Greeting, oh terrifying and mighty Horde! We are trying to finalize the Sushi items for the merch store, and we need your opinions. We are terribly excited because Leesha Hannigan had time for more art. Feast your eyes upon this mug. Woo!
Before you ask, the Leaf Water is the reference to the map. The back of the map that went out with the vellum packs had a Tour of Kair Toren by Sushi. Here is what she had to say about tea.

Humans go here to sit around. Other humans bring them water with nasty leaves in it, and they drink it. Sometimes they make funny noises and die. Don’t drink the leaf water.
We carry two categories of merch: POD and local.
Print on Demand merch is mugs, T-shirts, and mouse pads/desk mats. They are produced through different vendors, and we usually do not see the product that’s actually shipped. POD is more expensive to make and gives us a very narrow margin, but because the items are printed as ordered, we don’t have to invest in the inventory, and if something goes wrong in shipping, Printify works with the vendors to replace the shipment free of charge to us. So it’s less money but less hassle.
Local merch like vellum and stickers are printed by us, and we have an actual inventory of it. It’s slightly more hassle, but also a lot more profitable for us, and we can actually eyeball every item that goes out.
We will have Sushi mugs and deskmats available through the store, but this post is mostly about the local merch. We will try to have tumblers as well, but they are so expensive that honestly, the more reasonable option would be a vinyl sticker which you could stick on your existing tumbler.
Here is our dilemma: we would like to offer you a Sushi sticker sheet. These are vinyl stickers, the same type as in the vellum pack. To safely ship these stickers to you, we have two options.
Option 1: a bubble mailer with a cardboard insert, stickers securely packed into a clear sleeve. Your shipping cost: probably around $7-9.
Option 2: we attempt to fit the stickers into a postcard envelope. We would probably print a postcard, stick the sticker sheet into it, and pray it gets there in one piece. Shipping would be free for you, but I’m very iffy on the contents actually surviving this method of delivery and I am not sure this will work. We would have to test.
We would like to make Option 1 more attractive for you, because nobody want to pay $20 for some stickers, so we are trying to put together a Sushi pack. Basically we can stuff the bubble mailer with stuff and as long as it’s under 1lb in weight, we should be at the same mailing cost. We will charge more for the final pack, but if you are a Sushi fan, this would be the most cost-effective option for the swag.
The question is, what can we put into the envelope?
We have this keychain.
We have magnets, although we may have to rethink the size. Also magnets are a little heavier.
What else would you like? We can do bookmarks, we can do a Sushi vellum (Gordon thought people might like that,) we can do pins. We will definitely include a bookplate, because it already has Sushi on it.
We can probably reprint the map, if you guys missed out, but Becka will also be putting out a digital pack with the maps. We can also do a thing where we print Helena’s stickers, with her characters from This Kingdom, and you get two sticker sheets in the pack.
(Also, yes, I will ask Leesha if she will do Ferret Heist art. I don’t know what her availability is like or if she would be interested.)

I already spent my money on the vellum but very excited for others to get merch! Honestly I’d be most interested in shirts since apparently none of my clothes fit anymore but I realize that’s not in the cards right now.
Idk if others in the Horde have been influenced into the planner/journal space like I have, but my first thought for small light weight merch was washi tape, especially if you stick to the smaller sizes (ie. <= 15mm in width).

Hello. Someone before me mentioned a calendar and that would be awesome using illustrations from any of the Ilona Andrews worlds, but is there any chance at all of a Sushi plush?

I love small tote bags like the ones they have in out of print. Durable canvas bags. I use them for work/ purse. Would especially love more kate Daniels things or sword things. Maybe a collection of the swords used in your books? I also love the ferret heist and want to see more of that please too. I like the little blank notebooks too as i use them a lot.

This is likely absurd, but I would buy a dozen Sushi door hinge toppers. Little colored acrylic Sushis keeping an eye on me from the top of my door hinges would give me a boost every time I saw them. They would definitely be small and sturdy enough to fit into a mailer with minimal fuss!

What a great idea, this is the first I’ve heard of these things.
First, I am 77 so really no merchandise for me. I am trying to downsize. Maybe a tee shirt or a mug but nothing else. I did buy the vellum. I usually buy your books in hardback if available, kindle, audio and graphic audio. I just want to live long enough to read about Dina finding her parents, and the second Hugh book. These are life goals. Thank you sincerely for your wonderful writing. I have enjoyed reading all of it and look forward to whatever comes next.

Bookplates!! Or straight out heavy-paper printed postcards that I can frame! Or put on my fridge with magnets I already own. I’m a cheap (sad, but true) e-consumer of books and while I love all biblio-coded merch, I want art I can display around my house. Or workplace. And VINYL stickers!! I’m curious about the book cover. Is it just a print of what came with the book? I picked it because I am all about special stuff, and if it is just what I already have I can frame it so either way it works for me. But I was a bit confused about the description.

What about starting an embroidered patch series? I would love to embellish something I already own, like a sweatshirt or jacket, with patches of any of the characters, but especially those from TKWNKM.
(Even though I still have well-read copies of everything from Rose and Declan on forward, I adore TKWNKM. I named my long-arm quilting machine Magrefondetta, also known as Marvelous Maggie.)
One great thing about patches is that they are reusable so can be moved to another garment or object. They require very basic hand-stitching to apply.

Just a thought for shipping, maybe put sticker sheet (gently rolled), key chain, and other small merch in a plastic or thermal tumbler, which will protect smaller things in transit…(I have received somewhat fragile items in a rolled T-shirt packed tightly inside a plastic water bottle, shipped in a layer of bubble wrap, all arrived in great shape) Deskmats make great padding too.
Ferret merch, Hugh and other characters, and PLEASE re-offer vellum and maps for TKWNKM. Vellum for Iron Covenant (!!!) would be the bomb, and The Breach Wars Art would be great as Vellum or any other format.

as a former postal worker I’ll add my 2 cents…. if the postcard mailer isn’t any thicker than a standard greeting card, it will usually be safe. BUT, the automated machines that sort letter mail WILL sometime ‘eat’ a mail piece.

As for the postcart idea: for 2 years I recived (Poland) Christmas postcard from Canada in envelope and it came ok. 🙂
I also sent postcards home from Asia without envelope and all of them were undamaged. I think that if it is standard sized envelope set postcard + stickers (possible boommark) it should be fine. Via regular mail, nothing fancy.

I love having choices! I think you could get away with both options. I used to mail a slightly lumpy product in a thicker envelope and it shipped fine with just the paper insert and the product. It was under 2 ounces total so was the cost of a stamp plus an extra ounce. You can also request that they aren’t machine processed at the post office. I used to write ‘Non-machine’ on the envelope but not sure if that’s still best practice.

Often, when you buy a sticker set at the store, you get multiple sheets of the same stickers. Is that a cost effective option here?

“Something else I will list in the comments”: The Vellum Pack because I missed it waiting for the EU option and would use a forwarder this time. Any vellums would be great, for example ones for the editions by Arcane Society. Also the map that used to be part of the pack.

I am ok with either method of Sushi delivery. I can say that I buy stickers from another author regularly and the postcard envelopes have never shown up destroyed (honestly, the smaller envelopes survive our postal carrier than the big ones that they try to wedge into our box). But if there’s a chance to keychains and pins, I’m in too!
I know it’s probably not feasible, but you know what I miss? PHONE CHARMS. Whatever happened to phone charms?
Other Sushi merch: a cardstock or thin plastic double sided standing image of Sushi that has a fold-out bottom/stand to make it a self standing desk display/decor item. I recommend having two Sushi prints for variety and random selection for the gift packs.

A) Super impressed by your fortitude to even think about reopening the merch store after the overwhelming flood of vellum orders that came in last time. Which I must admit I enjoyed watching tick up with the morbid fascination of a bystander unaffected by the effort required to push the tide back out.
B) I would love a chance to get the map! I think it was only bundled with the vellum last time and I was hoping to just get it by itself 😊

I will be happy with any options. I am more likely these days to go for the stickers. My laptop gets stickers, my current favorite water bottle gets stickers. I do like the flat bendy magnets as well to stick on the refrigerator or on the sides of my metal desk organizers.
I frequently buy stickers from a vendor in Australia. Im in Arizona. They arrive in a regular envelope, no plastic or padding, and they have always been completely undamaged. Just saying.

The calendar sounds so nice, but maybe a desk size or the size of the book/vellum, not the huge ones. The art work was super nice w the vellum so a calendar around that size could be really nice. So much use for a smaller size, like the free one insurance companies give out around the holidays size? I would pay for a TKWNkM calendar. BUT don’t take time away from finishing the books! We need more TKWNKM!! And sushi plush would be great! Not huge tho? Maybe little bigger than beanie babies? (Remember those haha)
Other series would be Kate Daniels. Still a favorite. I would Love Love Love a calendar that highlights all the series. Different month, different series character or location.
It would be super cool to get vellums I could put in the Arcane Society books I bought. No pressure though. Maybe when the next Kate Daniels world or Hidden Legacy books come out (whenever it happens).
Just reread Iron and Blood. Some incredible scenes in there. And preordered Blood Heir from GA so I’m excited for that. Been a couple years since I’ve reread them and didn’t realize how much I’d missed Kate’s world.

I don’t often buy merch (budget constraints). I happen to need a key chain so don’t think this has to be added to your inventory. I did buy Beast Business mug only because this old lady crushes on Augustine like a teenager ~Kudos to the artist Helena Elias.

Also, I missed the vellum drop for Maggie and really, really want these. I love vellum in any books! If you expand on these to other series, Hidden Legacy would be amazing.
I’m from EU, and I’ll probably try a forwarding service this time since it’s starting to seem unlikely thst we’ll have a chance to get them overseas otherwise. If you are sure you will find a way to ship those to us, please tell us again when you open the shop. I have no problem at all with waiting another few months, but if there is a chance that it won’t happen, then I prefer knowing now and just pay for the expensive shipping.

Ok, this post went up yesterday, but wanted to ask if Maggie did indeed create massive interest in other IA series like Kate, Dina, Edge or Hidden Legacy? Iirc there’s a royalty statement out near the end of the year, has it been received yet?
I see people asking about reading order frequently on the web but my idea of frequently is nowhere near the massive response Tor or the other publisher would respect.

I would love little plastic figures from any series! Also recently read Inheritance and the Inkeeper series and would absolutely LOVE merch from both! Vellum of the Inn would be EPIC! I missed the Vellums before and keep checking the store to see if it is back because I have never gotten something like it and it would be amazing!

I have to wear a badge at work. I loooooove those retractable badge holder thingies that have a clip you can put on your person (i think lots of nurses have a need for these because there are always nurse-themed versions of this). And the badge holder thingy. It is the rectangle that you put your badge in. Right now I have one that has a mixtape image on it.

I’m in Canada, so I didn’t do the poll. If shipping outside the U.S. and/or print on demand in Canada becomes an option then stickers for home/travel mugs are always great. Love the idea of bookmarks!
I don’t remember if this has been suggested or not yet; iron on vinyl is flat and light. I personally love buying iron on vinyl designs because I put them on my own things (so it always fits). The ones I buy look similar to the velum sheets. My recent ones are from Michaels. I don’t know how to include a pic, but my favorite says “Crazy Yarn Lady” the sheet is 4″ x 4″, the picture is appr. 2.5″ x 3.5″. I would think it would reduce sizing, color, and shipping cost issues as well (but I haven’t done any research on it).
Pins, flat magnets, key chains, and patches are also awesome. I am also liking the idea someone suggested about a pattern for making Sushi (or any animal friend) from any of the books.
