On Monday I spent a couple of hours on Zoom discussing things with Nora, the director of the Graphic Audio’s crew behind the full-cast adaptation of Clean Sweep. We talked about pronunciation, cast decisions, and so on, and you can be sure that the alien terms will be pronounced the way Gordon and I intend them to be. I am really looking forward to it. It was a lovely conversation.

They put a little teaser on their Facebook story and also on Instagram. It’s shiny.

The thing about audio books, games, and other adaptations is that they are transformative by nature. As a creator, you know that the source material will be altered and you hope the alterations are true to the central premise of your work. I am happy with the Graphic Audio’s approach. In particular, I’m really excited about Caldenia.

Now for a question: does anyone know if there is an Innkeeper wiki floating somewhere out there? Wicked Scribes used to have an amazing one, but the site is down. We needs it. We really needs it.

      Oh! Erm… Well, I’m the admin of that one, as it happens… But it’s a public wiki, so it’s open to other users to contribute to as well, as some people already have done.

      Most entries are not very detailed yet, but I have been meaning to add more detailed information, and this reminded me to do so. 🙂 Now seems like a good time to do that before the next book. There’s also a bunch of Sweep of the Blade characters that still need entries.

      Have also been meaning to ask House Andrews if it would be okay to post the book covers on the wiki (the covers only, *not* the interior illustrations). I wasn’t quite sure if including the covers would qualify as “fair use” as it’s for informative purposes rather than review. But regardless, I’d very much like for the wiki to remain respectful of both the authors’ copyright and wishes, so that’s why I decided to err on the side of caution and not allow image uploads there.

        Thank you so much for your work and for the care you have! The covers are fine to post, as long as they are posted in their entirety- as in not just the art, but the cover featuring the title and author etc.
        I hope that made sense ????

          Yes, the covers will be posted in their entirety, with proper credit to IA/Doris Mantair of course, and not be cropped or changed in any way.

          And if another user uploads other illustrations, I’ll remove them asap.

          (I have a family member who’s a photographer, so it’s been drilled into me to be veerrry careful when using other people’s images. 🙂 That’s why I always try to err on the side of caution.)

  8. So unbelievably excited about this. Innkeeper Universe is my very favorite, and that’s really saying something when I’ve read a book every 1 to 2 days since I was about 9.
    So glad Innkeeper is getting all these adaptations in different mediums.

    • I have just double checked and it works, you do need to click approve to see Facebook stories however 🙂

  15. Will the Graphic Audio teaser be available anywhere other than Facebook? I cut the cord there a long time ago so have no access. If not, I’ll wait until the graphic audio novel is released.

  22. NYAHHHHH, I am so excited! Can I, once again, talk about how Dina is my most favorite Ilona Andrews character? 🙂

    I’ve had to move three times during the last 11 months, not entirely uplifting, and I’ve been leaning heavily on podcasts to keep me company while cleaning or unpacking or packing. I am excited about this graphic audio. I wonder if it’s like the Business Wars podcast.

    I look forward to buying whatever it is you are unveiling in the new year 🙂

    I imagine it’s fulfilling watching your finished books take on new life in a variety of forms (audio play, comic, game). Now we just need a movie. Musical? Broadway?

    For those of us without Facebook, can we get the teaser?

    I’m sad Orro isn’t in Clean Sweep. I’m excited for him.

  31. Thank you, Ilona Andrews for the amazing graphic. Thank you Mod R for info as I don’t do Facebook either. Or Instagram. As my millennial nephews say I am electronic illiterate. ????. But it’s okay. I don’t mind waiting.

    I have a niece who is into Graphic Audio so I will be looking for it. Her taste is a bit eclectic but that makes us human individuals. ????

    • Hi Fran,

      The Graphic audio adaptation is not a re-recording of a single narrator audiobook: it is a full-cast dramatic adaptation with each character voiced by a different actor, more like listening to a play.

  36. Is that…? Naw, it can’t be, but my immediate thought was that was Klaus and… possibly Sean? I can’t remember if there was a description of Klaus, but I keep hoping for some Klaus action after your teasers with him. I loved it when HE was the one who dragged George into the Arbiters.

  43. Didn’t you request ideas for future stories? I think that a long short story or novella about Helen, teenage vampire, would be awesome. Easier to write since you both have teenage daughter life experience to draw upon for material.

    • Heh. No, there was never a request for story ideas ????, nor will there ever be.

      House Andrews made a poll about which series the fandom would like a sequel for next.

  46. So when you say the audio adaptation will change the source material, do you mean the actual words from the books or just that the characters possible different emphasis/interpretation on traits/viewpoints, and stuff like that?

    • Hi Lisa

      I’ve got Graphic Audio’s versions of the Serrano Legacy & Vatta’s War by Elizabeth Moon – in those you can sit listening to them with the book(s) in front of you following along; they make some small changes, mostly the ‘said Aunt Grace’ type of descriptions as you can tell who was speaking because they’re all unique voice actors. They also tend to get streamline some of the descriptions….and either have a narrator, or have it ‘read’ by the first-person narrator character.

      Best suggestion I can give you for how they tend to modify the books is to pop to the Graphic Audio website and hit ‘preview’ for a random book, whilst having Amazon up and ‘look inside this book’ (or send a sample to your kindle) – the previews tend to come from the early pages.

      They also add background music and sound effects.

      It’s more of a radio play than a reading.

    • Hey Tamberlin,

      The teaser was an Instagram/Fb story, they only last 24 hours. It is not there anymore. To put you at ease, you did not miss a preview, it was a picture of Clean Sweep with a shiny filter and music overlay.

  52. This is something I wish all audio books would do-have different voices for each character. Is there a date when we can purchase this?

  54. Have you considered adding a pronunciation guide to your website? I, for one, would love to have one… writing it out would be great, although through the wonders of technology, you could possible do an oral one, as well?

  57. I can’t wait I have always loved the full cast audio versions of the tamora Pierce books they truly come to life. And any of your wonderful works that offer a copy by those wonderful people I will definitely support and purchase the second copy.

  61. Ooooh. Guessing by that image, there’s going to be an Innkeeper adaptation on Webtoons (or a similar mobile- friendly comic site)?! This makes me happy. Looking forward to it!
