We have maps for you.
Wilmington Area Map
Why didn’t the tribute people die once they left Penderton? Because the illness takes 48 hours to show up and they only had to travel 40 miles to the fort. Even with Post-Shift troubles, this is a half-a day trip at worst.
Wilmington Order and Farm
Kate’s Journey to Emerald Wave
Preorder links
PREORDER FROM ONE OF THESE FINE RETAILERS:
These buttons are not decorative. These are links that go to the retailers. I personally code these links in “by hand”, and then Mod R checks them to make sure they go to the right place.
If your retailer isn’t listed, you can always search your retailer for the book’s title. When the book is first uploaded for preorder it takes retailers anywhere from a few hours to a couple of days to link it to the author’s other titles and to make it searchable.
Bri says
Well- glad you aren’t linking us to porn. I’m very excited!! Thank you
Moderator R says
The Kobo preorder is already up ???? https://www.kobo.com/us/en/ebook/magic-claims since a lot of people have asked previously.

Already ordered : ) thank you

Love the knitted heart, Mod R. Sweet nod to Valentine’s day.
Moderator R says
???? I try.
Lenore says
Love maps!!
Thank you
laj says
My uncle lives in Wrightsville Beach and he sent me about the same map info when I told him about Kate’s journey in MT. He is elderly and loves his home area and thought it was a smart idea for Kate and Curran to move from Atlanta. He had never heard of them or the books until I asked about the area, now he’s all in on what’s next geographically.
Once again thanks a million times for the new beginning. MT was terrific!
Naenae says
Wow, you partnered with Google to show this…that’s awesome! All joking aside, thanks for giving us more perspective on where what is.

Just read excerpt and now have to wait 4 months ????
Roger says
Like an appetizer, then waiting four months for dinner????
Love I.A. Writing. Definitely worth waiting for
Mar says
Thank you for the maps. Love them! Like the additional info.
Hmmm Holy Shelter Game Land Preserve. Interesting name.
Ruth says
*sigh* *blush* Thought this was in Wilmington, DE as I read. “Yay! There will be a day trip to Baltimore, my hometown.”
After catching a case of reality on the blog posts, I just feel silly *giggle*
BaltoBookLover says
Me, too, Ruth! (I’m in Baltimore, and I was like, “YAY — Kate and Curran are up here now. Sweet!!” Never occurred to me there was another Wilmington, duh…)
Oona says
They won’t take me to porn? LOL. Sorry that’s just such a good one. I’m filing it for future use 🙂 I know nothing about Skyrim, but to cheer me up, a friend sent me this guy acting it out. Now, I am dying laughing. Is it me, or could he be a voice actor? Dunno, its just pretty funny the Bearded Bard does Grothnar….I may have to look up Skyrim. While I’m at it.. he’s in this music collab Misty Mountains done in deep Bass. All that yummy good deep Bass sound… Here it will give you eargasams… Wellermen and friends perform Misty Mountains from Lord of the Rings….. Bobby Waters arranged it and hit it out of the park
I never know if anyone goes to any links posted, but this is REALLY GOOD.
(if you like Bass voices)….https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1Vkh1Iy5IA
Karla says
Loved your link. I follow Weller men on Facebook but didn’t know they were on U-Tube. Thanks.
M. says
If you’re on the hunt for eargasms, then you probably know of The Bass Gang already, as well as Voiceplay’s Geoff Castellucci . Geoff does also short readings on his youtube channel – talk about velvet voices!
Kelticat says
I do like Geoff, Jeoff, Goff, Jeff, and Dylan.
Gaëlle from France says
Thank you !! The maps were personnaly very much needed !! So much clearer with it !!!
Judy Schultheis says
I was on the phone with my BDH friend from a couple miles away and she had seen this – I was last looking at the sight several hours back, so I was able to tell her she could preorder the next one already.
I do keep telling people that reading is a cheap addiction. I think I’m going to have to start sticking a ‘relatively’ in there to modify ‘cheap’.
Judy Schultheis says
Aargh. ‘Site’, not ‘sight’.
KarenM says
The recommend to your public library is a wonderful resource for the financial or space challenged individuals.
If you use the library for frequent re-reads the books stay in the collection longer. More time to share the joy with others.
Donna A says
Cheap!?! Have you seen my TBR mountain? And it’s still growing. Not to mention non-fiction. . .I think they charge you by the page with extra per diagram.
mz says
Razing the Mountains is the reason for the Kindle App on the iPad.
Barbara Erwin says
Judy, I just figure books are more fun and cheaper than a psychiatrist!
Claudia says
Yay, maps and answers! Thank you 🙂
BelleBok says
Yaay! Maps! Love maps!!
Thank you.
Bill G says
“Well, since the link didn’t take me to porn, I went ahead and pre-ordered the book.”
Chortle
That’s what my mind came up with after reading the notice insisting the links were really to the stores.
Nicole says
If anyone else is wondering the Amazon link for Australia is still not available.

I just pre-ordered after searching “Ilona Andrews Magic Claims”. Many unrelated sponsored (by Amazon) books showed up before I saw what I was looking for. I hope the link helps.
Nicole says
Thanks. I tried the direct link opening in the app and searching a few hours ago but it just said not available for preorder. Let the countdown begin
Sakinah says
When are Magic Tides and Magic Claims taking place? From contextual references, I thought about 6 years after battle of Atlanta, but wanted to be sure. So excited.
Also, love this glimpse of the KD world. I do miss Julie and Derek though, and hope to catch up with them soon someday!
Moderator R says
Hey Sakinah,
You were very close ????, it’s about 7 years after Magic Triumphs and 2 years before Blood Heir!
Mary says
Thank you thank you thank you thank you!!! Is that an actual Wilmington building, the order is in? Thank you thank you thank you! Hope you have a great weekend.
Ilona says
Yes. 🙂 Corner of 5th and Castle.
Mary Beth says
I sent my Hubby the link for the new Wilmington chapter. He quit after Erra gave the dog a pillow and blanket.
“NO. I have to read the whole book from here! AAAAAAH!”
He has a super soft spot for animals. We’re both looking forward to the new novella.
I’ll make sure he sees these maps. He tells me I don’t have to dig this deep for my research for my own work, this proves YES, yes I do.
Thank you.
Diane says
I love maps and visual aids. Especially the little kraken graphic. ❤️
SoCoMom says
+1
I love maps too and the krakicon is rather cute. Thank you for including so many maps – it helps this West Coast fan visualize where the action is taking place. And now I am off to look up the Order building …
Omar Mtz says
Thank you!!! sometimes for distance and travel I need visual references. I’m bad at imagining distance.
Yvette says
LOL! Thanks for the maps. I’ve spent a bit of time today finding, I-40, Cape Fear River, Wilmington, and Pender County on maps. But for some reason, even thought you clearly said the land offered to Curren and Kate was a bit north and west of Penderton, I looked ‘east’ instead. LOL! What a D’oh moment. 🙂
This first chapter reads like a full novel rather than a novella. At least, one can hope. I can’t wait to discover which of the Atlanta pack members will migrate to North Carolina.
sarafina says
Are they keeping Fort Kure also? Because that’s in such a cool location!! Also, where will Conlan go to school?
sarafina says
Oh most important!! When will the baby girl come??
Moderator R says
Kate and Curran’s daughter is in the future of Blood Heir ????
The Wilmington Years happen a couple of years before Blood Heir.
Ina says
Do we know if all the books in Wilmington Years will happen before Blood Heir?
sarafina says
Great, thanks!!
Ronda says
I’m a little late to the party but where can I find a mention of Kate’s daughter?? I can’t believe I somehow missed that!
Moderator R says
Sienna the Witch Oracle shows Julie a future in which Kate holds her toddler daughter at the end of Blood Heir ???? https://ilona-andrews.com/ryder/
Kat in NJ says
Wait a sec, I missed something: when did we find out Kate and Curran will have a baby girl in the future?
I really need to read slower, get new glasses, or start taking some sort of supplement to improve my memory…probably all three! ????
Btw,I immediately preordered Magic Claims on Friday. The excerpt was amazing and I can hardly wait until June! (No pressure though HA. When you are happy writing instead of stressed, it makes the BDH happy too!)
Kat in NJ says
Oooops, sorry Mod R: I sent my comment asking how we knew about the baby before I saw you already answered…Thank you! ☺️
Moderator R says
I answered above, Sienna shows Julie a vision of the future with Kate cuddling a baby girl at the end of Blood Heir ????
“She smiled, picked up a small blond toddler, and set the child on her hip. The toddler looked at me through the curtain of time, her big brown eyes bright on her tiny face. Goosebumps broke out on my skin. “This is your sister,” Sienna said softly. “This vision exists because yesterday you brought Moloch up short.””
Andrews, Ilona. Blood Heir, Aurelia Ryder 1. NYLA 2020. Kindle edition, page 327
Gaëlle from France says
I love the fact that Conlan has his mother’s dark hair and his father’s grey eyes, and the baby girl will have her father’s blond hair and her mother’s brown eyes.
Claire says
???? Thank you for the maps! I actually tried to figure out the locations and routes Kate took in Magic Tides as I was reading it. It’s awesome to see it laid out here. Google maps is my frequent friend when reading books based in the ‘real’ world. It helps me visual the world of the characters better.
Kaleigha says
I have happily preordered! And weirdly enough (going to show my geekdom here), I was Google Mapping this today. Made me laugh when I saw this post tonight! Thanks.
Alice says
It was listed as the #1 seller in paranormal vampire romance when I preordered on Amazon ????
Theresa says
I noticed that too and sent a comment to Amazon about they needed to refine the algorithm or, here’s a thought, hire some real people
Nancy says
Now Amazon says #1 in romantic fantasy.
Patricia Schlorke says
I could see with the Innkeeper series, but Kate?! Amazon’s algorithm is goofy if it puts Kate with paranormal vampire romance, unless the People aren’t telling us something. 😉
This is what happens when people let the algorithm go without keeping an eye on it.
Liv W says
Yippee! I love maps; thank you! Really looking forward to Book 2 of the Wilmington Years. On a separate note, I, too, am curious about what happens with Fort Kure and Conlan’s schooling should the Daniels make a permanent move their new forest tract.
Jelena says
I’m re-reading Sweep of the heart and wanted to ask a question regarding the source of one of the philosophies mentioned in the book- Tessidect’s principle (the one about love). Did the authors invent it, or is it rooted in some real-life philosophy? I like it very much and would like to explore the concept a bit more if it exists.
If this is not the appropriate place to post this question, my apologies to Mod R and HA. Love everything you do.
Rachel says
I was very confused by that paranoid commenter yesterday, so thank you for the update that you’re not going to be directing us to porn (instead of giving people the opportunity to one click and preorder, lol)
Erika says
I dont know, clicking on porn referenced by HA could be fun. 😉
Thanks for the pics. I had looked up all of the buildings mentioned in the Hidden Legacy books for fun but didn’t realize the buildings in MT were real too.
Bonnie says
I think I must have missed something. If Blood Heir is two years after Wilmington book what is Conlan doing in Atlanta when Julie rides into town if they are living in North Carolina?
Moderator R says
“Now Kate had moved on, to the coast near Wilmington, coming to Atlanta only for the summer, and without her the city had fractured again.“
Andrews, Ilona. Blood Heir, Aurelia Ryder 1. NYLA, 2020. Kindle edition, page 17
Jessy says
Oh, i am soo excited for the new wilmington book(s). Thanks for the maps to clarify. I find them pretty helpfull, especially as an non-american, who isn’t great in american geography.
I have a question tough. If the wilmington books take place 2 years before blood heir and the last flare is 5 years ago, does it mean, that we can expect a new flare in blood heir 2? Uiii, flares are such a wild ride. I love the second kd book #teambran
Maybe there is a meeting with Julie and Red? And will there be more informations about the last flare? I mean the one 5 years ago.
Sivi says
ohhh, I think I’ve missed a link for a first chapter somewhere for the July book as I don’t think I’ve come across it us on the blogs I was catching up on… off to adventure between the Web pages…????????????
Moderator R says
The excerpt is in the previous ???? post https://ilona-andrews.com/2023/happy-friday/ and the book release in June! Slightly earlier ????, which is always better heheh.
Elenariel says
I love maps, thanks!
I was able to preorder from Kobo as well, the other day ✌????
Debi Majo says

Thank you ModR!
Lulinke says
I love having this! I didn’t look up Kate’s journey but did look up the locations of the states and main cities – I am not great at visual spatial stuff so this helps a lot.
Jennifer Morris says
Wow! I have so enjoyed looking at the maps, they enrich my visualization of the story. Thank you so much (and keep up the sneakiness, it is delightful to have TWO (!) unexpected journeys).
Nancy says
Yes. None of your links ever take me anywhere than where they are supposed to go. They can be trusted implicitly. Also, thank you for the preorder links and the maps. It’s good to have that picture in my head.
AP says
Thanks so much for the maps – they really help with my visualization of the book!
Love the kraken! ????
Anne - Books of My Heart says
Already pre- ordered. We live about two hours from Wilmington so we know these areas and it is fun to see the maps.

Preorder done. Now in about a month or so I’ll probably try and re-preorder

Breann says
Every single time the link is posted, I click it. Just to double check. Even though I KNOW I already pre-ordered it. ????

I looove Maps!
(preordered, of course!)
And back to the Kate-verse from the Inn-verse.
Who knows what Verse will become my renewed favourite next? Meanwhile, I will wallow in the Kate-verse for a while.
Thx muchly

Yes!!!! White Lake is a beautiful place ! Or did Bladen Lakes make one big lake? ???? so excited!
Kate says
I gather that this is not the Wilmington in Delaware. I was very confused for a while; I live about 60 miles from Wilmington, Delaware and the other is off my radar.
njb says
Whoop! Thanks for the maps! always nice to see where things are in relation to each other.
Ok that’s funny! Did someone make a sarcastic comment about the links?!
njb says
Reading the comments today and yesterday, so many seem to be worried about Kate and Curran instantly leaving their new home. You know, I doubt they’re planning on it, given there’s currently nothing out there in the forest. A new keep will be a long term project and right now it’s not even needed.
Brightfae says
I have thinking about that too. I bet Curran has a “dream castle” that he’s been building in his head for a while. He’s never gotten to start from scratch and build completely his own, right? Will it be a castle, compound, some combo? Will he consult with Hugh on the moat? Where’s the labor going to come from?
All yummy stuff to think about until June (or at least until the next snip)!
Tom says
Thank you for the Maps – now we just need someone from the BDH to post that they live in the Orders building or similar!
Moderator R says
No private residence is used/made recognisable in the books without permission ????
Breann says
But I bet if you asked a BDH member if it could be used, most would say yes! Although, I completely understand saying no, for privacy reasons. ????
Dianba says
Love this! I Just read the book this weekend and I have to admit I Google up a map on my own. This is so much better!
Thank you for a wild night with old friends (and some new ones.)
Delilah says
Ordered! And read the first chapter at least 5 times. So happy!

Hooray maps! Thank you for the clarifications.

Yes, maps! Maps are great. I just copied them and put them in the notes area of my iPad for future reference. Yay!

I’ve just started rereading Magic Tides and here’s your post with perfect timing. Love the ‘damn it, damn it, damn it’ marked on the map! LOL
Christina says

Julene says
Ooh, I love me some maps of stuff. Awesome!
Well, Magic Claims is not yet up for pre-order on Canadian Amazon. All I get for my search is clams…..magic clams????
Oh well, it’ll be there eventually. 🙂
Moderator R says
Hi Julene,
Yes it is, here is the link ???? https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0BVGK9FBP
Julene says
Thank you!
Melisande says
I couldn’t resist…would they be evil magic clams?
(too many cartoons with the kids lately, since I have visions of clams with their shells tilted menacingly over their little clammy eyeballs)
KL says
Love the maps, thank you! [ hope they will be included in the book.
Susan Dillaman says
Ha! As if I couldn’t love Kate and Curran more…they have moved to my hometown!! My mom lives just past the Food Lion on Kate’s journey to Emerald Wave. Never thought I would be reading about Burgaw in an IA book or recognizing favorite places where I grew up!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you for adding yet another reason I adore your writing!
Alison says
is it better for us to order via these links? Amazon UK isn’t listed above. I can wait for a link from here but if it doesn’t make a difference I’ll just go direct.
Moderator R says
Hi Alison,
Please visit the Amazon page relating to your country- as you can appreciate, linking every single one is impossible ????
Li0ness says
I grew up in Sneads Ferry so Wilmington was a frequent day trip for us and reading the first one I kept doing the thing where I point and go “I KNOW THAT PLACE!” while I was reading.
Cymru Llewes says
(I haven’t thought about Sneads Ferry in years) I was born in Ahoskie (I grew up in Bertie County).
I’m sort of waiting on the mention of (Little) Washington and Snow Hill.
I’ve got cousins who live in Bath and Duck.
Noreen says
I’m wondering why the Atlanta pack is faring badly? Curran stated in a previous book that Jim is a better Beast Lord than him.
Thanks!
Moderator R says
Hi Noreen,
Magic Tides and Blood Heir provide a bit more information and more will become obvious as the books get published ????. In very bare strokes, Jim has over-delegated and the Pack has grown too much.
Noreen says
Thank you!
Kat M says
Also, Jim is kind of a neurotic jerk. He’s brilliant, but it’s hard to be an effective leader when you’re an a-hole.
Noreen says
Thanks!
Alison says
Thank you for the maps!
Linda Trainor says
thank you ???? it’s my birthday ????????????????. so it’s like a present ???? for me yay.
KarenM says
Can we have a map showing where Conlan’s school is located?
I’m also one of the old school that relies on maps to figure out locations even for modern travel. Too many Oops with the GPS.
Thank you for the pleasure of sharing with like minded people.
Keera says
Just tandom thought. What would happen to the military bases before the shift. We lived at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville NC for 5 years and left last year. We visited Wilmington and Myrtle Beach a lot. Really appreciate the Food Lion on the map. I miss them.
Colleen C. says
I really appreciate the maps, thank you!
Carol says
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I have a thing for maps, and these are great maps. They really amplify my understanding of the story. Yay maps!

Kat M says
“These links will not ‘take you to porn.'”
…it’s honestly upsetting that the author has to specify this on her own blog.
People are freaking weird.
Cecilia says
Pre-order. Done. I am so delighted to know there is another Kate and Curran story coming on our way!
pyrokar says
My gosh, it *is* porn. Book-porn 😉
Laura says
Wow… I’m very curious what led to those disclaimers! ????
Love the maps!
Amelie says
I definitely was googling around Wilmington to visualize the story better so these maps are much appreciated!
Thanks for the kraken/giant squid graphic haha. Were krakens supposed to be giant mythical octopuses or squids (both?)? I know the legends started because people theorize sailors back in the day spotted giant squids on a very rare basis and they unsurprisingly became sea monsters of lore. The first one was recorded off the coast of Japan on video in 2012 (it took that long, they are so elusive!), I remember because it was such a huge story. We knew they existed because they were found in the bellies of dead whales but no one had seen a live one in a long time (that we know of).
Caroline says
Maps are wonderful things. Thank you – this really helps me.
Stacy Harper Watson says
So excited!! Bought my copy.
NSum says
I Love Maps. Thank you.
Is that a Kraken?
Moderator R says
Yes ????
Robyn A. says
Thanks so much for the maps! Live in Pacific Northwest and have no familiarity with the area so the maps really help!
I always use your book ordering links!
Have a great day!
Robyn A. says
Also we are devoted fans of Kraken out here (Seattle Krakens Hockey team! ????)!
Patricia Schlorke says
When I found out that Seattle had gotten a hockey team named the Kraken, I laughed and shook my head. I’m a St. Louis Blues fan from living in St. Louis so many years ago. 🙂
Kathryn says
My father grew up in Burgaw and I still have cousins and an aunt who live there! So I am SO EXCITED the Pack will be moving there. If you need any historical information about Burgaw, said Cousin and his wife were librarians for Pender County and Pender High School and helped found the Historical Society and I hereby volunteer their help! My grandaddy was an early mayor for Burgaw when they first paved the roads and his dental office was right off the courthouse square. It would have survived the shift for sure — red brick two-story square building (now used by a bail bondsman!). YAY FOR BURGAW!!
mdy says
Whoa. I was just thinking the other day that it would be cool if there were maps and now they’re here! #mindblown Thank you!
Marsha says
Now that you are self publishing how will books get to libraries?
Moderator R says
House Andrews have self-published books for 10 years ????, it is not a new venture. The difference is that at the moment they are doing self-publishing exclusively, instead of being hybrid authors. The Innkeeper Chronicles, Blood Heir, Iron and Magic- have all been self published and made it onto library shelves ????.
Libraries don’t exclusively purchase books from publishers, so being a traditional author is not a mandatory condition. They buy books from wholesalers, like Ingram Sparks, which is one of the platforms House Andrews use for printing and distribution (if you wish to read more about the model, here is a link https://www.ingramspark.com/blog/book-distribution-with-ingramspark). Once the ISBN number is known, libraries and indie bookstores etc can order directly from them.
Being a self-published author does not mean being a self-printer, distributor or vendor (unless, of course, someone wants to ????). It is my understanding -but librarian friends can set me right ofc- that libraries are also open to books the self-published authors offer directly, especially those of local/regional interest.
M says
For Claims/Tides, will they be sold as two separate audiobooks or sold as one audiobook listing? I saw the post about the narrator recording both at the same time, but couldn’t tell if the novellas would be sold in the same Audible listing.
Wendy says
Thank you for the maps! Sp helpful
Stacy says
Every glimpse we get into New Shinar is like BRAIN CANDY. More more more more Erra, please!
K.C. says
This is great! I love that you are bringing Kate and the family/pack back. It’s like when friends you love and miss move back into your neighborhood. Gleeful anticipation of adventures and shenanigans.
Ray says
Thank you for the Wilmington story maps. I refer to the Atlanta map in Magic Breaks to help refresh my memory and visualize the story whenever I read a KD book. If there are any Houston maps similar to the Atlanta map that can be shared, it would also be very appreciated.
Liora says
As a geographer, I approve of including maps SO HARD.
EarlineM says
Fun maps! My kids live in Hampstead, and I know just where the cruise ship would be! They love it there. Have a house on a tidal creek, with a dock, a boat, and 3 boys who are living the life. Between Houston, where I live, and Wilmington, I love matching your places to the reality that is. Lots of fun!
Len says
I wonder if this is a novella level fight, or across several books/novellas fight?
It’s an “old power” after all.
Ugggh, 4 month wait.
Barb says
Thank you for the maps, it helps visualize the area and the future problems to come in the story. Plus the time lines, being on a peninsula limits how you are getting off and can defend or be trapped.
Manta says
Can these new KD books in Wilmington be read without reading the whole series? This post is to blame. I opened the E-mail and looked at the map first. It took a minute to figure out why Fort Fisher is labeled wrong. Now I’m wondering what reading a House Andrews book that takes place in an area I’m familiar with is like.
Ilona says
You probably could. You will miss some inside jokes but it should make sense. 🙂
Moderator R says
It’s a new setting and a new cast of characters (except the protagonists), and the worldbuild is nicely recapped, I agree with Ilona that they stand on their own! ????
If you want a quick primer of what happened before, there’s a KD summary post here https://ilona-andrews.com/2023/from-bites-to-triumphs/

Happy Day! Pre-ordered????

I lived in the Wilmington area for more than 30 years. It’s a hoot reading about the area from a post-shift perspective. There are lots of trees, swamps, mosquitoes, and alligators right now. Speaking of trees: some are currently more than 1000 years old (https://www.nature.org/en-us/get-involved/how-to-help/places-we-protect/black-river-preserve/). I look forward to reading more about their forest.
Heather says
I could go for an illustrated book of maps. All sorts of maps. Maps of Atlanta, maps of the Gertrude Hunt, maps of Roland’s progress. Maps of the galaxy and territory held by different parties, maps of unicorn lane and the the People’s or witch’s or Pack’s territory (or all of the above. I’m obsessed with maps.)
