Hello, everybody.
We’re back from the tour. Yay! We had a blast at DragonCon and met a bunch of cool people who read our books.
The tour isn’t as exciting as it sounds. It’s awesome to meet readers – that’s our favorite part – but the tour itself is a bit tiring. Get up at 6:00 am, get dressed, get picked up at the hotel, get to the airport, check the bags in, go through security, maybe eat some airport food before the flight, fly, grab the bags, find the driver, get to the hotel, check in, fall flat on face for an hour, if there is time try to eat lunch (mostly there isn’t time), get dressed, get picked up for signing, sign and talk until 10:00 pm, get to the hotel (the restaurant is closed by then), wash up, pass out, do this again in the morning.
Tour is work. Contractually obligated work. Which was why we were all very surprised when some of you proposed that we should take time away from our busy schedule to actually do some work, so you can have Innkeeper. And when Brandi corrected this, some of you decided to take her to task.
It is not your job to take anybody to task here. I’ve tried explaining, I’ve tried being patient, and my patience done ran out. You complain, I ban. We have reached the level of zero tolerance.
Onto the FAQ. We have received many emails, questions, complaints, thanks and it’s been a blast. Some of you loved the book. Some of you didn’t. Some of you wanted more people/less people/different people killed. Some of you mourned the end of the series, some of you declared us hacks. A lot of you wanted a longer book.
Dudes. It was over 100K. Like 110K, I think. We had reached our upper contractual limit and then some. 🙂
But it is so fun to see so many of you really care about the series. Thanks, guys.
I looked through FAQ and most of the questions can be summarized as “What happened to X?” and “Will there be more?”
The plan was to follow this book with a Christopher and Barabas free novella, exploring the aftermath. The injuries, Jim’s moral dilemma, etc. The stuff that didn’t make it in due to length, a kind of extended epilogue. We wrote a very draining final book that was epic in scope and it was almost universally loved. That is amazing. There are some people who didn’t care for it, which is to be expected with the last book, but most of the readers adored it. We are so glad and we know you are eager for extras.
Unfortunately, we are both exhausted. We are really, really, really tired.
So continuation plans are on hold for now. Because of this a lot of FAQ questions can’t be answered. We could, but it would be a spoiler.
Here are some brief answers. Yu Fong survived. He was slated to appear in Julie’s trilogy, which is currently on hold.
Ascanio wasn’t in the novel because there was nothing for him to do in there. We could have him walk onto the page and say, “Hi, I am Ascanio” and stand around a bit, but then you would be complaining that he had nothing to do. And you would be right.
Curran didn’t hunt divine animals randomly. He went after divine animals who were causing an issue by eating people and would be destroyed anyway. Remember, all those were Guild jobs.
Kate is still in-Shinar. She doesn’t have the land or the huge reserve of magical power it provided.
Roland is not stuck by himself. Hugh, Kate, Julie and Conlan will visit him frequently. Roland can’t leave the realm because he absorbed the anchor. Look at it this way: Neig was the captain of the ship. He could leave it whenever he wanted. Roland is the ship. He will never walk on dry land again.
Kate and Curran are no longer part of the Pack. Their decision to leave had consequences. Doolittle’s, Dali’s etc first priority is the Pack, not people who walked away and abandoned it (from their point of view) no matter how deep personal friendships are. The Pack is life and law.
I hope that clears things up. The rest will have to wait until we have recovered.
On the personal front, the floor we had put in in December before we moved was put in badly and has to be redone. Ack. There is no point in going after the guy who did shoddy work – it would be pointless as he would simply declare bankruptcy and move on. It sucks but we are chucking it under live and learn. It’s been ground down and there is powder and concrete dust everywhere. I am trying to be zen about it. Zen and vacuum.
Also, once we picked up Sookie the bulldog from boarding, we discovered a limp. She started panting in pain and we rushed her to the vet. She has an infection in her elbow. There is no marks or cuts on her leg, so we are mystified as to how this happened.
As bad as it is, our HOA reported that a neighbor ran over a 4 foot rattler not too far from our house, so I am relieved it’s not a snake bite.
Hopefully the list news will come in tonight and if so, we will share.

Blah blah, comment, testing. Sorry, people are reporting issues.

thank you for the last book. I’ll miss the series, but it won’t be the end of the universe I hope. take a break to recharge. (not to long i hope 🙂 , me needing my innkeeper fix)
Angie says
Thx for the update! U guys get some well deserved rest! I can wait for innkeeper lol. Brandi, I’m sorry some ppl are putzes. My hubby Kay’s flooring, too bad u guys are so far away?

I’m retired, and I’d be happy to fix their floor, unfortunately Canada is too far to commute. lol
Hugs to Brandi.
Take a break, Innkeeper will make a good Thanksgiving offering,,, or Christmas if you still aren’t feeling benevolent towards jerks who complain about a free gift of love.

Can Roland trap people in with him by tricking them into eating? (Worried for liitle Conlan. My son will stick anything in his mouth he can get his paws on)
Verity says
I was wondering the same..
sarafina says
It will make for a fun story. Because all Kate has to do is wait, in MT it was said eating something will wear off. I think if Conlan does eat something, Kate will make Roland regret it for hours.
Lp says
I loved it! All of it. I had to do a little guessing at the end but I got it right. Glad to hear she didn’t lose all her magic. She’s gonna need it to keep up with Conlan! Good job!!!
Mike Reed says
Thank you for everything! The work you do is awe inspiring as always and I hope to one day meet you on one of your tours!! The book was fantastic and I will be reading it again very soon, and I can’t wait for the novella! I teared up at the proposal. Just thank you thank you thank you!!!
Christy Owens says
I loved Magic Triumphs and thought it wrapped up the series very nicely. I also thought it was quite long, certainly longer than all previous books by a good margin. What can you say….haters gonna hate. Super excited for a follow-up on Barabas and Christopher, whenever that happens! I was very glad that they finally got together officially before the series ended. Rest up! Thanks for another great story.
Mog says
I didn’t realise how long it was from reading it. Which is a compliment!
Sue Leadbeater says
I’ve only read Magic Triumphs twice so far but the bit where Barabas asks Christopher to marry him makes me tear up every time…in fact I’m tearing up now just thinking about it. It was just so perfect.
Thanks for an awesome end to a perfect series.
Alan says
Thanks for the books and the entire series, enjoy a bit of rest. Ill read anything else when it appears. No stress??
Cheryl says
Ditto, ditto, ditto! Any and all relaxation you take is so well-earned. I’ll wait as long as it takes and appreciate it immensely when it’s ready. Thank you for the KD world teasers.
KBadberry says
I have a lot I want to say but what it really boils down to is this. You guys are amazing! Your books are wonderful! Thank You for all your hard work. And that sucks about your floor, good luck with the repairs.
Caressa says
I absolutely loved the book. The writing was tight and flowed well. I love that you left room in your universe to revisit key characters and tell their story at a later date, if you do choose. I teach English so I might be biased. I love books and have read a few thousand over the course of my reading career. The people who chose to hate the book were looking for something only their imagination can supply. I didn’t want clear ending and neat packages. Life doesn’t give us those. I wanted true to fantasy life events and actions and that is what I got. Thank you!
Tiger Lily says
I rescued a pit bull puppy mix a couple years ago; he was about 9 months old we think. On day two he started limping and crying about his rear right leg. He had done nothing I could see to hurt it. It ended up that he had an infection in the knee joint of that leg. The vet surmised that while he was loose in the city prior to being rescued that he may have been bitten by another dog or eaten something that caused an infection that manifested in his joint. He had to do surgery and clean out the joint and do antibiotics and such. He said that Wilson will end up with arthritis in the joint at some point because of this. Wilson did make a full recovery except when he exerts himself he does limp. I don’t know if what happened is similar but the vet was able to help Wilson.
Good luck!!
Tiger Lily says
Sorry, I forgot to add that I loved the book. I just was sad when it ended as I love the characters, the world, and the struggles you put in front of the crew!!
LAURA says
Thanks again for all the awesomeness that are your books….the only time I will complain is if you both give up writing.
Gsg says
Some people have such an undeserved sense of entitlement. I can’t fathom why they would behave the way they did, especially towards Brandi! I loved the last book and especially Conlan. I’ve already read it twice. Once really fast because I have no self control then a second time to get all of the details I had missed.
Cheryl says
Loved “the sad song of his people”…
Lauren says
That was my favorite line in the whole wonderful book! I laughed out loud !!

I LOVE all your series and appreciate the extras you send our way. The last book was fantastic. It’s a sign of good writing when the reader of a series can still be surprised. I’m sorry some were mean to Brandy. Ungrateful. Enjoy some rest.
Dr a Julia were-unicorn says
I loved your book. It was ace. Because I love your books, I will always want more. However, because I know that great authors, are like really, normal people – they have lives, need to eat, sleep, have personal and family time, buy lots of yarn ( what’s Gordon’s hobby), go on looooong vacations etc, I am ecstatic to BUY what ever you wish to work on. I don’t expect freebies but look forward to any you graciously give us. You do not owe the hoard anything. Brandi – I apologise for other humans. Voodoo dolls may help! Love from Yorkshire. PS, I think a Huge has graduated to my fav character pops the photo is my horse Friday. This is how I imagine Bucky, but without the spots. In every other way he is exactly the same, and I can ride him backwards!
Judy B says
May I be you when I grow up? 🙂
Susan K Nagata says
I am glad that you survived the book tour 🙂 The ending was bittersweet but I still loved the book. I’d wondered what happened to Yu Fong, since the last I saw Adora was standing guard over his injured dragon. Glad to see that he has more story to tell. As for SotB, Yes I am dying to read more but I’m not selfish enough to harass Y’all over it. I figure you need to just sit & re-group before diving back into it. I can wait 🙂

loganbacon says
It’s true that I never want your books to end, but I mean that as a compliment, not a complaint. Magic Triumphs was wonderful and full of surprises. I thought I had guessed what would happen, and I was so wrong, and that was delightful. Good healing thoughts for Sookie. Our pups have been sick lately and I hate it.
Patti McGhie says
I loved the book and thought if was the logical, best ending for Kate and Curran’s story and they definitely do deserve their happily ever after, without the threat of Roland interfering constantly. Love the world and hope, eventually, when you feel up to it, that more stories/books will be set in it. Rest, relax, take care of yourselves and ban any entitled twits who think they somehow have the right to take you to task over anything. You are the best!

I loved the book. I loved how it ended (except for Saiman’s demise). Now i am left to wondering who were Hugh”s parents. Is it the maternal side or the paternal side that is related to the bloodline?
Rest up. You deserve it for a job well done.
Natalie says
I assumed they just meant by adoption like Julie herself, since Roland had done the same thing with Hugh that Kate did with Julie?
Lauren says
I’ve loved everything you’ve written and eagerly await whatever/whenever you choose to do next. I’m sorry for the doofus’ out there that would try to make you feel bad.
Thank you for all you do.
(Glad your pup is ok!!!)
Ruth Ray says
Thanks for the fantastic book. I’m patiently waiting for the next great work from the both of you. Have some tea when not vacuuming?
CaityKat88 says
I absolutely love d every word and page of it but I do mourn the end of the series. It has been and always will be my favourite group of people to read about and I’m sad the Kate will no longer be the focus. Her encyclopedia of weird was one of my favourite things. However there are other characters and hopefully more stories to be told, her chosen family are just as fascinating as she is.
So take the time to relax, mourn, rebuild and most importantly take care of yourselves!! Because without you the BDH wouldn’t exist and Kate, Curran, Julie, Conlan and the rest will still be there when you are ready.
And so will we.
Xxx

Glad you had a crazy and wonderful tour. Take however much time you need to destress and recharge.
Mike says
I really enjoyed the book, yes I agree there were things which people might want to have happened differently but it was a good end to a great series!! Was really wondering how they were going to “defeat” Roland. So kudos to you both!
I’m sorry that there are such demanding people who have their priorities a little skewed but to look at the bright side they love your work and want more of it but yes should really learn some respect and consider what they’re saying before they say it.
Looking forward to whatever comes next!
Jordana says
I enjoyed the book, and like with all books I enjoy, I always think they should go for ever! But in reality, I thought the book was perfect for the story you told. Thank you very much for your efforts, and I look forward to the next book you put out.
I appreciate all the communication and free storytelling you put out, and am happy to be able to read them when you have the time leftover from your “real”, paying jobs.
Karon Reese says
You guys rock! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again to offset the nasty, hateful remarks. I love all your stuff; keep it coming. How are your hands? Not really any of my business, but just want you to know that I’m thinking of you.
Jamie K Schmidt says
Good luck and the lists! ::Fingers crossed::
Kechara says
Speaking of dead. Is dead always dead in this world? Thinking of Saiman.
Of course Erra was dead. Grandma is dead. So there’s that. Too bad there’s no way for aunt b, but I can’t think of a way for that.

Hola!
Testing one, two, three…
Glad you guys made it back home safe (maybe in little tired pieces, but home nonetheless).
Hope your puppy gets well soon.
Missed your appearances during DragonCon, but had to stop by to say I LOVED Magic Triumphs! Left 5 star rating at Audible.
Sending “good-house-floor-juju” your way. And before I leave, a BIG “Thank You!” for the many hours of entertainment your awesome books have afforded me.
Always eagerly awaiting to see what comes next! 🙂
Mary says
Applause to you for sticking up for your staff and not tolerating crap. I am about 1/4 of the way through Magic Triumphs and loving it! Keep up the good work. Love your books. Can’t wait for the story of Rogan and Nevada and hope that is more on the horizon there. My copy is pre-ordered!

I loved the book. I loved the series. I blew through the book because I was so excited and now have to reread it to absorb it. I appreciate everything y’all and Brandi did and do. I’m thankful for how involved in the fandom community you are, for all the extras you give, and the fact that you care about your fans. I’m SO happy to hear Yu Fong lived. I wanted SO much from the book, only because y’all have such a rich world full of complex characters – everything would have never been enough. Y’all are amazing and thank you so much for the last 10 years of excitement and emotions.
Maggie says
You two are amazing. Thank you for your work. <3

Glad you guys made it back, but sorry about Sookie. Rest, Recuperate, and try meditating over the floors. 😉 or smile and say “I never did mind about the little things” then get even. =)

I am so sorry people are complaining. Yes, I want more Innkeeper (I can’t wait to see what happens), but please take time to rest and recuperate first. I loved Magic Triumphs and had to go back a re-read Iron and Magic to see the link more clearly. I love how you weave everything in your world together. Looking forward to many more books, characters and amazing stories. If you write it I will read it.

ANOTHER free novella with Barabas and Christopher?! :dies:
There might be a possibility of a Julie trilogy (if not stuck on hold)?!?! OMG. Yu Fong LIVES!!! I’m so happy.
Um, glad you’re back and all! Take a break, get a massage, drink a glass of wine (or mocktail), and relax! Cuddle with that poor sick pup!
Lou says
You are great writers with skills and imagination I don’t see often. I’m old, a former English teacher and read constantly. I’m sorry about your dog, Hope you get things sorted at home and please take a break. We will be here. Loved the series and applaud the end.
Sue Padgett says
In my humble opinion MT was written exactly the way I hoped it would be! I felt like you really wrote this for us, your readers. The feels were all there, the epic battle was suspenseful and tense, I laughed and I cried, I got to see so many old friends along the way (and those friends kept in character).I’m so happy for Christopher and Barnabus ?, can’t wait to see how Julie fares on her new path, how Erra deals with life, how Roland hangs on and how Conlan grows up to be amazing! And everything else, too. You gave me everything I wanted in this book and so many new things to look forward to. Am I gonna miss K&C? You know I will be, but it’s ok, they’ll be with me always. Thank you for the ride, your sass and the love.
Karen the Griffmom says
Thanks for the reassurance in Grand Rapids about Yu Fong and your attempt to teach me the correct pronunciation of volhv. Wish you had been there when I was struggling my way through Chaucerian English. Glad DragonCon gave you a chance to stay in one place for a few days! Welcome home.

Thanks for the stories!!! Take much needed breaks & come back with whatever, whenever… and sorry for the mean people. Innkeeper is awesome, but why be mean….patience/another excuse to reread the first three books!

I truly enjoyed all of your books. Magic Triumphs was a magnificent ending to the series. Now I have to hope that SM Stirling and David Weber do justice to their work in their series finales. You set them a very high standard to live up to.

First, Glad you are home and safe. Very sorry to hear about the bulldog, I hope all turns out well. I can say that I did have many questions at the end of the book. That being said, I was aware that you hinted at novellas and follow on stories. I eagerly await any of those.
To those who complained about no Innkeeper installment, Be Quiet. They do it for free and you should be grateful. I know the pain and exhaustion of constant travel and engagements, it is not a vacation or party time as some of you obviously believe. So, fire away if you disagree. I have all the time in the world to not listen to you.
To may favorite fantasy authors, THANK YOU. Keep up the great work knowing that the majority of us appreciate your time and effort.

Get well!

You guys are amazing! How you do it all is beyond me. You engage so much beyond any other authors I know…but YES to banning people who can’t be polite. Life is too short.
Of course I hope there is more…but yall seriously need some down time. Like REAL downtime. Play some games, knit, rest….come back in a month or two.
Crossing fingers the book made the lists!

I loved the book. There is a lot in it that suggests continuing books with the same characters, focusing on different ones. Thank you for the free books you post – I love Maud and Helen, and as soon as you finish, re-write, publish I will buy it – and copies for my daughter and granddaughter. Tradesmen: here in the UK, I get people who belong to the Federation of Master Builders. They’ve always been competent, and if there is a problem the Federation will help resolve the disagreement.
Hat says
Oooooo… Christopher and Barabus novella sounds heavenly. I really wanted good things for Barabus, all the angst and drama with the unworthy Ethan, that was so much lead in to this happy ending, it’s going to be so epic!
All in all, glad you guys survived the tour. I totally get it, touring is work, very hard work, you have to be “on” for long hours, be nice to strangers, listen to them fangirling, get no food…
Take a break, rest your fingers… show us Gordon is his new cowl.
Tasha A says
Loved the book! Yay Yu Fong!! Thanks so much for the description of Roland as the ship vs the captain of the ship. That makes total sense in my head. He isn’t going anywhere!! Rest, recuperate, relax and take care of your pup! We will be here when you get back. Sending best wishes for the floor. We are dealing with a bad build on for deck…it’s now pulling away from the house!! Sigh stupid buliders.

Love the book, and you guys rock!
Thank you so much for sharing your gift with us, and if poeple dont’ like it tell them to write there own book. Loved, loved, loved the book. I am on third read and looking forward to starting at “here, kitty-kitty” some time next week.
As always, I will buy anything you write. I love the Innkeeper books, and read as they are issued. Even so, I get them on Kindle and on Audible.
I really hope you guys take some time to yourselves. You deserve it.

The signing in Woodstock was Great! Standing room only. Really enjoyed your stories and the question and answer session. I had cabin fever big time and had been looking forward to this so my husband made it a date night for us. The book is awesome! Can see where there will be more novels to continue the saga. Poor Skokie. You know what happens when mom and dad are away. She had a verrrry good time!

Darlene says
I think I’m on my 5th (maybe 6th?) re-read of MT. Authorlords – we are so not worthy but thank you so much for the wild ride – it was a blast! Also – so far I’ve not read any comment about the possible prophecy from Magic Rises that – sort of – comes true in MT. Kate and a certain talk, dark and rides a white horse Warlord meet back-to-back during the final battle only to separate to charge into the melee again. That Was Awesome!! forgive me if I misquote – my book’s not handy, “Not a true prophecy, but A prophecy!”
Sharon A. says
I thought that at that scene, too!
Darlene says
Oh goody I’m not certifiable…yet, just a little crazy! The first time I read that scene, I was like, wait, wait, we’ve “seen” this…sort of lol

Another lover of your books – they’re not my favorite genre, but darn it, they’re fun. What prompted me to write, though, is that while some rude people might still have valuable things to share, these online communities are always better when the people who can’t share are not allowed to ruin the space for others – ban them, and give them a way to get back if they reform.
Anyway, I can’t say much about “Magic Triumphs” – the next Ilona Andrews book on my to-read pile is “Magic Slays”. I’ll get there eventually!
Rowan A says
Sorry you have to put up with us. I loved the book, it was indeed a triumph. Please keep doing what you’re doing x

Conventions and appearances are tiring; when I had to work Comic Con as a marketer for an entertainment brand my day was 5am -wake, shower, dress, get ready, answer work emails leave by 7am and then it was all work: film video extras and online promo spots, press opportunities elsewhere, panels, signings. Evenings usually had 45 minutes set aside to shower, change to nicer clothes do hair/makeup eat, then do “after parties” which were a combo of press coverage & networking. Ud get home back to the hotel at 2am. Repeat.
Travel always wears you down. Seeing you guys in Dallas we got you before the cumulative affect of days of travel/tour got to you, and you were both great. ♡♡♡
I assumed because of the tour there would be no innkeeper installment, but I don’t think I ever saw a post to specifically manage expectations beforehand about it, or it got buried in posts focusing more on Triumphs or the tour. Perhaps if there had been a dedicated post to remind folks it wasn’t coming, it may have mitigated some of the complainers. Regardless being berated is inexcusable behavior. I’m sorry you (Ilona, Gordon & Brandi) dealt with that.
Teresa says
That is just the coolest picture. What fun. I am so envious.
Simon Lyon says
@KC
Intelligent people only need to see “book tour” and assume “OK no Innkeeper for a few weeks” (especially after the ALs gave us two or three in quick succession).
Then there’s the other kind of people …
The ALs shouldn’t have needed to spell it out for the hard of understanding!
Egosumcignus says
I am NEVER disappointed by anything you write, and Magic Triumphs was no exception. Thanks for so many great books over the years. I look forward to the ones yet to come!
On a separate note, I’m sorry to hear about your flooring issue. While it’s true that the contractor might file if you go after him personally, have you considered making a claim against his contractor’s bond? A bankruptcy by the bond principal does not generally prevent a claim against the bond. However you decide to proceed, I wish you a speedy resolution.
sarafina says
At least let the Better Business Bureau know, if there is one.

Loved the book, but was bother by Julia situation at the end. However, in reading your post i know understand. I will just have to be patient. Also hope that there will be stories regarding Aunt E.
Aleea Brewer says
Thanks for the update. Travel is exhausting and your schedule was tight. Glad you are home to your own bed. Also happy you are standing by both Brandi and your web folks. Some people (the complainers) wouldn’t be happy if you hung them with a brand new rope. Loved the ending of the series, as I already told you. Take time to care for the pup, the floor, and each other in any order you choose. Share with us when and what you may, we know your work is a very personal sharing of the different worlds in which you live.
Lara says
Wow that sounds exhausting. You two always have so much on your plate. I hope you get the rest you deserve after that awesome book, the rest you need to stay sane and healthy. Glad that it’s not a snake bite, poor doggie. Love magic triumphs, read it twice and will read it again today because it’s awesomer each time I take it in.

Welcome back!! I’m so sorry your puppy is hurting and hope she feels better asap! I’m sorry about your floors and hope those get redone to your satisfaction as quickly as it can (given the good, fast, cheap rule). I’m sorry about the poopie heads being rude to y’all and mean to Brandi. I appreciate that you support and protect your assistant and block the shmucks. I’m glad you survived your tour. That schedule sounds brutal. Rest. Relax. I will be waiting and excited for whatever, whenever you get there. I loved the book. It was far and away the best “end of a long series” book I’ve ever read. And I actually appreciate that you didn’t do the “Pointless Walk On” to say good bye with various characters even if I miss them. I’d miss them either way but it would bloat the book, slow the story and be stupid. So thank you. I’ve seen authors do that and it was worse than missing them. Have a lovely week!
Ami says
Modification of statement- The book rocked all on its own AND it was the best end of a long series book I’ve ever seen done thus far.
Rachel C says
Loved the book. LOVED IT! I have read, re-read and re-re-read it multiple times. Yay for Kate and Curran’s “happily ever after” as they sure as heck deserved it. I am glad to hear that there will be more stories in that world, they will come when they come and the anticipation is half the fun. How anyone could expect you to do all the tour work and still write an Innkeeper chapter is beyond me.
My only “complaint” (and it is not so much a complaint as a wistful wish) is that I wish you would be able to do signings elsewhere. I live in the NYC vicinity and would love to come to a signing. I understand the travel is stressful and while I wish you could come to a closer location, I totally get why it is hard for you to do so
Simon Lyon says
@Rachel C
I live in London UK – pretty sure the ALs would be mobbed if they did a signing at Forbidden Planet. Transatlantic is a bit too much of an ask though!
sarafina says
They are going to be in France. I know it’s a different country, but it’s much closer to you than across the Atlantic. Although I don’t if the Brexit thing messes up travel.
Simon Lyon says
@sarifina
I may be able to make France – when are the ALs going to be there.
No problems yet with travel in Europe but Goddess knows what’ll happen with Brexit down the line in a year.
No-one else does, most especially our mentally challenged politicians.
You may think you’ve got problems with Trump? Count yourselves lucky!

Welcome home . The book was wonderful with so many characters , storylines and loose ends . I glad you were able to save Roland( sort of) . So he can be a grandfather to Conlan, with supervison of course.
Love Barabas and Christopher and so happy there love story will continue. Want to see Julie grow up, what will she do.
And with whom?
Sorry your doggy is sick. Take some time to be with your pets, they need to reconnect and tell you how they missed you.
Fie on your contractor, for the floor.
Order out , or cook something you really like .
And enjoy being home, with your family, friends and pets.
Everything else can wait.
Thank you and extra thanks to Brandi .
Teresa says
Magic Triumphs was perfect. Love loved loved it. I felt like you wrote it for your readers also. That’s why I have been reading and listening to it over and over. I can hardly wait for your next project ( no pressure intended).
This is for Brandi. Sorry for anyone that hurt your feelings. Some people get too caught up in the story. They should just wait for the book. Obvious that they cannot handle the wait. I don’t know what was written because I was not expecting a new segment of the book so I wasn’t checking.
Ilona and Gordon you have a personal triumph. What a great book!!!!!! Magic Triumphs was just the best. And it deserves saying over and over.
Susie Q. says
Authorlords, congratulations on completing your tour. Have a stay cation and rest up and enjoy sleeping in your own bed. If anyone checked your schedule, you were in a different city every day. Traveling for work is WORK. I am grateful for all that you give us. Since running across your site, I checked the sites of other authors and no one is as generous with their time and talent. Brandi, thanks for all the work you do to keep things running smoothly. You deserve to be treated with respect.
Debi Majo says
Just remember, you are the author. We are the readers. You write… we read. No exceptions. I loved the book. I’ve read it twice. People who complain should just SHUT UP! They have no rights in this relationship. Okay, stepping off my soapbox now. ?
Teresa says
I liked your soap box. You tell them like it is.
Karen the Griffmom says
Put them UNDER the soapbox and then jump on. I thought we settled all this entitlement nonsense a year ago!
Fabrice charleux says

Thanks for Magic Triumphs-,wicked good story. Endings are always bittersweet. Glad your tour felt successful, Now for a well deserved R&R& regroup.
Ngarie says
I hope today your children laugh, your dog walks a little better and your floor is not quite so dusty! Then you can take a deep breath and smile. Take care guys.
Vicki says
What a schedule! You must be totally exhausted. I am sooo sorry people gave you and Brandi grief and feel banning them is appropriate. Still, it was unfortunate you had to deal with it at all. I consider each Innkeeper post a gift…a gift I really look forward to reading. However, when life happens and gifts are suspended I bless you for the ones I have already received as I re-read them and hope and pray life gets better for you. This has not been a good year for you on the home front. Hopefully, the issues have peaked and the following months will be tranquil and happy. I would appreciate an update on the hands. I was afraid they would get worse with all the signing you had to do.
Know you and Brandi are loved and appreciated and don’t let the Jerks wear you down!

I’m not sure where the sense of entitlement is coming from, but I know most of the BDH is happy whenever any of your work is released. I hope you get plenty of rest and are able to recharge. Fingers crossed about Sookie not having anything serious.
Chess says
I loved the book, really appreciate all you both do! Can’t wait for Julie’s trilogy. I have been decorating since February so I can sympathise how disruptive the flooring will be! Get well soon sookie!
Diane Lang says
Absolutely loved the way you guys wrapped things up in Magic Triumphs. 😀 When my crazy life eases some I’ll be adding my review. Looking forward to reading further adventures in the Kate Daniel’s world but no rush. Thanks for all you do for us readers.
Enjoy some down time, taking care of essentials at home.
Pfefferminztee says
Thank you for a fantastic last installment of a fantastic series that I have re-read multiple times. Your work is highly appreciated.
Touring sounds like my personal hell. (flying, non-stop appointments, people everywhere) I hope you will find a way to recover from all that stress soon.
VeronicaK says
Loved the book so much, and thanks for the updates! I hope you will be able to continue the Julie trilogy at some point because I really love her, and Derek. I also got really attached to Erra, which I didn’t see coming. Ugh on the house stuff, especially the concrete dust. And the vacuuming. I hope you can get some rest, the pup gets better soon. Thanks again for everything you, and Brandi, do. Yay on the zero tolerance and banning. You have way more patience than I would in the same situation
Dominique says
Thank you for a wonderful book! Loved every line of it, as I do with all your work! You two are doing a terrific job at giving us awesome stories, don’t let yourselves be pressured by some inconsiderate readers. The rest of us love your work and will always be patiently waiting for the next thing you write…
Susanna says
Thank you for your wonderful books! I appreciate all the content you do. Enjoy your rest and I hope you are able to get some with all the craziness that is happening.
Wendy Saf says
Loved the ending! I didn’t see how Kate could kill her father, so this was perfect. And I’m glad to hear you aren’t tolerating complaints or complainers. You don’t need or deserve to hear from narcissistic jerks! I’m looking forward to the next Iron and Magic. Hope you find a tropical island to rest in for awhile. We’ll live! Take care.
The Other Margaret says
Blessed Be folks. Thank you for all your hard work and your patience. Went to one of your signings many years ago in San Diego at Mysterious Galaxy. Lots of people, small store. I understand your exhaustion. (Now I live in western Pennsylvania nowhere close to anything.) Love all your writing. Never ever disappointed.
Julie Rankin says
I LOVED the book. Excited to hear that there will eventually be a trilogy for Julie. As far as others not liking the grand finale, they must just be bummed about the end of the series. I thought it was the perfect end to one of my all time favorite series. Thank you for all of your hard work. You are truly talented. Can’t wait to read your next books!
Court says
Kate was my first (in the genre ?), my favorite and I doubt will ever be topped. Absolutely loved MT and although Kate abd Curran may be done as primaries, can’t wait for Julie’s trilogy (whenever they arrive) and any other ‘Kate’s World’ books and novellas that feature beloved characters. In the meantime, I’ll continue to devour the Hugh & Elara books, Hidden Legacy (Catalina next, I think?) and of course Innkeeper. You folks are the best. Totally ignore the few naysayers; they’re not worth the effort.
kim says
You will never please everyone. If you can’t be polite then you deserve to be banned. I have loved the book and the series. You guys go above and beyond with stories and snippets so thanks for being so nice. Sorry there are bad apples in bunch. P.S. I am pulling for Roman meeting the right woman sooner rather than later.
SoCoMom says
Welcome back! Thank you for all the great stories and fill ins. Sorry to hear about Sookie’s elbow and the state of the floor. Hope you all get a good rest!
Pat McCain says
Loved all your books!!! Especially loved Conlan and his Rawrr!! My cat, Bishop thinks he is a lion….. until it thunders!
Amy McDonald says
I loved Magic Triumphs, I thought it was AMAZING!! Sure not everyone does, but look at it this way you can not please everyone all the time. I love everything you guys write, and I hope you continue to give us more stories to read. But rest first you deserve it. As to the whole InnKeeper thing, Do not let people who are selfish get you down, you are busy and have other things to do as well. True fans understand, and appreciate all you do!!
Natasha Johnson says
I loved MT and am sad that it is over as KD is the one series I read over and over and recommend to everyone but with the sadness comes joy because two of my favorite characters finally get their HEA. I’m excited that y’all are going to let us get books with other characters from the series and maybe a sneak peek into what my favorite two are doing and how Conlan is doing (lol I burst out laughing at the I do not negotiate with terrorist my husband has said those exact words to our two rugrats). Brandi I’m sorry people were rude to you because they did not get their way over a book that Ilona and Gordon are writing and letting us read for free (I honestly thought after the last post we might never get SOTB because people are too selfish and though it would suck I would completely understand) you have been great at keeping us updated and answering questions when you can! Ilona and Gordon get plenty of rest and hope your fur baby gets to feeling better.
Tink says
I was tired just reading your travel schedule every day that Brandi posted it. And it’s not like the locations were within driving distance of your house or even each location.
Here’s hoping you don’t pick up a cold from all the flights and hotels. ::knocks on wood::
Marzie says
I hope Sookie feels better soon. And that you guys can really rest.
Thank you for a wonderful Magical ride. I’ll be ready to read whatever you write, whenever you feel like writing it.
Stephanie Johnson says
Loved the book! Love the inn keeper series. I have loved everything you have written!!!!! Love you! I appreciate everything that you do!
Alex says
Thanks for being so engaging on an exhausting tour! We had a lot of fun meeting you in Lexington. Once you settle back in at home and Sookie is better, will you share Martha’s honey muffin recipe? You talk about it so much in the books, so now that I know it’s real I want to give it a shot.
Lee says
+1
I have now tried 2 different versions and don’t think either is Martha’s. Please share your (“Martha’s”) recipe?
Colleen Curran says
Glad you had a good trip and welcome back. Take a break! We can wait. We’d rather you breathe and enjoy your work so you do it for much longer.
Theresa says
I have been reading your books and your website for a long time but I never comment. I just love how real you are with your fans. You’re real people with real lives who also happen to be amazing story tellers. I’m always disappointed when there’s no Innkeeper installment – but I would never dream of complaining since it’s free work that you do out of the kindness of your heart and not something for which we’ve paid. I haven’t read MT yet because when I start it I won’t be able to put it down, which means I’ll need to be sure I have nothing going on the next day! With two small kids that doesn’t happen often. But I can’t wait to disappear into Kate’s world again. Thank you for all you do!
Simon Lyon says
Zero tolerence for ungrateful ushivim who give you and Brandi a hard time sounds about right. Wish I could think of a banner for the site. “Ushivim-free Zone” maybe? Would need a graphic (what does an ushivim look like?) 😉 😉
Anyway, glad you had a blast on your book tour and I, personally, am NOT expecting another chapter this weekend. Please just kick back and relax.
Lee says

kommiesmom says
I don’t think we want to see ushivim. Read the definition again.
Ew – just ew!
Simon Lyon says
Yeah, that’s exactly why I can’t come up with an acceptible banner!!!
Kyle Belliston says
I thoroughly loved the book, and will enjoy Joy anything you choose to add to it.
jewelwing says
You done good! Time to kick back for a bit. Thanks for letting us into your worlds.
jewelwing says
And now I see Simon got here first with that suggestion. Oh well!
Simon Lyon says
If enough of us say it then maybe they’ll actually do it! 😉
Reading their schedules for the last few weeks just makes me want to crawl into bed and pull the covers over my head!
Jenn Steele says
I’m so glad you had fun at Dragon Con, and I hope your schedule allows you to come back another year. Your panel was one of the best I attended all weekend!
Roxanne says
Looking forward to reading MT (borrowing from local library and plan to buy a PB copy later on…)! Thanks in advance for an excellent series, the epilogue, Hugh’s trilogy, the possibility of Julie’s trilogy and any other stories you are inspired to write! Hope you enjoy the rest and relaxation before getting back to work.
Tine says
I haven’t really started the latest book yet. I have been in a rereading mode and haven’t moved onto new works yet.
I really, really liked your last novel, title escapes me since I bought it in e-format and I can never remember titles, I almost didn’t buy it but you have never disappointed me and have always surpassed my expectations. I fell in love with these characters as I always do with you stories.
There are a**hats in this world. With social media people can be shockingly rude because they never have to say anything to someone’s face and are very rarely held accountable for what they say.
Just run you fingers through your hair, ruffle your hair, and “wash” your aggravation away. It’s stupid, it’s silly, and it sometimes works.
I am sorry that you and your family and staff have had to deal with people who have taken their escapism too far.
I enjoy you Sweep series. I look forward to reading each installment as they are published. Have I missed them? Yes. Have I missed them? Yes. Have I made the correlation between you being on tour and the lack of installments? Yes, but it does seem as if those few who can ruin it for many and be pains in everyone’s asses cannot make that correlation.
As far as the story not going where I wanted it to go? It’s YOUR story and I am just along for the ride.
I hope your day, week, month brightens up for you.

Well said. Hope Sookie recovers and the floor gets redone properly this time. Take some time for yourselves, as you deserve it and block the complainers.
Loved the book. I think you did an excellent job of finishing off storylines while leaving some threads for future story lines.
Tamara says
I loved the final book. I think it was a perfect HEA. Please rest. True devoted Innkeeper fans are capable of waiting without complaint.
njb says
Hear, hear!! Loved Magic Triumphs and it never occurred to me that anyone would expect you to find time to write anything, let alone keep up with a free story, while out of town and rushing from one city to the next. What jerks some people are.
Glad you enjoyed the tour, which sounds exhausting. So sorry to hear about the home front woes. Hope all works out well. Best wishes for some relaxation and recharging of the batteries!
Swati says
The entire series was magic ? literally. I think you did a fabulous job on the last book. People suck and especially on social media. So sorry that Brandi got yelled at . Everything you do on this website is a generous gesture and if asshats can’t be grateful, banning is a good thing. Thank you again for all the wonderful stories.

Thank you for a very well written series and for any extra chapters, snippets, etc. that you write and share. I hope you have some actual time to relax and not actually think about work.
Carolyn says
A few random thoughts: I missed you. I’m very happy about the successful release of the last book and I’m sad to see it end. You did a fantastic job with their HEA.
Brandi deserves all kinds of warm fuzzies. Good job, Brandi!
Glad you’re home, safe and sound.
Bridget says
I had to skip parts of that because I haven’t got to read the book yet, but Kim Harrison posted a pic of all you guys and I thought-dreams do come true. ? I wish I was there. My dream panel would be you two, Kim Harrison, Jeaniene Frost, Richelle Mead, Jennifer Estep, Patricia Briggs, and Molly Harper.
Catlover says
Thanks for the FAQ! You have the map and I have no problem sitting back and enjoying the ride as you cruise along the story highway. Bleh on flooring/construction dust. You can stand with a vacuum hose in hand next to the mess being made and it still filters throughout the house. Oh well, hopefully you get the floor you actually want this time. Rest, recharge the batteries, and lavish love on your pooch. Happy to wait for the writing bug to start itching again 🙂

Claudia says
I will of course wait for any book. Sorry but it’s already late in Europe ?
Jenn says
haha, I’m glad to read the clarification on Curran and the divine beings! I will blame my misunderstanding on the speed of my reading. I love your books, trying to find someone else as GOOD to read while I wait for the next by either you guys, Jeaniene Frost or Nalini Singh has led me down some strange late-night rabbit holes. I did read a really great book by Laura Thalassa called “Pestilence.” I thought it was so good, and then realized how horrifying it was and I should probably feel ashamed, but then…I liked it, even though, ahem, there were some extremes of torture and disease and death. SO I’m back to Vlad, book 1, while I wait for Ian’s book…and the other wonders on YOUR release calendar. 🙂
Welcome home and thank you as always, for all the unforgettable characters!
Sophie says
Yeah, Pestilence seems to get really mixed reviews because it’s way, way dark for a novel with a happy? ending. I liked it, but I also appreciate a person who appears violent and merciless and completely lacking in empathy discovering/learning/revealing their capacity for decency.
Mischa Becker says
Anyone complaining that your books are too short are putting the blame in the wrong spot. They aren’t too short, they are so well written that I read them almost twice as fast as some other authors.
And count me in as one of those that thought this book was a perfect ending to the series.
Debbie says
I loved everything about MT even though I never wanted it to end . I getbthatbut had to. Thank you both so much for bringing this amazing world to life for us. I for one am grateful, don’t listen to the haters. Don’t sweat Innkeeper we can wait abd mist of us will wait quietly and patiently because it is a gift that we appreciate. I hope you both put your feet up and take a well deserved rest for a while, you are due one
Jacquie says
Glad you had a successful tour, that you are home and can now rest. Sorry some obviously self-centered people ragged on you and Brandi. Brandi was very charming the one time I had contact with her.
LOVED the book! Loved it. And, love your writing so much that I don’t care how scheduled it is, if it takes longer time wise to get to us, then that’s what it takes. It is always worth it.
Take the time you need to regroup. Your most loyal followers will still be here.

I absolutely loved the whole series. The last book was just as good, if not better. I have already read it twice, first time quick just to know and second time slower to savor. Pooh on the jerks that want something for nothing. Your writing is wonderful and is a great escape for me. Please take a break and rest up. Give your Sookie lots of attention and love. I hope you can find or figure out the cause of her elbow issue. Thank you for sharing your talent, life would be tedious without you.
bookbeaut says
I’m glad Sookie the bulldog is okay! What a stressball to have to redo your floors right after tour…I know many people have already expressed this, but I’m sorry aggressive commenters have been so awful lately. I appreciate the comments for the community and fandom fellowship, I hope the bad apples don’t ruin it.
Also, I think it’s so weird when people complain directly to an author about the book! Maybe it’s because I’m in the librarian area/former book blogger, but it’s just basic etiquette to not tag an author in a review, and emailing a bad review like that directly is just…so uncalled for!!
wont says
You are being way, way too diplomatic about the jerks who complained. I hope sincerely you can allow yourselves some rest time. Floor and dog issues are difficult enough with out whiny fans. After reading your response to the whiners, I immediately thought about Martha just before the big battle, when she kissed Conlan and told him she had to go and slap some bad people on their heads. It would be SO satisfying. Please rest, the book is wonderful.

Thanks anyway for all your work.

I just wanted you both to know how much I liked Magic Thriumps, I loved the series from beginning to end and of course I would have liked a longer epilogue, can’t ever have enough of Kate and Curran 🙂 but it was a fantastic book, HEA included. Thank you so much for writing this series, it was a joy to read it and I keep getting a smile in my face when I’m about to start reading one of your books.
KR says
I so wish I could go to DragonCon someday. It looks like a blast and all my favorite authors seem to go there.
Rest. Try to find your zen. I just spent months and months rearranging our lives with a pool refurbishing — Thanksgiving 2017-May 2018 — and my pool is now unusable due to some kind of pervasive issue with diatomaceous earth getting into the pool in largish quantities. My (new) pool man has been working his butt off to figure it out. I want to cry every time I look at what used to be my beautiful pool. *sigh* Zen. Gotta find it.
Anyway, Magic Triumphs was amazing from beginning to end. Well done!

WTH? Some people are ridiculous and entitled and possibly delusional. Ban away!!
Mousewynne says
I’m writing this to say THANK YOU for the entire KD series. I really enjoyed MT, I read it
twice in eformat then went and bought the dead tree book and reread it again. I truly enjoyed the elegance of your solution to “The Problem of Roland”.
Kate says
…I was thinking of preparing you a ‘Bitchin’ Chart’ to commemorate you re-opening the comments – as in, a parody of a flow chart helping people to decide whether they should post bitchy comments (ie ‘why ain’t tehr no Innkeeper?’) … but I’m lazy, it was too much effort, and I never got around to even trying to do it, so I hope that I simply had the thought in the first place is enough for you.
??
Congrats on the book release. ????????????
See, emoji balloons and sparklers are just so very much easier…
Kate says
As you do, with the thought in mind that no idea is ever truly original, I decided to try me luck web searching for a ‘flow chart on how to bitch’, which returned this as the 1st result:
https://funnyjunk.com/funny_pictures/3208159/Finding+a+bitch+flow+chart/
…which has only left me feeling depressed about the state of men and the world in general.
Only have myself to blame. Should’ve known better.
At least it wasn’t porn.
Sharon A says
I thought it was very kind of you to leave Roland somewhere with lots of books!!!
(Loved the book!)
Ali says
YES! I agree, so nice for Roland to have that one of a kind library! But what if he finds a book that gives him the knowledge of how to escape?!?! EEK!
Maura says
I loved Magic Triumphs I thought it was perfect! I hope some day you’ll get to Julie’s trilogy! Sorry about your pupper hopefully he’s feeling better soon!

Thank you for the updates, rest if you can. I personally loved the entire series. I await more stories from you as time goes on. I know that you cannot please all of the people all of the time so I say please yourselves.
Fan in California says
I am waiting for the paperback edition (hey, it matches all the rest if the books!!) but I know I will love it.
Glad the book tour went well — if exhausting. Hope the floor and doggie concerns are soon cleared. And welcome back!! I love your posts — your great sense of humor always shines through.
Take care, please!!!!
Rhonda says
I loved the book. I knew that Kate and Curran would get their HEA but I was not expecting the twists in the story line to get there. I am not surprised that there will be other books and novellas in the Kate Daniels series (yes, I will buy).
I was horrified to read that people were being ugly about no Innkeeper while you were on tour. I wasn’t surprised there wasn’t an entry. I’m not saying I didn’t check.
I’m looking forward to meeting the two of you at Murder by Book on the 28th.
Pam says
Thanks so much for clearing things up in the FAQ. When I saw the negative fan comments on the blog, all I could think of was “Get a life, or write your own book!” I’m amazed at all you do and provide. I hope you get a good break, re energize, and a good new floor. Wish you all the best, and THANKS!
Lynn T. says
Thank you, Ilona Andrews. I did not expect an Innkeeper segment as you were on tour. I do apologize to you both for the shortsightedness of people who are incapable of thought. Makes me hope that they do not have life critical or USA integrity critical jobs. I enjoyed Brandi’s updates.
My advice is take a mini vacation at home. I know pup is enduring medical care and the floor is MIA so going away is not practical option. Plus there is tropical storm Gordon’s rain, wind etc to be dealt with. But you both have undergone a stressing contractual time and need to recoup from that. All work and no play makes for a dull human.
Dealing with airport security can be ulcer producing stress. I have a cousin who is a pilot and there are some people who are just brainless. Then there are the people who freak out in flight who are just fine on terra firma. So the fact you did not have any bad for you airplane adventures is a blessing in disguise.
Whenever you get to Innkeeper, will be fine. My pup and I will wait patiently. Besides he brought home a 5 week old black kitten last week. I thought it was a rag he was toting so proudly dangling from his mouth until it went meow. Kitten was not hurt in any way and is fine. Vet thought it was hilarious that my lethal neutered male pup brought home a kitten and is insisting on caring for. [Well, it has been a running joke with my vet over last 12 years that I bring him the most interesting cases. He still teases me about going to my step grandfather’s funeral with baby wild life tucked in my black skirt pockets that I was bottle feeding every few hours. Yes i am still on the not to be spoken to or acknowledged list with his daughter but his sons thought normal for me. ] anyway, i just wanted to say welcome b ack, glad you had a fun time at dragon con, and rest a bit before you take up writing mantle again. Besides your typist needs a break too.
Heather says
Thank you for an amazi bff journey with Kate. It’s been a he’ll of a ride. You deserve time off to deal with the everything that needs to be delt with. I hope, when you feel up to it, we will get more about the other characters, like Hugh and Julie and Derek. Maybe an anticdote about raising changling babies. Be it chapters, novels, ebooks or blurbs, we will be happy to have them. But only if and when you are ready to do so.
Ali says
OOH! Conlan stories! Baby Conlan scenes were some of my favorites!
Sarah G says
Firstly I hope Sookie recovers quickly, poor baby! Secondly congrats on hitting the big lists with MT, well deserved accolades!
I’m glad you enjoyed meeting fans on tour but travelling is exhausting so I hope you’re going to take a break now and just relax and get your mojo back! I love the idea of a Barabas & Christopher novella (& any other stories you intend to write in this world!) but totally get the need to take a break from it so will happily wait as long as needed before you write it.
I am so so sorry that so many stupid idiots were hassling you about innkeeper (or anything else!). People suck and I’m glad you’re going to be heavy handed with the ban hammer, you don’t have to put up with crap from your fans! Happily the majority of us aren’t arseholes and we love you guys and appreciate everything you do!
Thank you again & I hope you enjoy a well earned break now 🙂
Linda says
Loved the final book!!! Very satisfying – gave me the endorphins. 🙂 I’m looking forward to reading Julie, whenever she comes! Also, I was a Hugh hater – didn’t know how you were going to manage to make him the lead in a book – but after your last two books, I can’t wait for the rest of his trilogy.
Have to say Thank You for the hours and hours of reading pleasure you give me (us). Life can be difficult sometimes, but I can always count on your books to satisfy and entertain, even if I’m in one of those almost-unsatisfiable moods. The plots are brilliant, but it’s really the characters – I love spending time with them.
Frankly, I don’t know how you do it. If I had all the stuff crop up that you do, I would be far less productive. Thank you again for working so hard!
Catherine says
Honestly, I loved Kate’s last book, I love anything you guys write. Your one of my authors that I automatically pre-order.
I enjoy the Sweeps installments and I’m very grateful that ya’ll give out free fiction. But I won’t be upset if you guys decide to stop doing it. Because I understand if you don’t want to deal with the idiots, ungrateful jerks and selfish a’’holes who don’t get that this is a gift from you to us. So if I have to wait to pre-order my next Sweep story in its entirety, I’m cool with it.
Life is to short to have to deal with crap you don’t have to.
You guys are great, just keep doing what you do, I love your work and will continue the journey with you.

I’m late to the party here, but I loved the book. It was time for Kate’s story to wrap up and y’all did it well. Thank You! As for the rattlers, I heard there is a vaccine that wlll minimize a dog’s reaction to a bite… not the anti-venin but a vaccine given before a bite.

I loved everything about the book and the series. My mind is running wild with the Adventures of Julie and Erra [because, oh my god, can you imagine the mischief and murder (justified, most likely) they’d get up to? I can seem them arguing legal semantics while fighting their way out of some poor highway robbers]. I didn’t realize you were planning a future trilogy for Julie, but count me in for pre-pre-ordering everything. I hope you are able to get some rest after that crazy book tour!
Ana María says
I re-read all the Kate books, and related novellas and stories while waiting for Hugh and Magic Triumphs. I know many of us did the same. I enjoyed them even more the second time around. My husband would hear me laugh while reading, and ask, “reading Kate again?”
My work is so stressful. I love it, but it truly is heartbreaking sometimes, and I work many hours, and weekends. I love to read, and read many genres, but anything you write, makes me happy. Thank you.

Well said! 🙂

I’m so glad you’re back home, just sorry it’s to floor chaos and a sick dog, poor little one.
I loved Magic Triumphs, it was utterly brilliant, and yes, Kate and Curran did deserve their HEA.
I was appalled and angered to read the email about people complaining to, and attacking Brandi.
How dare they! I get that people are invested in the series, but it’s YOUR series, and you’ve taken us on a wonderful ride. I also know there will be more brilliance ahead.
As for Innkeeper, it’s a gift! A wonderful, incredibly generous gift, and something I look forward to. As with any lovely gift, it should be received with gratitude and joy. What is wrong with people that they feel this sense of entitlement? Emailing you and posting comments that are demanding and negative. If you don’t like it, move right along and let those of us who love your work and appreciate your generosity enjoy the privilege!
I actually left another authors FB group due to people complaining about the series story arc, that felt they had the right to dictate to the author which way they believed the story should go, much the same as what’s gone on here. It’s outrageous.
I am sure I am in the majority that appreciate your hard work, and generosity. Thank you for the honour of reading your work, and your kindness in giving us Innkeeper. xxxxx
Roswita says
Personally, I loved the book and have read it twice already. You guys are awesome and I am a fan for life. Whatever you publish next will be readily devoured by me, and I hope to make it down to see you sometime during a tour so that I can tell you in person. I’m sending a big healing hug to Sookie!
Cherylanne farley says
Dearest authorities. After 40 years of marriage my husband suddenly died. He was a charming talented star and I was the happy bluestocking introvert. I was stunned all the hateful jealous people who came out of the walls to be mean to me. I learned all about passive aggressive. Rest heal all around let the haters make you greater. Thanks always.
kommiesmom says
So sorry about your husband. It’s a very lonely grieving, I’ve found.
Be well.
Char says
I am sorry for your loss. Jealousy is a hard and nasty thing when people give into it. I hope you are following a lot of the advice found here on the blog. Rest, relax, think good thoughts of your loved one, try to spend your time with people you love.

Thank you for everything you do for us. I am so grateful!

Welcome home. Congrats on the NYT Best Seller list! Take some time, take some naps, we’d really like the next story but not at the cost of your health. Your story list sounds kind of like my yarn stash… So many projects, so little time… I have enough projects for the next 3 lifetimes… 🙂 too bad I can’t carry it over.
Susan Linch Ravan says
Congrats on the best seller lists! As for the entitled jerks, just remember, some people hate fresh air and sunshine and were probably raised by trolls. Go put your feet up, love on Sookie and just be.

Is Lyme a thing down there? Lots of critters here in New England get it.

Loved the book. The scene with Raphael and the cider was sufficient for Ascencio. I’m sure he’ll be around in other stories.
I’m looking forward to anything else you care to write – and will buy most of it as soon as it comes available for my Kindle. There are limits to how much shelf space I have, after all.
Jennifer says
Thank you, thank you, thank you for all you do for your readers. I hope you take some well-deserved rest and rejuvenation time for yourselves. I also hope your sweet dog heals quickly, and the new floor install goes smoothly.
I enjoyed Magic Triumphs, and I do like how you ended the series. Awesome job, y’all!
Elana Rubin says
I for one greatly enjoyed the book, Kate had come into her powers, sure she has more to learn but she was able to use everything she had seamlessly. I would have liked the story to involve Curran more but i get that he could foresee the possible outcome between Kate and her Dad and take steps to prevent that if possible. I for one got a feeling of satisfaction at the end of the book unlike the last book of Jeaniene Frost’s Cat and Bones series it didnt feel right to me.
Jim is iffy hes burnt a lot of bridges because of how he treated Kate, all the years he knew her but it was as if he never really knew her at all. Also wasn’t keen on how he tried to swindle Curran out of what he was owed, just because he was able to turn the lemon into lemonade that says what type of leader he is.
Now about the floor, i think this is an opportunity if I remember correctly you weren’t happy with how the floors came out before so now you get a do over.
Ok my two cents, i had been waiting years for this book, I wasn’t disappointed. 🙂
Marsha says
My husband and I saw you in Dallas and it was wonderful. We are both still laughing about you covering Gordon’s mouth before he could answer the question about what Elara is. He said to tell you that you seem to have been very “diplomatic ” about someone berating Brandi when he knows you were probably planning where to dispose of the evidence. We love your books and are listening to the audios every evening. I went ahead and read MT first because he needed to catch up with Hugh’s book (shhhhh don’t tell). BTW I love Charlaine Harris too.
Camille Campbell says
Although I was sad to see an end to Kate’s story, I have and will continue to read and re-read all of your books. You have an amazing talent and I am so glad you have chosen to share it. ?

+ 100 here, too! Also, please rest and stay happy and safe. I hate it when fans rush authors. 1) Who do they think they are? and 2) How good is a book written under extreme pressure and stress going to be?
Catherine Jett says
+100. Complainers will NOT be missed 🙂 You guys are doing an awesome job, and deserve your time to decompress, ignoring the fact that your floor is in tatters, dog is ill, all else in life – sure, you get to decompress! LOL

Loved the book…!! It was a very satisfying story arc. I love the whole series especially as I feel like I’ve watched Kate grown into the person she was meant to be. Looking forward to Julie’s turn ? And once again thank you so much for the series, I see myself re-reading it again and again and again.. ?
Cee says
You two are the bomb. Your books have never given me anything to grouse about and I am sure the last Kate book won’t either. (I preordered but it but I am saving it for when I have time to savor it.)
Carry on and I will continue to buy whatever you decide to publish.
Bev Hill says
So glad you are home and “only” dealing with domestic crises ? I was stunned to read that someone (s) complained about not getting a free chapter. Sigh. Someone always has to try to ruin a good thing. Thank you for your generosity and forbearance for the less-evolved. (I’m assuming they were not blasted by magical lightning…) Finally, thanks for trying to address lingering questions. I read some of the reviews that pointed out unresolved or lightly addressed issues. My take on the magnificence that is MT is that it ended with lots of wonderful tendrils of Magic which I assumed would lead to lovely new stories in the (perhaps far) future. Glad to see I was right ? Love you guys! Thanks for Every Little Word ❤️
Rebecca says
I agree with Bev, I was amazed that anyone would have the gall to complain that they weren’t getting their FREE fiction fast enough. You are slower to the ban hammer than I would have been!
It is cold comfort, but I look at it as if you are Catalina. Some readers love you SO much that they try to tear off little pieces of you every chance they get.
Nina says
Haha, I love that comparison! However the complainers don’t actually have the excuse of being enchanted. It’s statistically to be expected for authors this popular to also attract entitled fans buuuuut… I would still judge and shake my head over each and every complainer if I knew who they were. It’s just so rude, entitled and short-sighted.
Kaya says
The complaining just shows a lack of understanding. When you sign up with a publisher, you’re required to produce a certain amount in a certain time frame and you’re required to go to certain events, tours have to be so long etc. It’s literally written in and not doing it, that’s not an option. Writing a book is not easy, sometimes you can go days without writing anything because it’s just not quite there yet or you write something and have to completely rewrite because it just didn’t work.
I think that it’s incredibly brave to post the Innkeeper in blog format first because many of the pieces are unedited. As fans we get to see the raw unedited work of a beloved Author. Most of the time we’re seeing work that has been sifted through and rewritten and polished.
As a blog posted story, it’s not part of a contractual obligation. They are doing it as a favor to the fans to create a connection, to engage, to give us a little bit of something we love every week. It is not a requirement, like writing a certain number of books, a certain length, so many per year.
They have the option of making us all wait for Innkeeper until it’s finished so probably something to bear in mind before you complain, you could be waiting a year or more in between books.
CharisN says
Ooo good one!
Patricia Schlorke says
Thank you for coming to Dallas and signing all our books. ? Both of you are so gracious with your writing.
When I read that Brandi was being attacked by ungrateful people, I was outraged. Brandi should be off limits to that behavior. She does a wonderful job in keeping all of us informed.
Also, to those who complained about not having an Innkeeper story this week: 1) stop complaining…you will ruin it for the rest of us; 2) it’s not your story! Ilona and Gordon are being so gracious to do this when they can; and 3) you are not the boss of them.
Ilona and Gordon: if you do decide to do a Luther story in the distant future, my offer of statistics help is open. ?
Nina says
A Luther story…. with statistics? Love!

Thank you for writing a great series! It’s exceedingly rare to find a series where I’ve enjoyed every single book. I thought that the finale was very well done. Yes, it was sad that certain characters died, but it would have been very unbelievable had everyone survived the final conflict. I’m looking forward to whatever you write next and eagerly anticipate the next Innkeeper. Hope you can enjoy the book tour and take some rest where you can. Congratulations on being the top new book on the NYT list!
DeeAnn Fuchs says
I loved the book! I read Magic Binds again before I read Magic triumphs and in one part you had Kate tell Christopher the story about the enchanted apples and that she made a great apple jam out of them. We have apple trees and I was trying to figure out what to do with our over abundance this year. I’ve already canned apple pie filling, made apple pies, muffins and dehydrated a ton. So when I read that, I tried apple jam (with lemon juice). I liked it so much that I made two batches. Thanks for the books (all of them) and thanks for the jam idea. I’d send you a jar but I know you won’t accept gifts. If you change your mind though, I’ve got lots!!
Julia says
The last book was just perfect, I really loved the way things ended up with Roland. I love him, I love all the shades of him. I was dreading this would be a book like all others involving tyranic parents where the main just kills it and goes on living. I love the fact that Kate had every reason to do it, but she chose to spare him even at the end, when she notices the ruby and do what she does. It felt so real, it made her more real and i simply loved it. You guys are the best, thanks and congratulations on the finale ♡

Glad you decided to give the moaners the boot. I don’t normally post comments. I appreciate the content and try to show that appreciation by visiting your site and buying your books.
It does grind me that there are people who feel entitled to free content no matter the circumstances you have going on. You are under no obligation to provide any free content – many authors I read don’t.
I’ve wondered if a few bad apples were going to leave such a bad taste in your mouth that you would decide SoB would be the last book you would post as a weekly series. Glad you went the route of tossing the bad apples.

Also i just wanted to ask you guys how you feel about kates series more or less ending? I wanted to email but noticed you took it down due to backlog lol. I also understand your beat from your tour but truly how do you feel? Is it like watching your kid grow and than move out? Any ache? Do i sound like a nutter ? lol anyways im just interested to see what your feeling. Cheers and try to take it easy.
Char says
Not a nutter! J. K. Rolling said she cried (a lot) over Harry Potter being finished. I wondered too if there were tears for the Author Lords due to (in no particular order), exhaustion, joy to be finished, missing a best friend, a 10 year job completed and no where to go ( not true, but there is some strange let down for me after a long task), too much neglected paperwork, the other stories trapped in your head that you had no time to write, etc.
Thank you both for the years of joy and happiness. If you write it I will buy it. The book was great!
Jamie says
It was amazing!
Annamal says
Thank you so much for the book, I don’t think any beloved series is going to have a series ender that works for everyone but yours made a damn good attempt.
I’m really sorry that people were rude and thoughtless, I really appreciate your work and am grateful for the truly staggering amount of it you put out.
Really hoping you guys have some time for a really long and satisfying break (maybe even let Inn keeper rest for a few months). You two are your own most valuable asset and selfishly I would like to see you continue to work for a long time which means not burning yourselves out in the short term.
Again thank you so much for your work, it got me through 35 kilometres of amazing scenery.
Jessica says
I loved the book! Obviously sad to see the series end, but it was so well written. Looking forward to reading anything you write in the future, whether in this universe or something new. Thank you for all the hard work you do. Hope you get a chance to relax after a hectic week.
Katy Baker-Smith says
Too fifth and sixth many people, thank you. Just thank you for an amazing series that has been the highlight of many hours for the past ten years!!! I have read and reread the series over and over always seeing something new. Thank you for kicking the asses to the curb. You give more of yourself than most. As a teacher I know that there are limits to the well of selflessness. Please refill, all of your true readers will wait patiently. I will preorder anything you publish the minute you announce it. Thank you for everything.
Lori W says
Glad you’re getting some time off. Also glad you’re at a zero tolerance! You work hard to provide wonderful entertainment, you should get some time off. Please, recuperate quickly because we are selfish and do miss the stories you create! We’ll be stalking the site for Christopher and Barabas!
Sarah says
All I want for Christmas is for you all to rest, rest, rest! Okay, it’s not Christmas, but as much as you all have spoiled us this year, it might as well be. I was lucky enough to get to go to your Lexington, KY event, and I am just grateful to have had that opportunity. I understand it is work and traveling is hard, especially if you have to be on a plane every day. I’m glad you all had some fun, and I am sorry some people felt entitled to be rude and unreasonable. I loved the book. I noticed you all left openings for stories with other characters and I am content to wait in the knowledge that the Magic/Kate Daniels universe has so much more potential.
DawnK says
Just a quick big thanks! Enjoyed the ride and will be a fan forever. Enjoy some R&R. I look forward to whatever’s next.
Anna Stanford says
Magic Triumphs was wonderful, but I am sad to see the series end. I hope you will continue to write about other characters in that world, though! Any chance you will give Conlan his own series when he’s a bit older?
To those who have the audacity to beat on poor Brandi because you feel entitled to free stuff, I say you deserve to be banned. Good riddance!
Any chance you will come to Southern California on tour? I live in hope.

You’ve earned a well deserved break, tours are ultimately exhausting! Completely gobsmacked that people were so rude, not sure when some readers started believing they had a say in how you spend your time. Hope the floor gets out in properly and quickly … wish I could say with little fuss but these thing never are!
Honoured to read your work when it’s available.

I haven’t read the older comments (coming up next) but wanted to thank you again for some of the most innovative fiction out there. I loved MT and suspect that will be true years from now – assuming of course that I am here to love MT. (I’m almost 70. Caveats are necessary.)
So sorry that stupid people added to your burden during the tour. Ban away. If I am ever so stupid as to do something similar, I expect to be banned, too.
Please pass along apologies to Brandi. We are all sorry that she had to deal with a fan that behaved so badly.
That said, congratulations on the best seller list rankings. Every kudo is well deserved.
Frances says
+1 Kommiesmom’s comments.
I too am almost 70 and realise caveats are necessary when I think about undertaking a long range commitment to a book series that may go on for decades. Having been a fan of the Lord of the Rings books for many decades I remember thinking when I walked out of the theatre at the end of The Fellowship of the Ring movie that I would be extremely annoyed if I didn’t live long enough to see The Return of the King ! Since then I have felt the same about the Hidden Legacy series and about Innkeeper as well as the Kate Daniels series.
I am somewhat puzzled that some readers are critical of Magic Triumphs. I thought our Authorlords did an excellent job including characters who were relevant to this story and avoided having characters make an appearance without any real reason. It’s a well written and entertaining read that completes the Kate vs Roland story arc in a logical and satisfactory fashion. This reader, for one, appreciates an author with the integrity and discipline to finish a series before the books have jumped the shark and become parodies of earlier entries in the series.
With good health and good fortune, Kommiesmom and I will still be here when we are almost 90 discussing the latest writing from our favourite Authorlords. I trust you wont take it as my being too demanding if I say that I hope Dina has found her parents before that day arrives.
Congratulations on a terrific finale to a great series. You deserve your success.
Becky Graf says
Thank you for a wonderful ending to an awesome series! I could never do all that you do….writing, touring, life-ing. It’s a privilege to see behind the author curtain and I appreciate you both so much! Feeling the need to explain that you are tired makes me so frustrated with people, but I hope you know most of your readers are just grateful for the joy and diversion from their own life trials! Take care of yourself and know your faithful readers appreciate all you do.
Ellen Z says
I’ve read the book 3x’s already. Great ending, the baby is a pip too.

What an amazing series! I have truly enjoyed reading and rereading Kate and the gang’s adventures. Just one quick question so I can have closer. Is Derek alright after the battle and happy? I loved the ending for all the other characters, but I found myself worrying about him.

Loved the book. No complaints from me.
Now on to the real problem. I don’t know if they don’t read your blog or look to find out why innkeeper didn’t come. I don’t even know if they are just a bunch of assholes who get off on our misery.
I do know that it can be frustrating to not have something on time. But here is what everyone would say if they had any balls to speak of.
YOU PUT YOUR ADULT PANTIES ON, AND SUCK IT UP PRINCESS!!! Because you don’t have a fucking big S on you shirt that tells everyone your special. Your just another human parasite on Earths backside. You don’t always get what you want, because life isn’t fair. Instead you get what is doled out to you. Sometimes it’s fucking fantastic. Others times you look like a walking, talking, skeleton, and could probably give Dexter a run for his money. When it comes to crazy, because of all the shit that was done to you. Because LIFE SUCKS!!!
jasmine scott says
Just in case people think that last part is to the authorlord’s.
IT’S NOT!!!

Just let us know when we should make the trip to Home Depot.

Again thank you for a magnificent series. In my old hometown when I was a sidehill gouger the rattlesnakes used to appear on our lawns in the mornings or evenings usually just after we watered them so they could get the moisture. Note, baby rattlesnakes may not have grown a rattle yet but they still have the fangs and poison. A bite from a baby rattler can still kill a child or pet. One year in late fall I rode my motorcycle over to visit a friend on the north side of town. He lived in a mobile home park and the land behind his unit was just sagebrush and bushes. Well the temperature dropped quite a bit while I was visiting. I rode home and when I got off my motorcyle a rattlesnake slithered out from under the seat and down onto the concrete of the carport. It had climbed up between the seat and the engine to get warm. I still don’t know how I wasn’t bitten. I dispatched the snake quickly as my next door neighbours had twin 6 year old boys that would have loved picking up a snake. You’d check your foot and hand holds if you were rock climbing and you’d go in the opposite direction if you heard them rattle.
Ann Rovetto says
Thank you for the book, I loved it. As far as people who complain I salute you for banning them. This is your life and other people don’t get to tell you what you need to do (unless you’re under contract to them of course). We are your readers, as hard as it is to do sometimes, we must wait until you write. That is just the way it works. There is no excuse for being rude to anyone, and those who are deserve what they get.
Looking forward to many more wonderful books from you.
Kathryn B says
I was so glad to reach the end of Kate’s arc with you all, and will certainly keep my fingers crossed for more continuations if they are ever in the stars! Thank you both so much for giving us this amazing, wonderful, complex world, that can stretch so far. I’m glad you’re back safely and wish you both the best of luck with the floor (eek) and the infection (poor Suki!). I hope you have swift and satisfactory resolutions to both. <3

Thank-you for the Kate Daniels series, my husband and I love them. I do hope that Brandi was not upset by some rude people. Brandi, you are a wonderful source of information for us, thank-you. I hope that everyone has some quiet, relaxing days. And, I hope the pup is up and running soon.
Omar Mtz says
I love the book and the series in general. It’s one of my all time reads and rereads.
I hope you guys get time to relax after the tour, it was impressive seeing Brandi’s schedule post of you guys and all of the things you did.
I had a similar problem with my kitchen floor, we still need to replace it, but are using a different person.
Rose Noe says
I loved the final book. I think it was wonderful – so freaking funny. I laughed so much. And I really expected to be so sad that it was all over now. But you’ve taken most of the sting away knowing that there are other planned books about Hugh and Roman and Julie. I’m really looking forward to the Barabas and Christopher novella. I love Kate. I think she’s in my top 2 or 3 all time favorite female characters. She is so tough and so smart, but I get to look forward to and enjoy books with characters that I also love (Roman – it will be fantastic to get more of his story and his family). And I suspect there will be little peeks at Kate and Curran and their children and extended family from time to time. So, instead of being sad about what’s finished, I am excited about the little hints you’ve given about what is coming in the future. It’s all good. As for the Innkeeper book that you have been posting, the only thing I have to say is that I have been loving Maud’s story. I enjoy every post whenever it is posted, and I look forward to when it is published in a hard copy so that I can read it all again in one sitting as I have done with the last three Innkeeper books. Kudos to you for them all.
Beth says
What a wonderful book! I don’t understand the complaints and nitpicking. It’s your story to tell.
Thanks for enjoyment you’ve given me over the years and the knowledge there’s more to come.
Leanne Ridley says
1) Thank you for a wonderful finale to Kate’s main story (best thing that could have happened to Roland), and I eagerly await all of the spin-off stories for beloved characters from Kate’s world. I wonder how Conlan will develop…?
2) You’ve been working your tailfeathers off on this tour, so just kick back and relax a bit before diving into the daily grind again. It’s a damn shame that your floor turned out to be a dud, but I think your decision to get the work remediated by a different contractor is wise. I don’t know if you have the equivalent of small claims court in the States, but you may want to check into the possibility of suing the company AND the principal owner(s) on a “jointly and severally” basis to recoup the costs of fixing their screw-up plus court costs and any other remedies you can think of. At minimum, you could report them to the Better Business Bureau so that others may avoid being burned. It just makes me squirm with distaste to think of a disreputable contractor getting away with BS.
3) When I read that some mother’s mistakes had the utter gall to whine and snivel about not getting another Innkeeper installment when you were fulfilling your contractual obligations, AND they sunk so low as to abuse Brandi, I wished for Kate to manifest and teach them a salient lesson using Sarrat to make her point (but using the flat of the blade so they’d survive to suffer). If they have been banned, then good riddance to bad rubbish.
Time for you both to enjoy a good pot of English Breakfast tea and some currant-filled potato scones with blackberry jelly 🙂

Addendum: I’m sorry your poor Sookie is hurting so. Here’s wishing her a speedy recovery.

I too do not understand the people who only want more of free stuff. They give the rest of the BDH a very bad name. For me I was glad that Roland did not die. That was the most satisfying thing in the ending. Although Erra was a real surprise. Thank you and I hope the complainers go bother some other author.
Ronda says
Thank you for the series finale. It was spectacular and exceeded all my expectations!
Also, yes yes yes!! Ban the asswipes. Not only for Brandi’s sake, but I absolutely hate seeing their entitled bitching, too.
Good luck on the floors. That really sucks.
Wave Seybold says
Take a break and relax, keep your zen. I’ve loved the Kate books, and I’m sorry to see it end, but to all good things….and I will just reread them. The thing with your floor does really suck, but you will get it fixed, keep the zen going. Inn keeper, I love your Inn keeper and I don’t read it every week. I like to wait awhile so I have a lot to read and that makes me happy. I hope your dog gets better soon, it’s hard when they are in pain and you can’t make it better. I’m looking forward to your next book and would like to make it to one of your book tours. Look at some yarn instead of the floor, Thank you for your books.

This is my first time leaving a comment but I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate what you guys write! I absolutely love Kate Daniels (been following it pretty much since the beginning) and read all your other stuff too. You’re one of the few authors I actually buy new books from! I’m very grateful for any free stories you decide to post and I’m hoping you can ignore the people who complain… I guess some people feel entitled and (sadly) a lot of people just don’t think. You guys have been way more patient than I would have been.
Congrats on your success and keep up the fantastic work – I’m looking forward to your future stories!
All the best,

Glad all went well on your tour and that you made it home safely.
I just wanted to say to those who complained while you were away “if you do not have something nice to say, say nothing at all”, and “one rotten apple can spoil the whole barrel”. Sayings that were old when my mother taught them to me, and we should all still practice today.
Marianne says
I am amazed, but very thankful, that you took the time to post this. If I were in your shoes I think I would be soaking in a hot bath, then collapsing in bed for an extended, and hopefully rejuvenating, sleep! Thank you for always being so generous with your fans, even when faced with whining and selfish complaints. You have been more than patient, and I am glad you will be banning the complainers. I just wish you never had to be subjected to them at all. Hopefully this will result in less of it! ? I hope Sookie’s infection clears up quickly and completely!!! I also hope you take time to simply rest. I don’t know how you managed everything you have this year, but you must be at the end of your energy reserves- as well as the end of your incredible patience. Thank you for all your hard work and generosity!! It is greatly appreciated by myself and most other of your fans that have a lick of sense. ?

Guys, I loved the book, thank you so, so much. It was perfect and I read it as slowly as I could to savour it.
Thank you for your zero tolerance policy about rude comments as well. I love when you write things and I love when you need a break from writing. Congratulations on the success of your books! It’s well-deserved.
Faltrix says
I think the final book was excellent. I really enjoyed it.
As for people who complain about free stuff, I’m surprised they are smart enough to breath and read at the same time. I say we cull them now, hopefully before they breed, the genepool has enough problems as it is… What can I say? I like a bit violence in my books.
Besides we don’t just get free stuff around here, we get cool, free stuff around here!
Bill G says
I thought the book was great. I hope you’re resting from the tour. Take care, and ban fools when needed.
Carmela Stotts says
I’d gotten up at 4am on the 28th to check on a older fur baby, and peeked in my Kindle to see if it was in… And there went my day! It was wonderful! Thank you for 11 years of laughter, tears, and great adventures.
I will miss them.
Gretchen says
Thank you so much for the excellent final Kate book, and for giving us some faqs. Most authors wouldn’t do that. And thank you for communicating with us even when some people are jerks. I know how good if feels to come home after you’ve traveled, even if you had a good time, so enjoy and rest up, you’ve earned it.
Kristin says
I can only imagine how exhausting all of this has been. That said, I just wanted to thank you both for such an amazing end to the story arc. I join the many that are 100% (can I say 200% because that really is a better representation) satisfied. Am I sad…. yes. Did I expect to be….yes, my favorite character of all time’s story arc came to completion. But wow, was it a perfect completion. I enjoyed every second of the book!
Please enjoy your downtime. Please take the time to rest and recover. It is well deserved!
Sage says
It was time for an end.. every series has to end or it gets stale. I am happy you have fun writing, and I hope it never becomes a chore or curse. That is the worst thing that comes with being a writer.

+1
Carol says
I really agree with this! The book was great and I remember something you said a while back, that Kat and Curran Ave earned their happily ever after! And Conlan is so sweet and funny it’s just awesomeness!
Rest – rejuvenate – and enjoy being seen! ?
Carol says
That was supposed to be sent. I totally remember typing that in! LOL
Carol says
I give up! Hahaha!
Susan Tobin says
Thank you both for Magic Triumphs. I loved the maturity of the characters, the flow of the story and for me this is a neat bow tied around the complexities of Kate and Curran, two of my favourite characters ever.
I have been gasping for more Inkeeper and thank you once again for not only a great story and wonderfully complete characters, but also for doing it as a freebie:)
Susan B. says
Ohhhh, Yes!!!
Kathryn says
People complained to Brandi about the lack of an Innkeeper episode??? You’ll have to give me a moment, because that is insane. On behalf of all the readers who love and adore you and understand that you were on tour, I apologize.
I loved “Magic Triumphs”!!! Actually, I have already reread the book twice. I like how you handled Ascanio and his increasing responsibilities as a bouda. It’s nice that he has turned into such a wonderful young man, and will definitely be alpha male of the boudas some day.
I was blown away with your solution to the Roland situation. It was obvious that Kate didn’t want to kill her dad, though if push came to shove, she would. This way, Roland has a chance to hopefully grow a little. Maybe lose some of his world-conquering habits?
Please take time to recover and enjoy life. You earned it. That being said, I do await the next book with excitement. Just don’t kill yourselves, hurt your hands, … to write it. Some things are more important.
Saira says
+1 I couldn’t have said it better.
Susan B. says
I agree with Saira. Kathryn says it most excellently!
Emily says
+1 – I was horrified when I read the email with people complaining about no innkeeper, what they think you guys are robots who can just keep going? Rest up the BDH will willingly wait ?

Sorry to hear about Sookie, I hope she recovers quickly.
I like the ban idea. I am not sure why consideration for others is becoming rare, but there should be consequences.
And, while I would love more Maud, why not take a break from everything through the end of September? That would give you a good chuck of time for your fingers and spirit to rest and heal.
Thanks for a great series!!!
Mel says
This is the first series that I have re-read in its entirety from book 1, and let me just say thank you for bringing us the world of Kate Daniels.
I, like the thousand, millions out there, would love to hear more of the characters, may it be a spin-off or novellas (Conlan? Baby B? 🙂 )
But I agree that you take a rest, and celebrate the end of this wonderful series.
We’ll be here patiently waiting for the next books that you will write.
Margaret R says
I completely agree with this comment. Stop letting a handful of Bitter Bettys bring you down. You guys are awesome! If we don’t get new Innkeeper until you’re ready to write it again then so be it. Rest, relax, take care of life and your hands. Cheers!
Jessica anderson says
Thank for the answers hope your floors get done right and your dog gets better
Sarah says
I loved the book. I have loved every book in the series and I thought your solution to Roland was perfect! Kate and her family still get to have a relationship with her dad – I felt ill at the thought that she’d have to kill or box up her dad in a way that cut him from her life completely. He loves her, and just like all parental relationships, he really was doing the best he was capable of. Family. It’s complicated.
I’m sorry people were jerks.
I hope Sookie gets better quickly .
Thank you for being awesome and being you.
Stephanie says
I loved, loved the final book. I read it twice back to back lol which my husband thought was weird. I had to keep explaining it was the final. I will love any novella’s in kate’s world you deem to allow us!! We are worthy!! lol I despise the haters too and am so happy you ban them!! Feeling like Martha here. lol and last note, poor puppy!! Hope Sookie gets better soon!!
Renee Sweet says
Thanks so much for these answers! And thank you so, so much for all that you do for us. Your books have brought great joy to my life. I am always amazed at and grateful for all the time you put into free stories and the Innkeeper books for us. I’m sorry there are other readers who feel entitled to them. You always seem to have so much pressure – I hate to think that readers are the source of that or are contributing to it. All I can say is thank you, thank you, thank you! You guys are the best and Magic Triumphs was a wonderful ending to the Kate and Curran arc. xoxo
Sarani says
Did you take a minute to revel in the massive achievement that was a _successful_ ten-book series? You earned it. It was glorious, and I’m only just coming off the high. And I inhaled that book cover to digital cover the day it was released.
Part of me looks at how that ended and think, well, maybe we will have some quiet Cutting Edge Investigation stories. You guys don’t do typical procedurals, but I think you *could*. Procedural + mom-life + magic = win. That’s for someday, though, and a change in direction that may or may not feel different enough to not be as much work?
So I just bought Destiny 2 and have been murdering everything in sight, and it made me wish for you to have a few dozen hours of downtime for yarn or murder or what have you 🙂
Nona says
The book was wonderful conclusion to a magnificent series. Do not let anyone tell you different – everyone has an opinion but I never understood complaining to people who are trying to give you enjoyment. As to Innkeeper –
it is almost like crack! Seriously! But to DEMAND installments? Wow – just Wow! I have enjoyed and purchased everything of your writing I can get my hands on and probably always will. Thank you for tons of enjoyment
Susie says
I loved the book! This is a world you both have created in your minds, if anyone else tried to write it or dictate what happened, it wouldn’t be your world. And it was a fabulous ride. Thank you both so much.
Hope you get some rest after the tour, cause that sounded exhausting.
Nina says
I love this books so much!
I loved Kate and Curran in this book. I’m sorry I live in Europe and could’n see you.
I am a little sad for Derek, Julie decided to leave… I hope they will be together in the end.
Cynthia says
Enjoyed the family unit interaction on Magic Triumph!
Great solution for Dad (Roland). But I have to tell you that Conlan stole the show so to speak! Adorable!!!!
You did good pulling together as many characters as
you did into this final book! I mean, how many years have you guys been writing this series? How many characters have you added during that time? If you’re ready to wrap it up and move on, to concentrate on your more recent series, more power to you. I love your newer ones.
I have to admit though, that for me between the last two books, Iron and Magic was the best for me. I’ve re-read that the most. I will also admit that the narrators voice has a lot to do with that! That was a brilliant move on y’all choice of narrator!
P.S. Looking forward to the next Innkeeper installment!
Chris. says
First, I can’t even imagine the extent of thoughtless abuse that Ilona, Gordon,
Brandy, et al, receive on a daily basis, and still want to continue to blog and give us FREE stories. Why can’t Slime disguised as comments and emails come in Slime-Colored print so it can just be disposed of before robbing the receiver
of valuable time and emotion? Maybe someone could write an anti-slime program that could deliver all that foul disease-spreading rot straight to the Slime Box like the Spam Box.
Second, When I read that the focus is shifting from the main characters we’ve all come to love, to other characters, I get exited to go down a new path in the same familiar environment. Think of how George and Jack and Gaston left “The Edge” and came to “The Innkeeper” and how our wonderful Maud Arland and Helen have taken the adventure down a whole new path.
We loved the three tangential Kat Daniels books with Dali and Jim, Raffael and Andrea, and Julie and Derek, even though Kate wasn’t there running the show. Book #9 ended with the witches mentioning the White Warlock. And now Kate’s story is morphing into the Iron Covenant and more. Roman, for example, is a hilarious character and I’d love to read his raked-over-the-hot-coals-of-love story.
I’m looking forward to reading Nevada’s siblings’ stories in the familiar surroundings of Hidden Legacy.
I trust the ALs to entertain me with whatever they want to write, and will wait patiently until they feel like writing it.
Please join me in thanking them for all they do to enrich our lives and let them know it’s OK to take the weekend off without the pressure of posting on Friday.
We’ll all still be here when they are ready.
Congratulations on the best selling lists!
We are not surprised. ?? ❣️ ?
Lee says
You said it beautifully, Chris. Thanks for expressing my feelings better than I ever could.
And thanks, Ilona & Gordon, for creating such amazing worlds, peopling them with such realistic characters, and allowing us to share all their incredible adventures!

I like to think that if anyone could figure out how to separate the dragon Magic from their own,it’s Roland. It may take a thousands of years and it would like moving a beach one grain of sand at a time. But I think he’d be able to get himself out of this predicament. Slowly siphoning the dragons magic into a vessel outside of himself. So that he can then be the captain of the ship. He just seems like the type of character that would never stop trying.
Madita says
Thank you Ilona Andrews for all your hard work and sharing your stories!
I would like to comment on the complains, demands or unkind messages. It is not my intention to make apologies for anybody and I do not approve of such messages.
However, I also do not approve of unkind comments towards these people. Hating a hater just makes another hater.
Also, I must say that I do understand how these messages came to be: Reading a good book creates emotion. Not everybody is good at dealing with high emotions, mostly because nobody taught them how. Banning them, if it gets too much is fair. But they probably don‘t understand the implications of their emotional reactions and don‘t represent the bulk of the readers.

MAGNIFICENT!!!!! OUT OF THIS WORLD FANTASTIC!!!!Thank you for the best series finale ever, or ever will be, written! Can you tell I just got it from the library and devoured thisbook?! Thank you!

My mom and I both loved “Magic Triumphs.” Mom was late coming over one day last week because she couldn’t put the book down. Thanks for your work — we’ve bonded so much over at least three of your series, and the wealth of Kate Daniels-verse stuff is a gift.
Travis says
Ban ’em! Hope the dog is okay. Keep giving us free stuff, please!
Lynne Binkley says
Congratulations on the placement in the best seller list. Hopefully, it moves on to #1 !! I have Triumphs on my Kindle but haven’t read it yet. Starting over (again) from Book 1. Loved this series!! Love Innkeepers. Love everything you write!! You are fantastic writers….great dialogue, great world building, just great! Thanks for sharing all you do. Ban the ungrateful and insensitive! They won’t appreciate anything you do. Hope you get some good rest, hope the pup gets better soon, hope the floor get repaired and is beautiful ………….. best wishes and thanks so much for everything.

Thank you for your hard work on an amazing series. ❤❤❤
I’m glad that you will be doing more stuff later for the other characters to give closure. Ending a long series that have acumilated many loveable characters with their own depth and stories is hard. I will be patiently waiting for you guys to relax and enjoy your well deserved sucess.
I have fun recharging yourself while I reread the books and go destract myself with other things!

Just need to say that I have read a lot of series, particularly trilogy’s. Most run #1 book is terrific – #2 book is good – #3 book is so bad it made me wish I had never read #1. It got so bad that I just stopped reading series – I couldn’t take it. (C.J. Cherryh was an exception) Anyway Magic Triumphs is the best – the very best finale book – maybe because it doesn’t wrap every single thing up in a bow. I don’t know why but its the first finale that I have read over and over again that feels true to the whole series. Thank you so very much.
CharisN says
Sergeant Gordon never did like the floor anyway did he?

As a fellow dog (/pet) owner and fellow money pit, I mean HOME, owner, I am so sorry about your pup and your floor. Best wishes to you with regards to both. Loved the Maud snippet, and will wait – patiently – for more, whenever you feel up to it, whenever that may be.

I’m down with your level of tolerance. It’s been over a year of explaining & you’re still polite.
Welcome back, welcome home, sit down, relax, order yor comfort, breathe.
I’m hoarding your books, got em, haven’t read them. This way i’ve got something to enjoy.
Good to hear about Julie, i will enjoy her development. Looking forward to what your mind produces for novellas etc.
I appreciate your communication with us. I sorrow for those who take that to mean that your writing is not separate from your communication. The writer writes, i appreciate your writing. Thank you.

Loved magic Triumphs!
And as a grandma that just sat through my grandson’s tantrum (in his carseat!), the thought that I was listening to the “sad song of his people” made it much easier to endure 🙂
Thank you!!!!

Just wanted to say I thought the way you dealt with Kate’s Dad was inspired.
Trapped and Kate didn’t have to kill him. I also liked the way you intertwined Hugh’s and Kate’s books. I’ve been bouncing back and forth between them and picking up new details everytime.
Thank you!
Nicole Babyak says
Thank you for thsee updates, and I loved the book! It (obviously) made me sad because of some of the deaths, and I can’t wait to read more about the Pack and other characters.
However…Derek is okay, right? I’ve reread the battle scene a few times, and I can’t tell if he made it!!!! I think he did, but I’m not sure, and I can’t imagine a world without Derek! ?
Also…anyone complaining and/or being snarky about Innkeeper or anything you guys post BLOWS MY MIND. What are they thinking? Don’t they understand how wrong that is?
Lastly, THANK YOU for a wonderful series and HEA for Kate and Curran. I laughed out loud during parts of their last book, and can’t wait to get more glimpses of their lives in other books. Oh, and I’m super happy you reopened your blog comments, too. ?

I said it before. B did a great job keeping us up to date on your tour. I really like her writing style and how upbeat and motivating it is. She has a solid, unique voice. That said. How are your hands? I hope you were able to rest and sooth them on the tour p. Your hordes are hungry, but can march and stand inspection first.

I finished it today and really enjoyed the wrap up to Kate and Curran’s arc. I like the set up for Julie’s stories and am looking forward to reading the second Hugh and Elara story that lead them up to this book.
Janessa says
Oh gosh, I am so sad that this is the end of the series. It’s like the last scene of LOTR where Frodo left for the Undying Lands and I’m the one on the shore waving goodbye.
I decided to savour slowly, absorbing evey word written rather than devour MT and it was an Experience. Every word, moment and scene was perfect and not wasted. It was so intimate because the jokes, the interactions between beloved characters, only those who read the series will understand them having been voyeurs of their lives throughout the series.
I laughed and cried and laugh cried. My fiance was subjected to me pointing out every details that stood out for me. I love Kate as a mother. I wished there could be more scenes with Curran being a Dad. I love how they have to deal with regular stuff regular people go through (laughed like mad over the phone call issue and my heart broke for Dali but I’m glad there is a solution) while dealing with a death or life crisis.
I love how Curran and Kate have grown as a couple. They understand the choices that both of them had to make to save each other despite not liking what the other did. Rather than argue about it, they accepted it as being who each other were and instead chose to be kind and loving.
There is so much more to say but I shall end it off here cos I have an appointment with Sunshine Realty to see if there is a house for sale in near the Lennarts.
Kat says
So I’m kind of late to the party so to speak but I find myself wondering something about Kate based on Conlan. In Magic Triumphs, Conlan can form blood claws without really any trouble. I’m curious if Kate did similar things around Voron but ultimately stopped trying different things because he told her to hide?
Also, thank you for your books. They are always very much appreciated by me and my husband. We actually, when we first started dating, would read your books on skype calls because we were still dating long distance at that point and they are some of my fondest memories, reading and reacting to your books with my husband over Skype lol.
Barbara K says
I’m always late reading, but I wanted to tell you, I love everything y’all write. I sit and wait for the next book to be released. Yes, I cried like a baby during several parts and at the very end because it was over! But I wouldn’t trade for anything. Like all good writing, it takes me to places and on adventures that I can’t go on. AND I LOVE IT! Rest, my friends, you deserve it! And prayers for a speedy fur baby recovery!
Jae says
Since the series is over, will we ever find out about the 2nd man Kate ever slept with? I remembered years ago, on the forum, someone asking about that, especially since Kate (after Derin) became very conscious about making sure to never again sleep with someone she didn’t know was trustworthy, and the answer hinting something but I can’t recall what anymore.

Thank you for everything this series is. It has kept me company for ten years and I have never followed close enough to rememebr the relsease date. I mean it’d be in my Amazon waiting for me to remember and then I’d devor it in 4-5 hours. Thi stime I waited to buy a few days then kept it a few more until it was raining and just savored every word. Then I was wanting more, so I did want any one should do. I started book 1. Your books are and a few others are what I have decided to keep of a thousand plus books I had as I have become a bit nomadic and moving books is heavy…I was bought a kindle for which I have resisted endlessly..but I digress. Thanks! Love everything you guys write.
