I’ve had a rough night. It stormed very heavily, and Sookie the Old Bulldog decided to hide by my side of the bed breathing heavily. Between that and deafening peals of thunder, I must’ve woke up 5 times. ::looks at a cup of black tea:: Work, damn you.
And I am posting this much later and now the above paragraph makes it seem like I slept past noon. If only. I actually had to get up very early and go to the airport to apply for TSA PreCheck.
Mod R sent over a list of questions.
When will we be able to buy The Inheritance? (this year, this summer, even general estimations would be appreciated)
Should be this summer. I’m annoyed with it right now, because we were trying to finish it before the vacation next week, but doesn’t look like that’s going to happen. We may need another week. The Inheritance will be available in ebook, either by itself or as a part of a collection.
What is the release schedule?
A scene will be posted every Monday and Friday. Meaning that if Chapter 3 has two scenes in it, one will be up on Monday and the other on Friday.
Will it be a series? This is less a question and more an emphatic declaration…BARSA BARSA
I swear, Mod R is the worst series rumor enabler. Right now it is planned as a standalone.
Do I need to read other LitRPGs to get this?
I don’t think so. The Inheritance uses LitRPG tropes, but it interprets them in its own way. It doesn’t hit some of the more genre-specific LitRPG milestones such as system, levels, numerical stats, level overseers/observers, and so on. You should be safe.
So is Ada a pink lantern now?
Everyone by now knows about the Green Lanterns, which are a group of guardians policing the Galaxy in DC comics. They get their powers from a magic green ring. At some point DC decided to add more colors. There are Red, Orange, Yellow, Blue, Indigo and Violet, Black, White, and Ultraviolet powered by Emotional Electromagnetic Spectrum (???). Pink lanterns are part of the Violet Corps, and they are powered by love.
This is what happens when you try to squeeze as much out of a franchise as you can by writing too many sequels.
Ada is not powered by a pink lantern.

How long with this novella be?
Not sure yet. Maybe 35 K or so. We really do not want to cross into short novel territory. It does have its own folder now. It was in Short Stories folder, but now it has its own Dropbox folder, which is a sing that it’s turning into a bit more of a project. We will see. 35K for now.
A small note, because it’s been a little bit since the last serial
Mod R is there for when BDH needs real life help like when you are having technical difficulties. Please respect her time. If you have a story-related comment, please use the comment section instead. In other words, please do not email her to complain about fictional people.
But what about the theory I posted in the comments? Are you not going to say anything about it? It was a good theory!
Given that when BDH was presented with two men and a daughter, they defaulted to magical male pregnancy instead of adoption, nothing surprises me anymore. Bring it on!

No, London wasn’t saving the Earth, because the monsters cannot exit the gate and are trapped there. Melissa does not have telepathic powers. Being handsome does not make you a good person, and at the end of the last scene, there was only one being left alive in the cave who saw Ada being kind and could’ve said anything to her. You guys are so much fun. You think of so many interesting things.

The new story is starting out great and I was hoping we’d get to spend some time with Ada to get to know her world, her powers and her family.

Male pregnancy (mpreg in labels) is kind of a subgenre in mm fantasy romance/erótica novels. I ‘vê read lots.
I hope TSA pre-check application went smoothly. I applied right after the whole family went to our VA DMV after the pandemic to get our Real IDs, so I had all the paperwork (marriage license copy for name change). The agent was so impressed I actually had the correct paperwork!

I finally signed up for TSA precheck last year. I do not fly all that often, maybe once or twice a year, but second-BEST DECISION EVER! (Best decision was installing air conditioning). It was worth the $80-90 to get it done.

If anyone is looking for a fun streaming series to watch, I was yesterday days old before I ran across and fell in love with “Recipes for Love and Murder” – the opening credits are so lush and fraught – Orro would approve.
BDH already started. How many were pro London the first time he was introduced. Lol
“Recipes for Love and Murder” is my new binge! It’s keeping me going between episode drops for the latest season of “Brokenwood.” And those opening credits images are pure food porn with a shivery dash of vegetal violence.
p.s. If you haven’t watched “Brokenwood” yet, you have multiple seasons of a cozy murder series in a small NZ town, full of wacky characters, waiting for you!

GA’s Burn for Me dropped earlier today so I will try to stretch that out in between InBearitance (kudos to whomever started the name) posts.
Oh Miss Sookie!! Hugs, sweet girl! It sucks to be an old dog, especially when the weather makes the hairs in your ears react to changes in pressures, and that makes the storm sounds worse.
Our terrier mix would move the kitchen barricade that was anchored by a sewing machine and an electric typewriter, and hightail it up the stairs to my parents’ room during thunderstorms to wedge herself between them – that was her safe place. Twenty pounds of hyperventilation, hair, and bad breath that would peel the paint off the side of a battleship. Motherhood, whether human or fur children, should send you straight to sainthood!!
So The Inheritance could be part of a collection? With other authors or all IA content?

At the moment, the options are by itself or with other IA content- kind of like a Small Magics 2 🙂. But it’s still in concept phase.
I have to say, I am so glad you aren’t following whatever the heck is the normal way to do this type of genre. I haven’t ever played any video games, except pacman in my 20s. I just get anxious and overwhelmed immediately, so–no fun. No play. I was pretty worried I would struggle trying to read this, and so far–no, it’s very clear to follow.

Mr. Murray and I are leaving Sunday for 3 week trip. Bright line to Miami, then we board the Independence of the Seas for a 14 day transatlantic cruise, followed by a week in London. We are flying back to Orlando. I think we will use most every form of travel known to man on this jaunt!

Clarification question- why can’t the monsters leave? I know they destroyed the thing that created the portal, but the portal was still open for a bit more while they mined (up to 24 hours), right? Does somehow destroying the thing that creates the portal then make it only permeable to humans leaving? I missed something and would love an explanation please, BDH!
Regardless, no excuse for London doing what he did. He looked her straight dead in her eyes and left. After all the exposition about how rare her talent is, how his only job is to protect her, and KNOWING he can go out and lie about her already being dead or something and get away with it (no body cams, right?). So WRONG. Now IF body cams were in use, or even without, the way he acted was weird unless….. (crazy theory) it was a conspiracy of some kind to take down the whole mining through portals thing or her in particular or something? What’s the back story with her kids’ dad, did he set it up to get kids back? So many questions and things in my head!! Can’t wait for more!

The gate rules are clearly specified in Chapter 1, emphasis mine:
“Every breach had an anchor, a core that stabilized it. Once the breach appeared, the anchor began to accumulate energy. When it got enough, the gate would burn through the fabric of our reality and rip open, releasing the invaders into our world to rampage and murder everything they came across. The more dangerous the breach was, the longer it took to burst.
There was a brief period, anywhere from a few days to a few months from the moment the gate appeared, when the monsters couldn’t escape yet but we could enter the gate from our side. It gave us a chance to extinguish the anchor and collapse the breach. The moment a gate manifested, the clock started ticking.”
I randomly wake up several times a night for no good reason, so I feel your pain.

Sorry for the interrupted sleep!, but as usual the storm completely skipped me in South Austin. We have our own microclimate called edging into desert. My weeds are already browning and it’s not even May let alone June. Grrrrr

I recently lost my older cat.
I had not realized that my younger cat relied on her foster dad for reassurance that the thunder wouldn’t hurt her. Obviously now, she did – and I am not a good replacement for him. Poor baby.
I am sure she spent last night on the top shelf of my closet while the thunder and lightning put on a show here in Houston.
(There will be kittens soon to keep her company. I hope it helps…)

It’s our turn for the thunderstorms (Arizona). I love them, but the cats don’t. However, they express their disapproval by hiding under the bed in absolute silence, so… I kind of feel bad for them, I know they’re scared, but they’re not really in trouble and everytime I check on them they are all sleeping, so I go ahead and enjoy my thunderstorm.
