Add my voice to the chorus here– the cover is fantastic!
Dave_5k says
That is amazing!
– Recognizable real Atlanta skyline (with some modest post-apocalypse wear and tear);
– Kate the merc! In real working clothes!
– Slayer!
No lion, but as this is Kate 1 it’s quite appropriate to leave him off (sorry Curran).
Shannon from Texas says
I love seeing Slayer, too! It appears to show the visible part of the blade as bone instead of steel, even.
I love when a cover artist seems to have read the book, or at least talked to someone who has, instead of just going with the blurb. Not many do, but there’s a reason why Micheal Whelan’s covers (McCaffrey’s early Pern books, Heinlein’s _Friday_, so many others, are truly Art, not just illustrations.
(I had several posters of his work on my teenage bedroom walls. I wish I still had them, thumbtack holes and all.)
I would love to know the artist’s name…
Laurence says
Wow, I think I’ll buy it, although my husband is going to say I have enough books at home to start a book store…
and I’ll leave a great review on the different French websites selling it.

Oh I remember seeing the French ones on Amazon and reading the synopses curiously. But the old covers were kind of meh if I remember. I speak French fluently and I always wonder how translators deal with English urban fantasy jargon. I just read a review on French Amazon and looks like the translator kept it pretty literal for a lot of stuff, I’m finding them pretty hilarious only because I am not used to seeing those words used like that. Publisher says they will keep the old translator but go over the current ones so looks like some of that could be cleaned up.
I might buy some of them out of curiosity to compare to the English translation. Absolutely loving the cover too, in my head if Kate Daniels ever became a TV show, that’s what the promotional poster would look like to a tee.
Pika says
I’m French and I just still think they can’t really deal correctly with “English urban fantasy jargon” (What I hate the most is when they actually dare to change character’s names…). Sometimes, they can’t even find a proper translation to the title (so they just change it for something far different. Understandable… But why not just let the title be what it is ?!)) That’s why, I always read the books in the original language first, to have all the correct clues and names.
But well, this time, they have the right title and a magnificient cover *-*’ (In fact, I prefer by far this cover than the original one *==>[] hide*).
Connie says
Fantastic cover! Love it.
Maddox says
That cover is beautiful and a really good representation of the book. It’d be fun to see the different covers from different countries all lined up to see how much they vary.
Kathryn says
c’est magnifique 🙂
Patricia Schlorke says
I agree. 😀
nicole s says
oh la la!
Susan says
Love the cover ❤❤❤!! Awesome
diane says
That cover is perfection! just beautiful and so on point.
Barbara says
Congratulations on your continuing success with Kate and co. Congratulations, too, to the person/people who designed the cover – it’s stunning!
Tink says
Loving the cover, too. I especially like it when they put the number of the book in the series on the cover. When I pull a book out to re-read, I turn the next book on its side so it’s easier to remember where to return the book. Wouldn’t have to do that if book number was on the cover. Although I wonder how they’ll handle Andrea’s story? Does that become Kate Daniels Universe 1 or Kate Daniels 3.5 (4.5?) or Kate Daniels 4 (5?; can’t remember where it falls in the timeline).
I’m not familiar enough with Atlanta’s skyline to recognize it, but I do see what looks like some chunks missing from two buildings on the right. The one really tall one seems to be too tall given that the magic makes buildings fall, but I’ll let that slide because I love the rest of the covers.
Bonus is, no one can comment on whether that looks like Kate or not because you can’t see her face!
Lee says
Ha! the really tall one is Saiman’s building ~
Wonderful news and a wonderful cover! Congratulations to you both.
Tink says
I thought that, too, but didn’t the book said the magic used to keep it standing made it look like a giant rock? Or maybe that was just when the flare was approaching…
sarafina says
If you read the announcement comments, it is said there are ruins on the skyline with one non-damaged building. It’s not a photograph, after all. Some artistic license was used.
Olivier says
Great news, my children will be able to read the fifth book finally, they are really exited 😀
And the cover is great, I think I will buy them again to support the serie!
Pat Sciarini says
That is gorgeous! Makes me want to buy them all over again!
ShellyB says
Love the cover. LOVE! The artist did a fantastic job. I’m going to pretend that tall building is Saiman’s, since it is protected by magic and is still standing tall in the books.
Noel says
I love this — so pretty.
JB says
What a lovely cover! Congratulations on being published in France.
Amélie says
Wow the cover is soooo beautiful! <3
Zealith says
Beautiful cover. It kind of looks like a YA cover to me, but it would definitely get me to read the back if I saw it in the bookstore.
J says
I love all your covers – but this is what I imagined when I first read the words “Here kitty kitty.”
MissK says
Oh yea, you’re right. Thanks for pointing that out. This is a great cover for a book that’s going on the screen (TV or movie). It lets them pick any actress.
Christine says
That cover should marry and give birth to the next in the series. It is lovely! ♡
PS I hope the series is well received in France ☺
cmc says
Congratulations you two!
What an amazing cover! 😀
jewelwing says
What a fabulous cover! Now I just need to figure out wth “morsure” means, because I’m pretty sure it’s not what it sounds like in English.
Amelie says
It is almost a literal translation of the English title. “Morsure” is the noun form of a bite. Magic bite or magical bite in the noun form, magique is the adjective form of magic. They didn’t use the verb like in English (mordre) because “La magie mord” which literally “magic bites” would sound kind of stupid. Morsure magique is okay but it isn’t great. I don’t love the French title and usually if the title is hard to translate they’ll change it completely (sometimes replacing it with another English title) like they do for American movies which can lead to… interesting results. The Hangover became “Very Bad Trip” and Step Up became “Sexy Dance.” (Not joking.)
Jenette says
Wow, that is a gorgeous cover! Congrats to you.
Shannon from Florida says
Magique! Cover was beautiful and I did get a kick out of the Facebook translation into English.
Susan says
It’s so interesting to see the foreign covers, isn’t it–their perceptions of the books, what sells in their markets, etc. This cover is especially lovely.
MissK says
Great cover. Leaves her features to the imagination. But of course, I love it for other reasons too.
Samantha says
Absolutely stunning. Makes it hard not to hate the French with them making exquisite style look so effortless. I am burning with envy. Of course I can just buy the book and stop bellyaching. Yup gotta plan.
UlrikeDG says
I want that as a poster! 🙂
Tylikcat says
That’s just what I was thinking.
Rohaise says
Wow!
JenMo says
Why do the French do covers so well?
Charis N says
Just what I was thinking JenMo! Is that French style or what? Probably some poor schmuck in a basement in Peoria picked it out but I’m dreaming Luc Besson!….
Sue Padgett says
What a beautiful cover! They nailed it!
mel burns says
Gorgeous!
Ista says
It’s such a fabulous cover.

This wins all the cover art awards ever!!!!!
