Lisa writes,
I’m a professional songwriter and wrote this song after reading Magic Breaks. Inspired by Kate meeting Semiramis in Mishmar, the song is written from a Matriarch’s pov and tells the story of a mother’s love for her son, his eventual betrayal, and her promised vengeance.
I hope that you enjoy it even half as much as I’ve enjoyed obsessing over your works. Xo

A couple of weeks ago you showed artwork someone drew of Nevada and Rogan’s first meeting, and now a song inspired by a Kate novel. That has got to be the coolest feeling knowing that your art inspired other artists.
I wonder if an author has ever set up a storefront to be a clearing house for fan-inspired art? Probably too much effort, but it would be cool. I’d buy that Nevada/Rogan picture and this song.
Korinne says
I missed the Nevada and Rogan artwork. Do you know what the post was titled? I’ve tried searching the blog for it and haven’t had any luck.
Tink says
Hmmm. That might have been on Facebook or Twitter. I don’t have accounts for either, but their author pages are open to everyone, so you can read without having accounts. I might have seen the art on one of those two locations. I’ll try to look for it tonight and post a link to it.
Tink says
Sorry, couldn’t find it. Perhaps Ilona can post the link or picture.
sarafina says
Of course. Just what Ilona wants to do with BayBay’s issues, car repairs, a trip very soon and her usual release day emotional storm.
Ilona says
It is cleverly hidden on Hidden Legacy website. 🙂 Top menu: Books, Hidden Legacy, Extras.

Look under Characters. 🙂
Tink says
That wasn’t the one I was thinking of. It was an artist’s rendering of Nevada and Rogan when Rogan kidnapped her and was questioning her in the magic circle. That’s the fan art I was speaking of.
CandaceB says
I think you are referring to this review of Burn for Me: https://busybubblebee.wordpress.com/2015/07/01/ilona-andrews-burn-for-me-book-review-with-illustrations/
Tink says
Yes! I don’t remember it being in a book review, but the third picture down of Rogan and Nevada is the one I was thinking of.
Korinne says
Thanks for looking. No luck for me on Nevada and Rogan but I did find fan art of Adam and Augustine on the FB page!
Ilona says
Korinne, look at the comment above yours. 🙂
Korinne says
Thank you so much! My page just hadn’t refreshed to show your comment 🙂
Janina says
Wow. Definitely adding that to my YouTube playlist!
KathyInAiken says
Very nice. What a tribute to your work!
Nifty says
Ilona, what’s the proper pronunciation for Semiramis? Is it suh-MEER-a-mis or semi-RAH-mis? Or maybe something else. Renee pronounces it the first way in #7 and the second way in #9. Inquiring minds want to know! 🙂
Mousewynne says
According to the OED it’s pronounced si-miramis with the accent on the first syllabul. Per Dictionary.com
it’s pronounced su MIR amis.
Anita says
Good question! I was just wondering about that, too. 🙂

Freaking awesome!! Kate’s first time meeting her grandmother is in my top ten favorite KD scenes. This is a nice underscore for Roland’s clash with Semiramis on Mishmar’s bridge.

now I want music for each character! The song is beautiful; thank you!
Marisa says
Gorgeous song, what a tribute! It brings to mind a song by Sevdaliza https://youtu.be/9t7SclAXoQw
Added bonus: i think Kate would look like her. Tall, long dark hair, striking looks but not “pretty”. If I recall correctly Sevdaliza is Persian, but I could be wrong so don’t hold that against me.
This music video makes me think of the matches, but obviously Kate wouldn’t be out belly dancing for an audience without a damned good reason. And Kate doesn’t have hooves…
Kim says
wow thank you for mentioning/linking Sevdaliza, I am now hooked!!
jewelwing says
Lovely song, and lovely video.

“I’m awake” Power words capturing the horror and focus of a woman who conquered her “fears” held a child she loved and saw him clearly despite his gifts of towers. Incredible song. Incredible piece of art. I am still trembling from the notes, the words and the feelings both arose in me.
Lisa says
Omg WOW – I just saw this!!! Thank you so much for sharing the song on your blog!!! And a huge thank you to everyone for the kind comments – I’m truly touched.
We normally write music for other artists and don’t actually release many songs ourselves (we put together that video as an easy way to share the song with you), but will post the iTunes link as soon as I have it… It can take a few days.
(Ilona and Andrew, I will email you the mp3)
Thank you again!!
Lisa says
Sorry, I meant Gordon, not Andrew… Need more coffee in me lol)
