Don’t forget we will be there at Spicewood Branch of Austin Library tonight at 7:00 pm.

@ilona_andrews if Americans get a snippet for #ComeyTestimony, shouldn’t us Brits get one for #May being elected PM? This is stressful!
This snippet wasn’t supposed to be posted until next week, but the UK peeps are upset that May was elected as PM.
###
“When Baranovsky choked on his own blood and collapsed, nobody helped him,” I said. “Nobody screamed. Hundreds of Primes turned and calmly started walking toward the exit, because the mansion would be locked down and they didn’t want to be inconvenienced.”
I waited a moment to let it sink in.
“Primes won’t care that you are young. They won’t be kind. They will try to use us, manipulate us, or destroy us. You could be standing in the middle of the Assembly, and if a Prime summoned a pack of wild wolves to rip you to pieces, I’m not sure anyone would help. This would be our life.”
Their faces were grim. I was losing them. I expected that Mom wouldn’t be on my side, but I had to at least convince my sisters.
“But if we do this, we can build up our strength for three years,” I said. “Victoria is coming for us now. Right now. She’s in town. The only reason she isn’t attacking us is because Rogan’s people are fortified around us. She’d have to go through them, and she doesn’t want to start a fight with House Rogan unless she has to.”
“Pack your bags,” Mom said. “The five of you are leaving.”
“Mom?” Arabella stared at her. “We can’t leave.”
“Out of the question.” I knew she would react like this.
“I’m not quitting college,” Bern said.
“We aren’t leaving you!” Catalina’s voice spiked. “We are not abandoning you and Grandma!”
My mother put steel into her voice. “You heard me.”
“Where?” Grandma Frida asked, her voice so high, it sounded broken.
Mom turned to her.
“Where can you send them so that bitch doesn’t find them, Penelope? She knows what they look like. She knows their names. She knows their social security numbers. She can pull the truth out of anyone she meets. Where on the planet can you find a place where her money and power won’t reach?”
“Mom,” my mother said quietly, looking stunned.
“I told you twenty- six years ago that if you married him, you would pay the price. I told you to let him go. You didn’t listen. You raised them to fight. They’re not going to cut and run now.”
“They will do what I say,” Mom ground out. “I’m their mother.”
Grandma Frida squinted at her. “Aha. And how did that work out for me?”
Mom opened her mouth and clicked it shut.
“What’s involved in becoming a House?” Catalina asked.
“At least two of us will have to undergo the trials and register as Primes,” I said. “Most likely it will be you and me.”
My sister frowned. “What if I don’t qualify?”
“I’ll do it!” Arabella announced.
“No,” everyone said at the same time.
“Why not?”
“You know why not,” my mother said. “Don’t make me pull that documentary out again.”
My sister took a deep breath. Uh- oh.
“I’m not going to spend my life hiding. Nobody will ever see what I can do!” She pounded her small fist on the table. “I’m going to qualify.”
My mother’s face told me that I had to fix this fast or she would snap and try to send everyone into exile again.
“You can control your magic,” I said.
“Yes!” Arabella said.
“We know this but nobody else does. People are afraid, because the last person with your magic went crazy. The only way they’ll accept you is if all of us demonstrate that you have complete control over yourself, and we, as a family, have complete control of you. This takes time. If you give us these three years, by the end of it we’ll be established as a House. And then, at eighteen, you can qualify.”
“Nevada!” Mom snarled.
“But this also means that for the next three years all of us will be in the limelight,” I continued. “And you have to stop acting like an impulsive brat.”
“Yes,” Catalina piled on. “No more angry outbursts, no more screaming, no more punching people, or starting stupid shit on Twitter.”
Arabella crossed her arms on her chest. “Fine. But you promise me! You promise me right now that if I behave, I’ll qualify in three years.”
“I promise.”
My mother punched the table.
“So that’s where she gets it from,” Bern observed.
“What’s the alternative?” Grandma Frida asked Mom.
“Not getting locked away for life, where they would keep her constantly sedated,” Mom growled.
“There are some other formalities,” I said. “Everyone who is qualifying will have to give a DNA sample, so they can make sure we are all related. We’ll have to submit some paperwork, they will set the date for the trials, then we are tested, and if we qualify, we become a House.”
“That’s it?” Leon asked. “Yes.”
I put my hand on the stack of paperwork. “If we decide to do this, that’s it. There is no backing out.”
“What if we don’t qualify?” Catalina asked. “We’ll look like idiots who wanted to be Primes and fell short. Nobody would do business with us again.”
“We’ll qualify. I’m a Prime and so are you.”
“They might not even know what my magic is,” she insisted. “What if I permanently affect people? What if— ”
“Oh shut up,” Arabella told her. “You made an army of hired killers sit on the floor and listen to your story like they were in kindergarten. And they’re all fine now.”
“I want to register as well,” Bern said. “Maybe not as a Prime, but the last time they tested me, I was ten. I’m stronger now.”
Leon dramatically collapsed on the back of his chair. “Rub it in, all of you. You and your magic. I’ll just sit here with my dud self.”
I opened my mouth and shut it. Now wasn’t the time to spring it on him.
“Nevada, there has to be another way,” Mom said.
“I don’t know what that is,” I told her. “And neither does Rogan. If I knew of another way, I would take it, Mom. I promise you, I would. This is the only way we can keep all of us safe.”
“If we do this, we’ll never be safe,” Mom said.
“Things will never be the same if we do this.” That wasn’t exactly a response to what she said, but I had to keep going. “Which is why we have to vote as a family. We all share responsibility for this decision. Once we make it, nobody complains and everyone has to work together. Does anyone want to add anything?”
Silence.
“Everyone for becoming a House, raise your hands.” I held my hand up. Bern, Arabella, Leon, and Grandma.
“Everyone for running away and hiding?” Mom raised her hand. I looked at Catalina.
“I’m abstaining,” she said.
“You don’t get to abstain,” Arabella said. “For once in your life, make a decision!”
Catalina took a deep breath. “I vote for the House.”
“Fools,” my mother said. “I’ve raised a pack of idiots.”
“But we’re your idiots, Aunt Penelope,” Leon said.
I picked up the paperwork bristling with colored flags indicating signature lines. “I need all of you to sign.”
“Wait!” Grandma Frida grabbed her phone. “We must take a picture for posterity.”
They crowded into the shot around me. Grandma Frida set the phone on a delay and it snapped an image of all of them around me, the paperwork in front of me, a pen in my hand. Cold froze my stomach. I loved them so much. I just hoped I made the right call.
Kris says
I finished White Hot and then continued to these delicious snippets… love you, Authorlords, and thank you for relief from stressful politics.
So looking forward to Wildfire!
Teresa die hard fan says
Does it seem like Penelope knows an awful lot about primes and power. Has she been holding out on us?
Ms. Kim says
What an interesting idea. I’d like to know more about that.
Oshi says
She would be familiar with it from what her late husband has told her.
Beverly says
I wonder if she can be a prime also…she was in hiding for her family.?????
wont says
I think both Penelope and Grandma may be holding out. They did a pretty good job of keeping Nevada’s status secret. With the vicious history of Nevada’s dad, I can understand Penelope’s feelings toward Primes. But, it just seems too much to think that Nevada, Catalina, probably Arabella all being Primes, and maybe Leon, and not have Primes previously in the family. Just one would be a big deal, but three? Possibly four? There has to be some magical lineage information we are missing.
Carol says
I agree with that. I also think that there is a lot missing about Nevada’s father. I wouldn’t be surprised about anything unfolding from him.
Joan says
Bern + Leon are from Nevada’s mom’s side of the family (her sister’s children) and they are both Primes or at least Significants.
So it looks like Nevada and her 2 sisters get their power from their dad + Victoria’s side of the family AND from their mom + grandma’s.
sarafina says
We know nothing about the cousins’ fathers.
kelticat says
I issued a theory a few days ago about Prime families that may have decided not to join *high* society and thus were under the radar and throwing the tests to be certified lower. If Grandpa Leon was a member of a House, he could have been a prime. And fathered either primes or significants.
anainasia says
i been thinking that too – that maybe some of these powers don’t come all down from scary evil grandma – but from Penelope’s side and powers – there was something in these snippets – where I was – hmm “as if she had telepathy” or something like that – maybe the shooting is her minor skill?
Anne Schultz says
I think that some magical skills would be easier to conceal. The mental talents maybe easier. For example, the first time that Nevada remembers detecting a lie. Is when receiving a shot in a doctor’s office and grandmother telling her it wouldn’t hurt.
If a toddler piped up and said. ” It does to hurt, why did you lie?” I wouldn’t think lie detector— I’d think kids say the darnedest things.
We know that that they went to extreme levels with at least Neveda and Arabella by showing them movies about what would be their fate at an early age.
BryMarie92 says
I like this theory! Its logical so that Victoria and Dad are not super magically potent for producing primes.
Violet says
Oh wow! Thank You
Judy says
I live in Canada, alas life is mostly stress-free, so no blackmail items for snippets. lol
sarafina says
Speaking for myself, anyway, please enjoy our discomfort. Schaudenfreude, anyone?
Charis N. says
And you have THE JUSTIN it’s not fair – we have the orange one and Canada has the smart cute one.
Sean says
Did you see his date with Obama? Ahh I miss when the biggest issue was that our president wore a tan suit or only had one tux.
Gracie O'Neil says
I’m in New Zealand. Same. But thank you, Ilona and Gordon, for the snippets. I love, love love this series. (I love all your series but this one is extra special somehow. ❤️?❤️?❤️?)
Ange in Oz says
I’m from Australia. We (well, his own political party) got rid of our last idiot Prime Minister through established democratic processes. Any other Commonwealth country want their Prime Minister to make a “captain’s call” (???!!!) and bring back imperial honours (???!!!) and knight Prince Phillip for services (???!!!) to their country?
Whilst I’m not a fan of our current government, given the state of politics in a fair chunk rest of the world I’m not going to complain.
But thank you to the Authorlords for another snippet. You rock.
Rachel says
oh my that snippet helped with the UK election fall out- we now have the DUP and May… the next few months will be interesting…….[sobs]
Love, love, love to the Authorlords- we who are about to die (politically anyway and probably culturally too) salute you xx
Lisa says
At least you are not stuck with “The Donald Duck”
??
Donna says
Hey! That’s a bit offensive Lisa 🙁 What has poor Donald Duck ever done to be treated thus?
As for the manchild who is currently in the presidential office, USA voted for him… the media helped him with all the coverage they gave him and the republican party wanted to win. They need to experience the fallout to learn not to place someone who has no background in politics or a clue as to what it entails to lead a country in that position.
Thank you Autherlords for the snippet 😀
Patience says
Ah absolutely. I wonder if Anyone (on both sides of the aisle) is going to learn their lesson, or will they be arrogant/stupid enough to repeat it?
sarafina says
A valid question, Patience. I also think voting equipment needs to be standardized in this country, with a separate method of verification, whether paper ballots or some other method. No more using machines known to be hackable (Diebolt).
cheryl z says
This is getting too political for me, I need another snipet please.
kelticat says
Try calling him Donald Duck-lips. That way we won’t confuse him with a lovable cartoon character.
Teri says
Thank you soooo much. What a treat!
My imagination is racing.
Celeste says
Ohboy!Ohboy!Ohboy!Ohboy!
sarafina says
I did think it was strange Leon called Penelope aunt instead of Mom since she adopted him, but maybe Gisela hung around a lot when he was young.
Patience says
Good point.
Anne Schultz says
I wonder if Gisela will make appearance in Wildfire? Meeting her may give a solid clue re: the parentage of both boys and they might not have the same father.
MerryB says
Doesn’t BFM give the impression that the two boys do have different fathers?
sarafina says
Yes, and gave the impression they were losers, too. Maybe the dads’ magic skipped a generation and bloomed in their sons.
Leslie says
Thank you!! I love it
Lisa says
Oh my! Most definitely what I’ve been waiting for! I only wished Rogan was in the scene! ( as I do with every scene in these books ?❤️)
Lisa
Beverly says
I see Rogan marrying Nevada. .. not just fot the House thing. But for The Love of her and her family. …
Carol says
That would be great!!!!!!
Zirraella says
Oooh, you are so good to us <3
Angela says
Yes!
PyeCat says
How spoiled we’ve become: 3 new books in one year? 2 released within weeks of each other? Frequent snippets?
Authorlords, you’re good to us and we appreciate it. 🙂 Really looking forward to “Wildfire”.
Joan says
Bern + Leon are from Nevada’s mom’s side of the family (her sister’s children) and they are both Primes or at least Significants.
So it looks like Nevada and her 2 sisters get their power from their dad + Victoria’s side of the family AND from their mom + grandma’s.
Joan says
Sorry, thetc above comment was supposed to go after a different post but my Internet is acting up.
PyeCat I agree totally with you ?
John says
Thank you for this! I appreciate it a lot. But if you keep releasing snippets if something weird happens politically then trump will have the whole book out before it’s published haha
Patience says
Ha,ha…
Tina Black says
We will still buy it!
sarafina says
FYI Ilona only:
If there are audible books only people at the Library tonite I will be happy to let them read Wildfire Chapter 1 in my copy of White Hot. (While I stand no more than 6 feet from them.)
Peter says
When Bern was 10, what level did he test as?
Great books!
Beverly says
Good Question. ..????
kelticat says
I’m wondering how old Bern was when Penelope lost her license. Because if it was around the time that he tested, that gives a potentially icky scenario.
sarafina says
How so?
kelticat says
According to the FAQ’s Penelope lost her license after her sister showed up with a boyfriend and demanded that Penelope turn over the two boys. Penelope said no, boyfriend attacked her, she had a Rogan reaction and ended up arrested for attempted murder.
If the time line for this occurred after Bern tested, what was so special about Bern and Leon that a woman who’s described as nonmaternal wanted the children bad enough to attack her own sister?
Anne Schultz says
Where did you get this info? I don’t remember it as a part of story line.??????
kelticat says
Go to the series page and scroll down to the FAQ section. Apparently enough people asked why Penelope lost her license that the authorlords have a permanent answer to it.
Eliza says
No, I’m pretty sure Bern’s abilities and hacking skills have nothing to do with Penelope losing her PI License.
In the scene where Dr Arias is trying to warn Nevada off from going to Rogan, Nevada mentions/thinks about how a judge took away Penelope’s license on the grounds of PTSD, although in Nevada’s/Dr Arias view it was less that the veterans reacted because of PTSD, and more that they reacted (overreacted I guess compared to a normal persons response) as they did because of how they were trained to automatically react in certain situations, and after a period of time that becomes an in-built response.
Michelle says
I think the point is what level of power could he have had that might have precipited the confrontation. The question is whether it would be the equivalent of learning your kid is heir to a huge fortune and deciding you wanted custody so you could get your hands on the money.
I wonder is Gisela decided that her kid was going to be her meal ticket and when Penelope found out she flipped her grid.
sarafina says
That sounds possible, Michelle.
Rohaise says
Thank you for the snippet. Is it July 25th yet?
Elle says
The 25th is my birthday and I’m MORE excited about the book release.
Sorah says
Why don’t they just join House Tremiane with the condition that Nevada take over? Wouldn’t EG be so happy her House isnt dying that she’d let?
Also she hasnt mentioned to her family that Rogan might call the relationship off if she does this… I feel like that might come back to bite her!
Thanks! Love this series!
wiedzma_florentyna says
I don’t think either is realistic.
If EG is as much of a bitch as everybody claim her to be then the hell would freeze before she would submit to not being in total control.
And I don’t think Rogan is that selfless or/and stupid.
Also sight of her with another man would probably make his blood boil, so it wouldn’t last very long even if he tried.
(Sorry for any spelling mistakes)
Ange in Oz says
Remember the snippet with Grandma Frida’s knitting being saved from the blowtorch, and Rogan being put to good use scrapping frames because he wasnt coping watching Nevada on a “date”?
Dawn says
I wonder if for the public eye they have to pretend to separate, but are still together privately?
PaulaL says
White Hot has a widow discussing how his marriage was a marriage on convenience, and how both he and his wife had arrangements for having sex partners outside their marriage.
Sean says
Which Rogan has already said would be impossible for them.
Jess says
Plus it was mentioned in a previous snippet that if Nevada’s family did join the Tremaine House, Nevada believes that Victoria would make them do terrible things as the head of the House.
“She can do things with Catalina’s talent.” Unspeakable, ugly things. Things that would make my thoughtful, kind sister hate herself. “And if Arabella’s magic is discovered . . .”
Katrina says
Such pleasurable torment.
Susan says
In case no one else has said it already, we need the countdown thingy either on the main page or the top of the blog page! 🙂
Ms. Kim says
I second that suggestion.
BryMarie92 says
Third!
Trish Henry says
Wowzers! Stomach punch! Can hardly wait!!
Charis N. says
Is there a chance that their DNA is screwy? EG may have really mixed things up. hee hee
Naomi J says
They would at least all be related through their mother and aunt. So everyone in the house right now is related to grandma. And since Penolpe has adopted the boys and they are all Baylors I don’t think that’s going to be a problem.
Sean says
Until Leon is outed as the bastard son of a billionaire prime. That is going to make the DNA test a little awkward… theory only but Romance novels are not known for being subtle and Baranovsky keeps being brought up.
Carol says
Oh My Gosh! Wouldn’t that be something!
lynn says
Well, I will not be surprised if Leon turns out to be a Prime’s bastard son. Bernard either as apparently their mother was a bit of a free spirit. But I think Baranovsky had a child with Elena de Trevino. The youngest child who is now being raised by the money hungry Mr de Trevino who might have significant magic.
Joan says
Ooohhhh the plot thickens – DNA !!
We know Bernard + Leon’s mom but never any mention of their father(s) …
sarafina says
Oh WOW!!!! That’s right, if Baranovsky’s DNA is on record, and it probably is, FIREWORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nanik says
Thank you for this wonderful excerpt !!!
Carol says
Thank you for the wonderful snippets!
Kamrin says
OMG I can’t wait!!!!!! I absolutely love this series ❤
Stacy says
Thank you author lords, for another series that has me begging for more. I can’t pick a favorite among any of your series, they all are special in their worlds. Take that back, Hidden Legacy is winning at the moment, mainly due to the fact White Hot just came out and very close is Wildfire release. So thank you.
Kendran says
We are House Baylor, and we can do MANY things
Snakatac says
Spoiler alert
Is there any practical reason they couldn’t just join House Rogan? If joining Auggie’s House was an option, why not ask to join her Snoogy Woogums’ house!
Evil ?
Nifty says
Being House Rogan wouldn’t protect them. The whole thing about forming a new House is that they are protected for 3 years. That’s kind of “the rule.” Penelope doubts that that would stop Evil Grandma, but at least if they do become a house and EG violates the 3-year safety clause, that might stir up sentiment against her, and other Houses might be more willing to assist House Baylor…or at least NOT assist House Tremaine. And if EG does back off for the 3 years, then it gives the kids a chance to grow up. Catalina is already on the cusp of 18, but Arabella and Leon have 3 more years. So I could see how Nevada would go the House Baylor route to secure the 3-year safety clause and give her sister and cousin a chance to grow up without facing a daily barrage of threats.
Plus, I can see Nevada joining Rogan’s House through marriage or something like that, but I don’t see her joining his House just for protection. She’s too independent for that. AND she already knows she has his protection. As she said, he would do anything and everything for her. But she doesn’t want to be someone’s vassal.
Patience says
Just because GFH can’t attack House Baylor for 3 years doesn’t mean she can’t manipulate House Baylor in other ways. Primes are sneaky like that. I think Leon would be susceptible to being persuaded to the Dark Side. Nevada can’t put a hex on everybody.
sarafina says
They would not have join Augustine’s house, they would have been employed by the House, not MII. A higher-paid servant is still a servant. Nevada cherishes her independence, and the firm her dad built.
Ange in Oz says
Already explained by the Authorlorda that it would make them vassals to House Rogan and it would mean they would also inherit Rogan’s enemies, powerful enemies.
J says
The 2d or 3d part of the Chapter addressed this.
House Rogan has powerful enemies. Nevada doesn’t think they should trade Victoria for Rogan’s enemies, and joining Rogan won’t necessarily protect them from her better than this alternative.
BryMarie92 says
Also think of the unsaid reasons for becoming a House. They’re the same for Nevada building up the agency. A legacy for her family to inherit/keep. After House Baylor is firmed if Nevada marries Rogan, every member of her house will still have prestige and options. This way they aren’t reliant upon Rogan, although he’ll probably still offer/force his services to them.
BryMarie92 says
*formed.
They are great in their own rights/magic/abilities (which is forever) and not just based off of a marriage (which is severable).
wiedzma_florentyna says
Thank You !
And thank You too misterious blackmailing people from England.
I’m Polish there is planty to be upset about with this constant shitstorm in our politics…
Oh I know! We were fucked over in both Word Wars.
Does it mean I can qualify for a snippet too?
Ms. Kim says
Don’t forget to throw in Napolean eviserating your country.
Patience says
Absolutely, join the party! We, however, try to keep our words polite.
DianainCa says
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! You made my Friday!
Liss says
I am still sad that they let Leon believe he is a dud with no magic. It’s really mean. I just know it will backfire and I just feel awful about it.
As always beautiful writing, it has really made my day. Thankyou!
As for politics, I live in Australia. Even if a Prime Minister is elected, there is no guarantee that they will retain their position for the length of the term.
Sean says
Well in real time it has been less than a week since they found out, plus they don’t really know what he is. So it isn’t like they are holding out on him. I think the DNA test is going to be a big reveal for Leon and that is going to out his ability.
kelticat says
I have a feeling that Penelope knows exactly what Leon is, since I suspect that her talent works in a similar fashion.
Tania says
Me too! i am very worried about Leon. I hope it doesn’t go too pear shaped and EG or any of the other Houses get their claws into him.. and i hope he gets his HEA. Please let him be ok! Suffering here…:)
Flybynite says
Fair is fair, snippet wise. And here, we all win!
Teresa die hard fan says
I have been at the library since 3:00. I can hardly wait so the snippet really helped me today. Are you here yet? Thank you
Sarah says
I’m not miffed by any politics, but it has been a long, emotional, frustrating (albeit rewarding) two weeks. And I have a large move with a small person ahead of me for the summer, no job to look forward to, and uncertain waters ahead. So, these snippets have certainly brightened my day!
Patience says
Good luck. Moves are difficult. Keep in touch.
DawnK says
I absolutely refuse to wish the summer away just so I can read this book. But oh my Lord it’s hard not to want these two months to fly by.
sarafina says
Living in Texas, I would gladly wish the summer away if I could, even if Wildfire wasn’t the golden prize.
Ms. Kim says
All hail the Authorlords!
Omar Mtz says
In three years with all that magic, they would become one of the most powerful and dangerous houses in Huston.
catlover. says
can we blame all this political stupidity around the world on chemical trails, global warming, or a universal lobotomy requirement to be an elected official? Nice to know it’s not just us.
Patricia Schlorke says
Did Victoria Tremaine do a lobotomy on the current US president? I wonder somtimes.
AngelMercury says
Ah Yay! Here I thought pt3 might be the last we get for a while. Looking forward to this book so much.
Bunso says
what about the Philippines? we have Duterte 🙁
sarafina says
Agreed. You need your own snippet.
Avril says
Thank you. You made my day a little brighter.
James says
Thank you for the snippet. It absolutely made me smile which I needed
Reethu says
Thank you for the snippet
Is there any chance for international tour for the authorlords???
Allan says
I wonder if Leon will be the third prime. This will be so delicious.
Tania says
That would be fantastic! i just hope he doesn’t become a dark horse…Augustine’s words about dark horses keep rolling through my head…
Allan says
Well he isn’t an intentional dark horse
Tina Black says
A dark horse seems to be a talent who does not fit into the House specialty. So far, House Baylor shows no signs of having a specialty with many primes having the same talents.
Anne Schultz says
It is unacknowledged prime talent usually not inline with houses’ usual expertise.
Kathy says
After they form House Baylor, I’d like Nevada to form an alliance with a House Rogan by marrying Rogan and Catalina to marry Cornelius (alliance House Harrison) and maybe Arabella with Augustine’s brother (alliance House Montgomery) because she wanted to copy Augustine’s illusion so they all must have related magic. What do you think?
Tania says
I was also thinking what a powerhouse would a Baylor – Rogan – Montgomery – Harrison alliance would be…And Latimer, if and when we know what magic their house has. Wow!
sarafina says
What if the parties involved didn’t care for the idea? That would be no better than EG’s presumed plotting.
Allan says
Actually it would make more sense for Cornelius to marry Arabella. Cornelius could bond with her, thus showing if needed they could control Arabella.
Tina Black says
Nooo! Arabella is enchanted by the pretty Montgomery, and there seems to be some connection from Catalina to Cornelius, besides Matilda.
Anne Schultz says
Arabella is fifteen. Augustine is mostly likely twice her age at least because he is two years over Conner Rogon’s age.
Laurence says
Exactly!
Kerry says
OMG. Wow! Love you guys. Sincerely and truly. No one writes the way you do. Thanks for the extra snippet!
Kick says
Teenage boy with that kind boy of secret coupled with desire to be cool? Seems exceedingly wise to keep the secret although I’m sure said secret wont last more than half a book.
Jess says
This is completely random, but Arabella’s line to Catalina — “For once in your life, make a decision!” — reminded me so much of Hamilton’s line to Burr regarding the U.S. Constitution: “For once in your life, take a stand with pride; I don’t understand how you stand to the side!” Authorlords, have you heard of/seen the musical Hamilton?
Jade says
Oh thank you, being in the UK this whole election thing is just painful and frustrating. Especially now that May is forming coalition with a anti gay, anti abortion party…..unbelievable.
Arlia says
I think Ceasar is Rynda. I mean, even Rogan wouldn’t suspect her and yet she’s an empath, so she would’ve known that Nevada wasn’t affected by her mom’s magic during the fundraiser, but she kept up the ruse.
And now I bet she’s trying to separate Rogan and Nevada from each other. Easier to take down separately. ?
anainasia says
i was thinking that today too – after reading the amazon blurb on Wildfire – about the poor emotional wife routine becoming old or something like that. But she really doesn’t know where her husband is, unless she send him away not knowing, so she could pass Nevada’s tests. hmmm – more room for speculations on that one.
Crystal says
Thank you for the snippet!
Does anyone else think the DNA testing will be an issue? I wonder if Catalina and Arabella are adopted. There is a bit of an age difference between them and Nevada, they don’t look like each other or her, and they have all have such different magic skills.
sarafina says
I think Nevada’s birth may have been a surprise, and her parents were careful about contraception after that. Also, Penelope was in the Army and may not have been physically present. With the lack of knowledge about James’ paternity, who knows what is in the mix? And Nevada would have noticed if the girls arrived with out a pregnant Penelope.
Caroline says
Thank you. Things in the U.K. have been….well…. not great, so it was lovely for you to think of the UK branch of the book-devouring horde. Only real plus from the election result, from my perspective, is that maybe, just maybe, it might lead to a rethink on hard BREXIT. No BREXIT would be my wish, but….
