Dear BDH,

Mod R is taking a couple of weeks off for the holiday and other reasons, which means you are stuck with me starting with this Saturday until after Monday 29th.

You are my favorite people and I’m very submerged in writing right now, which is why Mod R works with us in the first place. Mod R is much more generous in responding to emails. I cannot respond to any but the most pressing issues.

Maggie 2 has crossed 80K, and it’s looking like it might be 150 before we finish. We’re writing every day to make up for the time lost while being sick, and then we are signing things. Please respect our time.

I urge you to email only if you encounter a technical issue. That also includes replying to the newsletter. If you are responding to the newsletter email, you will get a form reply. If you need my attention because a book isn’t available or something broke somewhere, please use the website contact form.

In related news, the website has been periodically timing out. We are having a bot swarm, unfortunately, and our host, WP Engine, is aware of the issue and has implemented counter measures. We shouldn’t have problems going forward, but if the website is unavailable, give it a couple of minutes, it should pop back up.

Zaden

The intensity of Zaden’s stare eased a little. He gave her a slight, self-mocking bow. His voice gained a smooth overtone. “Prime Harrison.”

“Prime Price,” she said.

“You know my name. I’m truly flattered.  Perhaps we will see more of each other going forward.”

“Perhaps not,” Augustine told him.

Zaden grinned.  His body spun, like a piece of paper twisting into a spiral, and the red-headed teenager was back.  She gave them a long look and squeaked in a high-pitched voice.

“The suit is mid, Augustine. It’s giving beta. Later!”

She sauntered down the hallway toward Sutton’s office.

Augustine sighed and turned toward the elevator. They were out to the parking lot, before she said, “I like your suit. It goes with your eyes.”

“Thank you,” he told her.

“Since he was pretending to be a teenage girl, he had to read you.  It’s in the job description.”

The murderous demigod smiled, opened the rear passenger door for Lyla, and then held the car door open for her. “No worries.  I’m secure in my rizz.”

  29. I’m sad that my teenagers essentially ensured I understood all of that slang. I’m simultaneously ashamed and impressed with myself, lol.

    • Just go with impressed! Teens and tweens have a new word every week, and it’s hard to learn them all. Good job! Mine is still rolling his eyes at his classmates and their inability to stop repeating “6 7” in math class.

      Augustine spends a great of time learning all of that because he has to impersonate people effectively. He speaks Spanish, German, and French without an accent. He knows the latest slang. He had a collection of perfumes that he wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole in his off time. All part of the day job.

  56. thank you for the snippet, I have sometimes found that questions that arise for me are often answered in the comments by both the horde and ModR saving an email or web form so hopefully that will hold true for us all until ModR gets back from a hopefully wonderful break. thank you all for the writing that you do, every extra word that may be a headache for you is always gold for us, either in the finished book, or out takes thrown in to feed the hungry horde ☺️

  58. I love Augustine’s development from being basically heartless to Nevada and outright antagonistic to Connor in Burn for Me to how he is in this story. Having been around people who care for other people and are not only focused on their own gain (the Baylors) has really transformed him back into the friend Connor once had.

    I am so looking forward to this story! Thank you for writing it!

      Is there a title for the book that will include this snippet and the others we’ve Ben seeing?

      • I think it will be its own novella, but I don’t remember if I really read that on the blog, or if that is just wishful thinking 😅

  71. I can’t wait for Augustine’s book. I love the Hidden Legacies world. I am hoping we get a book from Bern’s POV, him falling for Runa, a book for Leon, and, of course, Arabella. There are so many characters and stories I would love to read about from this world.
