It is 2023, the year of the Rabbit in the Chinese calendar, which will officially begin on January 22. Rabbits jump high so our highs will be very high and our lows will be very low.

Never mind all that.

I wish you a boring year. May you have as few up and downs as possible and may your rabbit be lazy and gentle and take naps instead of running in panic. May your carrots be plentiful and sweet and your nests soft and warm. Let this be a year we all rest and rebuild after the trials of the previous two.

  8. Happiest New Year. Low key celebrating and in bed by 11:30pm. West Coast. Trying to get 8 hours of sleep every night. My new cardio workout is walking and exercise bike to compensate for knee problems. Hoping to finally lose those Covid-19 pounds. More art and me time and learning a new language- French. So I can watch one of my French shows in the original audio. Art du Crime.

  15. Happy New Year! I stayed home to keep pets calm (and they were fine) and spent the night with egg nog, the new Witcher soundtrack, and Sweep of the Heart… which I finished at 5:30 a.m. Here’s to a calm, sweet year!

  28. Happy New Year House Andrews, MoD R and her team, and to all of my fellow BDH members.
    Today is turning out to be the first Sunday since we’ve moved that we didnt HAVE to do anything except laundry and lay on the couch.
    It isnt freezing outside here in NJ so I got up and let the little one ride his bike up and down the street, forage for sticks and interesting rocks, generally be a 9 year old outside. I hoping for more calm boring days in the year to come!

  38. Thank you for this! The same to you and yours. I could definitely use a less chaotic year. Though it will be full of change with my sister moving away to Germany (we’re in the UK, so not so far really) for a new job, and me stepping in to help look after her dogs (who are staying with her partner here, but with his job I will be on duty with them at least one day a week). And the snake! cause her partner won’t do anything with him ???? So here’s to a straight forward, boring year. And if my real bunnies, Loki and Moon, could also follow and be nice and boring this year with no medical dramas, that would be grand!

  43. Happy New Year HA, Mod R, BDH!! Hoping for a great year, calm and happy, but every bunny comment above only brings to mind one of my favorite books, Watership Down. Yikes. Adventure is great in books but maybe we can be the boring, fat, calm farm bunnies?!

  44. In the Vietnamese zodiac it will be the Year of the Cat. Either way, Happy New Year and good health and wealth to us all!

    • Now that sounds more realistic. Cats can be wonderful or sneak up on you and attack you while you’re sleeping. It could go either way. I think I’m hoping for more of a bunny year, than a cat year though. But maybe that’s because I was born in the year of the rat? ????‍♀️????

    • Fruits Basket is my only source of knowledge for the Chinese zodiac, so I’m glad the cat made it somewhere on the rotation.

    I am a water rabbit, according to the Chinese calendar.

    My 2023 is not looking much better than 2022. We started right after Christmas with the news that our Texas son’s brain tumor, which has been growing very slowly after the first surgery in 2019, is suddenly growing very quickly. A consultation with the surgeon is on January 10th. We both will fly out for the surgery, but my husband will be the one to stay with him for weeks afterward. I would gladly do it, but my husband says it is his turn. I will watch our disabled daughter at home.

    So we need health for Ryan, and jobs for son Aaron and son in law Jeremy.

    Being able to play with 3 of our grandchildren daily, while Debbie and Jeremy live in our guest house, is no hardship. But they do need money coming in.

    Aaron and Samie need to get out of California, so the closing of the medical laboratories where he worked for 7 years is not necessarily bad, but it is a scary time when they have a new baby. He has multiple job offers and he will choose one when they get their home in Palmdale fixed up and rented out.

    Life has been weird the past few years. Deaths and births. Drastic surgeries which have gone well. Our farm was a forced sale by the state but they paid us well for it. Our business burned down but insurance paid well for it. Do we laugh or cry?

    Bring it on.

  90. About 15 years ago, I was driving home from work on New Year’s Eve.
    Stopped at a Stoplight, looked over, and I’m sitting right next to a cop car, with the prescribed single occupant.
    After a moment of thought, I rolled down my window, and waved my hands in the “Roll down your window so we can talk” gesture.
    “Yes?”
    “I wish for you and all of your friends, a very boring New Year’s Eve!”
    As the light turned green & i started off, he got the biggest grin, and shouted “Thank you!”

    • My husband is law enforcement and they hope for this every holiday season! You were dead right on this.

  91. I wish you a boring year as well. I used to have a house rabbit. She was well content to lay around and snarfel the broccoli and radish treats. She never met a foot she didn’t want to curl up next to. She occasionally thumped her back foot, but to her, that was an entirely sufficient level of enthusiasm. She loved her cat, and me, and that was enough for her. May we be like her.

  94. I am a wood rabbit and so this is an unlucky year for me and I need to wear red to counter this. Apparently red socks and red underwear are specifically recommended but I can’t buy them for myself or they won’t be lucky. My husband is on the job so I CANNOT WAIT to see what he comes up with… -shudder-

  99. Very Happy New Year – a freight forwarding company usage later in order to reach Australia and I have my House Andrew Merch……now which of my four awesome new mugs shall I drink tea from first while using my new mouse pad….Totally worth it.
