This is an open beta read for Sweep of the Blade. We are looking for 5-10 betas.

What’s expected: we want you to read the book and tell us your reactions as you are reading it. If something doesn’t make sense or pulls you out of the story, for example. If you see serious grammatical errors, we would appreciate you pointing them out, but it’s not necessary to do an in-depth grammatical proofread, because a dedicated proofreader will be reading it as well. You will need MS Word for this task, so you can make comments in the file as you read it.

What you get: you get the book early. That’s it. There is no additional compensation except for bragging rights of being included in acknowledgments.

What you need to do to apply: email to brandi.bolden202 at gmail with SOB Beta in the subject of the email. Please mention if you have read the free version on the website. We need some people who have and some who haven’t.

How will you know if you are picked: you will get an email from Brandi with the file. We receive thousands – not a typo – entries for betas, so please don’t be disappointed if you are not chosen. We try to get a cross section of readers going based on age and background, and most likely someone had beaten you to the punch.

When is this due: as soon as you can, but try not to rush too much. Within a week would be perfect.

  1. I think it is amazing to have Beta Reader options available. I’m looking forward to purchasing and reading this book whenever it is possible. I’ve missed the world of Innkeepers and it’s thrilling to read a series I love and enjoy

    • Just started rereading from the beginning of the series, just to get back into the sweep, er, swing of things before this book comes out.

    • Can’t wait. But please get supine and prone right. Supine is when the patient or character is laying on the spine or back. Face up. Prone is when they are face down. Love your work.

      • Your definition of prone may be correct in a medical field, but it also just means laying flat (along with a few other meanings as well).

        1-having a natural inclination or tendency to something; disposed; liable (to be prone to anger).
        2-having the front or ventral part downward; lying face downward.
        3-lying flat; prostrate.
        4-having a downward direction or slope.
        5-having the palm downward, as the hand.

    • Yea!!!! I have been waiting for this book. Love all of the characters..also Maud needs to punch her brother in the face. For leaving his sisters in such a time of grief. Maybe slapped around alittle bit.by Helen. Since he is her uncle.. yep that would be a hilarious moment.

  4. Question: When you say “within a week,” are referring to emailing Brandi to become a beta? Or do you mean a week to actually do the beta read?

  7. Alas, my electronics do not include MS Word (or MS anything else), so no beta read for me.
    I am glad to hear that you are at that point in your “march to print” for SotB. I am really looking forward to the book.

    • Ditto. To make things worse, the library book are all checked out with waiting lists. Might have to search my bookcase.

    • How did you get it pre-ordered? I’ve been checking Amazon (even though I figured they’d tell us when it’s available, I can’t help it ?).

    • Also, if my brain didn’t fail me, I think they said recently that it wouldn’t be available for pre-order because that would push back the publishing date. Maybe? ? (Shrug)

  16. I would love to be a beta reader. I truly enjoy the Innkeeper series. I was hoping the television or movie industry would get involved. The Innkeeper stories would make a good tv series or web series. The story line is so different. I wish you luck on that!

  22. I’m pretty sure that’s Arland’s mother, Lady Ilemena. She’s blond like Arland, while Karat, his favorite cousin, has chestnut or dark brown hair. This picture was with a scene featuring a really pissed off preceptor.

  23. The blond is Seveline of the House of Kozor – that’s the picture they posted of her during the poisoning incident. She’s one of the bad guys. Not any relation to Arland at all.

    • That was who my guess was, but my memory isn’t good enough to remember what picture went with what scene. ?

I’ve recovered from my all night shoot of the stars (though I’m itchy from the bites I still got despite being covered head to toe in multiple generous re-spraying of my Deet-ladened bug repellent). The only surface not sprayed was my face, and the bugs were so voracious they were going between my eyeglasses and face trying to snack on me. (Seriously I might need to invest in a beekeeper mask). So I threw my hat in the ring for beta reading, but I imagine I was probably beaten to the punch by many other volunteers.

    So, I thought I’d just share some star trails for those of us still waiting to read the galactic adventure we love so well. ???

  29. Ha! I’m SO excited to see this! (Heh not even going to try for the Beta reading. Sure it’s full by now)
    But seeing this means The Book is getting closer to being on the market! And to make it More Perfect, just enough time will have gone by, that I will be SO ready for a ‘reading from the start’ (meaning I can re-read the other books as I’m waiting for SOB). YEAH!

I would love to do this… however it is purely for selfish reasons…. to get the book first… I’m not very good at slowing down enought to actually be a beta reader therefore I will sulk in my corner until the official release date. (I read the free version like six times so worry I would miss something because I “know” it’s supposed to bevthere). For those lucky enough to be the Chosen Ones… enjoy

  35. Wish i hadthe ms word thingy. But yeah, since i run the words thru as a ‘movie’, i do get stopped by diconnects and wrong word/homnym usage. Ah well. Gotta wait.
