The new pub date for THE INHERITANCE (EBOOK) is Tuesday, August 12th. The new proofreader has the file and confirmed that the deadline is doable. The files will be uploaded on Tuesday 12th, so it may take a little bit to propagate through the retailer channels. Meaning if we upload it in the morning, Amazon might not find it until a few hours later.
If all goes well, THE INHERITANCE (EBOOK) will be uploaded to the direct sales store on Tuesday.
You don’t have to purchase from us directly. THE INHERITANCE ebook will be available through all of our usual retailers. meaning Amazon, Apple Books, etc.
Please purchase the book in the format most convenient to you. We want it to be simple and easy. We are getting paid regardless.
The PRINT edition will be available through retailer channels in a couple of weeks. It takes them a little longer to process. The dead tree books will not be available from our direct store at this time.
Audio files will go to the readers on Monday and the AUDIO BOOK will be available within several weeks, depending on the audio reader schedule.
The Store Availability
The store launch so far went well. We’ve had 3,694 downloads so far. Most of them arrived safely, and the few that didn’t got stuck in the the spam folder. A couple of readers typoed when entering their email addresses. A lot of people sent a thank you. A surprising number of people used the troubleshooting contact form to send blank emails to us, because they mistook it for a sign up form, so if you’re one of them, please don’t feel bad, you’re not the only one who has done it.
Because the promotional ebooks were free, we opened those downloads to everyone. Ebooks with an actual price will be subject to tax and VAT, which means we need to make sure we are in compliance with the international tax codes.
Short version:
- USA – yes
- Australia – yes
- New Zealand – yes
- EU and UK-yes eventually, not sure if it’s a yes in time for Tuesday.
- Everywhere else – no
Long version:
We will be opening digital orders for THE INHERITANCE to Australia and New Zealand, because they have a high threshold for digital goods sales recording.
We are working on EU VAT compliance for digital services. It’s a bit different from the physical products. EAS is onboarding us, and hopefully they can do it in time for the launch. If not, we will open for sales to EU as soon as we are able.
As of now, we will not be selling directly to Canada. Here is why.
Taxable supplies that are made in Canada are subject to the GST at a rate of 5%, or the HST at the harmonized rate if they are made in a participating province.
The current rates of tax are:
- 5% (GST) in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and Yukon
- 13% (HST) in Ontario
- 14% (HST) in Nova Scotia
- 15% (HST) in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island
To determine where your specified supplies are made, you must determine the status of your customer and the usual place of residence of your customer.
This is complicated. EAS app sets VAT, files taxes, and invoices us. I can’t find an app that will do that for Canada, which means we have to do this manually or hire someone, and that doesn’t seem to be feasible right now.
Other countries and regions: the tax codes are too complicated at this time. We are sorry.

We are uploading our backlist titles to the store as well, so if you’re missing any titles, they are going to start popping up for sale.

And I am still so very excited for the release of The InBEARitance… and p*tiently counting down the days until it’s available to buy. Especially now that I’ve finished devouring the Innkeeper series.

I’m not sure I will buy from the store again. It was an incredible pain to pry the epub file out of Bookfunnel, so I could store it in Calibre. I tapped a link that claimed it downloaded to the Bookfunnel download folder… which is WHERE exactly?! Best I can figure is that it’s buried somewhere that the tablet OS won’t let me see. Others links are tapped repeatedly with no response. Eventually I stumbled thru some magic sequence that persuaded it to email me the file.
Please buy it however is more comfortable to you 🙂
Hi Tom, we gave you free books precisely so you can try the shop out and see if you liked it. If you don’t like it, no worries, the book will be available everywhere else.
I’m not our esteemed authors, but your device should have an email attached to it. To find that email address Go to Manage Your Content and Devices ->Preferences->Personal Document Settings. Scroll down to Send to Kindle Email Settings and make note of the email assigned to your device.
Then scroll further down to Select Approved Personal Document Email List, and check for your email address. If it’s not there, select Add a new e-mail address.
Enter the desired email address, make sure it’s complete and valid, and then select Add Address.
Then send the document to your kindle address from your new, shiny approved email. Hope that helps!

Click on the link in Bookfunnel and choose email, at the bottom of the new window that pops up.
Then open your email, down load the file/s and send To your Kindle device. If you’ve never done that before, you will need to know your Kindle email address which you can get in Settings on your Kindle. Subject line should be the book title, body of email is blank and attach the downloaded book. Send, open your kindle, and it will be in either your Kindle Library or your Kindle Downloads.
One of the nice things about Bookfunnel is it will store your books so you can re-download if something goes wrong with your device or the process. Just make sure you are accessing it with the same email each time, as that’s your account. I hope that helps!
I have a B&N Nook tablet. I’ve bought through Book Funnel from other authors and it runs as a separate app that can be read directly on the tablet. No need to import into another reader. I also have a separate Kindle app on that same tablet for Amazon exclusives, like Fated Blades.

Hi Raven, I see lots of super nice people here have given you no doubt correct and useful advice. Still, it all sounds daunting.
I wonder if maybe you made an incorrect choice somewhere early in the choice tree. I just followed the (very slowly and carefully read) directions, and I never had to do more than tap as told. I did it all from my iPhone, and when I went to my Kindle it was in my cloud library. It took about two minutes total.
If the store still has the free books, maybe you could just try again?

I have a question. I own a small Bookstore, and have a wholesale contract, So I ordered all of the “Hidden Legacy” books in “Library Editions” that would be hardback with nice jackets, except the first one- Burn For Me, (and Diamond Fire) will either of those ever come out in Hard Back of any kind? They look like step sisters next to the Hardbacks.
Unfortunately, the publisher, Avon, have no plans for that at the moment. The series was reissued as trade paperback after the cover renewal.

so just to make sure I understood this right: the direct sale (through your e-store) will not work in Canada, but we, poor BDHers in Canada, will still be able to buy the e-book through Amazon Canada when it becomes available (not yet as far as I can tell)
The release date is next Tuesday, so will not be available yet anywhere.
All the usual retailers will have it, including in Canada. So wherever you bought your other self-published releases (Innkeeper, Sanctuary, Wilmington Years etc) – will carry The Inheritance.

It looks like you’re using shopify for the store. I have it for my (Canadian) shop, and it automatically calculates the taxes to charge. I suppose the complicated part is getting those taxes to the appropriate government agency.

Suggestions for sticker papers for my printer? I’m lost. I do hope there will be more sticker images. The sticker collections with “My ability to even…” and “I like home. It’s warm and there are books.” had some with the words off the edge of the sticker. I didn’t notice when I first bought them, only later when I tried to peel them. So I’d love to see that collection available to print if they are not going to be sold again. I’m all in favor of House Andrews taking my money for things they are selling.

I was able to download the freebie without issue. I started using the app for them. It’s easy, they give you a code, you type it in. It works and unlike all the other side loaded books I have, you won’t lose them. I use a Samsung tablet with micro sd card which helps for earlier loading into the kobo app. But I have still lost a lot of free and bought purchases from other publishers.
I know a lot of authors are opening their own stores but I will continue to purchase from Amazon and kobo. I don’t have to worry about losing my books when I change devices.
I love that the click box on Inheritance says “doesn’t work yet” 😂
Thank you for posting the older books too. I’m still pissed at amazon for selling me a book & oopsie its only a rental… for everything ever. I’m still trying to find a new service that’s easy, lets me organize, & has the options for my vision issues. At least bookfunnel will let me send to other apps whenever I want.

I’m sure a few years ago there wouldn’t have been any issues selling to Canada, as I have bought books in the past directly from other US authors stores and we always had taxes.

The Canada tax comments are mildly hilarious – when you *know* the system it doesn’t seem odd, then someone from outside asks a couple questions…
I’ve lived in three provinces, and am old enough to remember before we had GST. When I moved to Alberta (no provincial tax) you simply paid the price on the item – i.e. $19.99, no waiting to see the final total after tax. Very odd to me at first. The various tax rates and US crossborder shopping helped make me very good at practical math – exchange rate versus taxes here and there, and shipping when applicable.
As someone who lives in Canada, I really do understand the issues with taxes. I totally do!

Maybe this is a dumb question, but have you looked at Avalara (avalara.com) for handling sales/VAT taxes in Canada and elsewhere?
As a Canadian, I feel honour-bound to defend our wonderful tax system and point out that that Canadian government site you quoted from SIMPLIFIED things for the hapless foreigners. The true system can be MUCH more complicated. That quote failed to mention that:
1. The federal GST (aka Gouge and Screw Tax) does not apply universally. Some goods and services are exempt – so you have to check if GST even applies. Originally books were exempt. However, I believe the government later sneaked them onto the list and they are no longer exempt.
2. The same is true of the PST (provincial sales tax) component in the Harmonized Tax cases. The HST applies in provinces that have the federal government collect their provincial sales taxes together with the GST as a single lump sum tax. The federal government then sends the provincial component to the province in question. The other provinces collect their own taxes separately, so there you pay two separate taxes when buying (and retailers have to collect and remit two taxes when selling).
(Buyers in Ontario do not pay 13% tax while buyers in BC only pay 5%. The buyer in BC pays 5% to the federal government plus a separate provincial sales tax to the BC government so the total tax is still about the same.)
3. Also, every now and then – generally before an election – the federal government tinkers with the GST. For example, from November 2024 to February 2025, the federal government declared a “Christmas season tax holiday” when items commonly given as gifts were GST-free. This included toys, puzzles and BOOKS.
So if HA had been selling The Inheritance last November, the tax rate across Canada would probably have been 0% … at least until February …
The “partial GST holiday”, of course, meant that happy retailers across Canada had to re-program their cash registers for three month to charge GST on everything EXCEPT exempted items. As you might imagine, this was greeted with cries of joy by the retailers – while consumers pretty much said “So what? No GST on toys and books for a few months? It’s still on all the really expensive stuff, so who cares?”
I just didn’t want people to think that the Canadian sales tax situation was really as simple and uncomplicated as the federal government was implying on that website…
Devastated just realised that for Europe might not be Tuesday . So I will have to wait / or buy through my American Amazon account. And I wanted to buy from your store . But cannot wait . For the first time it was really hard to follow a serial I just wanted her to get out and kick ass . Especially a certain person ass . Melissa I am on fence . A mother with two kids to feed… might not make the best moral decision when she has to decide fast . survival mode kicking in! But she has to lose her job yep! Am ranting .. cannot wait to read it ! Ilona, just to let you know there is no tax (VAT) on ebooks in the UK but that might not help any with your setup.
The direct store books are available in the U.K. 🙂

I just got a “track your order” email from “shop.app”. It is offering to help me find out when my copy of “Inheritance” will arrive. Since the only reason I haven’t finished my first read through is because I have another book that is due back to the library in two days the answer was no.
At first I was just amused but now I realize that it wants me to download something, which makes it a hard no. So now I’m asking if “Shop Pay” is a legitimate part of your online store?

Thanks. I did purchase direct from the store and downloaded my book without incident but was concerned that someone might be targeting people who purchased from there.I will contact the store.
