A lot of you really became invested in the poll, sent us emails, and concerned messages, and there has been a lot speculation why there was the Innkeeper poll in the first place.
The poll happened because Maud’s novel sold shockingly well.
This is puzzling to me because I almost pulled the book from publication. I felt – and still feel – it has issues, and while we edited it to the best of our ability, we still only partially fixed the problems I saw. I never actually sent the email, but I had discussed it with Gordon and our agent at length, who both said that I was that uncomfortable with it, then we needed to cancel it, even if they didn’t feel the same. The only reason SOB made it out to you is because I made the decision one day late, and the file had gone into the preorder queue at retailer. Cancelling a preorder is very difficult and jeopardizes your ability to do preorders for other books.
I thought it was a bad book. Apparently, I was wrong. I am mystified as to why. So hence, the poll. It’s not you. It’s me. Stop worrying.
