Happy Wednesday, Horde!

I’m hosting a little Book Bingo morning to get us through the week hump.

The rules are simple. Tick off every square that applies to you. The central Curran square is free, because the Consort is ever merciful.

  • Five in a row – across, down, or diagonal – and you have BINGO
  • Fill the whole sheet and you have DEVOUR-ALL

You get to brag with your total in the comments and the prize of knowing that you are part of the greatest Horde ever!

A few notes for anyone who needs them:

BDH stands for Book Devouring Horde, the affectionate collective name for Ilona Andrews readers.

HA means House Andrews, aka Ilona and Gordon.

Ship/shipping is a fandom term for a character romance you root for, whether confirmed on the page or not.

    Also my entire family says Ripper Cushions IRL. And when I go to the bookstores my youngest says mom is hoarding because she is part of a Horde. He is 12 and enjoying puns and dad jokes 🤣🤣

    • DEVOUR-ALL is a lifestyle – but you may wish to consider joining the Dushegub division of the Horde

    • I have 3 Bingos and 12 total – no Horde member is lowly! We just pretend to rearrange the squares and take a second count…👍

  9. I definitely met the devour all only struggled with the audio correction block because Graphic Audio has done such a great job and I have found so little to correct.

    BDH truism: I try to stick to checking the blog on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays which is usually a surer bet but my brain says What if I miss a post so I check everyday. (Smile)

  20. Several bingos but only 20: I love reading fan theories, hearing from the foodies, supporting all requests for sequels, staying vertical through snippets and keeping my feet firmly on the ground with “cliffhangers”. 😁

  23. Wow. Thought there would be some I hadn’t achieved… Yet, gleefully, I find I’m more hardcore–I mean chant–than I ever would have guessed! I got them all! So is the prize for Devour-All character art? Of our favorite ships? Hee, hee, see!

    • Me too! I don’t mind a cliffhanger since I know HA will provide the next book with answers (and maybe another cliffhanger 😏).

    • Nope. And, honestly guys, it was only a LITTLE cliffhanger! The story arc for the book is complete. We KNOW Maggie is the UNDYING. We KNOW there are two more books to come. It was just a little teaser to keep us on the reread trail!

    Alas, I did not cover the board:-( I only heard free stories in my mind and then lament their loss when they are archived.

    I am also a hold out from GA and audiobooks. That way there is something I can look forward to when/if I am no longer able to read traditionally.

  34. DEVOUR-ALL!! My competitive little heart and loves-to-check-things- off personality felt completely seen and valued by this bingo. My son has the Ripper Cushion pillow and we say it all the time in our home. HA is quoted in our house as much as The Princess Bride and Willow.

    • Princess Bride & Willow are very quotable! Monty Python, especially The Holy Grail, also gets a lot of quoting air time in our house 😁

    • After the This Kingdom hangover, I listened to the audiobooks for HL for the 1st time : The narrator in Ruby says “green” instead of “black” about Catalina’s wings. I felt so smug that I knew the mistake/ yes, ridiculous and unbelievable😂 To be fair, the Catalina narrator is actually very good.

    Scored a respectable 21. Cliffhangers are considered Chapter 1 of the next book – so a preview of sorts. And audio books have me saying, oh, THAT’S how you pronounce it?!?!

  60. I just wanted to note that the accessibility options access is now via a round button in the bottom right corner of the screen. At least this is how it now displays for me, using an iPad. The accessibility options used to be on the left, in more of a dropdown list as I recall. This changed within the last few weeks. The good news is the text size, which is the one I use, still works just fine. I truly appreciate how these options have always been so well integrated and easy to use on this site.

    • It’s still in the upper left on desktop, I don’t have an iPad so didn’t realise it had changed 🙂 – WordPress has had an update a few weeks ago!

  61. Lol! 24, but it probably would have been 25 if I used audio books. I 100% believes that counts as reading, but the words don’t stick in my head like they should.

    Two mentions: Hard to double order when the site I utilize tells me already own it.🙂
    I do not do Easter. The few others I don’t have/I do not do aren’t worth mentioning.

    EVERY time I read “here kitty kitty” I lose it.

    • That’s why “tried” is the operative word there 🙂 – if the website had to remind you that it’s already done, it counts!

  65. I have taught my daughter of a sensitive age (who curses way more than I do) that w*it is a four letter word. It’s really helpful for wading into emotional regulation in a fun way!

    • oh, and *tried* to preorder?! please! audiobook, kindle, and dead tree of Maggie thankyouverymuch. A horde member on the go has needs!

      • Tried to *double* preorder. As in already had the preorder done but still attempted to preorder it again “just in case” every time the button showed up hehe 😀

  71. BINGO! This was on point! I JUST finished the Hidden Legacy series Nevada & Catalina and I – for the 1st time have gotten really interested in Arabella! I know many fans saw her potential as the MFC but mostly saw her as a humerus side character with some strengths but mostly immature and comic strip heroine. Maybe I’ve warmed up to her after Beast Business? (Nice development of Augustine btw because he was a jerk for years.) But after my Catalina reread- I’m actually rooting for her legacy trilogy + Michael!

  72. I got six Bingo’s and was an annoying three squares away from Devour All; I don’t do spoilers or audio books and I love a reread but not the same book instantly – I like to percolate for a moment.

  83. Hmmm, I didn’t lose it at Kitty Kitty, I am stoic. Does emailing audible and graphicaudio for corrections to poorly edited audio delays count? And I have not yet been contacted by a recruiter. Where is Steve with clipboard and the pamphlets? Where are my “come join us” emails? And I don’t TRY to double pre-order, I do it! I triple preorder (ebook, normal audio, GraphicAudio); that counts as instabingo right?

  84. Missed a few- I don’t do audio, so I can’t correct the audio narrator; I don’t immediately reread because I have a high recall; I can’t afford several different formats of books. Everything else is pretty much spot on, but due to placement, I only got 6.

  86. The audio question was the only one that was a bit sketchy for me. I didn’t correct a narrator but I did discover the appropriate pronunciation of a character name from a narrator. I’m going to count it. BDH for the win!

    Well… as a new member of the BDH I got 18 (or was that 19 -brain is not working today!!). I haven’t read all HA’s books yet as Maggie was my intro book, but I’ve since bought Inheritance and the complete Innkeeeper and Hidden Legacy series, so I can devour these while I have to w*it p*tiently before I buy the rest (read: I’m broke now lol! 😅💸)
    I don’t listen to audiobooks so I’m never gonna get DEVOUR-ALL, but I did pretty good I reckon ( or does that mean I’m showing serious signs of needing help already?) 😋🍴

    • Welcome to the Horde! Mod R is wonderful keeping all of use wrangled when needed. However, I think secretly she lets us loose on a lot more occasions than she lets on. 😉

  128. Did not fill the whole sheet, but my 14 (plus the merciful Consort!) clearly make a glyph. Now, to figure out the words and gestures and surely HA will—not write faster, but stop being interrupted by health problems! We need them to stay healthy!

    I’m firmly entrenched in all things BDH and plan to stay that way.
    This is a happy place for me and so many others, well worth the love, care, and respect to keep it this way.
    We can never thank HA and Mod R. enough for the curated happy space they give to us so we buy the books, all the books in different formats, because they are just that amazing, and then re-read them, when new ones appear we hit the pre-orders twice (at least), plus all the other bingo things, and will continue to do so.

A combination of immersive reading (digital and physical) and activities using a different part of my brain. Sadly, I relate that Kristen once spoke “Silven” instead of “Silveren”.

    But if HA is taking requests…. I would absolutely love more Kate & Curran (favorite ship), Julie & Derrick, and more Willmington books.

  145. Just finished listening to Inheritance( yes, listen so I can craft and indulge in great stories). Love the two voice story telling. I do have some questions though and they may be spoilers…..

    Please excuse spelling errors – listening does not give you visual clues to spelling….

    The grey capes… sounds familiar…..

    Interesting Bahachar reference…. and a certain attitude towards a certain merchant…. (laughed at that!)

    Loved it all – can’t wait to see what happens next – please say there will be a sequel!

  151. Audio narrator : it’s baba yaGA and baBUshka – every single narrator says baba YAga and BAbushka. I cringe every single time.

    I only do e-books, so there went the multiple format and correcting the audio narrator.
    I check the blog 2-3 times a week
    I strongly believe side-characters are side-characters for a reason. I don’t need their entire backstory, I don’t need their POV so I’ll never ask for it. Although I will read and immensely enjoy their POV when it’s offered.
    I skip recepies because I hate to cook.
    I don’t enjoy cliffhangers, but I don’t run from them either.
