Why didn’t the tribute people die once they left Penderton? Because the illness takes 48 hours to show up and they only had to travel 40 miles to the fort. Even with Post-Shift troubles, this is a half-a day trip at worst.

  4. My uncle lives in Wrightsville Beach and he sent me about the same map info when I told him about Kate’s journey in MT. He is elderly and loves his home area and thought it was a smart idea for Kate and Curran to move from Atlanta. He had never heard of them or the books until I asked about the area, now he’s all in on what’s next geographically.
    Once again thanks a million times for the new beginning. MT was terrific!

  9. They won’t take me to porn? LOL. Sorry that’s just such a good one. I’m filing it for future use 🙂 I know nothing about Skyrim, but to cheer me up, a friend sent me this guy acting it out. Now, I am dying laughing. Is it me, or could he be a voice actor? Dunno, its just pretty funny the Bearded Bard does Grothnar….I may have to look up Skyrim. While I’m at it.. he’s in this music collab Misty Mountains done in deep Bass.   11. I was on the phone with my BDH friend from a couple miles away and she had seen this – I was last looking at the sight several hours back, so I was able to tell her she could preorder the next one already.

    I do keep telling people that reading is a cheap addiction. I think I’m going to have to start sticking a ‘relatively’ in there to modify ‘cheap’.

      • The recommend to your public library is a wonderful resource for the financial or space challenged individuals.
        If you use the library for frequent re-reads the books stay in the collection longer. More time to share the joy with others.

    • Cheap!?! Have you seen my TBR mountain? And it’s still growing. Not to mention non-fiction. . .I think they charge you by the page with extra per diagram.

  16. When are Magic Tides and Magic Claims taking place?From contextual references, I thought about 6 years after battle of Atlanta, but wanted to be sure. So excited.

    Also, love this glimpse of the KD world. I do miss Julie and Derek though, and hope to catch up with them soon someday!

  18. I sent my Hubby the link for the new Wilmington chapter. He quit after Erra gave the dog a pillow and blanket.

    “NO. I have to read the whole book from here! AAAAAAH!”

    He has a super soft spot for animals. We’re both looking forward to the new novella.

    I’ll make sure he sees these maps. He tells me I don’t have to dig this deep for my research for my own work, this proves YES, yes I do.

  21. LOL! Thanks for the maps. I’ve spent a bit of time today finding, I-40, Cape Fear River, Wilmington, and Pender County on maps. But for some reason, even thought you clearly said the land offered to Curren and Kate was a bit north and west of Penderton, I looked ‘east’ instead. LOL! What a D’oh moment. 🙂

    This first chapter reads like a full novel rather than a novella. At least, one can hope. I can’t wait to discover which of the Atlanta pack members will migrate to North Carolina.

      The Wilmington Years happen a couple of years before Blood Heir.

        I really need to read slower, get new glasses, or start taking some sort of supplement to improve my memory…probably all three! ????

        Btw,I immediately preordered Magic Claims on Friday. The excerpt was amazing and I can hardly wait until June! (No pressure though HA. When you are happy writing instead of stressed, it makes the BDH happy too!)

  24. ???? Thank you for the maps! I actually tried to figure out the locations and routes Kate took in Magic Tides as I was reading it. It’s awesome to see it laid out here. Google maps is my frequent friend when reading books based in the ‘real’ world. It helps me visual the world of the characters better.

    • I could see with the Innkeeper series, but Kate?! Amazon’s algorithm is goofy if it puts Kate with paranormal vampire romance, unless the People aren’t telling us something. 😉

      This is what happens when people let the algorithm go without keeping an eye on it.

  28. I’m re-reading Sweep of the heart and wanted to ask a question regarding the source of one of the philosophies mentioned in the book- Tessidect’s principle (the one about love). Did the authors invent it, or is it rooted in some real-life philosophy? I like it very much and would like to explore the concept a bit more if it exists.
    If this is not the appropriate place to post this question, my apologies to Mod R and HA. Love everything you do.

  32. Oh, i am soo excited for the new wilmington book(s). Thanks for the maps to clarify. I find them pretty helpfull, especially as an non-american, who isn’t great in american geography.
    I have a question tough. If the wilmington books take place 2 years before blood heir and the last flare is 5 years ago, does it mean, that we can expect a new flare in blood heir 2? Uiii, flares are such a wild ride. I love the second kd book #teambran
    Maybe there is a meeting with Julie and Red? And will there be more informations about the last flare? I mean the one 5 years ago.

  40. I love having this! I didn’t look up Kate’s journey but did look up the locations of the states and main cities – I am not great at visual spatial stuff so this helps a lot.

    • Reading the comments today and yesterday, so many seem to be worried about Kate and Curran instantly leaving their new home. You know, I doubt they’re planning on it, given there’s currently nothing out there in the forest. A new keep will be a long term project and right now it’s not even needed.

      • I have thinking about that too. I bet Curran has a “dream castle” that he’s been building in his head for a while. He’s never gotten to start from scratch and build completely his own, right? Will it be a castle, compound, some combo? Will he consult with Hugh on the moat? Where’s the labor going to come from?

        All yummy stuff to think about until June (or at least until the next snip)!

  63. I grew up in Sneads Ferry so Wilmington was a frequent day trip for us and reading the first one I kept doing the thing where I point and go “I KNOW THAT PLACE!” while I was reading.

    • (I haven’t thought about Sneads Ferry in years) I was born in Ahoskie (I grew up in Bertie County).

      I’m sort of waiting on the mention of (Little) Washington and Snow Hill.

      I’ve got cousins who live in Bath and Duck.

  68. Just tandom thought. What would happen to the military bases before the shift. We lived at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville NC for 5 years and left last year. We visited Wilmington and Myrtle Beach a lot. Really appreciate the Food Lion on the map. I miss them.

    Thanks for the kraken/giant squid graphic haha. Were krakens supposed to be giant mythical octopuses or squids (both?)? I know the legends started because people theorize sailors back in the day spotted giant squids on a very rare basis and they unsurprisingly became sea monsters of lore. The first one was recorded off the coast of Japan on video in 2012 (it took that long, they are so elusive!), I remember because it was such a huge story. We knew they existed because they were found in the bellies of dead whales but no one had seen a live one in a long time (that we know of).

  82. My father grew up in Burgaw and I still have cousins and an aunt who live there! So I am SO EXCITED the Pack will be moving there. If you need any historical information about Burgaw, said Cousin and his wife were librarians for Pender County and Pender High School and helped found the Historical Society and I hereby volunteer their help! My grandaddy was an early mayor for Burgaw when they first paved the roads and his dental office was right off the courthouse square. It would have survived the shift for sure — red brick two-story square building (now used by a bail bondsman!). YAY FOR BURGAW!!

    • House Andrews have self-published books for 10 years ????, it is not a new venture. The difference is that at the moment they are doing self-publishing exclusively, instead of being hybrid authors. The Innkeeper Chronicles, Blood Heir, Iron and Magic- have all been self published and made it onto library shelves ????.

      Libraries don’t exclusively purchase books from publishers, so being a traditional author is not a mandatory condition. They buy books from wholesalers, like Ingram Sparks, which is one of the platforms House Andrews use for printing and distribution (if you wish to read more about the model, here is a link https://www.ingramspark.com/blog/book-distribution-with-ingramspark). Once the ISBN number is known, libraries and indie bookstores etc can order directly from them.

      Being a self-published author does not mean being a self-printer, distributor or vendor (unless, of course, someone wants to ????). It is my understanding -but librarian friends can set me right ofc- that libraries are also open to books the self-published authors offer directly, especially those of local/regional interest.

  85. For Claims/Tides, will they be sold as two separate audiobooks or sold as one audiobook listing? I saw the post about the narrator recording both at the same time, but couldn’t tell if the novellas would be sold in the same Audible listing.

  89. Thank you for the Wilmington story maps. I refer to the Atlanta map in Magic Breaks to help refresh my memory and visualize the story whenever I read a KD book. If there are any Houston maps similar to the Atlanta map that can be shared, it would also be very appreciated.

  91. Fun maps! My kids live in Hampstead, and I know just where the cruise ship would be! They love it there. Have a house on a tidal creek, with a dock, a boat, and 3 boys who are living the life. Between Houston, where I live, and Wilmington, I love matching your places to the reality that is. Lots of fun!

  93. Thank you for the maps, it helps visualize the area and the future problems to come in the story. Plus the time lines, being on a peninsula limits how you are getting off and can defend or be trapped.

  94. Can these new KD books in Wilmington be read without reading the whole series? This post is to blame. I opened the E-mail and looked at the map first. It took a minute to figure out why Fort Fisher is labeled wrong. Now I’m wondering what reading a House Andrews book that takes place in an area I’m familiar with is like.

  97. I could go for an illustrated book of maps. All sorts of maps. Maps of Atlanta, maps of the Gertrude Hunt, maps of Roland’s progress. Maps of the galaxy and territory held by different parties, maps of unicorn lane and the the People’s or witch’s or Pack’s territory (or all of the above. I’m obsessed with maps.)
