The Small Magics audiobook you received an email about this morning is official, legitimate, and produced by House Andrews! And there is also a hardcover format launched at the same time- now is the moment to complete those pretty shelves!
Order links: Amazon | Audible | Kobo | Apple Books | B&N | Libro.fm
Ilona Andrews have partnered with Dreamscape for distribution of the audiobook, meaning it will be pushed to over 60 retailers, it’s worth searching the catalogue of your favorite one if I haven’t mentioned it.
Hillary Huber and Michael Glenn (the narrators of the dual-POVed Wilmington Years audios) have reprised their roles as Kate and Curran and extended their repertoire to the other short stories in the anthology: Of Swine and Roses, Grace of Small Magics, Retribution Clause (Adam is magnificently menacing!), Magic Tests, and Jim’s POV.
The audiobook will, of course, include the extended version of Small Magics, all 319 pages of it, in unabridged glory- almost 11 hours of Ilona Andrews goodness!
Happy listening!

This is fantastic – thank you so VERY much.
On the audiobook front, I understand Graphic Audio released the next dramatised instalment – Magic Bleeds – at the beginning of November. Could I please trouble you to let us know if by you have chance received any word on when that will be available on other platforms (eg Audible)?
Moderator R says
It will be on Audible and other 3rd party retailers on November 29 🙂
Michelle says
Thank you so very kindly once again.
Heather says
The Amazon link I clicked that took me to their page seems to have this audio version in Audible only, or else the printed version. Is it available somewhere without having to sign up for a membership to Audible? Will Chirp ever be one of the retailers?
Moderator R says
Hi Heather, I have links for Kobo, Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Libro FM in the post. Here it is on Chirp too https://www.chirpbooks.com/audiobooks/small-magics-by-ilona-andrews, available if you look in their catalogue 🙂
We understandably cannot link over 60 retailers in the post, that’s why I explained if you have a favourite one that isn’t mentioned, it’s worth searching for yourselves.
kels says
Thank you for this! I’d already forgotten pre-ordering 🤦♀️😂 and my immediate reaction was “oh no, not again!”
K says
Will we ever see more of Adam in the future? I remember really liking his character but not if he’s dead or alive…..
Moderator R says
He is alive 🙂 , but as to more from him, only House Andrews know.
Richard Manning says
It truly bites that you are having to make announcements of what is or isn’t legit. I (and I am betting the rest of your readers) would much rather you using your valuable time to write more of the wonderful novels that you and your husband produce, instead of having to put up with this crap. Keep up the great work, and don’t let this kind of stuff get you down.
njb says
Yep! Started listening last night. Lots of fun! Thanks so much for making it available.
Dana Siegel says
I bought the kindle version of this when it first came out. I went to buy this new extended version, but Amazon says I already own it. Do I need to buy it again to get the new version, or was my original version updated (I couldn’t figure it out)? Thanks, as I’m sure I’m not the only BDH member who needs to know
Moderator R says
No, you do not need to repurchase 🙂
If you go in Manage your Content and Devices in your Amazon account, you can look for the update to the book. If that doesn’t work, please contact Amazon customer services and they’ll be able to help 🙂
Dana Siegel says
ty, I’ll try that
Dana Siegel says
there doesn’t seem to be an update option available, so I will contact Amazon
Dana Siegel says
amazon told me there is no update available for the book at this time, and to check back later
Moderator R says
Hi Dana,
I will email you to ascertain the situation more clearly 🙂
Andrea says
I have the same issue. I purchased Sept 18, 2015. Perhaps it was the extended version at that time and so no updates available?
Moderator R says
The last time the update was pushed to readers was June 2023. We have downloaded it on various devices and it’s always the updated version, so I don’t know why it glitches to the old content to some readers.
If update, resync device and delete/redownload doesn’t work for you, please get in touch with Amazon and show them that your table of contents is different from the version they have on the Look Inside feature on the purchase page. That should convince them they need to reset yours on their end 🙂
Annamarie Schmidt says
Scared me for a minute–thought I might have to buy from the evil ones—but I have that from Subterranean Press!
Moderator R says
The hardcover is available from other retailers as well- I’ve linked B&N too, for example 🙂
SoCoMom says
Woo-hoo! I rushed to buy and found I had actually preordered. Settling down to a happy morning of listening, coffee, and leftovers.
Lorna says
I love that it’s unabridged . When I listen to changes in graphic audio I think, why change this? Ilona and Gordon are writers with “ skills” and they just change it….people who are not on the best seller list. As you can see, an edited/bridged audio bothers me, a lot. lol
Barrie says
Is there an audiobook for magic gifts? I thought it would be in Gunmetal Magic but it’s not. Magical, mystical Mod R please share your knowledge.
Moderator R says
No audio version for Magic Gifts exists, I’m afraid 🙁 . House Andrews did try this time around, but it didn’t work out.
Stephanie says
Is the hardcover extended compared to the Subterranean Press edition?
Moderator R says
I asked for you, will update when I know 🙂
Edit: It’s the same content as the Subterranean hardcover.
Stephanie says
Thank you very much for checking this!
Shlomi Harif says
Oh, huzzah!!!! Bought and engrossed. Can’t wait for next installment on Graphic Audio. THE BDH HUNGERS!
🙂
Happy T-giving!
Sally says
Honestly, I have become so leery of the audio book emails that my first thought was a weary “go check the blog”, not “hooray, an audio book!”
Moderator R says
🙁 Pirates ruin it for everyone. Cue the “this is why we can’t have nice things!”
Joanie says
Thank you so very much for all your efforts. I LOVE your books ! I enjoy these frequent notes almost -notice the almost – as much as your books. Your work with the audible books is really appreciated by many. I am quite hearing impaired and don’t get to enjoy the audible things, but I see that many people get to! Thank you!
Sam says
I am so not an audiobook reader, but I am loving this Grace of Small Magics snippet (listening as I’m typing this). I think it’s time for a re-read!
Frances says
Thankyou Mod R for this reminder that we have another box of goodies from our favourite authors to unpack! I particularly love the Grace of Small Magics story so will channel my inner small child at Christmas and unwrap that goodie first.
I have just listened again ( 3rd or 4th time) to the December 17th 2022 Christmas interview/ broadcast you did with House Andrew. Any chance of another one this year? ( Surely Gordon is longing to spill some beans and get the side eye from his loving wife ?)
I love to hear predictions and possible scenarios, for example, that Orro will march into the vampire castle kitchens and take charge of the wedding catering, that Dagorkun and Karat are not a possibility ( even if some of the BDH shipped it) etc. It is lovely to catch up with the characters we have grown to love in the world of Innkeeper, Kinsmen, Hidden Legacy and Kate Daniels. The characters that House Andrews create , even secondary characters, are so interesting that we welcome getting to know them better eg Karat in Sweep of the Heart, Bern in Hidden Legacy. Both of these characters have proven to be so much more multi dimensional than we were able to see when we first met them.
I do have a question. Will we see Sean’s parents again? I thought they might move into the housing estate now that Sean is settling down. Actually I have lots of questions but this comment is already long enough.
Thankyou for all you do.
AP says
Thank you for the reminder as well Mod R. I totally forgot I had pre-ordered it so it was a sweet surprise when it popped in! ::happy dance::
Lucine smith says
Serious question…I listened to the sample and as I have never listened to an audio book before, I wondered if this is the normal reading speed for an audio book? And if there’s a way to speed it up some if it’s bought… ?
Moderator R says
You can indeed select the speed you’re listening to 🙂 – I believe on the Audible app for example you can make it up to 3.5 x the speed.
As for “normal” speed, each narrator has their own style.
Since audiobooks are listened to by a wide audience, including people who may not be native English speakers or have different auditory processing needs etc, it is generally not recommended to rush through and make words run into each other 🙂
Emily Su says
Hi Mod R!
Is there any chance that the audiobook will sync to the digital version like the other books?
I’m sorry if you’ve already answered this question.
Cheers!
Moderator R says
Yes, the Whipsersync is on (for Audible at least, I’m assuming here that’s what you’re after 🙂)
Sherri says
why is the dramatization of magic burns 1hr 27min shorter the the regular audiobook
Moderator R says
Because dialogue with multiple people flows much faster than one person reading it 🙂. And the Graphic Audio adaptations add sound effects which lead to the text being slightly abridged: if the actor laughs there’s no reason for the narrator to say “he laughed” etc.
Hope this helps 🙂
Valerie says
I enjoyed both samples very much–great readers!–and look forward to the audiobook i.e. almost 11 hours of Ilona Andrews goodness.
Glad you (inclusive) moved past the earlier ‘southern accent’ reads ref. the Hidden Legacy series. I love the books but struggle with some of the audiobook voices. Huh. Particularly the creepy old lady voice used for Grandma Frida. I am pushing 70 myself, fish and hike (…and aspire to fixing mobile artillery). Neither me nor my equally aging friends sound like cute old ladies. Well, I don’t think we do.
Anji says
Will Magic Gifts ever be an audio book?
Moderator R says
House Andrews tried to include it this time around, but it didn’t pan out. Although there are no official plans, they are aware it’s missing and fans are requesting it 🙂
RJ says
Do you know when the next book will be released on GA? I am eager to listen to Magic Slays.
Moderator R says
An official date isn’t set yet, but Nora is starting on the script adaptation this week, so won’t be long! 🙂
Kathleen says
Will Magic Gifts ever be released in an auto format. It seemed that it was overlooked when Gunmetal Magic was released. Or did I just get the wrong copy.
Moderator R says
Magic Gifts doesn’t exist in audio, it’s no just your copy. House Andrews are aware and have tried to rectify it this time around, but it didn’t pan out.
Traveler says
I enjoyed “Of swine and Roses”. I always hoped you will reintroduce their Duncan and Alena’s characters in another book maybe as an elderly couple celebrating 50 years in one of their grand children’s stories.
