Woof! We’ll be celebrating the release of THE INHERITANCE (Book 1 of the new Breach Wars series) with a live Q&A event:

Join Ilona and Gordon on Saturday, August 16 at 10 AM Central on Zoom – register here.

We’ll be diving in the breach to tackle all things Inheritance, from mature female protagonists to mysterious Talents, everyone’s favorite grumpy Guildmaster, and of course, me! Best girl Bear, the not-so-little K9 wonder.

If you’re interested in anything specific like future writing plans, how Maggie is doing, pets and stories – comment with your question below. I’ll make sure to take the list to the humans, only slightly chewed.

I love zoomies! But Zoom spaces are limited, and they tend to go fast. Please be sure to register ahead of time to reserve your spot.

      • Do you know what your roadmap looks like for the next little bit? Will Inheritance sequel be a web serial, where might it fall on the roadmap? Do you plan another Wilmington? Roadmap? How is Hugh doing these days? Will there be more Julie and/or Derek? What about Inn Keeper? And also, roadmap? 🙂

  7. Hi Mod R,
    I would love to know how House Andrews feels about stepping back into the trad publishing space. They have previously commented on how great things have been, but that was when they were working on book 1. Now that they are under the time crunch for book 2 how have those feelings changed/evolved? Has it been hard to go back to juggling Trad books on contract with self published projects? Also, status updates on life/pets would be lovely.

      • Speaking of Book 2s, I don’t know if this has been touched on but is there a rough timeline announced for Maggie 2?

        I haven’t even seen Maggie 1 but I’m already excited about Maggie 2… given how big Maggie 1 turned out to be, I’m just wondering how much pa***nce I’ll have to steel myself for. Maggie 1 has already tested me in that regard… I’ve been told learning this skill is character building.

        I was super glad that Inheritance was so quick after the blog ended. HA is just wonderful to give us that present!

    • House Andrews can give more details in the Zoom, but I can tell you now the answer to this is yes 🙂, at least two more books are expected in the Innkeeper series.

  14. I have no inheritance questions just because I haven’t read the serial and am waiting for the audio! But I have a few Maggie questions.

    1) can you give us ANY hints about Maggie special editions (from retailers or book boxes)? I know these things may not be finalized yet. I basically want to know how many copies I have to buy. 😂

    2) do you think the Maggie POV books will be a duology or a trilogy? Is there a possibility for a spinoff novel or novella for intriguing side characters?

    3) any word on an audiobook narrator for Maggie?

    4) if your publisher sends you on tour, please come to the northeast!

  20. Any thoughts on doing a book for Arabella? novella? slice of life? maybe an interview at the Inn?
    What has happened to Bear, why has she grown bigger?
    will it be explained in the book??

    • The explanation already present in the serial will be clarified 🙂. The regeneration factor both Bear and Ada gained from the combination of stalker hearts and purple flower toxin manifested in muscle and bone growth for Bear, with the aid of her Breach Chow diet.

  23. Would HA ever be interested in coming to Alaska as part of a book tour or a one-off? We have a few small cons in both Anchorage & Fairbanks. Arctic Con is the most well known. Maybe they’d be interested in doing the Alaska cruise and having a meet & greet for one of the shore days?

    • My uncle always wanted to go on an Alaska cruise. If I ever did it would be because it was something he was, sadly, unable to do before he passed. However, it would probably make me feel things and I never have much cared for that sort of thing.

  30. I wanted to know about innkeeper . When is the next book..Iso wan to know about the tree in the vampire world . And I really wan to know about the last sister of the burn for me series . At the end of the last book she fought with the bear of Kamchatka. I want to know how she develop and will we have a nice serie ending. Will she have her own book or not. I was also curious about the daughter of the one communicating with animals . It was many times hinted at her special gifts . Would love to see her development . Even a novella about them would be nice .

    1. Is Dina’s Earth and Ada’s Earth the same and if not, how do they both exist?

    2. Was the crossover between Inheritance and Innkeeper planned from the very beginning?

    3. Is it easier/faster to write a new book, as opposed to a sequel (like Willimington 3)?

    4. Is the three book contract with Tor three Maggie’s or two Maggie’s and something else?

    5. What type of publisher would you prefer for Puffles, traditional or self-pub?

    I can’t wait for tomorrow and I’m sure to have more questions after reading.

  35. Others have already asked some of the questions on my mind.

    I keep coming back to the Baylorverse and it’s such a rich world for storytelling. I support waiting for the right time for Arabella telling her story. It’s understandable.

    What about exploring new characters in another part of that world? Completely unconnected to the Baylors, with their own set of struggles and powers. Lord knows it’s a volatile place with no shortage of drama.

    Not that your plate isn’t piled high. But it could be another trad published romance trilogy down the road. Or fill out a book of peripheral character stories set in that world.

I was one of the ones who asked a while ago (I think it was after the release of Fated Blades?) if there would be any IA stories without romance, and not only was my question answered on the Blog (thank you!), but I squeeee-d when I realized that The Inheritance feels like a complete story without romance. It is a story I will be re-reading and re-reading. Thank you!

  51. Am I the only one who thought Ascanio will/would be involved in the love story of Metal Rose aka Derek and Julie ?

    • do you mean trying to get them together? If so I agree. I think he doesn’t really want to be the next beastlord but wants Derek to be it and he can be his second. Not to say he wasn’t mad at Derek for leaving but in Hughs book he seem to be better at controlling his emotions and was more rational, Hugh even commented on it. If he knows Julie’s Julie than he knows if she stays, Derek will and he will want a good foothold to protect her.
      So is Ascanio really turned into a jerk like he seemed to be in the book or is he intentionally egging Derek on so he’ll make a move?

    • Are (more) short stories with Julie/Derek from during the Kate Daniels Time possible? Or with one/both of them before Blood Heir begins?
    • Will it ever be possible for me to get a Hardback version of Blood Heir? (Am I going to the Oracle or what? Purpoise spit, here I come!) Or a combined Magic Stars and Blood Heir Hardback version? In an Amazon store possibly? (fingers crossed)

    it was on the site. I took my giddy self to check out with crossed fingers….like a kid in the candy store. Ka- ching …it went through and I have been reading it since.

I know, I’ll have to w*it a long time for him, because you have other things to do (Bear and D’Ambray please!) but please, when you continue with him one day… Don’t give him only one more book!!! Give me 1000!!! I can’t live a life without him😭😭😭. Ok. Maybe I should really speak with a doctor about it…

  64. Inheritance is here!!! Sadly I can not buy it from the shop :-(. It tells me they do not sell to my country because of tax reasons. It’s weird as Poland is in EU. We don’t use euro though. I’ve asked through the Contact if it will become available for me but now I have to w*** for an answer while I can see it on Kobo… Difficult choices, I really wanted to get it from the authors… I think I’ll wait at least a moment… maybe two 😉

    • I got the same message, but I’m from Austria (EU + EURO). They were not sure whether EU would be ready today, so I still hope it’s a temporary thing. I will try again in a few days (or tomorrow …)

        “A quick note regarding EU access to the store. The company that onboarded our EU tax compliance assumed that all books are tax free in US, which caused an issue when I tested the store and it dramatically failed to collect Texas tax. We had to temporarily remove EU access, but they assure us that everything is fixed. Once I get through the customer issues, I will try reopening and we will see if it works.”

        • It works! I’ve got an email when it started working and tested it by buying the Inheritance :-D. Everything worked and I LOVE the ending. Can not wait for the sequel ;-).

  81. I got my copy of The Inheritance this morning! Also, thank you for the option to print stickers, I picked Proud Member of the BDH. Book came through exactly as expected and I know what I’ll be doing today! :~)

    The sticker came directly in a separate email. I was quite impressed with the store, Ohio has a sales tax holiday until Aug 14th, and it even knew that. Many, many thanks for all you do for us!!!

  83. How did you research all of the mythology behind the Kate Daniel’s series? I’ve been so fascinated as to how y’all have learned and are able to phrase all of the monsters and creatures so well!

  84. I saw that Kobo has it on Kobo Plus (bonus!) – I’ll read it on Kobo Plus and will also buy it too as a thank you for all that HA does, but I was curious about the subscription services.

    What makes HA decide whether to include a book in a program like Kindle Unlimited or Kobo Plus? Let’s just say I was extremely surprised and delighted that it was in Kobo Plus this morning but was definitely not expecting it.

  93. I haven’t read the book yet but this cover is awesome! I have the Luisa Preissler print of Fated Blades on my wall and would love to have Inheritance next to it. Do you think there will be similar release with Candice Slater? I am not sure how it works, if that is something that comes from the artist or if it’s a collaborative thing with an author. I have looked at Candice’s website and don’t see anything about buying prints. Do you have any ideas? Thanks! Can’t wait to read the book 🙂

    I was couldn’t bear the suspense of having to wa*t for the weekly serial, so I held off and speed read the whole thing in one go.

  99. I loved the additional artwork included in the book. I love the resolution of the story and really appreciate it is NOT a cliffhanger, but I really don’t think the breach wars can be covered in just 2 book, I am quite sure the rest of the BDH will agree with me. 😉 We will chalantly w**t for further stories. You can write as many as you think will be necessary, hopefully it’s many…

  101. Questions, questions, questions….

    1)I know this is in the hands of HA, is there a chance of 2 more Inheritance stories?

    One for Ada to learn more of who and what she is and also have Elias interact with Ada as they prep for war, and of course the trip(s) to Baha-Char.

    And a second for the war – various guild involvements, outing of those in goverment who are keeping sophonts secret and why (payoff, power…), meeting and working with other Sandines, taking the final action to the Tsuan

    I’m not a writer so maybe the important stuff (‘ship and war) can be done in one book…

    2)another snippet like the Klaus, Arland and Maud one on the blog. Another hint of the plans being laid for the war wedding.

    3. was Jovo already in the breach when the Tsuun used it as the gangplank between worlds? what was he doing there?

    1) Are sadrin only females or they can be any sex/gender and other species, like others who are battling the invaders

    2)Will the Inheritance world see the help of the Innkeeper with the vampires, the Horde, and the ad-hals helping the humans in Ada’s world? The shroud seems very like the corrupted Innkeepers.

    3)I like Sam, I am shipping her with Leo. Do we get to see more of Cold Chaos A team in book 2?

    4)Non-Inheritance question. May we get a snippet of Roman and Andora and the whole Black Volhv family get-together. I have been listening to Sanctuary since the scenes of snow and cold is a treat during the heatwave in Seattle….90F weather is HOT.

    5)Stickers for the Inheritance and the Cold Chaos log would be nice. The commercial spiel reminds me of a series I read a while back called Time Wars by Simon Hawke.

  106. Inheritance question – Ada tells the DDC that Cold Chaos sent their scouts into the breach to find her. Can we hear more about this? Why would that be better than sending in a whole team? How does this make Cold Chaos look good? I’d love to get more info here.

    The Inheritance is freaking amazing. I’ve read it twice so far, back-to-back (the ending first, of course) and am about to start my third go-through. I absolutely adore Ada. Thank you for these awesome characters and fantastic books.

  107. So I have questions. These may be answered in the next book so no worries if that’s the case. All are a spoilery, so skip if you haven’t read.

    1. What was the amulet Ada was asked to look at when she first became an Assessor. Is she able to know more about it now?

    2. What happened to the spider herder mark on her arm? Was she able to hide it from the DDC?

    3. Who locked up the second cat? Did the same people make the recording? Wouldn’t that mean someone else was present and survived? Then they left the recording to be found with the cat …this seems fishy.

    Loved the book and so enjoyed the serial! Thank you so much!

    • Follow up question: did Tia’s Talent actually show up during the school incident? Finding out her teacher really does hate her might explain her outburst.

      She clearly has some experience with her Talent by the time she and Noah meet Elias and Leo. Her brother seems to know about by then as well.

  108. I have some questions across the series:
    -Have Kate and Curran kept the beach castle in Wilmington now that they have the Penderton fort? If so, is it to have a decoy home for Mahon’s visits? Do they commute back and forth? Do they have a rental home in Penderton for when their working on the new fort?
    -Once Curran lost his godhood, did he keep the extra height or shrink back down?
    -Grandma Frida and Grandpa Linus seem to have similar kinds of magic. Did Grandma Frida’s magic genes make it more likely that Arthur would get Linus’s magic? (I don’t super understand genetics; I took Art History in college)
    -The portal beasties that are meant to vomit onto Ada’s earth and destroy it aren’t part of the portal planets ecosystem, right? If that’s true, are they similar to the summoned creatures from Hidden Legacy?
    -Jack and Gaston aren’t arbiters like George (I think). Does this mean they could go back to the Camerine/Mar earth before the 20 years are up?
    -Did Sophie use the Baha Char gate to let Rose and everyone know where the boys went? Or did George and Jack only get to Baha Char (in the first Innkeeper book) once George became an arbiter?
    -Has the presence of Helen made Lord Soren has Karat more or less for grandkids?

  114. First off, I’ve been struggling with postpartum anxiety and this book was so inspiring!! I really related to the way Ada’s panic was described. Thank you for writing this book.

    In terms of questions, since Ada was able to punch through London’s forcefield so easily, is it implied that Ada’s prior analysis was slightly incorrect? Eg that they definitely had 2 minutes where London’s force field would have protected them if he hadn’t threw the grenade? Not defending him at all as he sucks but just wondering if the implication is that the gress and sadrine could have also punched through his forcefield easily.

    * what happened to the electronic guts from the Gress witness. Were they incinerated by the amulet, kept by Ada, or recovered along with the broken forcefield dial by Cold Chaos?
    * is taking video or photos inside a breach just a matter of having sufficiently advanced technology? The sort of tech that a Lees could help source from Baha-Char?
