The front page has been updated with the appropriate art and excerpt. Luisa has captured the new Julie perfectly, and we are delighted with the cover.

We have completed the first draft of BLOOD HEIR and sent it to our editor, so the book should come out on schedule, on January 12, 2021. The final manuscript came in at 90,000 words, not counting the extras, and will likely end up around 95,000 words post editing, so about the size of MAGIC BURNS.

We are now shifting gears to RUBY FEVER, Catalina #3 (Hidden Legacy #6.)

    • That was a one shot deal. A small bribe to help out independent bookstores. Order when and where you want to for this one.

  113. The cover is lovely! Julie’s face looks a lot like Kate’s in one of the later covers and the blond hair is like Curran— so she really does look like their daughter now.

    I’m so excited for this book! In the meanwhile, I’m doing (another) reread of Hidden Legacy. I’m in the middle of Sapphire Flames right now—SO good, even on fourth or fifth reading I love it just as much.

    I have to limit myself on how often I reread my favorites because I don’t want to ruin them for myself —- and while not everything on my favorites list is by Ilona Andrews, everything written by Ilona Andrews is definitely on my favorites list. 🙂

  250. That is a great cover image. Julie is appropriately scary, complete with her named weapon of choice. (I still love the threat to name it Stabby McSharpyson – sorry I can’t remember the exact name anymore and can’t look it up anymore.)
    Being able to choose your own cover image must be a relief. It certainly produces better pix!
    Still preordered, (but will also order a hardcopy at some point, when I know if you are doing autographs and where I should try for one…)

    I guess I got spoiled – ie, used to blog posts every few days. Somehow, it got me worried when I didn’t see even a tiny post for a week or so in these unsettled times.
    I know y’all have other things going on – Writing books and finishing them is hard work and important. So is taking care of your family and yourselves. I even figured that you were probably posting elsewhere and didn’t want to take the time for a blog post. (Social media is not my thing, alas.)
    What can I say? I worry about things. It’s been my job for many years and I do it well and often. Now I can switch to worrying about something else.

  266. How you find a cover that perfectly matches the book and write the book at the same time simply boggles the mind. I do not judge a book by the cover, of course. I judge a book by reading it after I have decided that the author is worth my time to read. But this cover is an absolutely perfect rendition of what Julie should look like, with weapons and badge to match.

Best one out there because you are really invested in your readers and their love of your books.   308. Before I pre-order, I was wondering if you guys were going to do any kind of signed copy/bookstore deals? Last time I didn’t pre-order Emerald Blaze for a signed copy from one of the retailers because I’d already pre-ordered and didn’t want to cancel.

    If you don’t know yet, also fine. Just curious if there were any talks/plans for something like that again before I buy it immediately (lol).

  309. This is so exciting. Luisa did an AMAZING job – you can absolutely see where there is an echo of Kate’s bloodline in her features now and it’s stunning and so subtle and brilliant.   310. Book art never matches what’s in my mind which certainly says more about my mind than any art. This is a very powerful image and makes for cover art that I think draws the reader in. Having wisps of a memory of a story that almost might have been read, I keep studying the image and seeing different little details. 🙂 Very neat and a nice thrill, thanks for sharing! Oh and the release date makes for a nice near birthday present too. Glad to hear you got the first draft and the door and I’m looking forward to the finished product.   334. Please stop using “adoptive” all the time, it is rude and demeaning. Julie is Kate’s and Curran’s daughter. Kate and Curran are Julie’s mother and father, and Julie is their child. Not adoptive child, adoptive mother or adoptive father. It really does make a difference.

      While adoptive parents are parents, period, this is commercial fiction and not real life. We have to specify “adoptive” mother for story reasons, because Julie had a biological mother and clearly remembers her and contrasts the two. Curran frequently refers to Mahon and Martha as his parents and Kate calls Voron her father, so the blurb for BLOOD HEIR wasn’t a start of a crusade against adoption.

      The tone of your comment crossed the line into combative and the moderator felt the need to flag it for review. I agree with her, however, I’ve fished it out and will let it stand for now, because your feelings are important.

I am so thankful you share your gifts with us, and I can’t wait to read Blood Heir the day it comes out and then wait two weeks for my mom to remember to order a print copy, get it, read it, and be ready to discuss it.     I actually wanted to comment on your previous post about the Ryder story and all the ‘constructive critique’ you received on that.

    So first some authentic positive and upbeat reactions from me.

    2. I love Derek
    3. There were so many unresolved things between them, it’s lovely that we’ll have answers, and while we weren’t watching the plot thickened….
    4. I always love your writing, whether it’s a snippet or a book or a series
    5. I loved that Luther recognised her, both for the awesome conversation they had, and so someone in the city knows who she really is, a mental sanctuary if you will.

    Anyways, I just wanted to point out that you’ll drive yourselves bonkers trying to pleasing everybody.

    Also take into consideration that you guys have a massive online presence. While before, when readers liked books, they weren’t as quick to send a fan letter, which you would or would not get an answer to, you guys are right here, answering our questions and remarks (which we love btw), and in addition at any other time the comments from our fellow readers are also here, ready to be read and be commented upon, creating a snowball effect.

    You guys make magic through your stories, they are like beautiful flying carpets. We can complain about a stitch or a thread somewhere, but without it, the carpet doesn’t function.

    Thanks for letting me ramble.
