The first dish of Thanksgiving 2017 has been made.
None of us are that fond of cranberry sauce, but other people are and since we usually get friends and family on Thanksgiving, I always make it a couple of days before and stick it in the fridge. This way it’s taken care off and I am not trying to boil orange juice at the last minute and then serve the whole thing burning hot.
Today I have something for everyone.
For Writers
Doris, the artist behind our Innkeeper covers and interior art, has launched a website with premade covers.
So if you need a good quality cover in a hurry, take a look at her inventory.
For Readers
Jessie Mihalik, who recently sold a SF Romance trilogy to Avon and who happens to be my neighbor half-a-mile removed, kicked off her free online serial novella, Queen’s Gambit. It’s available at her website, jessiemihalik.com, with chapters posted weekly.
Before you ask me, yes, we are still planning to resume Innkeeper Chronicles before Christmas. 🙂

Dina returns!!!!
PamG says
I’m doing the happy dance. Dina, Dina, Dina!!!
I’m neutral on cranberry sauce but I hate turkey, a few brace of duck is my family choice, but with a load of relatives we also roast a turkey.
Everyone goes home happy.
Jacqueline says
I love cranberry sauce. Forget the orange juice and just add a little sugar and no liquid except for a tablespoon of port. Simmer until all berries have popped. Yum, FYI the alcohol boils off. I too hate turkey but cranberry sauce goes really well with goose. And goose fat roast potatoes are out of this world. One of my guilty pleasures to be indulged in only occasionally.
Pat says
Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving. ?
CDNGIRL says
Best Christmas gift ever!!!
Andri/Kaylenn says
I would say enjoy the holidays, as you’ve got plenty on your plate between the last (::sigh::) Kate book and moving! Start Innkeeper in January, as hopefully you’ll be moved and partly unpacked at that time! =) Happy Thanksgiving! =)
Faith says
Love cranberry sauce (though I have to say my favorite is the jellied one sans berries from the can)
I’ve been following Jessie since you mentioned her when she sold her book to Avon and the sneak peaks she shared on her website look awesome. Can’t wait for that to come out. Thank you for sharing authors you like, I love trying them out!
Also yeah Innkeeper! I guess this is a good to reread the first 3 in preparation for the new one. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
Shelly says
I just finished re-listening to the Inkeeper books, and I really want more info on the assembly summons and Sebastien North. Inkeeper will be one of my favorite Christmas presents.
Jessie says
Doris’s covers look awesome! I’m always amazed at people who can create such beautiful art because I have trouble drawing a stick figure.
And thank you for the shout-out. Drinks are totally on me next happy hour. 🙂
Judy says
me too,,, lots of heart and good thoughts,,, zero talent
LynneW says
I am on your email list, Jessie, and I got to read it yesterday. Wonderful!!! You really bring the place and the people alive. Looking forward to what happens next ~
Joyce says
I am one of the people who love what you are writing. Guess my query on your page about Ilona Nd Innkeeper was old news. Never mind, love your writing And Innkeeper. ??
ManonLea says
We always for-go cranberry sauce in my family, but I have also made my first contribution to the feast – Grandma Rolls! My grams was a wonderful bread baker and I love pulling out the index card with her shaky cursive instructions to make these now that she can’t.
Also very excited about Inn Keepers, and am looking forward to seeing Helen back in the vampire world; I hope Aunt Dina gets to visit…
catlover. says
Just read Jessie’s chapter one. Looking forward to the rest. Thanks for the mention.
Vinity says
We are going out to eat!! Yaya, no cooking for me, but also, no leftovers. 🙁
YAY on more Innkeeper
I’ll check the neighbor’s story.
Colleen says
You made my day! Innkeeper!!
Bookworm says
I’m speechless and feel like Christmas just came before Thanksgiving. Innkeepers before Christmas?! Yay!! However – I do wish for you to have a joyous and loved filled Christmas season. Enjoy and take some time for yourselves!
KR says
Wow! Great idea to do premade covers.
Also, cranberry sauce is fun to make. I love the popping cranberries. Not a fan of actually eating the sauce but hubby and dd are, so I just get to enjoy the popping. Making it today. 🙂
MissB2U says
I love cranberry sauce. With persimmon and Star anise. I also love cranberry duff and highly recommend it to one and all. Easy to make and oh, so tasty with coffee at breakfast.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone here!
Karen the Griffmom says
Where do you find persimmons? Sounds great! Does the star anise just steep while boiling and get removed?
Surfergirl says
Popped over to Jessie’s site. Wow! That story just sucked me straight in – can’t wait for the next instalment
Gold star for the recommendation!
Diane L says
Cranberry sauce made here too. Today it’s time to make pumpkin pie using our home grown squash.
Very, very happy Dina & crew will be coming back soon! LOVE those stories!! 😀
Kathryn says
Thanks for all the great info, especially regarding the return of the Innkeeper chronicles. We actually adore cranberries, and have several yummy recipes that feature them in things like breakfast bread and trifle. Happy to share if you’re at all interested.
Tink says
Never liked cranberries. The rest of the family is good with the canned ones. Although my sister-in-law had a little quirk where she wanted the cranberries to slide out of the can but keep the can shape instead of mashing them up to disguise the fact that they look like they came from a can. She’s a bit weird.
Last week to vote for two of Ilona’s books in Goodreads, if you haven’t already. (Who am I kidding? We’re the Horde. We don’t wait.)
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. And to our fellow, non-American Horde friends, uh, Happy Thursday! When, you know, it’s Thursday.
(BTW, what’s the collective noun for the Horde? Hordites? Horde-ites? Hordeans? Hordenizens? Ooh, I kind of like that last one.)
Nean says
Tink, I’m with your sister-in-law. If you are serving canned cranberries – keep the can shape. 😉
I do like making them from scratch though. they are so easy to make and put away in advance.
Colleen says
The canned shape slices so nicely…I remember reading a magazine article with a guest chef (formally trained, owned a restaurant, etc.) showcasing all of his favorite Thanksgiving sides and turkey preparation. He included a cranberry sauce recipe, but admitted in the article, that on turkey-day, he preferred to slide his cranberry sauce right out of the can and slice it up (not mash) in neat little canned cranberry sauce perfection.
Patricia Schlorke says
I’m with you on the canned cranberry sauce sans chunks of cranberries.
Iona and Gordon thank you for the Christmas present! You are awesome covered in awesome sauce.
Happy Thanksgiving to the American branch of the BDH. To the non-American branch, happy Thursday. Not in Texas for Thanksgiving. Went north to Indiana (family lives there).
Nancy says
Thanks for remembering the “outside the US people” and a happy Thursday to you, too!
kommiesmom says
Just as long as we aren’t Horders, I don’t care…
kommiesmom says
That was supposed to go with the “collective Horde” several posts up?
Teresa Hughes says
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you are able to have the meal at your new home. Frabjous news about the return of Dina and her cohorts! Don’t kill yourselves getting it started before Christmas. Rest a little.

I love a good serial,,, and the books that follow. 🙂
Katelin says
Yay. Dina returns!
I love Doris’s work. She’s so talented.
Gail says
Dina! More Innkeeper! Happy Thanksgiving indeed.
Tiffany Crystal says
I love Doris’ work! Might have to look her up for when I finally get my Etlan book closer to being finished. I wish she had something more horror related to use for my zombie fic, since that one actually IS done, but ah well. That cover with the white blonde girl….I’d buy the book without even reading the back *_*
Amanda says
Here in the UK the fancy cranberry jelly with additions has arrived in supermarkets ready for christmas. My husband and I found a jar of cranberry with port in lidl that we couldn’t pass up – to heck with waiting for christmas to try it though. We will be spoiling ourselves by having it with some stilton for lunch tomorrow. 😀
Lynn-Marie says
Thank you, and happy thanksgiving!

Yes, on Facebook I got distracted by the photo of the cranberry sauce. But, here on the blog?

Your neighbor’s SFR serial looks worth reading. (N.b., the blurb is back one level, here: .) I enjoyed the first chapter, and bookmarked the story.
And yay! for more of Dina and company coming soon!

MeggsH says
Yay! Excited about Innkeeper. And I am totally gonna go check out her website….random observation- Isn’t The Queen’s Gambit the name of the boat Oliver Queen went down on in the show Arrow?…lol random thought
AngelMercury says
Hurray, Awesome news with awesome links!
R Coots says
Aaah cranberry sauce. Good for a couple bites, and then bleh. I found a recipe a few years back that involves layering sweet potatoes with cranberries and a cinnamon sugar mix. Then pour orange juice over it and bake the lot. Takes care of sweet potatoes and cranberries and is much tastier!
Yay for links! And more Innkeeper. More Innkeeper will be lovely, but don’t feel obligated to kill yourself getting it out or anything. So much on your plate!
Jamie says
I remember reading long ago there would also be a Hugh book. Is the current writing order last Kate book, Innkeeper, then Hugh?
CLDaniels says
1. Ohhh! I love cranberry sauce and that looks yummy!
2. OOoooo!!!!!!! Pretties! Lots and lots of pretties!!!!!!!!!!
3. Thanks! I’ll check her out!
4. ROCK ON! DINA RETURNS! YOU JUST MADE MY DAY!
DianainCa says
Thanks for the pictures, everything looks great! My brother asked me if I had a recipe for cranberry sauce/relish and I told him that I used that very old recipe called Ocean Spray ? My brother said he would research and find one, I told him I would make pies. Going to make the crusts tonight and bake tomorrow morning.
Good luck with everyone’s preparations!
Pa says
The Ocean Spray receipe is on the back of the package of Ocean Spray cranberries. It calls for sugar, water and cranberries.
DianainCa says
I was making a play on the fact that I just open a can of it.
A. says
I love the jellied cranberry sauce from a can. Not so much the homemade ones. 🙂 However If I do turkey its got to be free range. Tastes totally different. Can’t wait for Dina. Since the last Innkeeper I have re-read the whole series at least 4 times. I need my Dina fix.
Pa says
People complain endlessly about cranberries. When asked, they have never had fresh (not canned) cranberries made according to the receipe on the package. Said recipe has water, sugar, and cranberries. Very simple. No orange juice, orange rind, agave nectar etc etc to pollute the delicious taste. I confess to liking cranberries on the tart side, so I only use 2/3 of the amount of sugar called for in the receipe. Try it sometime. You might like it. Btw, with this receipe, the cranberries are best served warm, preferable with turkey breast or a biscuit.
D*Lm* a says
Hey Pa, that sounds mouth watering snackful. Thigh or drum please.
Fran O says
I grew up in Virginia and we always had pickled peaches for Thanksgiving instead of cranberry sauce. I think it’s a southern thing. Pickled peaches are awesome with or without turkey.
Btw, I can’t wait for the next Inn Keeper Chronicles!!
Bill G says
Love to hear that Dina and friends are soon returning.
Cranberry sauce? Hereabouts, a combination that looks just like that is enjoyed by piling it on a block of cream cheese, then slicing off a bit to go onto a cracker.
As everyone knows, Christmas snacks are non-caloric.
Marianne says
More Innkeeper? YAY!!!!!!! I apologize, I kind of blanked out on everything else as soon as I saw that. ? Thank you for the wonderful holiday gift!!
Thank you for the link as well. Will definitely check it out.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Happy Thanksgiving (or Thursday) to the BDH!! Hope everyone spends the day with and appreciating family and friends.
D*Lm* a says
The damned temptation!
Yayyyy! the inns open.
This is probably how some folks feel when the new season of their all encompassing, mind boggling, suspenceful, entertaining, series is baccck!
I’m still going to try to hold out for the book!
If I peek I’ll read.
Drat nabit, nrflblrg . . .
