    I have a question, though, Ilona. You mentioned your agent voting on the title. Was that just because she’s familiar with the Kate series? I mean, if Hugh is self-published, then is your agent still involved? Just curious how that works with agents and self-published books.

  41. Please help а non-native speaker understand what covenant mean. I saw different translations and explanaitions of the word with meanings widely varying between testament and contract. Is the meaning mainly religious? Sorry if the question sounds silly, but it’s one of these words that you don’t meet often in everyday text and I just cannot get a feeling of what the title means.

    • I always thought of it as a religious contract since I only read that word in the Bible. However, I just googled the definition. It’s literally a contract. Hugh and Elara agreed to join forces. To make it binding, they will marry by name only. A business agreement since they both share the same enemy. Maybe someone who actually used that word can explain it better than me! =)

      • I’d like to think that in this case it’s also a play on the word ‘coven’. As in witch coven.

    • At it’s most basic it means “agreement” but one of the nuances it conveys is that the agreement is “cast in stone”.

      which is kind of where the contract/ theological uses come from eg: marriage covenant both contract and religion.

      Traditionally once you were married it was for life. Or in contract terms covenant place binding conditions on contracts eg: property contracts could have a covenant which restricts the use of the land (must alway be farming, or a building no bigger than 100m squares.

      So for me I think of a covenant as an agreement which is binding either because of contractual clauses or religious principles and practice, like a marriage which is why this is such a fab series title

    So sorry, Yu. I never get the Series posts until Saturdays. Don’t know why we don’t all get them at once, but there are always hundreds of comments already there when I open up the email in my browser. Maybe if the Author gods find out that we don’t get our emails on the same day, they will see that you couldn’t have responded earlier. There is probably no way for them to trace that.

    Ilona, to answer your yarn question, My favorite 3 online catalogues are Love Knitting, Webbs, and Little Knits. They are all great people to work with, Great online catalogues, fast shipping, never a mistake, great prices, and even easy returns. LittleKnits have 2 fascinating looking yarns at a great discount right now by Feza, “Alp” and “Viva Glitz”. But for summer sweaters you can’t go wrong with Cascade Sarasota or Universal Bamboo Pop DK wt. yarns From Love knitting, or Webbs. They have software that you can narrow your search by fiber, weight, color, sale, price. I always go to the yarn wholesalers’ websites to compare color and texture and look at how the yarn looks in patterns, especially variegated yarns, before I go back and buy. Right now , I’m looking for a mottled denim look, because I live in jeans. Have fun!

And what a fabulous thing for someone to have their suggestion picked up and immortalized in a series title by this team. That’s just an incredible gift. I can hardly wait, I’ve long wanted more of Hugh’s story. I’ve loathed and despised him, but he also tugged at me.

    Ilona, I hope like hell life evens out pdq. Be it great yarn or great yarns, we all need our havens. For many of us, your books fill them. I know you need something else and hope you find some respite and rejuvenation soon.

    Compares well, to the story line.
    It’s visual, Hugh’s description, his horse (previous), the Dogs
    Now my anxiety is the colors.
    But from the sound of it I would reach for it.

    The stress, it’s about color
    it’s about . . . think nature, think sounds, think roiling mass you will deal with. Not must, not have to, just there.
    Roiling, swirling, mashed, blown, crackling, crashing, flashing flickering, soundless spectacle.
    YARN Choices
    there will be, are colors that flit through that sight bending mass.
    don’t decide . . . glance, glismp & observe
    when you were looking for the dogs, you were looking for that flash of color that is them against the road or bushes or grasses
    (actually you were probably trying not to erupt from either end while not running gordon or the dogs over)
    however I digress, let the color come to you . . . that sounds so woo-woo

    For all you have endured, decision heavy, lost, go find, fix, decide, cope, in your surrounds there is a shade, a swatch, a dot, a speck of color that has centered you. It’s will of the wisping around you now, return & like the dogs it will be right there.

    Woo-woo or not that stuff really works. Be well, get better
