The first draft of the Inheritance is officially finished.
It’s the same size as Magic Claims. Some novella it turned out to be. Oy. This was so not the plan when we started.
Preorders and Availability
The Inheritance has gone to the developmental edit, and then it will go to the copyedit. We aiming for tail end of July for the release date but please don’t hold us to it. The cover is done. It was painted by Candice Slater with typography by Natanya Wheeler, and it is beautiful. We will reveal it when we’ll have the preorder up. We anticipate the preorder period to be very short, only a couple of weeks, unless something drastically changes. We may skip it altogether, depending on where we are in the online serial.
The audiobook: we are signing contracts as we speak. The audio will be recorded this month; however, it will take a few weeks for it to be uploaded. We will keep you posted. There may also be slight delay in print, just because that process takes longer.
Candice’s beautiful artwork will be included in the ebook and print versions. It will be black and white in print and will show up as black and white if you are using an actual Kindle. If you are reading on your phone or other tablets that display color, the artwork will show up in full color.
Here is a sample of what it will look like. The text doesn’t match because we just took a random chapter and stuffed a bunch of images into it to test things.

Remaining Installments
People are asking how many installments are left. 7. Unless we glue some scenes together.
As always, the story will stop before the big finale, because as much as we love you, we do need to make money, so if you want the final resolution, please support us by purchasing a copy. We hope to have no delay between the last installment and the availability of the entire book.
There will be the scheduled installment on Friday, 4th of July.
Direct Sales
We know that some of you are upset by the recent change to Amazon’s policy that prevents you from saving your books to your own storage devices. We are considering offering digital copies of The Inheritance for sale through Shopify/Bookfunnel in addition to selling it through Amazon, Apple, and other retail channels.
Again, in addition to Amazon, Apple, BN and other options. You will be able to purchase it at your favorite retailer or at our site directly.
If we decide to offer direct downloads, this would mean that you can buy the book from us and add it to your favorite reading app or Kindle library. A lot of indie authors successfully use this distribution model. I actually just bought Tears of the Wolf from Elisabeth Wheatley’s site.
Update: NVM about the cover note that was here. It actually does show up properly after the file is opened.
We know that some of you will want to know which option will give us more money. We’re not going to tell you. Please buy in the format most convenient to you. We want the purchasing process to be as smooth as possible for you.
We will get our money either way. We only ask that you don’t pirate.
Finally
Finally, a very important announcement.
The cover of THIS KINGDOM WILL NOT KILL ME will be revealed early next week. It is truly a beautiful cover. So please check the blog on Tuesday around 11:00 am EST for the link.
And that concludes this week’s admin post. Pheew.
Great news! Can’t wait!
I have an unrelated question and I couldn’t figure out where to ask so I’ll ask it here- what yarn did you end up choosing?
Atlantic DK, at the recommendation of most of the BDH and the owner of Terrapin herself 🙂
And speaking of the BDH, I sure hope no one else was planning on buying that Coastlines collection, because it was mysteriously exhausted on the same day that blog article got almost 400 comments 😀 A case for the Scooby Doo gang, for sure.
I would not be surprised if there were ferrets involved with the yarn binge buy. 😀
Hopefully the owner was pleasantly surprised by the sellout.
Haha! My wife was one of those, I saw a charge for Terrapin a day or two after the post and thought it sounded familiar! (She is also card carrying member of the BDH, (well actually mug carrying member 😜))
😉 You saw nothing!
Thanks for the update, I was wondering if there would be an installment on the Fourth
I’ve actually not read any of inheritance, life is too busy! I’ll be looking forward to book version 🙂
This is surprisingly my first time following an author’s blog or SM. I’m questioning my entire existence now. How did I not know this type of excitement and titillation existed before?? I’m all in. When it feels like the world could actually be crumbling around us I love sliding into place where hero’s are born or already exist. Thank you🥲
So glad you joined the party! 😀
Reading and rereading the books is a fabulous experience ofc, but the community and Horde contributions for each serial chapter is one of my very favorite things <3
Welcome to the BDH. I started following this blog bc I didn’t know anyone else who read these books. It is wonderful to become involved with others who love them and, best of all, to talk with others about the books and the characters. This blog is one of the best bc although we are all nice people, sometimes things go a little off and then we have Magister ModR to whip us back into shape.
Also, the AuthorLords sometimes shake their sticks at us and none of us want any ripper cushions! (Imagine that; the Writers of Wonderful Words actually speak directly to us mere readers!)
Me too. The only blog I follow. I mostly lurk. But still feel the company of others who appreciate escaping to the wonderful worlds of Ilona Andrews.
Welcome Doni!
Mod R is the wrangler of the Book Devouring Horde (BDH). That’s all of us readers commenting on the blog. Mod R can also be the person who will dangle a carrot over our heads but not let us in on the secret until the secret is out on the blog. (I can hear you, Mod R saying, who me?)
As mz says, Ilona and Gordon sometimes have to put their feet down on us. None of us wants that to happen, so we try to be good, chalant, and fluffy. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.
Who, me? 😇
When have I ever been anything else but forthcoming and yeah, ok, I can’t even type that with a straight face lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😜
I also bought Tears of the Wolf this way and the experience was no problem . (Then read on my Kindle app)
the suspense is killing me
THANK YOU for considering other publishing options that allow us to own (download) our purchases! That’s the main reason I buy as much as possible on Google Play instead of Amazon now, despite the extra step it takes to read them on my Kindle.
Lots of exciting news! I’m eagerly awaiting everything!
Thank you, Thank YOU for taking the time to explain it all.
We, the BDH, love you & ask that you please rest a bit now. We are greedy & anxious voracious readers, but our authors sanity & health always come first.
Loving The Inheritance!
As always,
Your BDH
Love the book, will buy and re read more than once, I am sure. And will hope for Book 2? as a serial first and then book. Love all your books, Kate Daniel’s my fave series still. Have read over and over – it gets me through stress, illness, surgeries!
Hi! <3
For the preorder of the print copies for Inheritance, will we be able to get them signed 🙂
*insert grabby hands*
If not no worries though! I'll just be happy to have the book and read it!!!!
Thank you!
Very selfish question, will the merch store be open for the release of Inheritance?
*Cue pterodactyl noises in anticipation of Tuesday*
EXCITEMENT!! I hope to be able to purchase from House Andrews directly in the future.
I also bought Tears of the Wolf and have read it twice. The process was so smooth.
Thank you for your creativity and Mod R for your awesomeness.
I usually buy a copy of each format of HA books, when I can. Though the print versions usually wait due to storage issues. I always buy the kindle and audios though because I read them first in Kindle and then reread in audio as it adds more depth to the story for me.
Congratulations, and wishing you a long, peaceful, happy weekend with goodies on the grill and potato salad and corn on the cob and gorgeous ripe tomatoes and smiling faces around you to celebrate all that creative book goodness coming together. Happy weekend!
Hello
Is there any news on possible special edition of This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me? Such as Fairyloot or Arcane Society or a Waterstone Special Edition. I have the US Hardcover on order, but I could be persuaded to buy a special edition if the artwork is awesome.
I don’t have any official news on that, I’m afraid
How many more installments will there be? Will there be print and audio? Will ModR be able to handle the Horde next Tuesday? JK!!! Thanks so much for the update!
I’m very excited for the release of The Inheritance and to see the cover of TKWNKM. You are so generous with feeding the BDH with goodies until the next book comes out.🥰
Woohoo!! For so many reasons!! 📚
Thank you for all the updates!! 💖
You definitely deserve to be compensated for your hard work and generously sharing the serial installments!
And YAY!!! for the BookFunnel option! I purchase the digital version to support you and the print to accommodate my eyes, which can’t read digital for very long before it blurs and dances. But the Big River licensing model is so awful. Thank you for again considering your readers!
This is awesome, thank you.
Thanks for all the news!
On a side note, I’m sorry but my brain reads Magic CLAMS every single time. I have to pause and reread to actually see Magic Claims 🤣
HaHa 😄 I will buy in every format.
I’m soooo excited and hope Bear had the starring role.😘
Good luck with everything
All good news. Especially Bookfunnel. Yay! Although Google Play works for me as well. As long as I can export to epub, I’m good.
7 chapters plus some glued chapters, makes what? Nineteen more chapters?
Is that with or without the movie?
I’ll still buy it even if they release the whole story free on the blog🤣
Yay!! I’m excited. I’m loving the inheritance, it’s fabulous!!
So many brilliant things. I love it. Thank you to House Andrews for being awesome as always. I’m especially excited about being able to pick up Inheritance THIS MONTH! YAY!
Thank you 🤗
Is the July 2nd date incorrect?
The article was published today, July 3rd.
For some reason, it’s showing the first draft date, but yes, “There will be an installment tomorrow.” refers to Friday, the 4th of July 🙂 , as per schedule.
Yay for non-Kindle option!!! Thank you ☺️
EEEEEEE
I love your novellas, they’re actually ninja novels.
Ninja novels with ninja ferrets! 😀
Is it too early to get a reading of what is the next project up? We get Inheritance say August 2025, Maggie in March of 2026.
One at a time, Horde, one at a time 🙂
Thank you!
Thank you so much for sharing your genius with us. I personally appreciate reading the blog that has excerpts from books. It doesn’t stop me from buying the hard covers or paperbacks because I really love to hold a book when I read it the first second and third time. But I also enjoy having copies in my Kindle library. Looking forward to the release of both books this summer. In the meantime, take care of yourselves and have a peaceful Fourth of July holiday.
Ok, I can wait, but rest assured, I WILL buy it the first chance I get, lol, cause, I’m a BDH addict!
Oh the suspense! ROLL-ON release date… 😊
I buy many different versions of all you all you publish usually because I can’t wait to read or listen to your books. Love your books. I listen in the car and reread so many, many times. Love y’all so much. Thank you so much your genres and worlds.
I’m sorry if this is unsympathetic. But I’m totally delighted by the fact that your unable to make your “pens” stop at the novella word count.
But as a compassionate and loyal follower who has sipped from the cup of chalantness, may I offer a heart felt suggestion to use less defining terms such as current work, serial and project and leave those labels that have limits such as novella and short story out of future dialogue?
(*mutters to the horde* because then we get another story arc that takes 12 umm 20?… books and multiple side stories, to fully flesh out the world 😆❤️)
Thank you for it all.
Excellent, and I love the fact we can purchase direct, I think I will try this!🙂
Thank you and congrats on all the goals! I do buy direct when it is available.
Exciting news! So much good stuff to read! Pictures too! Yay!
Thanks for the incentive! This year it’s one project per month to get all my outside repairs completed. June was fixing the yard after half of it got demolished by the sewer guys; I’m tired of moving dirt and landscaping the result. July is replacing/staining my porch steps and scraping/priming/painting the exterior bottom half of the porch; unfortunately the top half will be all ladder work in August. Thankfully I can do most of the inside without a ladder. Now I need an incentive for the end of August!
I was like “oh! That’s only a couple months out! Will we slow down on the segment…… it’s July!”
Wh… when did that happen?!
Wow 🤯
OMG! You guys get us! I am slowly weaning away from Amazon and other digital sites that state that I am “renting” my books. I’m buying books 📚 so they are mine to reread without the worry that they wont be assessable five years from now.
I have a library of books that I can reread till the pages rot. It’s just too bad that they take up alot of space.
Thank you for some very good news to leaven a very bad day.
Looking forward to purchasing the ebook. Wow, for the audio! Will it be recorded by Graphic Audio? Sorry it it’s been announced previously.
Hey, if there is a gap between the Blog serial and publication, an Innterview hosted by Dina is such a shippable dream! Maybe Roman could host a game of “Who’s Shipping Who?” and offer to plan the wedding for the winners. Heh. Yes, I am re-reading that one.
Anyway, thank you, for everything.
No, it will be the traditional audio book, with 1 or 2 narrators, not full cast, undramatized, no sound effects, no music.
Whenever there is a new book release with an audio format, it will be the traditional audio 🙂. These are the books the authors or their publishers produce.
Graphic Audio are an independent company who aren’t commissioned by the authors. GA decides which books to adapt and they are the ones who pay the authors for the adaptation rights to a text. All business and creative decisions belong to GA (although House Andrews are on very good terms and available for advice and consultation regarding lore, characters, pronunciations etc)
Graphic Audio might be interested in the future to adapt The Inheritance, but we don’t know that yet 🙂
“As always, the story will stop before the big finale, because as much as we love you, we do need to make money, so if you want the final resolution, please support us by purchasing a copy.”
Wait a minute! You mean you guys are actually Professional Authors??? And the creation of this world was partly the result of a desire for Filthy Lucre??? (And any future sequels would partly depend on just how much Filthy Lucre you obtained for this first instalment?)
Well, fine… I will take ebook, hardcopy and audio book versions … as soon as Certain People get the sale links posted…
I buy a lot of ebooks on Kindle because I have a Kindle Fire and it is quick and convenient, but I am not pleased about a certain Big Muddy River’s decision to change my terms of purchase from actual ownership to long-term rental only while the River exists — and to apply that retroactively to every book I have ever bought from it in the past…
I now buy direct from authors whenever I can, store multiple copies of the files on my own multiple backups, and upload one to my Kindle Fire to read there. I bought most of Elizabeth Wheatley’s books that way after you guys introduced me to the Book Goblin. If you do decide to sell directly too, I will buy direct from you instead of using Bezos as a middleman book landlord…
“Wait a minute! You mean you guys are actually Professional Authors??? And the creation of this world was partly the result of a desire for Filthy Lucre??? (And any future sequels would partly depend on just how much Filthy Lucre you obtained for this first instalment?)”
You found us out. 😀
“I am shocked … shocked! I tell you … to discover that there is GAMBLING going on in this establishment!”
“Your winnings, sir”.
“Oh, yes, thank you. Now close it down.”
One of Claude Rains better roles.
I too bought “Tears of the Wolf” directly from Elizabeth Wheatley’s site.
I find purchasing directly from an author, from their site is best. Gives the Author more money, and makes me feel a little better if I end up having to go to Amazon and get a book because I HATE it when my series don’t match up and my Kindle books don’t supply Goodreads with updates.
Oh, Elizabeth Wheatley is going to squee about you saying that you bought her book from her website! She’s a huge fan of HA.
thank you thank you thank you for considering this “We are considering offering digital copies of The Inheritance for sale through Shopify/Bookfunnel in addition to selling it through Amazon, Apple, and other retail channels.
Again, in addition to Amazon, Apple, BN and other options. You will be able to purchase it at your favorite retailer or at our site directly.” I really hope you do go down this route as I do this for other books where I can and its so simple and I’m still supporting my fav authors without supporting the badness of amazon (badness for a number of different reasons).
will keep fingers crossed and eyes pealed to the posts to see if your all so manage this.
thank you
Chiiiiiiiiii! I am trying hard to be nonchalant, but also as a diehard member of the BDH I am very fluff and VERY chalant about this book being published soon. It’s been so good. And you know we’re all hoping for a series from it. . No pressure though. Thank you for sharing all your work with us. It is much beloved.
We are all at that stage where we sit tidily at the table, napkins in our lap, cutlery at the ready.
A casual observer might even miss the fact that we’re vibrating and our eyes are suspiciously dusheguby 🤣
Aah. But is there such a thing as a casual observer on this blog?
Even those of us who mostly lurk are fluffy, chalant and voracious. We are the BDH. There is nothing casual about us once we pull a chair up to the HA table! 😁
