In an effort to clarify things, here are the many editions of This Kingdom. Some of you will be seeing several of these on sales at your preferred retailers. We are just trying to help you make sense of them.
Tor US Hardcover: teal edges.

The US Tor edition, available primarily in the US. Some EU readers will also see this as available in their markets, but it will be coming from the US.
Tor UK Hardcover: darker image, painted edges with flower pattern.

Tor UK Hardcover, which originated in UK and is distributed accordingly.
Waterstones Hardcover Edition: we are over the moon happy to share this incredible dark cover edition, with gilded sprayed edges.

Exclusive Waterstones edition, also originating in UK, that will be signed.
There are two other special editions that are US centered and will have their own edge treatment, special art, and fanciness. More on that when we have permission.
Translations:
To date, This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me has sold to publishers in France, Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, Ukraine, and Slovenia. We will tell you more when we can. The translations will come out later than the English versions, because it takes longer to get the manuscript translated. I can tell you that we have seen some things from France and Germany, and the editions promise to be beautiful.

It’s my birthday, 1st?
Happy birthday, First! 🥳
Hey Mod R – love your new avatar!!
Any way Tor wants to present this book on the outside is fine. It’s what’s on the pages, to me, that matter.
Not much longer! 😄
I haven’t been this early on the blog in a long time. Whoa! 😂
I second this sentiment… AND I love beautiful things.
What they said.
Just cancelled my pre-order for the standard hardback, and ordered the signed Waterstones edition instead. So beautiful ❤️
Me too. It looks beautiful
It’s tempting, for sure.
You know, I didn’t even consider that as an option and was just going to do a light sulk over not having prettier edges lol. I’m gonna wait to see what’s coming for the US editions and decide then. Great idea!!!
I have the standard US hardback copy on pre-order and am SO looking forward to the release date. 😀
I’ll be keeping an eye out for the Spanish version. I bought the first three books of Hidden Legacy and loved them. Are there any more books planned for translation?
Dear Tor US…you may want to step it up a bit.
Sincerely,
American who is now buying a European edition
I was just looking at how I could buy the UK version
SAME. I will prob get both if I’m honest but the only one I’ve actually spent money on is the Waterstones. Idk why we can’t get cool edges here.
+1 USA here and I want some pretty edges too!
There’s just a bit more w*it for the special editions reveals – we can do it! 🤗
Ditto!
The Waterstones edition is gorgeous! But now I want to see the special US versions before I decide which one to get. 😁Thank you for sharing this with us!
+1! Will definitely have to get one of the special editions, plus the Kindle version.
I know the edges don’t change the story, but those Waterstone ones are gorgeous and really make me want that one! 😄
They are all lovely! I covet the Waterstones signed edition! I can’t wait to see the other international versions! Thanks for sharing!
They are all gorgeous, but I think I’ll stick to the ebook all the same, we have to have some room in the house for us and the dog!
waterstones edition is definitely fancy, plus signed.
I guess Canada will get the regular US cover 🙁
I was convinced Canada had the Waterstones chain for some reason 😅 I know for sure they ship!
Amazon Canada show the hardcover with plain teal edges, so I guess it is carrying the Tor US edition.
Waterstones does have a Canadian branch – google Waterstones Canada. It carries both signed and unsigned editions apparently – both for 22GBP.
Shipping to Canada from the UK is free for orders over 25GBP or else is 2.99GBP for orders below that. Since the book seems to be 22GBP, a Canadian buyer can either find something else for 3GBP and get free shipping or else pay 3GBP shipping…
Drat!
The “free shipping over 25GBP or else 2.99GBP” was just within the UK. I just pre-ordered the Signed Edition, and shipping to Canada is going to be 13.65GBP. So about 40GBP total.
Nice book though – looking forward to receiving it.
Shipping to Australia is 18 pounds (plus the 22 pounds for the book), still worth it though (we’re used to high shipping costs here 🙂)
I am curious if any US retailers will be doing special editions? Regardless, the TOR edition is gorgeous & special enough!
More to come!
I ordered the US version with the extra swag. I assume it will be teal but I adore the UK painted flower edges. All of the are so pretty!!
Me too! I almost forgot .. almost!
I won’t splurge on merch, but I will splurge on one of the gorgeous hardcover editions with sprayed edges. Shame on the taxes from Uk to Germany! But I want, want, waaaaaant – there’s another four letter word for the hordlexicon…
I like the sprayed and the painted edges the same, so I’m quite happy that you get the painted one from buch7.de, that makes it easy to decide and no additional taxes 😉
I wanted the signed version, so I ordered from the UK. With shipping and taxes it came out at about 40€, which is expensive but worth it for a special edition in my opinion. I’m not a fan of translations and it will probably be difficult to get a signed version in Germany otherwise. However, buying the special edition (without signature) from a German site is smart!
Ooooooooooohhhhhh, sprayed floral edges! 😍💕💕💕 Can I just say how much self-restraint and chalantness I am currently practicing NOT to immediately cancel my pre-order of the US hardcover and order a UK version?!!
I will instead try to be very p*tient and w*it to see what the US special versions look like! But they are all so pretty, and knowing what awaits inside all of them….perfection!!!!!
🥰💕💕💕
I’m from Slovakia and I read your books in English and I’m so surprised to see Slovak edition. We are small market 🙂
I’m so excited that Eastern European publishers are getting more open to the books and having own editions! One day I’ll be able to buy them for my mother in Romania!
Do I remember correctly that there will be special editions with bonus content?
Because if that’s the case I will buy the ebook for now and w**t to buy a physical exemplar
ohhh, I’m so exiceted to finally really meet Maggie *manic grin*
Until then I’ll get my isekai fix from tapas and webtoon 😉
We can confirm that at least one US special edition will have bonus content, yes 🙂 . A reminder that the bonus content is not crucial to understanding the story and it is exactly what it says – an extra 🙂
I know but I know myself and my slight book obsession *looks to the other IA special editions on the bookshelf*
Extras are fun!!!!
I saw the Waterstones post on IG but can’t seem to find it again. They had put up a deadline for pre-orders – Mod R, do you know when the deadline was? I’m debating preordering now vs. waiting to see how the US special editions editions look…
Hi Lia,
Waterstones doesn’t have a post for it on IG, just a story – the IG post is from Tor Books UK :). You can find it here, also shared on the Ilona Andrews official account – https://www.instagram.com/p/DTaqO8fDfYk/?hl=en
There is no deadline – I’m wondering if maybe you’re confusing it with the release date for this edition – April 2nd? You can also check the Waterstones preorder page I linked directly above, the only “restriction” I see is that it’s only one signed edition per customer 🙂
thank you Mod R! that must have been it – I was confused by the release date. Yay! I will wait and see about the US editions before placing an order with Waterstones.
I got my Waterstones signed edition pre-ordered.
It’s sooo pretty 😍
I just checked my Kindle version and Audible are already ordered so I all set for April 😍😃
congratulations!!! all from a story you were initially discouraged from writing.
I’m so happy Maggie is getting the royal treatment with multiple books.
And that you have had a great publishing experience this far with Tor. I’m excited to see what other books you publish with them. . . like Puffles for example????
I’m still hoping for a technomancer finish some day. That poor heroine needs to make it out of captivity in my head.
I have no room for books so I’m keeping my pre-order on my Kindle as much as I loathe Amazon and am counting down the days. Is it March yet?
Absolutely gorgeous
I love the trend of pretty edges!
Prettiessssssss! 💙
Is the UK exclusive edition the one to go for EU or there are going to be more? 🇮🇹
Hi Elenariel,
The last paragraph of the article deals with all the other European countries who are putting out editions so far 🙂.
If you want an English language copy, then yes, the UK editions would be the ones to go for.
Thank you Mod R 🫶🏻
I read the description page on the Waterstones website, if I understood correctly the edition has decorated edges, is signed, but there are no illustrations and/or extras, right?
Wow, those are some gorgeous UK editions. I rarely read paper books, and I already ordered from my local bookstore, but uh yeah….
For anyone who needs to know, it’s about $50 total for the book and shipping from Waterstones to California.
Thank you for the pricing information.
They’re all lovely. But which one is actually coming out first?
UK and US hardcovers on the 31st of March. The Waterstones signed 2 days later, on the 2nd of April.
Translations a bit later and I cannot yet confirm anything about the special boxes 🙂
Thanks for the info!
TOR is taking SUCH excellent care of you and this book. It is so deserved, and I am over the moon excited to see the special editions coming our way in the U.S…. having trouble not pre-ordering and overpaying for the gorgeous U.K. editions but I will be p*tient.
Will there be a paperback edition?
Normally I like it better, because it’s lighter then hardback but style have the same style.
Yes, there is a paperback format, available from most retailers 🙂
Congratulations on all your sales. You both deserve it!
Oh my goodness the UK version with the flowers is soooo pretty! I really might consider buying it, depending on the shipping costs to Italy, even if I usually read HA books in ebook format
Very cool! Might have to think about getting a hardcover, which I normally don’t do.
The Hedge Hog is Cuute, I’ve seen a green flash sunset once over the Pacific when we had a very clear day, and we do have some lavenderish sunsets, (but they are usually cause by smoke particulates).
why do they all have to be so beautiful, I’m going to want every version 😭🤦🏼♀️🥰😍
I HAVE to have that Waterstones signed edition, my preorder is in and I can’t wait to receive it!
I just hope the US editions aren’t as gorgeous or I may end up having to buy multiple copies (on top of the audiobook I’ve already ordered lol)
I’m so happy to see Maggie getting all this special treatment though!
Waterstone edition ordered 😉
Congratulations!!
Extended preview wheeeeeeeeeen. I hate wa*ting…whiiiiiiiiine…
I like the US teal edges but I love the UK sprayed edges!
Absolutely stunning! It is so wonderful to see the special editions/edges. I am so glad to see TOR investing in you, us and art!
This is off topic but I wanted to ask if you could share your playlist again,or maybe add a tab Music We Like? I know you are swamped but some time ago you shared what you were listening to while writing and I enjoyed finding the music and listening. I can’t find the original blog. PS I am a long time member of the BDH and am looking forward to Maggie. And to an Augustine novella. I listened to Sanctuary several times over the holidays – such a wonderful novella and moving backstory for a favorite Kate Daniels character. Your books make me happy, sad,and thoughtful. Thank you.
I won a copy via Goodreads giveaway (still excitedly awaiting it’s arrival) but these are so gorgeous. As all books are part of an annual re-read cycle, I cannot wait to own one of these fancy-sxhmancy editions.
All sooo beautiful!! TOR is really being good to Maggie!
Well done, HA!
Oooh I’m going to tell my mom about the French version, she will be so happy to have that book to look forward to (she is a proper BDH member at 82 who rereads your books constantly!) 😊
omg omg omg omg
sorry just being Chalant on the signed UK Waterstones edition. young to have to order that now.
even though I really love the standard hardback edition edging just slightly more, bit signatures 😍😍😍😍 especially after knowing the pain you’ve gone through with signing and stamping as applicable!
I LOVE the UK hardcover! I’m from Poland so maybe I’ll buy the UK one later, I have the ebook pre-ordered :-). It’s great that it will be translated! I read in english and prefer it that way as I hate translations but my mom reads in polish only. I’ve introduced her to your books and she’s become a fan as well. She’ll be thrilled to be able to read it!
OMG I haven’t bought a hardcopy book in years, but I’ve just pre-ordered the signed UK Waterstones special edition – it’s just too beautiful to not 🙏
Mashed that Waterstones pre-order button so hard! They’re charging almost as much for the shipping to Australia as the book costs, but I don’t care!
Sane! Haha
I’m so excited to have a signed printed version of an Ilona Andrews book!!!
I also have the ebook and audio preordered 🤣
I’m not usually one who cares much about cover art, but the darker background totally changes the look. Badass!
Luckily for me I tend to read digital anyway, so switching the image is totally viable.
Pretty!! So pretty!
Thank you for sharing
We are all so happy for your success 💐 The books are so beautiful.
So looking forward to Maggie!
The covers are so great! I love the UK waterstones version with the cool edges. I’ve already pre-ordered the ebook (had to go search to see who I ordered it from to make sure I really had!).
I’m w**ting not so p*tiently to hear about other US cool versions, before I buy a hardcover edition!
Only 2 months and 18 days to go!
Thank you for taking the time for specific clarification. Without it I likely would have come to the conclusion that someone had bootlegged your book and was trying to profit from your hard work!
I’m very glad I was able to preorder my Waterstones special edition as a Christmas gift for myself! *Squee!*
I’m in the USA and just ordered the Waterstones special edition for 36.17 pounds, which includes the shipping and tariff, etc.
Thank you for the info!!!
Gosh I hope we’ll be able to get the pretty edge ones in Australia
I haven’t done a hardcopy book in years, but I just had to pull the trigger on that UK Waterstones version. What with the darker cover the stunning edges and signing, simply couldn’t pass it up. As ever thrilled with the success y’all are having, but not at all surprised. Will always get my Audible, but really excited to get this hard copy! My shelves are so limited for super special hard backs, this one deserves its space. What wonderful treatment this is receiving!
Congratulations! They are all beautiful. And by my count we only have ~77 days!!
Wow, those are beautiful!! I’m so looking forward to reading this book. Thank you 2 wonderful authors!
The world of book sellers are nearly as excited as we are!
Wow! That is so impressive. Congratulations.
I ordered the Waterstone one from the UH because its so pretty!!! Shipping wasn’t too awful to come to the US. Probably means I’ll get it later, but that’s ok. I have the precious on my Kindle.😍😍
I look forward to the book here in Canada, sadly I can not get hardcover this time. But I will cherish what ever versions I end up getting!
Thank you for your hard work, thank you for your amazing books. And thank you for more characters to love
Oh so looking forward to the special US edition! As soon as that info is released, I’ll call my local bookstore to swap my preorder over 🙂 They said once they have an ISBN it should be simple to do.
Fingers crossed the special editions will also be sent through to those bookstores that had the preorder packages? Otherwise I’ll have to pick between a pretty book and supporting my local bookstore
I have a question about isekai format. I’ve only read one, and I was rooting for her to escape back to her original life the whole book. That did not happen, it was a big twist in the last scene with the resolution coming in the next book.
Do characters ever go back to their normal life? Do they always make a new life for themselves in the story? Have to read Maggie and Maggie 2 to find out?
Isekai is an entire subgenre, so there isn’t really an “always” one way or the other, because authors will write different stories with different endings 🙂. It’s like asking “does the girl always end up with the werewolf?”
We definitely need to w*it and read Maggie, yes! 🤪
Thanks!
I wish we could order the British version of the hard cover book in America. I love the cover and the edge print!
I just ordered the Waterhouse edition, it is too pretty to pass up!
Me too! So excited!
Pretty-looking forward to the fancy US editions!
All of the covers are lovely, but I have to admit, I really like the darker moodier look of the UK version. oh well, I’ll be happy with what I can get.
I see nothing has changed since the publication of the first Harry Potter books. The UK editions still always superior. Let the crazy hunting and collecting and begging traveling friends for favors commence!
Waterstone has international shipping! Just pre-ordered. It’s so pretty! So excited that they picked it up.
Really? I got the impression from the ordering site that they couldn’t ship to the US due to tariffs and other conflicts.
I think I need to buy a hardcover book. Immediately. Must find someone living in England that I can send it to….
The covers and edges are beautiful.
I wanted to share a link to Sketchplanations. Today’s sketch is describing something that Ilona wrote about several years ago. Tsundoku – a collecting books because it makes you happy to be surrounded by them.
I love how the Sketchplanation drawings illustrate ideas and concepts with clarity.

Bookcase as wine cellar: YES!!! (Although in the spirit of the article, I’ll clarify that the original quote described the books themselves as the wine cellar.)
My lifetime wine consumption (traditional champagne toasts excluded) totals less than two liters, sangria included. But I’ve read enough about wine to approve this metaphor. By this standard, my wine cellars are extensive enough to serve as the setting for a decent mystery/crime novel or work of speculative fiction.
Does the UK version have UK spelling and other tiny changes? Just curious.
No 🙂 Maggie is an American heroine and the book is in first-person, it would not make sense for her to speak in British English.
I almost exclusively read ebooks but these are all so beautiful I was inspired to check and see if I could borrow a copy from my library when the time comes.. and my tiny local library already has 2 copies on order! This book is gonna be huge. Big thank you to Tor for increasing the broader visibility of my favorite authors.
Resistance is futile!
If a US person wanted…say, one of each? Would I, er they, be able to go to a local bookstore to order each of the pretties?
My niece and her husband live in the UK and they preordered the special Waterstones edition for me!
Damn. I really love the darker UK versions, but alas, living in the US, you just can’t get there from here these days. Still, the turquoise page ends are pretty. I am so excited for this book to come out. Even more exciting: I am finally in my own place again after many years and am going to start buying *physical* books again! Woo hoo! This book might not only be my first new hardcover book in over a decade but my first new physical book in almost that long.
Boo. Australia is getting the boring blue edges. I guess I will have to order from the UK… *cringes at the postage and conversion rate*
Hi Maya, Australia should be getting the U.K. cover, which retailer are you looking at? Can you post a link pls? 🙂
Proud to have pre-ordered all three. Now I am waiting for the SEs, which I know one of the book box subscriptions will come from *happy chuckle*
Could I ask if there will be any other UK editions apart from Waterstones? I was really hoping one of the book subs there would do something with it.
There is the main U.K. hardcover, with different side edges 🙂, and the U.K. paperback.
I cannot yet confirm anything on the special book boxes editions.
Thank you. Hopefully it’s just about keeping this secret, not about there not being any. I’m actually keeping one subscription only in the hope that they will do this book.
I saw the pictures before I read the transcript and my first thought was ‘ooh I like the second version with the darker tones and edge’.
Then I realised it was the British version and they went darker cos…. I guess it matches our weather so we feel more at home??
Anyway good to see I’m getting my favourite version here
Wow! UK Waterstones edition is gorgeous!
I already pre ordered so how can I get a signed copy?
So beautiful!! 🩵
Does “gilded” mean the Waterstones exclusive edition will have foiled/shiny sprayed edges?? So happy for you guys! ☺️
Why is Kindle saying it’s $0? Are you really selling for nothing?
The free extended preview of This Kingdom, which will be released on the 27th of January, and is the size of a long novella is $0 🙂 . https://ilona-andrews.com/blog/augustine-cover-reveal-this-kingdom-preview-preorder-and-this-kingdom-goes-to-spain/
The extended preview is not the entire book. The whole of This Kingdom, which is 480 pages long, will be released on March 31st and the price depends on retail, but is fair market cost.
If you look at the Kindle entry you’re asking about, you will see the title is “This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me: Free Extended Preview” by Ilona Andrews and it also has a big “Extended Preview” sticker on the cover 🙂
Thx
Can’t wait to read this next book!
Hey guys, I just wanted to alert you to the fact that I was sent a notice that the Kindle version of this book is available for $0.00 on Amazon and I went there and purchased it to see if that was really true. I don’t think you want to be selling me that book for zero dollars and I’m happy to pay what you need. But I wanted to let you know that I got that from Amazon. Sorry if that’s bad news.
Crap I should’ve read up never mind
It’s a free extended preview and should say so in the title 🙂
The UK versions make the US version look lame. Just saying…
I love the Waterstones edition, but I wonder if there will be unexpected high tariffs once it gets to the U.S.
