“What’s the number again?”
“555-RUMORS”
“Who’s dialing, I can’t see?”
“It’s Steve. And you’re treading on my feet.”
“Sorry! Tell him to put it on speaker so we can hear in the back.”
Beep beep beep.
“Welcome to the Book Rumors hotline. If you’ve been waiting for longer than seven years, please press 1 for our WHEN?! team. If you’re calling on behalf of a horde, please press 2. If you or your beloved characters have been affected by a cliffhanger…”
“Press 2, Steve. Tell him to press 2!”
Beep.
“We’re sorry. All our piloted vampires are busy right now. Your call is important to us. Please remain fluffy and on the line.
You are listening to Chernobog FM. Where we play nothing but chants, chants, chants. Coming to you straight from Nav, this is not your old volhv patriarch’s station!“
“What’s going on?”
“OMG, we’re on hold. Will you stop stepping on my toes?”
Hugh: Hello, this is the Book Rumor Hotline. You’re through to Hugh d’Ambray, how can I help?
“Yes, hello. This is the Book Devouring Horde. BIG fans of yours. We want to know, if your second book is already written, how come it’s being held back?”
Hugh: My second book is not already written. Sometimes, when a Horde and an author love each other very much, they will make a sequel. Mine is coming, next year they say. I’ve found that the best way is to be nonchalant.
“We cannot do nonchalant, we are very CHALANT! What if all the series are finishing?!”
Hugh: Deep breaths. All the series are not finishing. Mine will continue, so will the Innkeepers. The Kinsmen world hasn’t lost contact. There’s a newcomer called Maggie I can’t tell you anything about, but if you could see me right now, you could observe my patented Warlord Wink. My niece, Julie, will also eventually get that Metal Rose business of hers sorted out.
“Isn’t Julie more your cousin twice removed?”
Hugh: You know, speaking of rumors, I was never actually that good at the removal business. She’s family. There’s some Wilmington 3 basis that needs to be laid out, and then you’ll hear from her too.
Look, it’s not a big mystery. If you go to the Release Schedule, all the series that ended have a “Finished/ Finished for now” status. If it doesn’t say that, then that storyline will go on.
“So wait, no more Hidden Legacy? Can Arabella’s story not be written because the publishers own the world?”
Hugh: None of the worlds are owned by anyone else. The authors could write a book on Nevada and Rogan right now if they so wanted. They’re just happy with how that series ended. But they might return to it in the further future, look at Kate getting her Happy Ever After Adventures after, what was it, 5 years?
“Sorry, I think Steve short-circuited when you said “Nevada and Rogan book”. Go lay down, Steve. Someone get him some water. But we heard The Edge was sold and was going to be continued by someone else!”
Hugh: Pure fabrication. Probably put about by that pervert, Saiman. We, the characters, have an exclusivity contract with Ilona and Gordon. None of the series will be sold off to ghost writers or written by anyone else. Series just have to end sometimes, to make way for new ones. The Edge is one of them.
“‘We are crops. We must grow, thrive, flourish, and die, to make room for other living creatures. Such is life.’”
Hugh: Heh. That sounds like the pagan prince of darkness himself, if I’m any guess.
“Yes, Roman! He’s like a dreamy Disney princess….”
“He is *totally* hot dark Snow White.”
“I think more twisted Cinderella, he has all those helpful critters. They might make him a volhv robe for the Chernoball.”
“Either way, he looks SO good in a tiara!”
Hugh: Thank you so much for having this conversation in my hearing. I’m never going to let him live any of it down.
“What about the Mystery Project? When is that happening?”
Hugh: I have an update here somewhere… Ah, yes: ‘We invite the Horde to meditate on the meaning of the word ‘mystery’.’ Used to get this type of stuff from Roland all the time. There will be a wait.
“EXCUSE ME?!”
Hugh: I said I believe you will have to be patient.
“Well, I NEVER! Sorry, I’ve just…I’ve never been spoken to in that way before. I’m not accustomed to such extreme language. But you’re used to the battlefield, you probably can’t help it. It’s cool. Cool cool cool. Speaking of, has anyone been in touch with your audio narrator?”

Hehehe, at least that’s how I imagine it would go. Happy Thursday, Horde!
Kira says
Ha, ha, ha, snort!
Yes, Mod R, this seems about right.
I emailed an author once, many years ago. I can only imagine that interaction multiplied by the horde. And now we have text messaging and apps and even more ways to demand our answers! 😝
Thank you Mod R and thank you HA for your patience with, and for, us.
We are ever so grateful. Really.
Sondra says
Loved it! Mod R you always put a smile on my face even when you tell us to wait! As you know, it’s just so hard to wait when you love something so much!
Kathleen says
Happy Thursday to you as well! Great post.
Katherine M in Austin says
Thank you for the grins, dear Mod-R!
Teresa says
So awesome!
Nancy Weaver says
Hugh can handle hordes quite well. Glad we didn’t get Julie on that call.
Rita Paolantonio says
Omggg now I’m imagining Julie’s conversation 🤣🤣
Rita Paolantonio says
“We invite the Horde to meditate on the meaning of the word ‘mystery’.”
Never! 🤣🤣🤣 seriously tho Mod R, we are trying to be as patient as possible but it’s just so hard!! I always want more Ilona Andrews and rereading all their books for a 4th time (or 6th time) just isn’t enough!
Sabrina says
“Sometimes, when a Horde and author love each other very much, they will make a sequel.”
Wahahahahahahaha you made my day ModR! ❤️
Anna L says
This is absolutely amazing and I want more Chernobog FM, my friends already accuse me of mot singing but just chanting
J D says
Inspired by this post, I made my own spin on a Chernobog station on Pandora: https://pandora.app.link/DihLdQxZTIb
Instead of chanting, it’s based on Russian folk metal groups. Hope that meets with the Horde’s approval.
kIm Hurt says
Thanks 💕

This was such an entertaining update! I hope that means Ilona is feeling better. At the risk of opening myself to threats of violence, I’m prepared to wait. However long. Thank you House Andrews, so very much!
Moderator R says
Ilona is recovering well, thank you for asking! There will be an update tomorrow 😊
Patricia Schlorke says
Yay!
Tom says
Loved it, thank you!
And you awoke one of my favourite language questions – why don’t we use certain words… chalant… ert… (Wouldn’t ert a fly doesn’t count!)… it’s so annoying from a logical point of view!
Sharla says
Ha! Patien e is a virtue but the BDH has more of a mob mentality with the concept of waiting 😉
Thank you Mod R – that was a fun scolding! And I love your new image- but are your critters evil enough?
Continue with good healing vibes to HA.
Moderator R says
Oh no, 0 scold intended! Scold contient non-existent.
Just wanted to make some clarification/announcements fun ☺️
laura says
i recently found out gruntled is a word too! the opposite of disgruntled, to be gruntled is to be in a good happy mood, to be content.

Love that – will have to try and use it next week!

Michelle S says
Omg this is delightful! Thank you for sharing. Loved every second of the read. Hilarious!

Moderator R says
Awwww, it wasn’t meant in that tone AT ALL!
jewelwing says
“We are very CHALANT!” That *begs* to be on some kind of merch. Possibly with Grendel making puppy dog eyes. Or hellhound eyes. Maybe both. Whatever!

That was amazing Mod R! I was cracking up through it all – thanks for starting my day with a grin! 🥰
You are a wonderful writer and I love your sense of humor! You should, if not already, write a book of your own.
M. says
I was about to say the exact same thing. Great post, Mod R.
Lyn says
Has anyone checked on Steve?
Moderator R says
He’s emotionally compromised for a little bit 😀
Patricia Schlorke says
I think he had to take a long nap to recover. 😀
Lynn M says
I think Roman and Finn as taking care of him now. 🤣
Vicki LENOIR says
It’s not Steve as in Steve West, the aforementioned voice of Hugh? I mean, there’s no way you would have done that kind of link/reference?
Moderator R says
No, it’s Steve of Fus Roh Dah fame 🙂 https://ilona-andrews.com/blog/fandom-tea-party-2/
Sivi says
this is brilliant, thank you very much and this is definitely how it would go
Raye says
Bwa-ha-ha! I also am Chalant, but I will leave all timelines to HA. Thanks, Mod R! This was perfect!

Mod R, this is brilliant! And how Chernobog is invoked when you write 😉
It’s a ChernoBlog now!
Moderator R says
Bwahahaha, ChernoBlog!
Cher-no-bog, he’s our man!
If he can’t smite them, no one can!
GO CHERNY! GO CHERNY! GO CHERNY!
Patricia Schlorke says
👏👏👏👏
For whatever reason. this kept going through my head:
There once was a god named Cherny
Who had a priest who was learning
There was a mix up with the sons when the father had fun
And one of the sons left on a gurney.
😁
jewelwing says
This is most excellent. For form’s sake, the third line should be split after “sons” to make it a standard limerick.
Angela says
lol mod r

agree with the 555-rumors merch maybe with a #mystery #BDH and the Horde logo in between?

Any my candidate for a mug in the next store release:
“BDH: We cannot do nonchalant, we are very CHALANT!”
I’m trying to think of a way to make “PATIENCE is two 4-letter words work” somehow.
Patricia Schlorke says
Wait is a four-letter word. That’s another swear word of the Horde.
Kristi says
Squee!
Carol says
Thank you ! I needed to smile and this was it!
Jessi says

Viv says
“Sometimes, when a Horde and an author love each other very much, they will make a sequel.” You can and should put this on a t-shirt. Also now I have this picture of cinderoman getting a make-over with his critters stuck in my head.
Kelly says
Honestly. Thank you so much. I’m laughing out loud on the train from London to Cambridge. I feel thoroughly ashamed of myself and am suitably chastened. Patience is a virtue. 🤪🤦♀️
Moderator R says
Oh no, no chastising. The Preceptor was so gentle! 😉
Minna says
Yes, very well played. Amazing Hugh coming out to play – yay!
Sjik says
So cool to have picked Hugh as the voice for this type of Hotline. I can totally picture him as running this type of gig at their castle, walking between the ranks, taking on calls at random to be the model of good leadership. And really, poor Steve, that is too much news to handle. Mod R, we love you you are just the bestest at getting to the heart of us. Thank you for a full week of posts, it must be a lot of work but it is much appreciated. This is a fun space to be.
Tanya says
Snort. Laugh. Snortlaugh. Mod R you provided such phenomenal entertainment! Seriously! You should be a writer! Either amazing stories OR stand up comedy! Also, I foresee this “hotline” being a hot commodity in the BDH canon. Hope the lady of House Andrews continues to heal.
Sleepy says
hahahaha some people’s imaginations are wild!
This did actually lead me to figure out what “X cousin twice removed means”! I’ve always never quite figured it out before

Barring interactions with Steve, I will just not so patiently live my life until the next release.
This is one method to keep prayers for your good health going strong. I pity those who have let their writing go stale.

Julene Warwick says
that was awesome.
Mariam Zama says
I love this, and love how you and the author lords keep your sense of humour in the face of our needs. Thank you!
Norbert says
I know there was something I really wanted to ask about the mystery book… wait Mod-R, what are you doing with that strange flashlight???
Bzzzz
Where am I? Who are you people?
Ona Jo-Ellan Bass says
Sigh. It’s all your fault, you know. If you didn’t write such wonderful, memorable characters that feel like family, we wouldn’t whine, whimper, rage, and howl about getting the next one. Here’s how I think it goes: Julie, if you can’t write to your mother, would you please let your grandfather or your aunt know how you are doing? Have you and that wolf sorted out your differences yet? Dina, please send your parents’ picture to all related universes, and a few more besides. We know they have to be out there somewhere. Arabella, we can all hope for guest appearances. You never know…You could hitch a ride with Jack, now that his brother is a staid married man. Or there might be a new world…or six, or seven…Whatever you write, I promise to buy it and read it. Meanwhile, wishing you good health, happiness, and all other wonderful things.
a says
This made me snort laugh.
Patricia Schlorke says
I am lost in giggle land right now. First with work, and now reading this post. My stomach hurts with all this laughing.
I lost it when I read “EXCUSE ME?!” and the rant after that. That sounds like the Horde.
Thanks Mod R for keeping me in giggle land. 🤭🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Tempest says
ModR, you spoil us. And how well you know the fluffy, chalant Horde. I imagine someone shrieking in the background, “ASK TO TALK TO HIS SUPERVISOR!” But yeah, that’s totally us crowding around the phone for answers. We’ll probably meditate like sugar-high toddlers. I was still for 10 seconds straight!
Liz.v says

Thanks for the update, Mod R. You have an encyclopedic knowledge of all things HA, you keep us entertained and informed, and keep us corralled for HA. I feel that we’re lucky to have you as the moderator for the blog!
Moderator R says
I’m most definitely the lucky one! Who gets to have as much fun at work as I do 😀
Gail Lefkowitz says
Please consider something relating to “hot dark Snow White” and “more like twisted Cinderella, he has all those critters” for the merch updates. I nearly plotzed. 🤣🤣🤣
Sharon says
Well, that phone call burned my fingers. Hugh, you rascal, you.
Maggie says
How many emails do you get per day with this stuff? I need some perspective. I feel like I’m a proud member of the BDH, but I’ve never reached out with a question about what or when or who. I think I’m just of the Rothfuss generation where we’re grateful for any book crumbs. HA are actually very generous with releases and info. As a toddler growing up in Kentucky, I frequently heard the saying: “you git what you git and you don’t throw a fit.” Maybe you should just make that your email auto reply??
Moderator R says
Every email means someone loves the same books I do and want to know about my faves! I’m more than happy to answer 😀 I just want to make it fun sometimes and the Horde indulges me 😀
Lynn says
I have been waiting since 1997 for “The Captal’s Tower” and “A Song of Ice and Fire” was suppose to be a trilogy. There are a couple of other authors who I am sure will never finish their series. Some because of age and some for other reasons.
The Horde does not realize how good they have it.
We not only get completed series but get nice little desert stories as well. Not to mention the occasional cream tea. Mmmmmm Wilmington… So tasty… Yes, I do believe I can find room for another.
wingednike says
I am still waiting for the last book in LJ Smith’s Nightworld series. she disappeared for a while and there were no internet updates at the time. She resurfaced for a little bit when “Vampire Diaries” became a popular TV show but she seems to be gone again.
I’m glad we get all the updates that we do from both HA and Mod R.
gingko-girl says
Snort!
Thanks for turning our obsessiveness into on the nose humor!
You all should be given knighthood, or sainted, or . . . something!
Thank you for your creativity and great patience.
JDB says
I would definitely light a candle at the alter of St. Mod R.
Arezoo says
Oh this was very funny. 😂 Hugh must be enjoying a lot of free time if he’s answering the hotline!
I have a question for the Hotline: who and how can I contact Graphic Audio to demand that they also buy the rights to adapt all the side character stories?!
Because I need the Andrea book to be adapted and later I will need the Hugh books to be adapted. I feel they are essential to my well being ! My completionist attitude is already despairing that we didn’t get the first Andrea short story. I’m close to tears about it so please hotline helpers and specially the lovely wonderful hardworking Mod R, how can I help make it happen?🥺
Moderator R says
You can tell them through their contact form https://graphicaudio.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/200766697-How-do-I-contact-GraphicAudio or on their social media 🙂
Arezoo says
Thank you 🤩🥰🫂
Arezoo says
I contacted them on Twitter – they gave me a stock answer of ‘we might do that in future’
Can we call the mighty horde to all tweet at them to do gunmetal magic?😁😈 It might force them to!

Oooh my belly!! 😂😂😂

Finally, is he Julie’s horse’s Sire?
(I like horsies. Can you tell?)

Thank you, ModR. This made me feel so fluffy and gruntled.

As an afterthought, regarding “We cannot do nonchalant, we are very CHALANT!”
It turns out that we, the BDH, definitely are chalant — when etymology is considered. From the Online Etymology Dictionary:
nonchalant (adj.)
also non-chalant, “indifferent, unconcerned, careless, cool,” 1734, from French nonchalant “careless, indifferent,” present participle of nonchaloir “be indifferent to, have no concern for” (13c.), from non- “not” (see non-) + chaloir “have concern for,” ultimately from Latin calere “be hot” (from PIE root *kele- (1) “warm”). French chaland “customer, client” is of the same origin. Related: Nonchalantly.

Thank you. Our 87 year old came out of intensive care yesterday — now with 2 coronary stents after the heart attack he had in his hospital bed (and no one noticed at first) after the removal of the raptured stomach ulcer for which he went initially into hospital for… He was so lucky 🍀 I hope he keeps recovering with out much problems.
Now only my Mums really bad leg pain, which no one can find the reason for; and my nail bed inflammation that I have now for a over month and despite antibiotics and cutting it open seems to stay inflamed… less now than before but still slightly so… but that is so trivial compared to our senior’s issues…
jewelwing says
That is a lot. Your issue is still stressful, and you already have enough stress to go on with. Best wishes to you and your family.

Hahaha. This is amazing. I look forward to mysteries revealed in their due time! And reading the blog and re-reading IA novels in the meantime. 😊
Allyson says
I was reading the blog while pouring tea and had to stop to sponge off my IPad because of a bout of giggles. Somebody get Steve a paper bag and an aspirin. 😂
mdy says
Oooh. This bit made me sit up and take note:
“My niece, Julie, will also eventually get that Metal Rose business of hers sorted out.”
#TeamMetalRose all the way!
mdy says
Also, I revisited the Kate and Curran texts (found via the Release Schedule) and had a good guffaw at this burn directed at Rogan:
“Curran: I served my people for seventeen years. You, with all your money, can’t even buy a shirt so you don’t run around naked on your covers. People are now pasting things to cover you up. You’re an embarrassment.”
Sue S. says
That was hilarious and immensely entertaining! Thank you for having such continued creative minds. I marvel at how authors have these worlds they build and expand upon and continue to write so creatively about. It’s what makes it so much fun to escape into the world of books. The characters are real and we love them!!!!!!!!
Laura George says
But … I want more HIDDEN LEGACIES! I want Arabella’s story! I want more about the whole family including Granny in the tank! This world! This family! More!
Sorry to sound demanding. Will retreat quietly to corner now.
Carey says
I gotta say Steve wasn’t the only one who short circuited when he heard the possibility of another Nevada & Rogan book 😉😁🤗
Mary Bowles says

Rue says

Karen Vanic says
Mod-R, we love you even when you keep us waiting. 😁
Rhonda says
I was cracking up as I read this! All I could think was did someone in the Horde ask to develop patience?
That’s never a good idea…
Jim says
GREATNESS

Ellen C. says
Hilarious!😂 I needed that today!
Mardee says
Ha ha, I laughed out loud at this (but also took in ALL the information!). And I think that “chalant” may be my new favorite adjective.
Thanks for the funny!
Shannon says
Haha! Great post.
I’m a fairly new member of your horde, having read my first Ilona Andrews book last year. I’m trying to pace myself, so I still have the Edge Series, some Kinsmen, and a few Kate Daniels novellas and offshoot novels to read before feeling truly desperate.
Judy Schultheis says
They stand up exceedingly well to re-reading. You won’t feel desperate for years, believe me!
Alice says
Thanks that was fun and funny!
Anh-Thu says
This was HILARIOUS!! Thank you, you’ve really made my day!
Ann says
🤣 Thank you so much for that!
Have a wonderful weekend!

“You are listening to Chernobog FM. Where we play nothing but chants, chants, chants.” I died
Cynthia Fowles says
While I love all the books, I am rapidly becoming enamored of the book updates! Nonchalant/chalant…
Please keep them coming. They always make me chuckle.
Also, success of getting the teenage grandsons hooked on The innkeeper series. They are impatiently awaiting the next graphic novel. And yes, I pointed them towards my bookshelves.
Keep doing what you’re doing.
Emilye says
This. Is. Hysterical!
Mod R, thank you so much for holding the fort!
I&G, keep on healing.
(The BDH is chalant about all things HA, and we need to give y’all breathing room)
Thank you for all the sequels and offshoots and imaginary things!
bill from NJ says
I have one comment about Roman, if it goes to graphic audio I vote Ilona does the voice of Roman’s mom. Having had the honor of hearing her speak in person and when streaming, only she can do the mom justice, especially the “I was 18 hours in labor with you and you don’t call?” *lol*.
Bea says
++100 OMG hilarious if ilona does the voice of Roman’s mom. Now I can’t get that out of my head😏. And Gordon can be Luther!!!😂
Sons says
Omg! THANK YOU!!!! This has got to be one of your Top Ten Funniest Posts! Much appreciated today
Liesl says
+1
I was struggling not to laugh because at this time of year that leads to coughing and imminent suffocation. I managed to keep it to small giggles… barely.
Steve L says
Awesome sauce! thanks for this. I do get excited but never impatient. If I miss a character I restart from the beginning for reread 50th time. Long live house Andrews, You are well loved my multitudes!
Asabí says
Haaaaaaa! I needed this in the worst way. Wonderfully written. Thanks for the updates, references and patience with us. We’re a ravenous bunch.
.
Wishing you continued healing on all levels. Take your time. You body has been through a lot. Have a wonderful weekend’
Simonne says
I’m imagining a cartoon now of the Horde placing this call. A crowd with lots of word bubbles saying “Wait is a four-letter word,” “Put it on speaker,” “He looks SO good in a tiara,” and “You’re treading on my feet.”
If someone draws it, it could make it into the merch store? 😉
Janet Bardsley says
I demand to speak to the Manager! The words Next Year and Mystery aren’t acceptable!😂
Heather says
Omg this was just delightful. 😂🥰
Lori says
Even though I must wait for the next book, this is just one example of why your writing is worth the wait!
Pam says
Not sure which would look better on t-shirt:
Fluffy chalant barsumials?
or
Chalant fluffy barsumials?
Moderator R says
Fluffy+ Chalant= FLUFFANT!
Barsumial Fluffant sounds like something David Attenborough usually looks into 🤣
Kathryn Hauschild says
what a wonderful call in line!
Leslie Sexton says

I didn’t hear/read anything after “Kinsmen”. I have re-read the Kinsmen story so so many times! I had fully given up on any continuation, so this genuinely made my week👏
So exciting!
AndrewC says
ROTFLMAO! Thank you, and take a bow. Well done!
Monica says
One of the best. This was priceless and made me laugh.
kristin says
Delightful! A little late to comment so I may not get an answer – I thought Maggie’s story WAS the mystery story. Is it not? As in there’s another mystery story?! Like Jessica Fletcher, I love a good mystery. 🙂
Ken Hughes says
Of course. Of course it would be.
And yes, sometimes an urgent call goes straight to call-waiting Nav… but that’s the chants you have to take.
Anna says
“All good things come to he who waits” or something like that… but no meditating, philosophying, etc… makes the waiting easier.
However throwing a tantrum (we’re very CHALANT !) doesn’t make the waiting shorter.
Speaking for myself, my real beef with waiting is that I’m sooooo happy to finally get my greedy hands and eyes on whatever book gets out that I read all night and am a wreck at work the next day. Whoever thought that tuesday was the best day for releasing a book has never waited for it.
I’m not much into merch but “I’m very CHALANT !” might make me rethink that stand
Best wishes to Ilona, gallbladder stones are definitely horrible
KT says
I second the “we’re very CHALANT” – BDH merch!!
Prospero says
As usual you toy with us as to the wonderfulness that is coming. Having read the Kate Daniels series very much from the beginning and of course Innkeeper as well I am well aware that being patient leads to amazing gifts and that poking and prodding authors can lead to ripper cushions. Thank you for all you have given us already. I look forward to the new ones as they arrive
Brightfae says
That was delightful!! Thank you for the loud laughs!!
Mina says
„Sometimes, when a Horde and an author love each other very much…“ 😂😂😂

Hi,i have a question ,i put that here because i don t know where else….in the lastof hidden legacy, when they went to the archive, they bargain and it is written”i withdraw my objection, i will not hinder…” what is it à out please?
Moderator R says
Linus is not objecting to Record Keeper Michael pursuing Arabella 🙂
Heather says
Here I am, being all cool and reserved going into the post…
More Kinsmen? Please!
I&M 2? Yes?
Metal Rose resolved? SQUEEEEE!!!!!!
ChelleyPam says
Truthfully, I adore Arabella and I cannot deny curiosity over what brave soul would have the courage to fall in love with that adorable rage monster. Still…I’m more curious about Leon. What’s the age difference between him and Alessandro’s sisters again? Because a pairing between Leon and someone with magic like Alessandro could result in perfect murder babies.
She’d have to be a sci-fi nerd. Obviously.
