one of the things I really enjoy about the Kinsman stories is that all of the main characters have real depth in a very short amount of word space.
Ylva says
Deidre from A Mere Formality is my favourite. Razor sharp intellect, unflappable, and as for thinking of turning an almost endless list of sexual positions into a diplomatic negotiation: she’s intriguingly complex and nuanced.
From: Australia.
Fera says
I like all the lead characters in both stories actually, especially the female lead. Claire is like the calm deep sea while Meli is as fierce as fire! I personally love how Meli executes her ‘revenge’ though.
Cheers,
Fera from Indonesia

My favorite character is Claire from Silver Shark. While Meli has great points I identify better with Claire, she has been at rock bottom and had to work her way back up. I also liked her relationships with other characters, she is deeply loyal and caring even coming from a society which tried to rip that out of her.
I live in Australia.
Renee Newton says
I live in the US and I like Claire. She goes through a lot of personal growth and fear and yet she never lets this stop her from moving forward. She also never thinks a job is too far beneath her, but strives to do the best job possible at whatever she is assigned, including challenging herself to cooking.

Meli is my favorite because of her practical approach to make the best of her life despite obstacles that are out of her control. I love that she refined her talents in melding, cooking, and gardening. And I appreciated that she didn’t fall into Celino’s arms right when he finally realized who she was and how badly he hurt her. I also liked that she did indeed hit him like a brick once she grew up. I’m in the USA.

I like Claire because she owns her look. She decides to be the best she can be for herself, and not others. The job was a catalyst not her defining feature.
Rhonda Schumacher says
I loved all of the characters from the Kinsmen Universe, but for the purpose of this contest I’m going to go with Meli. I was raised with the old meme of the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach so it was very fun to see that idea in play. I adore all of your books and always look forward to whatever you publish next. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

My favorite character is Claire and this is for many reasons. Her can-do attitude and more importantly when faced with all kinds of obstacles she just finally says oh what the heck and goes for it! The dahlias, representing color, are my favorite character. I know they don’t have emotions or intellect. Claire was great. But the differences between the worlds were so clearly delineated by the colors, especially the flowers. It made the story richer.

Marion Tuexen says
My favourite character in the Kinsmen Universe is Claire from ‘Silver Shark’, because she is a survivor with a great inner strength.
Despite her dreary upbringing, war, separation… – she has managed to preserve an empathic and loyal heart… and she stays true to herself, even when faced again by life threatening situations in her new and hard rebuilt life.
Hallo und liebe Gruesse from Germany 🙂

Deirdre in A mere formaluty- absolutely brilliant how she is always one step ahead and holds her own in those negotiations. The picture of a whole bunch of people sitting in a room to go over that lengthy list always has me laughing!

For me, the greatest , coolest, kick ass and still womanly in her actions is Meli Galdes in Silen Blade.
She can even cook and bake ..man, that’s awesome!
Imagine an ultra modern woman assasin that can kill with efficiency bordering to godliness?. Then at the drop of the hat..err..blade, she will bake you tongue dropping goodies! She’s my heroine!!!!
