Update: Adventurous lawyer was found. Thank you!
::waves:: Usually when we are writing fictional contracts, we use real life boilerplates. Unfortunately, we need a contract which gives one party the authority to shut down a building site if someone is murdered and the other parties involved refuse to cooperate with the private investigator.
It’s very hard to find “in the event of a magical murder don’t impede PI” contract boilerplate.
If you are a lawyer and don’t mind writing a couple of paragraph of legalese with magic flavor, we would be delighted to buy an hour or two of your time. Please email me at ilona@ilona-andrews.com with subject Legal Help in the title. We can only choose one person, so please don’t be offended if someone else beats you to the punch.

LOL, let me know if you need someone to do some creative medical writing. Though some of the clinical trial protocols I read and have to provide feedback on verge on fiction. ‘Yes, your protocol inclusion and exclusion criteria would be the ideal patient population to answer the research question. However these patients do not exist, and even if they did, they would not be willing to undergo 3 CAT scans, 4 bronchoscopies and biopsies to participate in a clinical trial.’

Oh man! I came to this too late!
OTOH, I would only be setting something up that complies with Ontario law (Canada).
But it would have been soooo much fun.
Congrats to the lawyer who swooped in quickly!!
(Also, for once it is WONDERFUL that I’m not the joke –being a lawyer)
Steph says
This made me laugh so hard because I am also Canadian and thinking how our law would differ ????

MZ I too spend my days reading CT protocols and your reply is spot on! Did you make it to PRIM&R this year? The IRB Pop booth was epic.
Can’t wait to read about contracts involving magical murder and our favorite PIs.

Thank you, Ilona Andrews for the post. I am sure you will find an adventurous lawyer that has passed USA bar exam.
One of my nephews is aiming to be a future lawyer or future felon (Dad said in which case he would be buried under courthouse in a keyless cell). So far he is walking the straight and narrow. One of his brothers got addicted to pain pills while being treated for TBI so he has had his eyes opened.
Good luck on your quest.

Neither here nor there but my father-in-law was Fire Chief in a rural Ky. volunteer fire department . He always had interesting stories to tell , and he told me that when the fire department is called to a fire on a property they ” own” that property until the fire is out and they leave. He was the only fire fighter I have ever known , one of the “greatest” generation and a truly amazing man. If you know a fire fighter ask for a story, I expect they all have some tell.
Nancy says
Wouldn’t limit it to magic. They’d just use mundane means. ????

Ilona I see from the fan comments (didn’t see yours) that you found someone. If it doesn’t work out, my hubby is an AV-rated attorney, licensed in Texas with 20 years of experience and will do it for free because he thinks it sounds like fun.
