Congratulations! You do know it’s not over. Now you have to move and find new homes for everything that gets moved. (Says the woman whose household goods were delivered last Saturday and is anticipating living surrounded by boxes for an extensive period of time)
Karen the Griffmom says
(Unpacking) ten boxes a day keeps the twitching away . . .

Oh, no. I’m sorry to tell you that it’s only beginning.
Pack and move everything you own. Seriously clean the old house.
Start showing the old house, sell it, deal with inspections and repairs, and then there is all THAT paperwork.
Start up your new home insurance policy. (And after you
move, cancel the old one.)
Now change over your addresses for EVERYTHING: bank, doctors, dentists, car tabs & drivers’ licenses, credit cards, Paypal, QVC/HSN/Etsy/Ebay,
iTunes, Amazon, ALLl insurance companies (health, life, car), etc.
Take a few Valium.
We just moved in the last year. Good luck.
Charley says
Should have waited a day to tell them!
Samantha says
Deffinately a day. They would have come to that painfull conclusion anyway, but why rub it in?
Katie s says
I just moved last week. I didn’t think about I-Tunes. Thanks for that reminder. Fortunately, I rent so I just had to turn in the keys and walk away. Still unpacking my junk. Still trying to downsize. Glad I took the week off.
Jo says
Congrats!
Tink says
Congrats! That’s a nerve-racking process, isn’t it?
Did you sell your house? Do you have to be out by a certain date, or can you take your time to pack and move? Not that you probably want to take too much time, because two mortgages…
My officemate is having a house built. It was supposed to be done in May. They sold their house back in July (it wasn’t officially on the market; they bought a used car from a couple who said they were looking for a new home and the couple bought the house). His family of 4 has been living with his in-laws, and their 2 or 3 cats and dog have been living in the basement of their house-under-construction, since they’re not finishing the basement. So selling the house before they moved into their new one hasn’t been the best experience for them.
Leena says
Congratulations!! Hope it exceeds your dreams xo

What a huge relief that it’s all official now! We signed the contract for our kitchen renovation today! Very exciting, but the work will begin in January as they are booked up until the holidays. I love the design, I hope it turns out even more beautiful than the models! We also found out that our youngest cat may suffer from anxiety and may need to go on Prozac, at least during the six weeks of work (and the vet says we need to start her two weeks before it starts). It seems you can’t get one thing without another… =) I still love the little floof, though. =)
Chachic says
Congrats! ???
neurondoc says
Me, too (on Monday)! Now we get the fun-after-piles-of-paperwork: renovations! And two mortgages! Eeeeek?
Wishing you joy and success in the new place.
KC says
Alas it’s not over.
Next is doing any work you plan to do to the new home before you move in. Packing, Moving, Unpacking, changing your billing address, and updating things like your driver license and other official documents. Not to mention, any work you need to do on the current place before putting it on the market to sell.

I am jealous. I still have to do ALL of it, plus wait for the house to be built. (With luck, completion September, 2018. Without- well, not a lot later, I hope.)
Have fun, once you have rested up. You both deserve to enjoy life a bit.

Now comes the easy part… moving!
Sorry, couldn’t resist the humor. I hate moving with the fury of the thousand suns. But, if I were moving (FINALLY) to a house of my own, I think I’d be happy.
You new house sounds lovely, so I hope that holds true for you and yours. Take care of yourselves. The season of run down immune systems and random viruses is in full swing. The only thing that makes moving worse is being sick while you are doing it.
Ange in Australia says

Congratulations. If you let family/friends help pack and move make sure they mark everything. I bought a house last year. Just found my pink sea salt and some random dishes when I opened a box marked holidays. There was a Christmas wreath on the top.
Rena says
Oh yeah, markings on boxes can be fun. I had movers pack my stuff last week and I am opening boxes today while trying to cook. The box marked Keurig had the bread machine in it. The box marked Tupperware had pots and pans in it. I still haven’t found my measuring spoons, cups or the Keurig yet! I did find the top sheet and 1 pillow for my bed, still hadn’t found the bottom sheet, mattress pad or the bedspread. But I have been through every box marked Master Bedroom. /sigh, This is going to take awhile.
Gratz on the new house. Good luck with all of the renovations. I really would recommend packers and movers. But the next time I would be watching and mark the boxes myself…
Char says
Congratulations! Enjoy the remodeling! Be sure your insurance company doesn’t cancel the insurance on your old house.
We moved out of our old house and were taking our time cleaning and fixing. Than the kid wanted to rent it. Long story short. I found our that when we bought the new house the insurance company cancelled the insurance for old house. For 2 years we hag an uninsured house akkkk!
Gloria says
Congratulations. May you fill it with joy and wonderful memories.

Great news! The fledglings leave the nest in fits and starts. Y’all are being great parents to bend from your determination to purchase future coral reefs to instead lay claim the another parcel of Mallville. (Okay, that was uncalled for — mostly.)
Your kids are very lucky to have you. And if you need computer fixation or installatives, give me a buzz…
Cheers!
Patricia Schlorke says
Yay, congratulations, and happy moving! At least the weather is warm for a move.
Regina says
Congratulations on your new home!
Now here comes The Inevitable Unsolicited Moving Tip ?: Give one ((fast & reliable)) person the job of marking the top & all 4 sides of each moving box with a room letter : for example Kitchen boxes get a “K”, Master Bedroom gets a “MB”, the Master Restroom gets a “MR”, each bedroom gets a Number, the Study an “S”, etc … Then at the new house tape a sheet of paper with the letter / number on the wall next to the doorway of the room those boxes go in. The FAT 1 INCH TIP MARKERS ARE BEST. The labeling job is more time consuming than it sounds, but so valuable -you’ll see what I mean.
The letters & numbers make off loading into the right room on the right floor more likely and so much faster. Most importantly, you don’t get boxes avalanched in the most convenient room ((convenient for the movers, Not You)) and there are 389 less things you have to make on-the-spot decisions about because it is obvious where you want each box placed.
Have a fast and uneventful move!
Julie says
That is very good advice. We move countries every few years for my husband’s job and use the same international moving company each time. They pack at one end and unpack at the other. They also mark all of the boxes when packing with the room it belongs in, which makes it easier and faster for them (as a company) when they unpack at the other end.
Katie H says
Which international moving company do you use? We are about to move internationally!
Susan Simko says
Being a military brat, I’ve moved a lot. Not only do I Mark each room on every box but also do a rough inventory list on top of the most important things in the box. It helps tons when unpacking as you know which boxes need to be unpacked first.
Meryl Markowitz says
Congrats. Best of luck in your new home.
Norma says
grins, now comes the fun part!!! Big congrats on the new house and endless days and nights of fun, adventure and love.
Jenna L says
YAY!
Congrats and have as good of a time as possible moving in! May I offer one slightly wacky suggestion (I’ve moved 60 times now – by this point it seems frankly WEIRD to stay in one spot for long. Was first a military brat than a gypsy myself for years) that can help the drudgery part go easier?
Take a break. Go to the store. Buy about $50 of non-perishable goodies that can take a beating. Chocolate that isn’t delicate, gummy bears, whatever. Hades… go into the liquor section and get yourself a dozen of the itty bitty bottles of the things that look good, but not so amazing you want a huge bottle. Wrap in bubble wrap, stick in a sock, etc and start tucking into random boxes. Turns what can be an utter slog into little chips of silly glee in the upcoming days. When you come across a goodie, take it as sign from above you should stop for a few minutes, enjoy how far you have come, maybe even wander about a bit before getting back to it. It’s ALL GONNA BE AMAZING! So happy for you all!
Jessica Winn says
Congrats! That’s always exciting when closing finally happens! 🙂
Michelle says
Congratulations, the fun has just begun. Enjoy ?.
Sharon says
Congratulations on this momentous event.
While I don’t envy you the packing, the leaving stuff behind and then the unpacking, moving can be quite cathartic- after the fact.
Take care of yourselves while you move – it is stressful and tiring. Enjoy the end result.
