So today is my father’s last day with us, but that’s not why we are delaying. Kid 2 had bacterial sinusitis. Her boyfriend has bacterial sinusitis. Kid 1 now also has bacterial sinusitis. Everyone has antibiotics.
I’ve held on for about 4 days trying to take care of everybody, but woke up this morning with no voice and a very painful, raw throat. I am fuzzy, but all things considered, I don’t feel super awful. The problem is, I can’t communicate, so Gordon and I can’t write together. Since we are working on the final battle scene, there is no way to coordinate anything. We can’t discuss it. So we are stuck until my voice comes back.
On the plus side, he keeps making really dirty jokes because he thinks it’s hilarious that I can’t do anything except glare.
So we may have to delay until next week. Please don’t email us. There is nobody to answer your email. Chateau Andrews is under quarantine. We are all wearing masks, because we are scared dad might catch it. He needs to be at the airport at 5:00 am tomorrow and right now I have no idea how we are going to manage that, because I couldn’t even get out of bed today until 9:00 am.
Kathryn says
Feel better! Take time to rest and take care of yourselves!
Sjik says
All the plus ones to that!
Vala says
+ lots!! (and I really like the limo idea, make him feel special and you get to stay in bed! )
Lyuba says
Feel better! to EVERYONE!!
Shadowspun says
Taken Limos – they are really comfortable and you get really cared for on a good car service. Much better than Uber or Lyft – I’d get up with him – then back to bed when he’s left. Have him call if he has cell or have driver call you when at airport and his baggage is checked

Violet says
Oh wow! Get well soon and your family.
This would be a good time for sharks and Lasers
Olivera says
What a bad luck. Everyone is sick at my work as well. I hope you guys feel better soon. ?

I had to be at the hospital at 6:30 am today and my mom doesn’t drive. I didn’t want to drive there because I wouldn’t be able to drive after my procedure. So, my SIL ordered an Uber. It worked brilliantly. Order an Uber or Lyft or whatever.
Cassie says
Please feel better soon. Thank you for keeping us updated. We appreciate your time and effort.
RoadRunner says
Being sick sucks. Don’t rush; take the time to get well (all of you). We can wait for the next chapter.
Get well soon!

I have the same request. Gordon can post some of his jokes, can’t he? 😉
vinity says
Oh no!! I hope you all feel better. I hope your dad doesn’t get it. 🙁 I also really hope the visit was good
Tina in NJ says
I’m sorry you all don’t feel well. We will wait however long it takes. Rest and recuperate. Thank you very much for keeping us in the loop. I sure hope your father doesn’t catch what is going around.
Feel better.
Heather Langston says
Goodness, what would Doolittle say?? Lots of positive, anti-sickness thoughts for you all!
Kathryn says
I hope you get better soon. In the meantime, there’s a new contest on Love Nikki so you can focus on that instead of Gordon’s dirty jokes.
Kirsten says
Thats horrible! I hope your recover quickly and that your dad is spared from the plague running through your home and has a safe fight home.
I once went on spring brake with my friends family to Florida and the second day there her cousin got the stomach flu. It then proceeded though our group, one person getting sick each day. I thought I had avoided it until the night before we where leaving I can down with it. That was the worst trip home ever, luckly I had stopped throwing up by the time we left but the 10 hour drive back still was not fun.
kommiesmom says
Christmas at my in-laws, with hubbie, 2 kids, sister-in-law, her husband, and their 4 kids. Stomach flu. ONE bathroom. I was the only one that did not have the flu during some part of the stay.
Then the bathroom drain got plugged up. Plumber couldn’t get there for 5 hours.
My husband always wondered how I could be so calm when disasters hit.
Sherry says
Hope y’all feel better!
Karen says
Germs running rampant at our house too. I sympathize and hope you feel better soon.
And why is it that people who don’t get laryngitis find it so amusing to pick on those of us who do? They perhaps prefer a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent? Well, not unarmed, just temporarily unable. Feel better!
JO says
Best wishes to everyone! I recommend turmeric chai: https://www.mountainroseherbs.com/products/turmeric-chai/profile
Teresa says
I also recommend chai tea. Nice hot and peppery, but no turmeric as I am allergic. Swollen tongue is not fun.
LizF says
Sounds dreadful!! Please rest, hydrate and take care of yourselves! Safe travels to dad, I’m with others..call a town car. ❤️
Lynn L says
I had the crud. I think all the rain in Texas has contributed.
Rita says
Get better soon! We care more about you than the story, and we know that you will get it to us when you can. In the meantime, we’ll be patient.
Cathy B says
Feel better soon. I’m going to sit here and practice my patience.
Natasha Johnson says
Oh no! I hope y’all get to feeling better and that your dad doesn’t get it! Please rest and don’t strain your throat anymore than needed! Throat Coat tea is always great when my sinuses go crazy and cause my throat to hurt really bad and then hot epson salt bath with eucalyptus always helps my head to not feel so heavy.
Elenariel says
That’s sad. I suffered sinusitis half of my life because I broke my nose when I was 2, the ache just between the eyes is soooo annoying!
And it’s horrible losing your voice without a good deal with a sea witch! ?
Hope everyone get well soon, have a good rest this weekend ?
cheryl z says
Please feel better soon, sounds terrible! I really appreciate the notification about the delay. I’m happy to wait until next week. Thanks again
wont says
OMG. Forget Innkeeper. If anyway possible, try for some rest. Order takeout for every meal. Pick a sofa and imitate a limp noodle. Drink, yes drink, lots of chicken broth.
You need a break.
PS: Gordon: Really? **snickers**
Judy B says
+1 for sure, particularly on the snickers
Anecia says

Siobhan says
Alcohol kills germs.
Liz Mansfield says
Nothing is more important than your health!! Every thing comes to those that wait and it will be all the more exciting for it ! Get well soon and then you can pass on some of Gordon’s dirty jokes ?
Amy says
Sending lots of healing vibes your way ???
Can grandpa take an uber? Or is that not done? My mom (we’re Chinese) would probably be fine with ubering it if we were all sick, but my dad… I wouldn’t even know how to bring it up without feeling like I’ve failed as a daughter. The stress I’d have to deal with afterwards wondering if he was low key disappointed/miffed at me and hubs wouldn’t be worth it. Interesting enough, my dad’s also a tinkerer when he visits. I now have a quarter sized hole in the wall of my upstairs bathroom because he decided to diy a shower head holder. For the shower head my mom replaced our original one with. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry when we found the damn hole after his last visit. Fun times.
Scott Drummond says
Best wishes for the family’s health!
Sarani says
Feel better soon!
(… and squeee for a final battle scene!)
Cheryl M. says
Feel better. Someday this shall be a family story. And, if people cannot survive until next week for the installment, they need to get a life.
Carol says
It’s awful when this happens. Hope you all get better soon.
Lisa L says
Weren’t you just saying that you were worried that your Dad would get sick after cleaning the windows in crappy weather? Now everyone is sick except him (and Gordon)? Figures huh?
Take the rest you need and hopefully your weekend won’t suck too much.
Curious what YOU would have done if he was the one without any voice. 😉
Siobhan says
I’m 95% sure that Gordon wrote the bit in Magic Mourns where Raphael wants to make Andrea “go ‘Ew’ again” because “[i]t’s an irresistible male impulse.”
If not, Ilona wrote it in description of Gordon. So the answer is likely “not what he’s doing.” ?
Jean says
My mom used to do lemon juice for a sore throat. Use a shot glass or one of those pimento cheese juice glasses – about 3/4 of an inch if using juice glass. First time I tried it – oy! – but it works. Once in the a.m. and once in the p.m.
Sue says
I’m sorry to hear that Casa Andrews is feeling under the weather. I can wait for SotB. Y’alls health is more important 🙂
Torin says
I HAVE BACTERIAL SINUTITIS
Tina in NJ says
Feel better.
Suzanne L says
Y’all take care of yourselves!! Innkeeper can wait. Hope all feel better soon.
Also, make note of inappropriate jokes and share them later 😀
Amanda H says
Gargle with very warm salt water. It tastes like a fish’s dirty fins, but cuts that drainage crap out of the back of your throat and helps with the soreness.
Saira says
To be super effective add hydrogen peroxide to the mix (I add more salt then needed when I do this to help with the taste). It tastes AWFUL – there isn’t a caps lock large enough to express that-, but it cleans out your throat.
Get better soon, sleep lots and good luck getting dad to the airport 🙂
Gailk says
Woke up this morning with sore throat, sniffing and I sneezed?7 times. Fed
My cats , had water and went back to bed. Luckily, this my day off.
Amazing, but I feel better. Not great , but moving and getting things semi-done.
Order in , drink tea, and order a car for your father.
Chateau Andrews will survive the sinus war.
Everything else can wait .
The Horde can take the time to imagine the epic battle. Waiting is good.
It’s gonna be such fun to read, really fast and then later slowly to enjoy .
Hannah Gillespie says
Figures!!! Life is a roller coaster all you can do is whole on and ride the ride. Scream when necessary, laugh when you can and exit stage left.
Liz V. says
Yikers! That suxs!! Hopefully everybody gets well soon!
Put on a huge pot of chicken noodle soup, have some orange juice and if all else fails break out the brandy….that’s how we roll in my house anyways. 😀
Toni says
Gordon does whither under your death stare? Sounds like it is the perfect time to work on it.
Feel better all and safe travels to papa
Donna says
Don’t worry about us. Take care of all of your sick-os – including Gordon!
One more recommendation for sore throat/laryngitis: Hot Toddy. Hot water, lemon juice, honey, and a shot of whiskey. It will sooth your throat and let you sleep.
Saira says
I do that but I don’t like whisky so I use whatever I have on hand (amaretto is my fav). And lime juice works just as well as lemon. (you don’t need the hot water if you heat up the honey in the microwave).
VeronicaK says
Yikes! Never mind Innkeeper! Get some rest, heal up and fingers crossed for no Father contamination. Good luck with the Gordon jokes (rolls eyes; I have a hubs like that )Thanks for the heads up, that’s very nice of you.
njb says
Well, at least Dad got to see a little sun before he left. I hope his visit was really good for all of you. And I hope you enjoy your last day together, despite sinusitis and laryngitis! Tell him the BDH wishes him safe travels!
No Innkeeper is completely understandable. We will all survive, especially considering the “final battle scene” comment. Oooooh, that’s something to look forward to. Get well soon!
Lyssa Sue Shaffer says
Chicken soup for the soul. Email arrangements to setup a ride for Dad to the airport. He is an adult and he knows you are sick. Trust him to competently handle getting himself home. Let him adult up and feel superior for doing so.
Or else drop him at an airport hotel tonight and let the hotel shuttle handle it.
Lee says
The hotel & shuttle sounds like a great idea, less chance of him catching all the Chateau Andrews germs, and you don’t have to get up so early.
When I had epic sinusitis with laryngitis, a friend recommend caraway tea. Amazingly, it worked almost immediately. Boil caraway seeds about 10 minutes, strain, drink as hot as you can manage without burning your mouth. Put in as much honey as you need to swallow it, it’s pretty nasty tasting without.
Feel better soon, don’t worry about us.
EarlineM says
Ugh!!! No bueno!! Hope you feel better soon! Mucinex (in the blue box) and lots of water/tea during the day, knock out cough/cold for night. It breaks up during the day, and you can sleep at night. 🙂
Irmel says
Gordon making dirty jokes, when you can’t fight back, huh? Thinks he’s hilarious, huh? Are you going to tassle him? He!
(Yes, tassle, not tussle and not tar and feather, either – well, probably its the modern, more civilised version of it…)
Nanik says
I hope you all feel better soon!
Julie says
Clearly Gordon should take him since he has all that extra energy……
Cristina says
+ 1 ?
Dreamboat Annie says
Lol
All that cheek should be rewarded by being the dadmobile.
Alex R. says
Get him a car service. No one needs to drive him that early who isn’t getting paid.
Ree says
Funny – if he is anything like my dad was even the thought of someone paying to take him to the airport will result in comments like “don’t worry, I can take a bus. Yes I know I will need to leave tonight to make it but I will be fine.” Or if he is like my grandmother, just wait for the guilt trip…
jewelwing says
IKR? You can see that one coming way down the tracks.
Todd Erickson says
Love you folks, take care.
Chris says

Keep well Gordon, and get well Ilona and clan.
We’ll wait for the rest of the story until you feel like writing again.
Anticipation is 1/2 the fun and gives me more time to reread “Kate”.
Just finished 9. Took 2 weeks from 5 to 9. Can’t start 9 1/2 till Monday night
(boo hoo).
If you have time and energy to read, S.K. Dunstall is fantastic! and transports you to a world away from your troubles.
Tea with honey and ginger is also great. ❣️ ?
Libby says
I hope you feel better. I have had many sinus infections and have grown to wish my sinuses were optional body parts that could be removed. Hang in there. Drink fluids. And don’t forget to quietly plot your revenge on Gordon.
Siobhan says
No kidding. Or that something like a “sinus scraper” existed, where I can stick something up there and it would scrape everything out. Or possibly dissolve it in an acid spray.
The best advice I ever got for my sinus infections was given by the nurses at my college clinic — hot showers until you prune. The feel of the hot water hitting my sinuses makes me wish I could somehow get boiling water up there, because if that’s good, more must be better, right?
In re: in Magic Slays, when Kate’s knee “developed a steady annoying ache” and she “had [the] absurd feeling that if only [she] could jam something sharp in there, the pain would go away*”? That sentence is representative of the oh-so-human thoughts/feelings that are so totally relatable, the reader is drawn in despite themselves. I, in particular, found that one relatable.
Anyway, until something better than showers, tea, rest, and antibiotics comes along, do those things until you feel better. We’ll wait.

*Or in White Hot, where Daniela’s “awesome painkillers” leave her “wanting to spin to the right”.
Tylikcat says
Or that you could pop them out and run them through the dishwasher. Or maybe a dedicated washer, because ew, who wants that in with your dishes?
Once upon a time* my best friend and kinda girlfriend ran of with my boyfriend on our anniversary. I usually am more likely to go straight to pissed off than to sad, but this time really got to me – and I was, like, twenty – and I cried, a lot. Really a lot. Oh, the heartbreak.
As it turns out, I’d just come down with a sinus infection when this happened. It turns out that all that crying – assuming you stay hydrated – can actually do a lot to clear up sinus infections! Can’t exactly recommend it, but since most of the practical (and I daresay a few inadvisable) methods have already been covered, I’ll just skip to the ridiculous stories.
* this is a the same incident that also involved one of my best friends, a police officer, sending her longshoreman husband out to take me bar hopping.
Tina in NJ says
I have a friend who is a vocal teacher at Juilliard music school in NYC. She recommended rinsing the nasal passages with nasal saline, which you can get at the grocery or drug store. I used to get laryngitis every year at Christmas time. After using the nasal saline, I think I got laryngitis once or twice in about 15 years.

We will wait for the grand finale. It will only get better with anticipation.
In the meantime, take care of yourselves and try not to laugh too hard when Gordon gets the crud also.
Amanda P says
Hope you all get well soon xx
oona says
Agh. For the bacterial sinusitis, lots of steam inhalation, and the hot water should be spiked with essential oils/herbs. Oregano, Peppermint and Tea Tree oil are great anti bacterials. They get up in the nose via steam, and help the antibios work plus steam helps sooth (warm not scalding). Also second the salt water gargle and hot lemon herbal tea or chicken bone broth. I second the airport limo idea too.

So sorry to hear your family isn’t feeling well. ( Fingers crosses for your dad!)

Oh no hope your whole household recovers speedily! I was out with a nasty cold for a week in June and I had to miss 3 days of work. I spent those 3 days in bed sleeping, I’m not even kidding, I didn’t get up unless it was bathroom or to shove some chicken noodle soup down my throat! I had a sinus infection about a year ago and also missed about 3 days of work, it was awful. Make Gordon drop off your dad since he’s still fine, I’m sure your dad will understand. Or just put him in an Uber/taxi if you’re not far from the airport (unless you’re worried about him communicating in English?).
Kgor says
I am recovering from surgery. I have enjoyed reading your installments very much. I hope you are feeling better soon. Sick is no fun. Thanks for the distraction during my recovery. I am very grateful.

First off: Get well soon and take care of yourselves!
Having said that, I’m sitting here imagining the two of you trying to mime out fight scenes in a sickness/medication impaired state. There’s an image in my head somewhere between drunken boxing, sleepwalking and mumbling.

Just take of yourselfs, and feel better soon.

Deities!
I just googled bacterial sinusitis and I want to put a mask on even though I’m the other side of the Atlantic!
Just concentrate on getting better and looking after your dad – you know we can amuse ourselves in the meantime.
Also, given this book is nearing the end, you need your strength for when the BDH come after you for the next Innkeeper!!! 😉
Amanda says
Was very much looking forward to Innkeeper for my birthday, but I would rather have you healthy! Feel better to you and all kids. Prayers no one else catches it!!
Vicki says
Sounds like Uber for dad and bed rest for everyone else. Wishing you all a speedy recovery!
Suzann says
Uber for dad. Rest for you. Feel better soon guys.
Natalie says
I don’t know if anyone else is suggested it but sinus washes are great at helping speed the infection away. I use the squeeze bottle one not the dripping pot. But make sure you follow the directions and use distilled water not tap water with the saline packets! I personally have to plug my ears with one shoulder and the hand not holding the bottle when I use it because of the pressure on my ears but it helps things immensely. Also can we look forward to a lot of dirty jokes in the final battle scene!?!?
Berta says
Dammit virus and bacterias!!!! Take care!!!!
Nancy C says
I am under the weather myself and can appreciate how frustrating it can be to attempt communication when sick.

Teh Gerg says
Oh, the joys of mid-fall. Get well soon.
Leena says
Oh no!!! Hope y’all feeling better soon
Lynn Fitz says
Enough of this passing around germs, everybody gets a personalized hand sanitizer attached to their belt: to be used after touching Anything. Wash hands frequently and for heavens sake, stop breathing on each other . If you have to sneeze or cough do it into the crook of your arm so you don’t smear your germs everywhere. And for the nose blowers a personal Kleenex box also attached to the belt as well as a plastic bag for disposal. Again, hand sanitizer after each tissue use. Golly gee kids, you’re supposed to know how to not get your hard working parents sick!!! ( you may post this on the refrigerator)!

I hope you guys feel better soon and hopefully the meds work. I finally got over an acute case of sinusitis, I lost my taste and smell completely, but the doctors would only give me decongestants. I suffered for about 7 months. Once we moved and I got a new doctor he finally put me on regiment of antibiotics and I was better within about a week.
Get some rest and hopefully Gordon can drive your dad and you can be a sleepy passenger in the back seat.
Patricia says
In this case Uber is your friend. It can drive your dad directly to the airport and drop them off at the correct terminal.
Hope you feel better soon.

+1- also feel better! and hope it doesn’t spread to your dad.
KathyInAiken says
So sorry you guys are sick, but I am glad you aren’t gleefully spreading your germs. In kindergarten, we invariably have a few parents send their kids to school with a fever and obviously sick – just so they don’t have to deal with them for the morning. This means one sick four year old inevitably spreads their illness with the other ten to twelve kids in the class. If the child makes it to recess, they wipe out the school. I really appreciate thoughtful and smart people like you. Be well soon.
jewelwing says

Not that I don’t sympathize with parents of sick children, but no one needs those germs. They can so easily make their way to someone whose immune system isn’t up to the challenge.
Mags says
Hope you all feel better soon, let Gordon take your dad and you all take care and look after yourselfs ?????
Nean says
Mags, but then she’ll have to face the constant reminders of, “that time you wouldn’t even get up to say good-bye to me let alone take me to the airport even though I flew thousands of miles just to see you and left my wife home alone…” There are some things you can’t live down. Plus with dad living so far away it’s hard to miss those chances to say a proper good-bye.
Hope it works out some how.
Sola says
Speedy healing. I hope everyone recovers quickly!

Susan says
A not sick Gordon could serve the needs of all those who are sick! Envisions Gordon carrying a tray with hot tea, breakfast and a vase with a rose to the bedroom where Ilona is propped up waiting to be served in bed.
I hope the father remains in good health and sick free! Sorry the last bit of the visit was plagued by pathogens!
Kelly says
Hope the quarantine is over soon and you are all feeling better! I don’t suppose Lyft would work for the paternal figure, but maybe he’d prefer that to one of you breathing on him. Ripper cushions, indeed!
FBR says
Sorry to hear that, I hope you get better soon!
Patricia Schlorke says
Get well! Don’t worry about getting Innkeeper posted until you get well. 🙂

Hope you all feel better soon, take all the time you need to rest and get better. Echinacea and goldenseal tea with honey is my go-to for sore throat, and when my hubby gets snarky about me being sick, I make HIM make all my tea!
Robin Moore says
Why I have several big tea pots. I use a neti pot too or a lot of steam..
I remember sleeping under the table with a blanket tent over it and a humidifier filling it with steam as a kid. Before being diagnosed with asthma.
I take desmodium tea, a very fast acting bronchodialator too. It doesn’t taste bad and helps a bit with the aches and pains too. My kid prefers it to his inhaler. He’s on the autistic spectrum tho high functioning and trying to coordinate with an inhaler is hard for him. Drinking tea or the tincture is just easier.
Susan says
Adding a little bit of a product called Alcolol to the neti pot helps. It thins out mucus and helps open you up. Been around for 100+ years.
AJ Rother says
So sorry to hear you’re not feeling well. Take your time to fully recover, we’ll wait.
Jen H says
If I have learned anything as a faithful member of the BDH, it is that any disappontment from delays are soon forgotten but your storytelling is ALWAYS worth the wait. Your words exceed expectations and I am just happy to get to read what you come up with. Honesty, we know life happens and we want to enjoy your books for many years to come. That doesn’t happen if you guys can’t prioritize your health and family. Hope everyone is feeling better soon and safe travels for your father!

So sorry you and your family are sick. Hope you all get well soon.
If it helps any, make a tea by boiling a walnut sized (sliced) piece of ginger, peeled or scrubbed and unpeeled for about 30 minutes in about 2 1/2 c. water. Serve with sweetener of your choice and lemon if you like. Excellent for the throat (especially cases of laryngitis )and soothes the stomach as well. Ginger has lots of healing properties.

Hey Lenora ,
Thank you for the recipe?!
When I had flu B , I lived on chicken noodle soup, blue Gatorade, elderberry juice and sprite.
Maybe Ilona’s Dad has a good Russian cold bug remedy you could try?
Hope Chateau Andrews feels better will be praying for them.
Billee says
Feel better! And get plenty of rest. Also honey tea should help sooth the sore throats and plenty of cranberry juice,oj and water to help flush your systems.
Dawn says
I’m sorry you are all sick. I grew up with 5 siblings and we were amazing vectors for spreading disease.
Good hand washing, and lots of fluids, and my warmest wishes for your quick recoveries.

I disinfect everything everyone touches a lot, light switches, fridge handles, faucet handles, doorknobs etc and especially the phone. Anyone sick can use it on speaker instead of breathing germs all over it to share the joy.
jewelwing says
We did this in my house this summer when someone brought home a nasty GI virus. The two members of the household who rigorously disinfected everything did not catch it. Totally worth looking like complete germaphobes as opposed to youdon’twanttoknow.
ann rovetto says
Take care and feel better soon. We want you around to write stories for us for a long, long time so we can wait a little while for this one. For natural solutions to your issues check out my facebook page.

Good Lord Woman! I thought you were saying that your father was dying today AND all of you were sick. You have no idea how relieved I am that he’s just getting on a plane. Feel better soon!
Christine McCann says
Sending healing mojo for care & comfort to the family. Also, that your father has safe, smooth (and healthy!) travel home.

Feel better soon. There’s nothing like having a parent in town while you’re feeling like crud. I hope he makes it back safely, and that you and your family feel better soon.

Hope you get better soon. Don’t worry about us and Innkeeper, just knowing that we’re on the last battle scene sends a frisson of excitement through us. Well, me at least. I wonder what the appropriate punishment for the vampirates is. Tachi warriors, Arland in battle mode, so much to look forward to.
Mike says
Get well soon! Your and your families health is way more important than chapter updates.
Ashley says
This has been such an incredible read, thank you for sharing it! I hope you all feel better soon!
Cynthia says
Well, I guess you do have options this weekend:
1 read a book
2. Knitting, crocheting
3. Movies
4. Research for the battle on YouTube, social media
5. Charade ‘like’ communications on the subject of the battle or whatever
Or
6. The old tried but true form of communication of writing with pen or pencil to get your point across
I’m sure with the huge storeage of imagination you two have between you, it’s going to be interesting…………..
sarafina says
Or she could just stay in bed and get better.

UGG! sinusitis is worse than a head cold as far as I’m concerned. Take care of yourselves, we’ll wait for the end of SoTB. Hope your visit with your Dad was a good
one. I second the recommendation for a hot bath with eucalyptus for opening air passages and hot tea with lemon and honey for the throat. I stopped using OTC remedies years ago because I found that they tended to prolong the agony. I try for things that speed up the flow of snot.
Belinda says
OK all you guys stop being sick!
(says the woman with pnuemonia) Take your antibiotics and don’t forget to eat more yogurt
jewelwing says
Feel better Belinda! Watch out for yogurt in the event of respiratory symptoms, though. Milk products increase mucus production, even if you’re not allergic. It’s kind of a tightrope when you’re on antibiotics. You do need something for the gut flora but maybe kombucha or something instead.
Bri says
Oh no! Feel better!
sarafina says
Wow, you guys get sick a lot. Hope Dad successfully gets home and everyone recovers.
IlonaAndrews says
Yes, every time I mention being sick, you comment on that. It’s because we have a lot of friends and family who frequently visit us. 🙂
jewelwing says
Friends from far away + kids in school = exposure to many novel and exotic pathogens. Think how boring it would be to be healthy all the time!
Actually I could live with that kind of boring. I would be *fine* with it. I could find other ways to amuse myself, I feel sure.
Susan says
So did your dad get to the airport on time and who took him there? As far as you know, is he still in good health? Hope you are feeling much better!

Take your time and get everyone healed up! Safe journey’s for Dad! Tell Gordon that he has to sleep sometime and you have access to his unconscious body. 😉

Bummer, sorry to hear most of you aren’t feeling well – I hope everyone gets better soon and that your dad doesn’t get sick!

Take your time, hope you feel better and that your dad got his plane (I don’t know what time it is in the US so maybe he hasn’t yet ?).

Hope everyone is better today. Concerned minds wondering how Dad got to airport today, without sending sinusitis with as a fair well gift?
Lots of liquids, sleep today, as needed. Want all of you totally healthy! If even one still sick, possibility of starting round Robin again! Uggghhh!
TWAndrews says
Hope your father is still healthy and safely on his way, and that you and your family feel better soon.

I hope all went well. Your father might be proud of your alcohol knowledge because if his pride brings bad luck regarding that, nothing bad will happen. If he shows pride in the truly amazing things you have done then he might bring bad luck to those important things (just a guess).
Stacey Watson says
Any bug that can knock out the entire household is infinitely more important than an installment of a book you give us free each week, or emails that whine because you can’t. Take care of you and yours, we want more of you not to mourn never getting more…?

Hope you get your voice back soon. Been there with that and its no fun. Also, throw crumpled up paper at Gordon to stop his teasing!

While talking with my goddaughter, today, who is deaf and is in college to become a teacher for the deaf… don’t you wish you knew sign language? I knew quite a bit once upon a time… but like all language skills have lost most of it due to lack of use. She posts videos once in a while and it’s lovely to watch, like watching ballet… but I only get one word in ten.
Cynthia says
The very warm salt water gargle ( that others have mentioned) has always worked for me. It’s something everyone has on hand already (salt). You can gargle as many times as you like a day to help relieve the raw feeling in your throat.
I would use about half a cup of the warmest water with about a teaspoon of salt, stir until its dissolved. This is enough for about two or three gargles, depending on the the person using it.
Hope your Dad got off ok.
And that some of you are starting to feel better.
Lynn T. says
So sorry to hear everyone except Gordon has succumbed to bacterial sinusitis. I hope he and your father stay healthy. Sick males are difficult patients as they will not admit to being sick in any way, shape or fashion. Kind of like cats. Cats are deadly ill before you see they are sick.
Get well and what will be, will be.
Thank you both for all the stories. And Gordon for the temporary typing. Grin.
jewelwing says
In my experience they’re difficult patients because, once they’re sick enough to notice, no one else can possibly be as sick as they are. They require being waited on hand and foot. It’s kind of a miracle they aren’t murdered during their convalescence. YMMV, of course.
Kathryn says
I am so sorry to hear it! Wishing a swift recovery to all of you, and hoping that you had a good send-off to your father this morning. Take care!!
Faith says
Take good care of yourselves, Gordon included. We’ll send some mojo to help!
jewelwing says
Hope your dad made it to the airport safe and healthy. Now time to sleep and read and make Gordon feed you until you feel better. The one good thing about being sick is that you have legitimate excuse to do the things without guilt.
jewelwing says
Those things. Blasted Autocorrect, so not helpful!
DianainCa says
I hope your feeling better and your Dad caught his flight being non sick. Last year when I had a bad throat, I did the salt gargle and drank hot lemon juice, honey and a little water.
Good Luck.

or Gordon should!
Sarah says
I hope you’re all feeling better very soon and that your Dad manages to avoid catching the lurgie and has a safe journey home!
I can’t help but giggle at the thought of Gordon telling you all really dirty jokes though LOL
Sandra Hughes says
GET WELL! that is all that matters. Get a Uber for Dad? Truly, hope you all feel better soon. We can wait. 🙂 But, ‘final’ battle scene??? Looking forward to finding out more.
Carol says
My goodness! Many prayers and blessings that you are all feeling better soon!!! Gordon loves through humor I see!?
IreneMBBT says
Also hoping you all feel better soon. Everyone’s symptoms and cures are unique but, for throat, warm chamomile tea. Before antibiotics there was chamomile. Use whatever anti inflammatory works for you. Mine is Advil and Arnica Montana tablets. If the nose is drippy, saline spray helps. If dry, I use Sovereign Silver brand Colloidal Silver Sinus Spray. Silver has natural antibacterial properties. Isn’t it interesting that, historically, wealthy people had platters, dishes and utensils made from sterling?
Again, hoping you feel better soon!
Let your body rest enough to put that energy to healing!
For what it’s worth – yours is my favorite author website. The writing, the snippets, the personal comments, your level of interaction with fans, the fans themselves… it’s all good;;-))

My family finds it HILARIOUS whenever I lose my voice. The seditious acts are endless. Even the dog gets in on it by doing stuff he knows he’s not supposed to do, then keeping his head averted so he can’t see me when I attempt to enact discipline via hand gestures.
Argh!
Sending healing thoughts your way – hope everyone gets better soon.
Judy Schultheis says
Oh, dear. Do take care of yourselves.
Sharon says
Look after yourselves ?
Beth says
I’m sure everyone has given you their favorite remedy. I’ll just add one more. Clove tea — found it on the internet, but I don’t follow their way. This is the short cut.
Fill a mug with water
Shake on some ground clove (it’s a natural anti-bacterial)
Heat it in the microwave. (I have found this better than just pouring boiling water over the clove)
Use any type of tea – loose leave or bag; flavored or non; green, black, or white, etc
Enjoy – i usually do a couple mugs a day when I am not feeling good.
Bill G says
Take care of yourselves, and I hope your father doesn’t get a case of this to take back with him. Final battle scene, eh? Oooo
Leanne Ridley says
I’m sorry that you are feeling so mucky (although thinking of ways to pay back Gordon may help pass the down time more enjoyably LOL). Gets lots of rest and tea, and wait until you are back in fighting trim before you even think about writing that battle scene 😉
Sarah Neuendorff says
And here I just put it down to dad being there. I hope you feel better very soon. Best!
Barbara Kuczinski says
Prayers that everyone is up n running soon!!!

Drink lots of fluids. Maybe good to have the vicks steamer in a bedroom. Make it run 24 hrs. Nose spray cleaning. Mucinex with ibuprofen is good too.
Take care, it will take awhile to get better so don’t worry about us. Your fans will understand and just ignore those who are selfish.
Rose says
That sounds awful! Sinusitis can be so painful. I hope the antibiotics kick in fast, and I hope your dad doesn’t get it, especially with a long plane flight. Just take care of yourselves, and plan your revenge on G when HE gets it and can’t talk, but you’re all better. Mwa hah hah (rubs hands together).
Diane_D says
Hope that you all feel better soon, and that your father got off on time and w/o any sinus infection to endure at altitude!
I personally endorse tea with honey and lemon as a tasty throat-soother.
Marianne says
Hope you feel better soon! Also hope you manage to get your Dad to the airport in time, without too much trouble! Rest, drink plenty of clear fluids, … you know – all the same advice that you usually get when you are sick. I hope all of you (you, kid 2, her boyfriend, and kid 1) are feeling much better soon! I hope that Gordon doesn’t get it, and that he takes good care of you (in addition to telling some good dirty jokes). Feel better!!
P.S. You know they say laughter is the best medicine, so maybe Gordon is just trying to help you get better by telling those jokes! ?
Meg says
Hope you all fell better soon. Glad your Dad’s visit went well. Blessings.
