I come with the promissed reminder about the Imagine Books preorder for their resale edition of This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me, which is now live.
What is a resale edition?
Imagine Books are purchasing the hardcover teal-edged edition directly from the publisher, then creating a redesigned, double-sided dust jacket with foiling, page overlays and bookmarks with character art.

A page overlay is a semi-transparent illustrated sheet designed to be placed inside the book over a specific page — essentially a removable full-page art print tied to a scene.
This is a limited run and Imagine Books typically do not offer reprints. It is open to everyone and does not require subscription. Before you ask: yes, there are two more US special editions not yet announced officially. I cannot speak about them, do not mine me for information, I am bound by contract.

Do you know if there is a cutoff date for ordering this version, ModR? I want to wait to see what the other special editions look like before I make my pick, but might change my mind if there’s a quick cutoff date.
It’s a limited run, and preorders will close when the stock is exhausted. So not a cut-off date, as such.

We crouch in readiness to pounce upon the news of future preciouses whenever it comes. That’s what I’m calling w*iting from now on-the longer, cat-oriented version will help pass the time until pouncing. Anyone else have other ways of saying that take longer/are fun?

The shortenings do tend to come out more when we’re tired though 🤣

Aah, you guys, have you seen the page overlay featured on the imaginebooks edition page under the dustjackets? I think it depicts Reynald! Or the MMC! It’s either or both! Lol.
I was also thinking Reynald, but u never know…
Well, the art shows a swordsman, and for that character class, the only candidates from the first 20% of This Kingdom (i.e. the extended preview) are Reynald and, for accuracy’s sake, Ramond vi Everard (though he only cropped up for one hot second).
Of course, more swordsmasters might show up later on, so yeah, u never know.
I zoomed in to try to read the page and see if that gave a clue, but no such luck. It was a page from “Pride and Prejudice”. 🤣 They are onto the ways of the BDH.
As another option, could it be Solentine? I imagine he might carry a sword as well? Just throwing that out there. 🤷♀️
Can’t be Solentine. His character class is assassin (or rogue, in RPG-speak), and his representative weapon would be daggers (see his short story) or the likes (small and fast hidden weapons). Also, the hair color doesn’t match (if the page overlay is an accurate depiction of the character it represents).
LOL I did the same with zooming on the page 😆
For those curious about other US special editions, Owlcrate readers are pretty certain that This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me will be their April Fantasy book. You would need a subscription for that. Obviously Ilona Andrews and Mod R cannot confirm or deny that at this time, but it’s something to keep in mind if you are considering your options!

Ok, it’s official. The BDH has absorbed me into the whole. Resistance is futile.
Now I’m reading the extended preview again and again, crossing off days until my pre-order ships, and my book addiction is begging me to order every version of This Kingdom as it comes out. They are all so beautiful! (Sigh)

I preordered the print edition and audiobook as soon as those went live. Now I’m debating if I want to buy different editions of the same book for different cover art. What a wonderful problem to have. Thank you Mod R and HA for adding whimsy back to my days.

I think I heard mention of Innkeeper also this year once Maggie 2 is finished.
Is Inheritance considered part of the Innkeeper world or just adjacent similar to how George amd Co link Innkeeper and the Edge series but they are very separate series?

Beautifully moody and atmospheric artwork! Every time I see one of these new book options, I’m so tempted. Then I remind myself that I’m old, with a fixed income, have a house full of books already, and have not purchased new physical books in several years! Kudos to the Author Lords for inspiring this furor!

Well, I booked their newsletter, didn’t get a message despite that (or any email for that matter), and now it’s already sold out. It’s not the end of the world, but that could have been handled a bit better by Imagine Books, I think. And that’s not a complaint to you – definitely not your fault or responsibility either. But I think it’s good if you know how different companies handle this for possible future books.
I did get a couple error statements yesterday that showed the problems were not us heh.
It’s a beautiful edition. I find I still prefer one of the UK editions at the moment. That said, it’s actually a tad annoying not knowing what the other US editions are going to look like so we can decide which we’d prefer. I’ve not pre ordered the hard copy for that very reason.

i’m with Katherine M. old and have way too many books. i’ve been buying ebooks for several years (easier to hide). I would love to have a physical copy of any of the Hidden Legacy or Innkeeper books with the fancy covers and edges and foil. Got the Mina(someone) illustrated copy of a couple of the Harry Potters and love them. Of course with ebooks- as I drive down to Houston this week,I’m safe in the knowledge that I have 2000+ books with me.
