It’s election week in US.
The election coverage is inescapable. It’s everywhere: at work, at the grocery store, at a gas station, in your neighborhood. It’s on social networks. It’s on TV. It’s in your text messages, bombarding you with demands, assuring you that there is still time to volunteer and donate, and badgering you for your time, attention, and money.
We are all exhausted.
The majority of people who visit this site are here for a break from their stressful lives. It is badly needed.
I’m with you. I’m also stressed. I went on a shopping spree of buying cheap sweaters, which I will never wear because I live in Texas. It’s November and right now it’s 63 degrees. I purchased them because I was craving being happy and cozy.
I bought yarn I didn’t need, and I had to physically restrain myself from buying yet another kit at Miss Babs. I had to hold an intervention with myself because the stress is so unrelenting and buying things provides a brief spark of joy, followed by a truckload of remorse. And then the horribly expensive built-in fridge we inherited with the house died, and there went my spending budget, so I really can’t afford the retail therapy now.
So much stress.
For this reason, this site is a no politics zone for the next two weeks. Comments expressing political support of a cause or a candidate will be removed. Nobody will be banned or anything like that. We are just making sure that people who are here for the much needed mental break get a little bit of respite.
It’s not censorship. We are a private business, not the US government. It’s not ignoring the importance of election or devaluing people’s fears or concerns. Quite the opposite. We value your opinions and your mental health, so we are providing a calm space where you can recover before you head out into the world again.
A little bit of perspective: we are all Americans. The people who disagree with us are also Americans. We may differ in political views, but we are all entitled to have them. The price of freedom is tolerance of the opposing views. The election is stressful, but we will endure.
Once you vote, let yourself off the hook. You’ve done your part. Deep breath.

Hang in there.
