I don’t remember the last time I was this sick. If I don’t get better, Gordon is taking me to Urgent Care tomorrow. It’s so bad, I want my mom. I spent the day in bed, watching Lifetime Movie Channel. Secrets of the Undercover Wife was not a bad movie. Moving on to Undercover Wife next. I have a theme going.
We will be MIA for a bit.

From one working wife and Mom to another, have you noticed that you’re not allowed to be sick? At least that’s what my husband and kids tell me. The last time I was ill and feeling like I was at death’s door my dear husband asked me if I could stop being sick (in a funny, but not funny way). I hope you can get the help you need and the rest you require and that you don’t get out of bed before you feel well enough. Everyone else can fend for themselves!

So glad that Gordon is still on his feet. Soup and tea and rest. Unfortunately the TV doesn’t help much. Take care

I hope you feel better soon ?. You just focus on getting what you need to get better, even if it’s at the Urgent Care.
Have you tried gargling with warm salt water 3x daily? It’s really simple (can be slightly or very salty) and helps clear the bacteria and gunk. It reeeally helps. If you want a little more, my Dad would always follow us up with hot (sipping temperature only) honey lemonade (lemon juice, water, and honey) because the lemon further strips your throat and the honey is antibacterial. I can say that it helped, though I don’t love sitting and sipping hot things. The saltwater gargling is quicker and better bang for your buck if you’re going to pick one, but the other really helps too. When a sore throat was agonizing I might have sprayed and spit a little chloraseptic a few minutes before gargling the salt water if I just couldn’t stand to gargle, but that was pretty rare. Usually even an awful throat can tolerate warm salt water gargling and spitting. Good luck and God bless ? Hope you feel better soon.

Urgent Care in the States are after hours clinics for those who can’t wait until regular doctor’s hours. It’s for things that don’t require visits to the hospital emergency room but still need immediate attention.
Ilona I really hope you and the rest of the family get well soon, that Gordon avoids catching the plague and your father and stepmom did as well. Let Gordon take care of you, rest and feel better.
Kelticat Kk says
Health first, writing later. You are more important than whether or not we get an Innkeeper the next few weeks.
Hot lemonade (lemon juice, water, honey, and a cinnamon stick ) is good for sore throat. I find that apple brandy works better than cough medicine, especially if you want to drink anything after a dose. Salty, vinagery foods such as pickles also help soothe the throat. And soup. Chicken, vegetable, mushroom. Doesn’t matter which , all are good.
ChrisP says
So sorry to hear that you’re feeling miserable. Drink plenty of fluids and rest as much as you can.
I have found that when you are somewhat awake but hoping to rest, watching something that you’ve seen before is a good bet. For me, it is firing up Netflix and binge-watching Forensic Files. I find the cases fascinating, but I’ve already watched each episode at least twice, and the narrator’s voice is so pleasant that I usually nod off partly through one episode and wake up during another one, whether it is the next one or the 7th one after where I started. LOL
Best wishes.
Rena says
I hope you and the kids feel better quickly, and that Gordon doesn’t come down with it as well.
Does Gordon cook? Here is a simple, but very good and healthy chicken soup recipe from my grandmother. I am posting the cheater version for those who don’t cook, or aren’t feeling up to doing much. By all means do the “real” version where you boil your own chicken to make your stock as it really does make a difference in the taste if someone is up to it.
1 bag of frozen chicken, either the diced or shredded. About 2 lbs.
1 large diced onion. Feel free to add more.
2 large, aka jumbo, boxes of chicken broth.
1 large, aka jumbo can of diced or crushed tomatoes. (Not a gallon can!)
1 – 1/2 bag each of frozen and cut carrots, corn, green beans and add in any other veggies that you like. The amount you put in, depends on how many kinds of veggies you add.
1/2 cup of rice.
Grind a little pepper in it.
Pour it all together in a big pot, if the broth doesn’t cover the other ingredients, add more broth or water to cover. Then bring it to a gentle boil. Let it simmer for at least 30 minutes and taste it to see if you need to add any salt, then enjoy. Slow cooker for 4 – 6 hours on high or 8 hours on low also works.
This is a very forgiving and adaptable recipe. Adjust it to what you like or don’t like.

I found when I need to drink a lot of fluids, using those powder drink mixes to vary the flavor lets me drink more. And if you want it to stay cold, making ice cubes from the mix (half strength if you’re using something like Kool Aid, so they’re good cubes not sticky messes) and using those won’t dilute the flavor. Also, Gator Aid makes a lot of different flavors, also a drink mix they call Propel – both intended for after exercise, but good for pushing the fluids. Hang in there; Gordon, stay healthy!! If all of you get sick, call a friend to come in & help keep you hydrated & eating – you already have the masks for them!
Nora says
Don’t wait. Go now, there is no need to power through. Go so they can give you meds that are not over the counter and for your exact symptoms.

As someone who gets sinus infections frequently, once they really take hold, the only way to get rid of them is antibiotics- lots of fluids, especially hot tea is helpful. I am sending up prayers that you feel better soon.

You poor thing. I hope you feel better soon. I hate being sick. Last weekend half our household had the plague. Mercifully they mostly recovered decently quickly (tho every last one of them had to have antibiotics to make it happen) so hopefully you’ll be on your feet in no time (bc sick is miserable and not just bc I’m a greedy snot or anything lol).

I’m so sorry you are so ill. Its ironic, when life is really chaotic and hectic, sometimes I wish for a couple of days in bed. Then when it happens I hate it, I hate being sick. Definitely go to the Doctor now, even if infection started as viral, sinus infections usually have secondary bacterial infections which require the right antibiotics (year of experience). I don’t know it they use antivirals for this type of illness, but they can be very effective. Sending chicken soup thoughts.

I have to agree with the folks who say go to doctor now. Your symptoms seem to be getting worse and you don’t want to be hospitalized with pneumonia. You can get really sick in a hospital. Go today for your own family’s sake. You can only watch those girl movies so long, then real life intervenes. Get well soon. Oh, and as far as pushing fluids go, if you are not on antibiotics, I find that hot water in my bourbon works as well as anything to wash down a couple of Tylenol. It isn’t for everyone, but it works for me.
Gail G says
Be a good girl and see the doctor. If you have a virus, you need some antibiotics. Rest. Feel better really soon.
Kathryn says
Antibiotics won’t do anything for a viral infection, but she did mention that it was a bacterial infection in her last post, and that everyone already has antibiotics for it! Hopefully this isn’t something else on top of that. 🙁
Robin Moore says
That’s why they ask weird questions like what color is your snot when you go. It gives them an idea if it is viral or bacterial. If its working on them, you need your own batch of antibiotics. If you tell them they gave everyone else antibiotics and after nursing everyone, you have it, they might just call some in for you. Save a trip.
Anne says
Kind advice and I agree but, FYI, antibiotics are only for bacterial infections. Have no affect on viruses
Amelie Milet says
I am so sorry. My mom is currently battling something, some kind of bronchitis (which weirdly enough she contracted right after her flu shot) from her coworkers and according to her coworkers it lasts for several weeks. She’s been coughing nonstop and just very tired in general… she has been to the doctor and she is supposed to leave next weekend for a 2+ week work trip to Asia which… as of right now doesn’t seem like she may be up for the task it’s that bad. I am really hoping I don’t catch it as I came to visit my parents this weekend. As usual my father is somehow immune to bacteria and seems perfectly fine. Definitely go see the doctor, don’t wait if you are feeling as sick as you are. There’s no point in waiting it out.

Do other people have doctor’s / clinics that are doing virtual appointments? The Cleveland Clinic has been doing it – and really pushing it during flu season – and it’s the best thing. I’ve only done it with my migraine doc, but between same or next day appointments and the lack of hassle, it’s been pretty amazing – and I can see how the push to have people not exert themselves more and increase their and other people’s exposure risk is another real win.

Since the discovery of antibioctics … it’s been go to the doctor … emergency room … urgent care ..
TAKING CARE of medical problems means having them long enough for a diagnosis to occur … Yucky Part!
Be sick, to avoid being ill. You were sick enough that a (something) overloaded your system and is making you ill.
Medications, Doctors, Urgent Care won’t stop that. They can & are dedicated to help BUT …
You and yours taking care of your SELVES, not just taking medications is how to get better. Put it all aside take care of you and yours. Be sick, drink fluids, eat healthy, sleep often & well. Follow doctor orders, let the outside stuff go after notifications.
I truly dislike being ill. It’s a nonstop process of fluids in one end and out the other. I keep saltine crackers handy cause food, bleh, cooking, achoo. Eating involves chewing which brings me back to … in one end and …

Just Jill FL says
Hon, it’s not going to be better by tomorrow. You’ll probably be worse, feel it, and not want to go in, even less than you do now. Please just go now, or if your physician has a call-a-nurse/doc function in the practice, Gordon can call them on your behalf since he’s the one with the voice currently. If everyone else needed antibiotics, it’s likely you will too.
The BDH will be here when you’ve recovered. Please take care of yourself, and stop taking care of anyone/everyone else. If you feel bad enough to want your Mummy ?♀️?♀️ this Halloween week, (sorry, bad joke for Gordon since everyone else is too sick to play along), then you are already way past time to go see a doc.

Hope you made it to the doctor’s. Hubby was down with a sinus thing for two weeks. It slipped into his chest and he was still super phlegmy after two courses of Augmentin. Both kids got it but I have somehow miraculously avoided it.
I know you have had HEAPS of medical advice over the years, but just wanted to give you my two cents’ worth. If you can, supplement meds with nasal saline rinses twice a day, and Umcka (it’s a tincture made from the root of a South African plant that can help cut symptoms). It is also sold under the name Kaloba. Airborne helps boost your immunity.
When kids get really bad, I do a steam treatment with eucalyptus. Pour boiling water in a sink, add a few drops of eucalyptus, then stand over it steam with a towel around your head and upper torso. Bend over steam, and inhale a few times. The towel acts as a tent, trapping steam in. Come up for air after you can’t take the heat anymore, then repeat a couple more times. For manly husband, who kicks up a fuss when he’s ill, I put the oil into an essential oil diffuser near him at night.
Please take care. My friend’s bf had food poisoning which turned into myocarditis. I am now super paranoid when flu symptoms worsen. Hope you feel better soon!

I was sick all of July and I had to travel at my most sick to to fly up to Calgary and back …it was respiratory,I was not hungry and I coughed until I felt inside out……being sick sucks….
One does tend to break down physically after really stressful events like having ones Dad visit and possibly criticize…..
In the last 12 Months I lost my Lipizzaner Mare to cancer then my knee replacement did not improve then my Mom died then I gained a bunch of weight out off stress, now in 2 weeks I have eye surgery and the idea of shots in my eye scares the piss out of me and my hair is coming out way to much in the shower…my Andalusian. Horse did not get better from shots in hocks and stifle ,and he still hurts and I have been trying to get the Vets to look at his high hip …so even more money ,and I can’t ride for at least 5 days after eye surgery….
Life……. it does not get better…just different
Just an amusing vent to make you feel better…is it working?
Cheers
Juni

Hope you go to urgent care. I was traveling and did not go. Ended up sick for 5 weeks, coughed so much my rib cage muscles tore, and I broke off a piece of the back of my eye. I now have an amoeba that is black in my vision. No fix. So please go in. This crud is bad.

Wish I could say something original, but I think all the previous posts have it covered. We love your writing and the worlds you share with us. Please take care of yourself. Prevention is good, as soon as you’re able, have your flu shot – hope this isn’t the flu, but your doctor should be able to tell you. Another oldy that’s on a comeback is pertussis (whooping cough), so that’s another vaccine to get as soon as you are well enough, TDAP (tetanus, diptheria and pertussis). An antibiotic will cure pertussis for most adults, but you’re left with a nasty cough for weeks and if you have any very young or very old in your life – they are the most vunerable and can get very sick. Eat well, drink plenty of water, take a good multi vitamin and sleep. We’ll all be here, very patiently waiting and oh so glad to hear that you are better.

Poor darling girl. Thanks for thinking of us with an update. Many good ideas here and let me add one more obvious one. Having autoimmune illness has taught me DUH! How all this stuff is connected. New home tricky weather stress from family overuse hand injuries PRESSURE and our every helpful body just breaks to slow us down. You are getting a lesson. Your body is politely saying STOP! You are important so don’t be dumb like me. Listen to your body and time out.

Rest and get better.
When I had flu b- disgusting disease- consuming elderberry juice, clear liquids, chicken noodle soup and rest kept me going.
Didn’t stop the pain, but I could breathe .
Made sure I got the flu shot this year

Constantly changing weather; wet then sunny, then wet again. Your immune system doesn’t know which way is up and for what should that system be prepared? I, too, have a sinus infection, and it’s the pits, but not as bad as a throw-up bug. I hope you feel better soon, and your dad is not taking home a souvenir of his own to share back there. If he didn’t catch it at your house, he always has the opportunity to pick it up in a plane full of germy strangers. Rest and get better, we are all sending good vibes in your direction.

Oh my goodness! Sorry to hear you are feeling so bad!! ?? I am sure Gordon is taking good care of you, although I do understand the desire (even though I am in my fifties now!) to want my mother when I am really, really sick! I hope you begin to feel better very soon! Do not worry about the blog or SOTB. The important thing is for you to rest and feel better! Do everything Gordon tells you to (well, … after further consideration I will say do ALMOST everything Gordon tells you to ?) he is, I am sure, trying to help and trying to make you better. If you are anything like me, you make a better nurse to everyone else, and a poor patient yourself. Lol! Try to be a good patient and get the rest you need to help you heal. Also, try to do all the things you tell your kids to do when they are in the same situation you are. I hope you feel much, much better very soon! ?

In my experience, Bacterial Sinusitis likes to turn into Bronchitis and/or pneumonia. I will be keeping my fingers crossed that this is not your experience, as well. Hope you all feel better soon!

Looks like you need Dr. Doolittle’s cup of honey with a spoon of tea in it.
Hopefully it was not related to the water quality degradation last week.
Weather is crazy right now.
Get well soon!
