EMERALD BLAZE is releasing on August 25, 2020. For obvious reasons, we can’t do a real book tour, but we are doing a virtual one, which means everyone can go. 🙂
Two things before I link our schedule.
ZOOM/FACEBOOK LIVE
All stops on our tour are using either Zoom or Facebook Live. You don’t need to register for a Facebook Live meeting. You just have to have a Facebook account and visit the right page at the right time.
Zoom is video-conferencing software, which you can sign up for here: ZOOM. Zoom is a good program but it’s not meant to host very large gatherings, so most stops on our tour will ask you to register in advance. Please follow through if you plan to attend.
ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY WORLDBUILDING WORKSHOP
In a very rare turn of events, we agreed to teach a workshop on worldbuilding. This is a paid workshop offered through Virginia J. Piper Center for Creative Writing of Arizona State University. We are going to build a world in “real time” and take questions from the audience.
This will happen on Saturday, 08/22 at 10:00 am – 12:00 pm MST (01:00 pm – 03:00 pm EST.) You don’t have to be a student of ASU to attend. You just have to pay the fee. If you ever had burning worldbuilding questions you wanted us to answer, now is your chance.
To sign up for the workshop, go here. ASU is also hosting a free meet and greet for general audience, which you can find on our Appearances page. No fee is required for that one.
If you lose the link to our virtual book tour, you can access it from our homepage, right above the release counter for EMERALD BLAZE.
Susan says
Signed up for your workshop! For only $49, it is a massive bargain! Can’t wait!
Sakinah says
First? Thank you for all you do for the fans! Can’t wait for Catalina’s newest story! And for the extra mile you go for Ryder!
Susan E says
One of the silver linings of this pandemic! I live in the middle of nowhere so I have never been able to attend any of your book tours. I am looking forward to joining one of these.
Breann says
+1 ????
Melanie says
I’ve signed up. Thank you; it’s a bright spot to look forward to. I hope that your daughter is feeling better.
Toni says
I *literally* just said a couple of days ago that if there was ever any way to take a world-building class from you two, I’d be there in a heartbeat. I am so there. 😉 This is awesome, thank you!
Lora Tyler says
Y’all are awesome. I have already purchased your books that are coming. Well, everyone that I am able to. Namely, Blood Heir and Emerald Blaze. If the Iron and Magic 2 is up, I will order that too. No rushing you, just really love the books.
Christina A says
I’m so excited for the book!! So many things are delayed or cancelled this year, it’s nice to have something wonderful to look forward to 🙂
Clara says
This is great! I’m on the other side of the world so I can now attend one!
CharisN says
Well, pooh. I just tried to sign up for the ASU workshop and it says that the “course is full” General Registration and Student Registration. Do you think that its just late in the day for them or that it IS already full?
Kari Vo says
I’m sorry to say I tried to sign up for the writing course, only to get software glitches on the site. First it told me that some other writer’s course was full up, and did I want to be on their wait list? When I clicked “continue”, it attempted to put me on yet a third writer’s waitlist. Please, could you have a word with them?
Amanda in Austin says
I echo what @Kari Vo says – Same here. The waitlist it offers says ‘James Riley Course,’ on the link, but then following the link says ‘Carmen Machado Course.’
I thought I must be many hours late on this, but doesn’t look like I’m SUPER late.
Kris says
Same here. Would love to get on the waitlist, but the link isn’t working. 🙁
Al says
Also trying to get on the waitlist!
Breann says
+1 ????
Christy Bell says
Meep! I really hope the hospital has WIFI access for patients, as the release date is the day after I have radical surgery, and I’ll be in the hospital at least 10 days. I’d love to be able to devour it right away! (I’ll be predownloading a lot of stuff onto my kindle in case of no WIFI, but I’ve been eagerly awaiting this book and would love to have it on hand as well.)
Cherylanne Farley says
Outstanding! Thanks for mentioning time zones too. I’m always missing stuff because too early too late. PS also looking at “better “online service called Streamyard. Our local schools struggle with infrastructure when everybody in all the schools starts zooming at same time. I’ve just started investigating it. Nice informative FB group.
Amanda in Austin says
Looks like they may have somewhat fixed the world building course glitch – it’s still full, but now the waitlist link is described properly — though clicking it doesn’t go anywhere. 🙁 Drat!
Marjorie Lang says
It asks me if I want to get on the Waitlist, but when I click on the link it does nothing. At all. 🙁
Marjorie Lang says
Oh, I also wanted to point out that in Arizona, we don’t do Daylight Savings Time. That time of 10 AM MST is actually Mountain Standard Time, not Daylight.
The 1PM is Eastern Daylight Time. That’s why there’s a 3 hour difference instead of the two between Eastern Standard and Mountain Standard Time.
Mountain Standard is the equivalent of Pacific Daylight Time, so in the summertime just consider Arizona as being in Pacific Time.
Vicki says
Well i was too late to even get on the waitlist! However, if anyone is interested in honoring Ilonas’ Russian heritage, there is a really great Russian epic series on free on Amazon Prime. EKATERINA II. It runs 3 seasons and is about Catherine the Great. It’s got excellent acting, exquisite costumes and wonderful settings! It’s like the Russian equivalent of the Crown but on a more epic scale. It’s in Russian but has good subtitles. It isn’t completely historically accurate (of course) but interesting. It lead me to read about General Suvarov who is considered one of the greatest generals of modern times. He never lost a battle and fought against incredible odds with a poorly equipped army! Like 4,000 vs 50,000! I wanted to see how accurately his battles were depicted and he really did win against such incredible odds!
Arianna says
I’m so sad, I can’t attend any of your online events because they are scheduled when it’s late night here in Italy ????
I thought I could participate to one of your book tours finally ????
Corinna says
Ha, I signed up for the talk with Jeaniene Frost which is on a friday. I have looked at the timelines and it will be at 1 am on saturday in Germany ( I just hope I got that right). As I normally, start working around 5 am, probably I’ll go to bed early and then try to get another 2 hours afterwards, or, if I’m too excited, I’ ll just start working after the talk.
Who cares if it’s in the middle of the night, I’m really excited to see House Andrews live in action! JIPPEEEE
Corinna says
Hmm, or 3 am??? Help me out someone. Bte I just hope I’m in, just got a google- mail as requested. Should that be it? Anyone else got some kind of confirmation?
Jilly Wood says
I’m in the UK. This post wasn’t on the blog when I went to bed at midnight. I saw it at 7am and immediately tried to register for the workshop. It was already full. Tried to add myself to the waitlist, but I guess that’s full too because the waitlist link doesn’t go anywhere.
I think it’s wonderful that you’re offering this class. I would have loved to attend and I’m gutted to miss it. I know you are incredibly busy, but I was wondering if there is any way you could share some of the material or post a short version here at some point. Thank you.
Now off to check out the book tour events!
Jilly Wood says
Too late, again, though at least I made the waiting list this time so maybe I’ll get lucky. Thank you for adding extra names to the workshop.
karolina says
Oh no, the class is already full 🙁
Sivi says
In the UK too, I tried to get into the zoom event at the library as, with the time difference it might have been the best one to attend and it’s got both you guys and N.Singh ????????
It wouldn’t let me register without a valid 10 digit number. We don’t have 10 digit numbers over here ???????????? I’ve emailed them to see if they can fix it. But I think by the time they reply, it’s going to be full.
So I’ve tried to register for the talk with you guys and J.Frost instead and if I get in (fingerscrossed), I’ll then try to figure out the time difference.
If i can get up at 3am to get photos of a comet, i can get up to meet some of my favourite authors…. just need to make sure the time difference issue with all of the different timezones, don’t trip me up!!
Emma says
According to one of the Zoom sign-ups, the Authors will also be streaming the Zoom event(s) on their social media.
Has anyone seen confirmation of this from Team Andrews? Or that a recording will be released?
I don’t intend to interact, so don’t need to be on the Zoom call and/or watch it live, and am in the UK so there are difficulties, as explained by commenters above.
Sivi says
I’ve just heard back from the library. They removed the mandatory phone number feild. So I’ve just logged back on and managed to register. Love libraries ????????????.
Now just have to figure out the time difference. It works be great if recordings for the free events could be available for those who might not be able to attend, or couldn’t get registered. Wouldn’t it be the organisers who would host those? If they do, would it be possible for anyone who notices a link to post it on the chat/ in the comments for this blog on twitter?
Jenn says
Thank you! This is so great! It’s amazing how fast the summer has gone considering everything…looking forward to the book and being on one of these calls!
Lynn Thompson says
Thank you, Ilona Andrews, for the post. I preordered Emerald Blaze long ago so the reminder is great. Thanks for reminder about book tour.
Regarding world building class, I think you and Gordon will have a fantastic time. It’s a lot of hard work to do with little compensation for the amount of work required but personally the reward is great. It’s unbelievably wild when people track you down 20 years later (In a different locale with a different name) to thank you for something you taught them in class. Enjoy.
Mary Barton says
Well phoney the ASU class is already full but will try to do one of book tours. Hope your next time in Phoenix is not virtual.
Breann says
Does anybody know if you have to have the Facebook app to do Facebook Live? I just use it on the Internet with my phone, not the app (the app and I had disagreements on my previous phone and I gave up on it), but I would be willing to get the app to do the event, if necessary.
I also would like to second (or fiftieth or whatever) the request that the Zoom events be recorded for those of us unable to attend at that time due to confiding conflicting schedules or the event being full! Those sound amazing! ????
Breann says
Ugh! It shouldn’t say confiding conflicting, just conflicting. ????♀️ I’m going to blame it on a lack of sleep. ????????????
Breann says
Is there any way that the class will be recorded and available to purchase, since it’s full? I’m sure the school could make quite a bit more money if they’d sell the recording too (even if it’s not to keep, just watch for a limited time). Maybe at a discount, since there won’t be any actual participation? If anyone knows someone at the school, maybe they could suggest this? (Hint, hint) I’d pay to watch this class, even after the fact! ????????
MagicTrix says
And the authors should get “royalties” or whatever the term is for continued use of the product.
DianaInCa says
Thank you for doing a tour! I had enjoyed last year when you did the twitch talks. Have fun teaching the workshop.
Sleepy says
Im so sad.. I was thinking of getting into writing and was going to register for the ASU workshop. But it’s already full 🙁
EJ says
I am super excited about your virtual tour! I have never been able to attend your tours in the past so I think this is amazing for your fans. And I hope that you won’t be so exhausted you say “never again”! 🙂
I am super hopeful that based on the response (and hopefully) your interest, that you offer some more trainings on world building. I would love to attend but it is already full and the wait list seems like it is also full.
The tour information has made my day, tho, so thank you!
Carol says
Signed up for your 28 August event. Put it on my calendar with an alert. Since I have Kindle pre-ordered, I likely will have made it at least some of the way through Emerald Blaze before then. My sched may not allow me to gulp it all down in one sitting, but hey, I get to savor if I spread out my sessions with it. So exciting!
I have listened to the Audible of each of the books in the Hidden Legacy series *numerous* times. It’s a strong favorite. Thank you so much for these brilliantly entertaining adventures.
helen says
Ahhhhj the class is full already. Good for u and booo for me. Hopefully you will offer another one sometime.
Kelly M. says
OMG, Malaprops is only like an hour and a half away from me! Even though it’s virtual it still feels like you’re touring near me! [runs away squee-ing]
Mariana Neves says
Hello,
About the virtual book tour: is there any way international fans can register for the zoom talks? Since its pretty much impossible to see you guys in Brazil, I thought this would be a nice opportunity for us to join the tour from afar.
MagicTrix says
The class was full by the time I saw your blog post, but I did sign up for the waitlist. Doubt that many people will drop, however! So I second those who are hoping a recording will be made available in some way for those who wanted to attend, but couldn’t.
DameB says
OMG. This is officially the only silver lining I’ve found in the pandemic but… I’ll get to go to your book tour! Hoorah!
Carolin Sommer says
One of the few upsides of this crazy situation is that for once I don’t just see the book tour events but I might actually get to join via zoom (if anything works out, keeping my fingers crossed). That would be so cool…..
Cora says
Arizona is one of the few states that doesn’t go on daylight savings time. You might want to check the time for the session
KC says
I appreciate you letting us know.
Obviously you need to prioritize contractual commitments. I would also say now is the time to help support businesses in the industry to help them weather the storm so they are there afterwards too. Ryder is awesome, and much loved by me already, but it can wait. 🙂
Also, with your recent letter about covid and the impact to your family, I’m surprised in retrospect we were getting any Ryder recently. Don’t take this the wrong way, but you’re like a giant care bear. I can feel the genuine care and affection you have for us, general human compassion you have, and you not wanting to disappoint us, and also wanting to give us a little something to buoy our spirits.
So thank you for the care. Whether it’s Ryder, or Hidden Legacy, or some other work, knowing there’s more coming is a treat no matter how or when we get it. ^_^
And since you share your art with us, I’m gonna share my art with you. It may just be the funniest and most ironic comet neowise photo taken, I nabbed it at at Dinosaur Valley State Park in Glen Rose, Texas. Happy Friday. ^_^
Breann says
I love it! ????????
Kris says
Excited for the 8/26 Cary Library event – was happy to pre-order Emerald Blaze and extra glad to support an independent bookseller! See you then 🙂
Valentina says
This is so exciting! I am from Argentina so I never thought I’d be able to attend one of your stops during a book tour.
Can’t wait to read Emerald Blaze!
Kris Vasquez says
Dang, course is full. Would love to see a recording!
Kate Beattie says
Oh wow! A virtual book tour. That’s fantastic. The one upside to the pandemic is the chance to connect with my favourite musicians and authors. I stayed up till 3 am one morning last month to listen to Dave Nachmanoff
JR says
Will any of the e-events be recorded and a view link made available?
Belinda says
OOOOOO!!! You guys are the absolute BEST at the world-building: it’s what brought me to you to start with (I found The Edge first) and kept me coming back, series after series.
I wish I had the extra jack for the workshop (even though it IS reasonable as all get out, I’m still catching up medical bills and have to save my disposable pennies for , you know — books!); but I’m glad you are teaching others. As a voracious reader, I will probably benefit from that in the long run, anyway.
Thanks for that
none says
Have you heard of Jitsi meet? Its like Zoom but no registration needed in computers. Only a link. No time limit in the meet. I know youre probably not going to use it now but its a good thing to know in quarantine times.
Hope you are well.
John says
Hey, took me awhile to figure out that Emerald Blaze had an excerpt up on your site. Thanks for that.
Susan says
It took me a while, but I finally figured out why ASU says there’s a 3-hour difference between Mountain and Eastern Time — Arizona is on Standard Time, and the East is on Daylight Time.
I’m offering this just in case I’m not the only one who was confused.
Sharon says
Missed out on the workshop, but I’m on the waiting list. Is it awful that I hope you have some cancellations? Looking forward to the tour chat anyway. 🙂
V :) says
Can you tell me if you get more $$$ if we buy from a bookstore vs Amazon?
Ilona says
Amazon or any other ebook retailer gives us the most money.
Tylikcat says
Happy Bookday!!
