Virtual Tour
The release of BLOOD HEIR is just around the corner. Normally, we would be arranging signings with bookstores. Unfortunately, COVID is still rampaging through the country, so we are home-bound but we still want to meet all of you and chat about the new book and what it means for the Kate Daniels universe.
We are doing two virtual appearances for the release of BLOOD HEIR. Both will be via zoom. There will be an FAQ and giveaways. 🙂 You don’t have to register, but it’s best that you do because attendance is limited. We tried to time the Saturday event so our European readers can join.
Tuesday, January 12, 7:00 pm Central.
Click here to register for Tuesday Release party
Saturday, January 16th, 12:00 pm Central.
Click here to register for Saturday After Party.
We are recording these zoom events and will make them available for viewing on YouTube, or so we hope. If you are unable to attend but would like to have your question answered live, please use the contact form and select Blood Heir Chat Question as your technical issue. Our moderator will look through the questions and select a few most common ones for us to answer.
Signed Copies of BLOOD HEIR
We have happy to announce that we partnered with a couple of independent bookstores to bring you signed copies of BLOOD HEIR. Because of COVID, “signed book” in this case will mean a book with a bookplate. BLOOD HEIR is self-published, so it will likely be the same size as IRON AND MAGIC or Innkeeper books. Here is what a bookplate will look like.
The price of the paperback is higher than the usual price of the mass market. This is due to it being a print on demand title. We try to keep our margins as low as we can.

We are giving away 3 copies of the Subterranean Collector edition of SMALL MAGICS. The giveaway is open to all readers.
The books are absolutely gorgeous, signed, and numbered.
To enter, post a comment on this blog about what you’re looking forward to most in 2021. The giveaway will end on Tuesday, January 12th and the lucky winners will be announced during Book Release Party and then posted on the blog.
If you commented and you don’t see your comment, don’t worry. Your comment is registered. We all collectively forgot that a new year started and our website host is caching the posts. This is being fixed. Please don’t comment twice. 🙂
Finally, we humbly ask you to please help us spread the word about Blood Heir’s release. We would like the book to succeed, so if you could mention it in your readers groups or social spaces, we are grateful.
And this concludes this massive publicity post.

Hi Ilona and Gordon, I wish to you and your family the best for 2021 ! I greatly enjoy your books and always hope for more of the Kate Daniels world. In fact, I read all of them twice and think of starting my third round soon. Through your blogs, I developed a kind of fondness for your family and, in fact, you are the only authors of whom I read all the posted blogs, although I receive blogs from many others. I’m quite passive, though, and never commented your blog. This is why this one is so long!
For 2021, regarding YOUR BOOKS, I hope to read book 2 of Hugh’s story as well as a new book in the Innkeeper’s chronicles (will Dina finally find her parents, or at least, learn what happened to them ?) Not to mention that I am waiting for my printed copy of Blood Heir to arrive to my door, so I can read it (and then, lend it to my son who also enjoys a lot Kate Daniels world). And I do hope that Julie/Aurelia’s story will be developed into a full series. I was horrified by the nasty comments trolls had said regarding Julie about two years ago and I am very very happy you decided to keep writing about her story regardless.
I want to mention how much I appreciated the finesse of the psychological development of Hugh’s descent in hell and of his coming back from it. As a mental health professional I can assess how truly accurate the description was.
I would be pleased if Hugh’s story and Innkeeper’s Chronicles, as well as Julie/Aurelia’s story, were translated in French, as many people around me (family and friends) do not read English.
Regarding THE WORLD, I do strongly hope that we will soon get rid of the Covid virus and resume a more normal life. Until then, I hope more people will understand how damaging and lethal that virus can be and learn to be more careful.
And, finally, regarding MY OWN LIFE, I hope that my oldest son’s family and I will find and share a multigenerational home so that I spend my retreated life very close to my grand-children. I now have a 12 months old grand-daughter who is absolutely the best child parents and grand-parents wish for. In fact, she grows too fast, almost like Conlan when he was that age, lol !. Here is a picture of her, at 11½ months old, “singing” along some young children animation on tv.
Thank you Ilona and Gordon for your work and for your blog sharing with us.
Jacqueline Comte says
About Hugh’s emotional descent in hell, I used the word “assess” while I should have used the word “confirm”. English is not my first language and it’s after I sent my message that I realised I didn’t use the right word for what I meant.

Wow. What to look forward to in 2021? Quite a few things. People getting along better and healing in all ways from the past year. Read more books. Better teaching people not to hate what they fear. Continue expanding of my library. Hope that our economy rebounds for all of us under the 1%. Hoping my husband’s writing takes off in the mini-stream. Hoping that small businesses rebound and really take off. Read more books. Yours and other authors that I have found and am enjoying immensely.
Wish you the best in this new year. May your ideas flow smoothly and your editing be easy.

I’m looking forward to many things in 2021, but the thing I’m most excited about is becoming a first-time homebuyer. I’m thrilled about the added space, safety, and privacy. I’m incredibly ready to have a large backyard for our doggo to zoom to her heart’s content, and our plan to get another pup soon after moving in. Lastly, I cannot wait to cook every day in the kitchen.
I’ve lived in small apartments for years, saving up for the day when we could get into a house, and I’m really looking forward to moving in.
Thanks for everything you do. ❤

What am I looking forward to in 2021?
My wish for 2021 is that it is BETTER than 2020. I am not hoping for good…simply better.
I’m looking forward to a year when I don’t have to tell my friends and coworkers they are being furloughed. I’m hoping for a year when I don’t spend Christmas morning and New Year’s in quarantine, separated from my children. I am wishing for a year when my children can hug their grandmother, rather than waving to her through a window.
I am looking forward to a better year than our last. It truly does not have to be good. Just better.
Marsha Parris says
Looking forward to traveling again.
Molly Hart says
2021 will be a year of healing and thanks for the ability to hug deeply ALL our loved ones

It is always the highlight of my day when I receive your posts.
In these times of confinement and limited human contact, reading your news both serious and hilarious is like meeting with cherished friends.
Your books are so great because in them humanity is present in all flavours, good and less good, with very little judgment and a great deal of insight from your part.
Thank you!

What I am looking for in 2021 is hopping it will be better than 2020. I quilt so my goal is to finish the projects I started and didn’t finish last year. I am also looking forward to reading as much as I can.(your books are at the top of the list) I would like to have an uneventful year, because last year was full of stuff that happened. I am hopeful that I will get a different job than the one I have now. I would like to think that I’m not asking for a lot this year.
Catherine T. says
Hello hello Ilona & Gordon! One thing I’m looking forward to this 2021 year is starting my journey as a New Grad Registered Nurse ????????⚕️ Unfortunately, I was Class of COVID so I didn’t have a chance to walk across the stage as a 1st gen college grad. However, as we try to move forward and rebuild from this time, I’m reminded of why I chose this profession. So I’m going to keep my head up, devour Blood Heir, and prep for my nursing orientation on 1/18/2021 ????????
✨Thank you for doing this little Small Magic’s Giveaway! Stay safe, stay strong✨
Elenariel says
What I look most for 2021 is to find out where I’m going to stay (massive renovations were planned, but it could end up I’ll need to find a new place) so that I can finally unbox my beloved fabrics and books: e-readers are great, but nothing can beat caressing spines and covers, leafing through the pages of your favorites finding all the bookmarks you left for particularly loved quotes!
And having space to finally sew again would be very helpful (financially too).
In the meantime, I can’t wait to download Blood Heir, and luckily it is only 2 days now! Going to reshare on Ig right away!
Eszter says
I am looking forward to going back to school, because I can’t learn properly at home and my final exams are coming nearer and nearer every day.

Hi,
Besides looking forward to Julie’s book I am looking forward to more time with my two teenagers. 2020 gave me more hours of one on one time with them at home starting in March 2020 to present day. I spent more time in ten months with them do to hybrid homeschooling made mandatory in NY then I could of spent with them in four full years with normal regular full day school with July and August summer vacation. But I wish almost 400,000 United States citizens didn’t have to die in ordet for my husband and I to get this extra time with our teenagers. I reread my entire book collection of all your series in past months I’m looking forward to what you have in store for Julie. We all want more of our lion beast lord in the future too! Wink

In 2021, I’m looking forward to getting back out there and exploring/hiking. There are so many places in my new state that I want to see and had planned to in 2020. Those plans were somewhat derailed thanks to the virus, so it’s back on for this year! In the meantime I am reading, reading and re-reading (guess whose books)!

I’m looking forward to seeing my grandson for the first time.

I am looking forward to the vaccine and a Mulligan on my 60th birthday. It would be great to celebrate with all my fellow rats (2020 was year of the rat). And I thank you for my early birthday Mulligan gift: Blood Heir.
Best wishes for health and success in 2021.

I am most looking forward to the release of Blood Heir this year. Don’t get me wrong, there’s lots to look forward to in 2021, goals have been set, vision boards created, etc. But, a new book by my favorite author? That’s like winning the lottery, going on vacation, dropping two dress sizes… you get the picture. And it’s pure pleasure, no work for me. The only downfall is that I’ll finish the book in about 4 hours and then have to find something else to look forward to for 2021. It’s a cross I’m willing to bear.
Ana says
There’s lots to look forward to in 2021, but I think what I am most looking forward is to get a vacancy to work as a teacher.
Thanks you all for your work, its amazing. I loove all your books you have an incredible imagination. Don’t stop writing please.
Best wishes for this 2021

Tuesday, Georgia elections. Wednesday, the inevitable, unbelievable, happened. I forgot about needing to make my comments for the SMALL MAGICS giveaway. Today, while reading about yarn, fabric, etc. (books, and the paper monster here), I realized that the giveaway ends tomorrow. Last chance!
I am sooo looking forward to the release, and the arrival of my copy of Blood Heir, this week. It is an immediate picker-upper that is needed now, more than ever.
Most of the other things I was thinking about are related to COVID-19, since that affects the economy, people in health distress, financial distress (food, shelter, etc), schooling distress, job and business loss, loss of tax revenue for public services, vaccine rollout, being able to visit family and friends. Hope for overcoming too many people not caring enough about others to wear masks, and social distance – but I realize that it is a symptom of what is going on across the U.S.. I had some hope that we could become more caring and compassionate of others in 2021.
Now, however, there is the non-COVID-19-related hope that, to help our democratic Nation heal, and prevent further treason and bloodshed, we will see/hear the members of both Houses of Congress speak the truth about the 2020 election. I’m afraid it is too much to hope that certain news sources will also begin to speak the truth. If President Trump’s loyal followers don’t understand and believe that President Trump’s claims of a landslide victory and stolen election are wishful thinking, not what happened, I fear that there will be repeated attempts to bring down our democratically elected government – I look forward to the truth, and acceptance of the truth, in 2021.

In 2021, I’m most looking forward to graduating from college. It will look a lot different than I’d always expected, but it’ll be the start of a new chapter of my life all the same! Hopefully we’ll all be able to get back to something resembling normal again soon. Your books have helped me get through some hard times and I just want to say thank you for writing them. Have a great year!

What I’m looking forward to most this year? If you would have asked me that about the last three years my answer would have been clear, there has always been one specific book that I had been desperately, anxiously waiting for, longing for for months or years. This year that’s not the case, which is a bit strange to me, but I’m excited for all the new (and beloved old) stories I’ll read nonetheless.
However, one of the things I’m looking forward to most is probably the new shelf I’m planning to get to have more space for my books. And the new wall decor I’ll be setting up in my favourite room. I always love to make my surroundings at home more beautiful. And starting a new important project I have been thinking about since probably 2018 or 2019. And seeing my friends again from face to face. We actually managed that only once in 2020 …
Wendy says
I’m looking forward to enough people getting the covid vaccine that it will be safe to resume “normal” life without worrying if the simple act of spending time with loved ones may kill them.

I’m looking forward to discovering new hobbies in 2021. I know this is something that most people started doing with lockdowns in 2020, but it’s a goal I’d like to have for 2021 to be consistent with at least 1 new hobby!
Another thing I’m really looking forward to in 2021… all the new books that will be released!
Clara says
Thank you for this! I’m of course really looking forward to seeing friends again but most of all, to personal growth and new accomplishments 🙂 I’m thrilled about a job opportunity I found, and hope to read more this year.
Elena says
Dear Ilona and Gordon,
The thing I actually want most for 2021 is change and health. Change for the world, for the people and for myself. And mental, social, physical and ethical health. I’ve been stagnating for far too long and I want to actively allow myself to hope and dare this year.
I am looking forward to the birthdays of my loved ones and to be able to celebrate them with them, because my mom will be 50 this year and that wants to be celebrated properly. 🙂
And as for pleasure, this year I hope to see at least once the sea and once mountains and always have a book from you with me. Because to be completely honest, and without wanting to come across as super slimy, you are my absolute favorite authors and I look forward to your stories as to hardly anything else. <3
So I will try not to devour Julie's story within a day and enjoy it more and even if I can't win Small Magics for myself (I know the probability is very low after all) I am very happy that it gave me the motivation and courage to write this long overdue, outrageously long comment. (Because I have never done something like this before).
I wish you only the best in the world and especially health for you and your loved ones.
And of course also for everyone who has struggled through my commentary up to here and everyone of us who proudly counts himself to the BDH.
– greetings from a girl from Germany, but born in Russia and who learned English mainly through your books, because she just could not wait for the German translations 😀
