This hiatus is not working.

Do you remember choose your own adventure books? Well, now they have been adapted into games you can play on your mobile devices. One of the companies offering these games is Crazy Maple Studios. One of the games they will be offering on October 30th is Burn For Me.

Full disclosure: this is an adaptation. We have no idea how close it is to the source material. Because they had to mess with the story line to make it interactive, there is no telling what kind of branching plot they ended up with. We had no input. We’re just sitting back and collecting a small percentage of the sales. I’m excited, because I suspect hilarity will occur. Hehe.

When Jeaniene Frost’s books were made into these mobile games, she told me that you could make you character look however you wanted. I hope they do that, because it would so much fun to see all the range of different Nevadas.

So, if you are feeling adventurous, we will post the links to the app and all that jazz on October 30th.

  5. Thank you for posting this! Been a bad week but this is just the distraction I need. I hope we get to design our own Nevada. It’s like being 6 and playing paper dolls with my sister. Coloring in all the paper clothes and stuff. Why yes I am five ????

  7. Any Hidden Legacy story, or adaptation, is a “must-buy” for me. And you guys should really get money from all the sources: games, screenplays, sidewalk chalk (hey, for making circles), armored tank companies…

  10. OMG I loved choose your own adventure when I was a kid. I look forward to playing and exploring the adaptation story. I always explored all the different routes to see where things could go from regular to extreme endings!

      • Overall I like the art better, but to me the Rogan doesn’t match the description from the book. Not tall enough, not muscular enough, and what’s with the hair cut and Miami Vice beard? So, does this mean I don’t plan on buying the game? Of course not! Maybe I can use this to feed my addiction while waiting for Ruby Fever, and every other “next book”.

    In app form I can’t peruse through the pages to see all the endings after getting frustrated when it keeps ending badly so that’s good I think 🙂

  26. I’m honestly a little terrified of this considering the reviews for Crazy Maple Studio Dev on Google Play….

    Certain options on their current stories tend to be “premium” meaning you have to pay for them it sounds like. Now if I can get the “premium” gems or whatever over time, and I just have to play slowly, ok, but if the ONLY way to get them is to pay? ugh.

    I’ll have to pick it up later this week and find out I guess.

  31. I created a Choose Your Own Adventure training for my team at work…a lot of people didn’t know what CYOA was and I was sad (they took it personally when I killed off our patient…but to be fair it was THEIR decisions that led to his ultimate demise) 🙂

  37. Snicker, chortle, guffaw! I remember those choose your own adventure books – they got into some really funny stuff just by how they let you mix things up.

    I just got the email that my pre-ordered calendar would ship in the next few days. I’m not sure if I will keep it or give it to my BDH friend who lives a few miles away for Christmas. It’s undoubtedly gorgeous, but I did get my Edward Gorey 2022 a few days before I succumbed to temptation.

  44. I hope it’s better than the one done for Kelly Armstrong’s Cainsville series. That only had about 5 different ”choices”, for something like 10 paths to 4 endings. But if you can customize your character beyond M/F, it’s already more advanced (in fairness, the KA one was at least 4 years ago — maybe more, it was out before Rituals). I mean, I ate it up, and it was creepy, just… not enough adventure for too much money.

    Which won’t stop me from buying this one. Or, since I was just about to do a reread on Jeanine Frost ANYWAY, looking for hers.

  47. Way too old to have read Choose Your Own Adventure as a kid, but this might be fun if not too expensive. I’ll look for the announcement. Glad you are diversifying revenue streams ????

  51. They are becoming popular again, I read them with my 6yr old son, he loves them. There is a series called What would Danny Do? Which teaches kids they have the power to choose better things for them selves but we just got a new choose your adventure book – The Haunted House. I will definitely be looking at this game!

  71. Good heavens, that was a short hiatus! I missed out on the eArc, drat. But as I pre-ordered the minute the link went up, I’m not exactly heartbroken.

    A game!! Sounds like fu. I might have to check it out, tho I generally limit my gaming to things like solitaire that don’t suck me in and keep me prisoner heh.

  72. So I play no games. Except on my PC/already loaded card games. Yeah, boring. BUT for the first time ever–to give HA any kind of boost–I’m ordering and will attempt to play. Actually excited to try!

    If you like Choose your own adventure books, I highly recommend “My Lady’s Choosing” by Kitty Curran, which is an interactive romance. Screamingly funny and hours of distracting fun!

    Heh. You guys are not popular or everything. I just went to Netgalley and all arcs went very fast. You can now ‘wish for it’. I’m just thrilled that the book will be published soon and I’ll read it then.

        I recently re-read the *entire* Kate Daniels series – in order -and Julie’s book and Hugh’s books. I found that reading them so close together I noticed things I’d missed before. FYI I loved, loved, the Edge books, and hope for some more of those one day. The thought of taking a side road and ending up in another world – I still look at side roads and wonder.

  88. This comment is completely unrelated to the post. Sorry, but the others are too old and I didn’t want to use the “technical issues” email.
    I just stumbled across the list of snippets from August and opened the trunk. I have to say, you may have labeled them as not worth reading, but I found it time well spent. My only regret is that all of them stopped mid story. I have enjoyed reading everything of yours that I could lay my hands on, and I would buy any one of the trunk stories that you decided to publish. On the other hand, I am eagerly awaiting more Iron Covenant, Inn Keeper, Hidden Legacy and of course Blood Heir, and more series means longer waits.
    Thank you for sharing these. I am an avid reader, but I have never been able to create. The writing assignments I had in school were all torture and completely unoriginal. I wish I had 1/10 of the imagination you guys show. I have be content visiting the worlds other people create. Again thank you for sharing your stories/worlds/imagination with the rest of us.

    Not sure I can handle a world where Nevada running off into the sunset with Adam is remotely possible.

    Though if there is an ending that has grandma’s may/december thing with Adam, that might be worth the entertainment…
