Some of you are in Europe, where the book has landed early, and we are beginning to get emails about Magic Triumphs. We provided a place for you to talk with other readers. On top of this blog, there is a stickied post, which means it will stay on top no matter what else we post. That post lists some threads where you can discuss the book and the series with other readers.
Some of you are very sad that the series is over. We understand, but we feel Kate and Curran earned their HEA.
It doesn’t mean that this is a permanent goodbye. We are still hoping to get Roman’s series off the ground. Another Hugh book is slated for 2019, and some of the familiar faces will be showing up. I’m sure there will be novellas featuring Kate in the future. Possibly even novels, although not for a while and probably never again in a 10 book arc. That was a long series. Toward the end the books were very draining.
So more stories are coming, but this story, the one about Kate and Roland, is finished. It’s a good place to stop. 🙂
Thank you for hanging out with us for all these years. But don’t go anywhere. More cool stuff is coming.
Omar Mtz says
I really do hope we get Roman, I would like to read from his perspective his interaction with Chernobog.
Gretchen says
Ilona once mentioned a possible Roman trilogy. I, for one, would love that! Love, love, love Roman!
Ali Em says
I always picture Adam Driver as Roman.
JLH says
That’s great casting. I couldn’t agree more
Elodie says
I love what you’re writing, I’m not leaving you, love you guys, thank you for all those years, for working hard and giving us Kate Daniels, can’t wait to read Magic Triumphs ~~~ 🙂
Catlover says
Europe has it before us, how did that happen? Oh well, I won’t be able to read it until the next day anyway, such is life.
Jim Huffman says
I’ll be loyal…loyally re-reading them over and over again as I have since we started this journey! Thank you for Kate and her world.
Christine A says
What makes your books so amazing ate the supporting characters. They are all people we want to know more about. You make each of your characters so entertaining. I love Deisandra and feel that her character definitely has opportunity to find a HEA while growing as a leader and mother.
I am really sad that the Kate arc is ending but am excited about future novels in their world. Thank you for the stories they allow me to escape when I’m having a rough day.
Lynne Binkley says
Ditto!
AngelMercury says
I’ll be sad that it’s over, but glad that Kate and Roland will have resolved and Kate and Curran get they’re HEA. I agree, they do deserve it. The Kate world is rich with so many interesting characters I look forward to you guys hopefully giving more of them a chance to tell their stories.
Can’t wait to read it, I’ll prob get teary eyes. But Roman and more Hugh, and hopefully more Julie and Dali and everyone else later… That’s exciting too.
Jean says
The Dali stories are what got me to the whole KD world – especially loved Dali racing cars even though she wears serious prescription glasses. My teenaged self really appreciates her sass!?
Patricia Schlorke says
Definitely agree. I really like that Dali can get under Jim’s skin real fast. Her driving makes him just about break out in hives. Pookie and Dali’s rock! ?
Patricia Schlorke says
Dali….autocorrupt at work.
Jenna Levitski says
Its always sad to have an ending- but I am excited to see where you go now! I love your writing and I can’t wait for the next new adventure!
Mary H says
I am sad, because I hate saying goodbye, but I agree that Kate and Curran have earned their HEA. Can’t wait to read it. Thank you for all these years of adventures with these wonderful badass women (Kate, Andrea, Julie and Desandra, and remembering Aunt Bea) and their guys. ?
Akeru Joyden says
I’m still begging for more Julie and Derek… I loved Magic Stars. I want more… well, actually I want more of the Dragon too… and Roman, and Hugh…
And Innkeeper collateral, and, well…
Get To Writing! I really don’t care what you write about, just write! Or dictate…
I can happily say that you two are among only a tiny few authors that I devour without even reading the blurb… you, Patricia Briggs, Anne Bishop, Jim Butcher, Wen Spencer, and Nalini Singh.
And I have worn out my first edition paperbacks of everyone of them… 😀
Ange in Australia says
Oooooh, two new names for me there. I’ve not read Jim Butcher and Wen Spencer. All the rest are in auto-buy for me. ?
kommiesmom says
Wen Spencer writes slowly, but, boy, does her stuff pack a punch!
She has the best first line of any book I have ever read:
“The wargs chased the elf over Pittsburg Scrap and Salvage’s tall chain-link fence shortly after the hyperphase gate powered down.”
“Tinker”, page 1.
Boom! Tell me you don’t want to know what comes next.
Enjoy!
Deb says
How about this first line: On one otherwise normal Tuesday evening I had the chance to live the American dream. I was able to throw my incompetent jackass of a boss from a fourteenth-story window. ?
From monster Hunter international.
Ilona says
Too long. Not a fan of that series in general.
But I have a few for you.
“Tuesday at dawn, Los Angeles trembled.” Dean Koontz, Whispers.
“Every summer Lin Kong returned to Goose Village to divorce his wife, Shuyu.” Ha Jin, Waiting
” It was the day my grandmother exploded.” Iain M. Banks, The Crow Road.
And of course nothing beats “Call me Ishmael.” 🙂
LeAnn Morgan says
I agree with your list of favorite authors 100%…and yet I return to the IA books more than any of the others. It’s the texture and quality of the writing. Characters have distinct, consistent voices. The plotting is tight, but the pleasure for me is in the details. I return to scenes over and over just to enjoy the cinematic sweep. All of IA’s writing creates such vivid images that the stories really do come to life.
My appreciation Of their craft grew even more after reading the blog posts on writing style and their critiques. When reading an IA book there’s never any confusion about who’s speaking or what’s happening. Never a “really?!” because a character’s thought or action doesn’t ring true. I always feel that I’m in good hands when reading an IS story, whether it’s an Innkeeper chapter (in this age of bingeing the weekly serial is a rare torture—uh, treat), Kate or Hidden Legacy. That’s all too rare in a world of self-published and seemingly unedited wish fulfillment fantasies that leave me with whiplash from trying to follow the characters’ monologues that go on and on.
So thank you IA for caring, for not phoning it in during the long Kate arc, and for being so generous and patient with fans who say “write faster!” You’ve spoiled us by being so damn good.
harukogirl says
The possibility of Roman makes me SO MUCH less sad. Because Kate and Curran have earned their HEA multiple times over, and Roman is one of my all-time favorite side characters. I REALLY want to watch him fall 😀
Siobhan says
Where in Europe? I live in Austria, and have just checked Amazons Germany, England, France, and Italy, and all say the 28th or the 30th. I have it on pre-order for Kindle from Amazon US, but I would happily buy a paper copy to get it in two days instead of a WHOLE WEEK. So where in Europe?
Ilona says
Check your local store for paper copy. They went on sale this week.
Tiff says
Brb going shopping
Wait it is 00:41

Alex R. says
Hmmmm…. If I fly to Europe and get the book, I think I’ll be back yesterday, with the time change. Then I’ll know today already what happened.
Time travel is fun.
Patricia Schlorke says
You sound like Nalini Singh. She mentions on her blog that she lives “in the future” since she lives in New Zealand.
Linda says
If you lived here in Alaska the 180 parallel goes thru. We are the furthest east and west you can go. I’ve always wondered if I kept going forwards and back again across it…would I stay forever young.

Siobhan says
My comment was just really weird. It should have read “Thanks!” Not my name.
Siobhan says
I found it. And I can’t justify an extra 30€ at the end of the month to have it 4 days earlier. I will have to settle for hating everyone who has it already with an intensity equal to how desperately I want it.
So there it is: I hate you all. Furiously and passionately. I’m going to go reread Maud’s novella now.
Sue says
Hey,
you can’t hate me … I wanted to find it desperately here in West Germany and cancel my Amazon preorder for the hardcover version (a brilliant and exciting plan) but could not get it at a bookstore. ?.
But I will probably – maybe – survive waiting another 4 days …
Siobhan says
I’m only hating those people who already have it, I swear! I’m including everyone who got an ARC and the AL’s editors, beta-readers*, proofreaders, family, friends, and dogs in that as well.
MINE. NOW.
From the bottom of my nefarious, envy-ridden little** heart.
___________
*Even though I don’t think I want to be a beta-reader for IA. I love the finished books too much.
**it’s really small. Tiny.

Congratulations! You Authorlords are on my list of people “with stick-to-it-ness”, and so to be held in esteem.
Kylie Jamieson says
I’m in Australia and thought i’d just check our local book store and NO they don’t have it yet for sale. And to make it even worse, its not available here to the 15/9. WT Lucky I’ve got an ereader 🙂
Sandy says
I’m sad to see the end of this series with Kate and Curran–but they do deserve a HEA. I will happily read any and every thing you care to write in the future. I am currently rereading the entire Kate series to be prepared for the final book. I can’t wait for it! You guys rock!!
Gailk says
After 10 books Kate and Curran deserve HEA . They have been through so much, and we the BDH have been with Ilona and Gordon each word, sentence and paragraph.
It has been and continues to be one of the most exciting, dramatic, difficult (Aunt B it still hurts to think of her sacrifice) and funny( Grendel, Ascanio just in his teenage angst) series.
The Kate Daniels series not only told stories but showed the qualities of loyalty, courage , stubbornness and ultimate the power of family and love.
And the stories are just as wonderful on the second, third time you read them .
And don’t forget the Princess Bride quotes.
Thank you for making such a outstanding reading experience.
And yes , I will keep reading , looking forward to more KD in any form , Roman or Julie or Derek.
And more Hidden Legacy,
And Hugh and Elara
And Helen , she has to recover.( it reminds me of the stories they told about Dickens and Little Nell in his serialized books.)
Just thank you and continued success.
Keep writing, we will keep reading.
I wish I could go to Dragon Con. But I have to work.
PS thank you to Brandi for all her hard work.
Zazreil says
I am really happy to hear there will be a Roman novel. I do like him lots. I am hoping later for a story about Kate and Curran’s Son
Ebonii says
Yes! I’ve been hoping and be waiting for Roman! I find him hilarious.
Lauryn says
You are personally responsible for every penny I give to Audible. Once I fell in love with Kate, Curran and their world in print I wanted to be able to listen while doing everything else I do. Even if Renee Raudman never does another Audio for you, her characterizations made the KD, Innkeeper’s, Hidden Legacy and Edge series EXPLODE off the page for me. I have read and listened to these series so many times. They are forever an extended family in my world, now.
I mourn the end of the series while celebrating their HEA. And I’m thrilled to hear the potential for more spinoffs. No series I’ve ever read has privided such a plethora of potential for spin-off. It IS a comfort. And, no one else does that as well as you two.
To this day, I’ve cried more ugly tears over our beloved Aunt B; “Aunt B’s got you!” ( How the heck does anyone write a character that grabs your heart so fully so fast and incinerates you over her loss?). Or, Bran whose “let me go, Dove” will forever ring in my ears and whose willing sacrifice of his blood enobled him? I’m tearing up just remembering these scenes.
Or Derek, whose nobility is woven into the threads of his DNA from ground zero(yes, PLEASE, GODS!!!! give him the love and HEA he deserves!!)and who comes back from “they broke him, they broke the boy”. We knew Mauro as an almost incidental character( okay, no one in your books is really EVER incidental!) but as small as his role was his loss gutted me.
With Hughs Iron series (THANK you!!!!) I see the possible redemption for him that I’ve had a tiny kernel of hope for since first meeting him.
So, yeah, after the book comes out next week in US markets I’ll probably post a bit on the mourning threads. Tonight it just bubbled up and over.
Sure, you’re everyday people, and. I don’t deify you but boy do I cherish YOUR magic and your gifts. My storied world is forever enriched by those you have brought to life in the written word.
(p.s. I just wish I had an editor as my grammar and punctuation are horrific, I know. So, apologies for that.)
Milagros says
Yes. To all of it.
And Yay!!!! for Roland.
Prospero says
Books about Julie please. Thank you for a wonderful series. I look forward to devouring it as soon as it is out on my bookstore’s shelves.
Lara says
Aaaagggggggghhhhhhhhh I can’t wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Frankie says
Will we get more Julie and Derek stories? Please I’d love to see how their story plays out.
Sarah Gibbs says
Wait! How come Europe already has MT? I thought it wasn’t coming out til the 28th?!?
Ashling says
I’m in Ireland and we get it on the 24th. Can’t wait ?
Kelsey says
Roman’s series?? Yaaaaas!
Nancy Jung says
I read everything you write but deep, deep, deep down, I would really like a series on Jim and Dali. It’s been 10 years since I picked up a KD book and you have never disappointed your readers. Well done on finishing one of the best fantasy series I have ever read!!!!
Joanne says
YES!!!!! ROMAN SERIES!!!
I am over the moon about this. My friend is already jumping for joy about this possibility as well.
He already looks like he belongs on a pirate romance novel cover and add in his hilarious crazy family, the volhvs, witches, and pagan god rivalries… this is a surefire win.
He’s such a great character. So dark with his God and sharp demeanor but a really good guy. His eccentric self deserves to be happy! Can you imagine the reaction of a girl coming home to a house with all of those crazy no trespassing signs and pet guard scorpion?! The fantastic possibilities are endless with a Roman series. You guys are still churning out great works! Hopefully there’s time for this one too!
Drew says
Roman! Yeah!! Also Julie?
I loved (LOVED) Kate, but I can’t wait to see what else happens in their world.
Jo says
What about the Grey Wolf series? Any plans to continue that?
Mehjabin Haque says
Sad for kate.. hope to see her and Curran in the future 🙂
Jessica Smith says
Thank you, so very much, for sharing Kate and friends with us. You guys are always top of my list and I will continue to look forward to everything you put out. I love seeing your snippets, even if I refuse to read them; I love surprises. Just knowing you are still creating makes me happy.

The Authorlords are the best ?
Ista in Sydney says
I’m going to re-read the entire series now the final book is about to drop onto my Kobo. I’ve been holding off since book 8. They’ve been on my ereader but I’ve been waiting so I can binge read through the entire series.
Susan says
It’s okay to be a little sad. I confess I keep the series handy for comfort reading. Reading is something that helps calm me when I am stressed or upset, and a book I know and love helps the most. Your books are always a go-to for me. And even if I re-read the old books I will still eagerly look forward to, buy and read the new!!!!
Linda Moody says
It would be nice if I could get the books when I order them. Your publishing house is not fair in their distribution. I enjoy your books. Wish there were more to your Alpha origins series.
Dee says
Not sad.. I wish all of the characters in these stories well and look forward to future fantastical world building and interesting new characters (human and not so human) from my favorite authors.. I will miss Ghastek though ?
Bibliovore says
I am prepped for the Midnite Reading to begin. I am still awake at 7am, having read stuff all night. Going to turn in now and sleep til I awaken to await the release. My tablet is charged. I have a comfy chair and my SO has been warned not to disturb me after midnight unless life is threatened.
Lizabeth says
I have to admit to being mystified and incredibly impressed that a husband/wife work partnership can function so successfully on something as intricate as a book series. My husband and I finished our basement, several years ago, on our own. ? (It was the drywall that nearly did us in.) I have been in love with him for over 20 years, but I’d probably beat him senseless if we had to closely collaborate on another long-term project. You guys are truly amazing for more reasons than just the fabulous stories and characters, lol.
Fera says
Congratulation for finishing Kate and Roland’s stories! It was really a ten years of eventful journey! Thank you so so much for sharing their stories with us.
Ronette says
Sad this arc is over but loved it and can’t wait to see which of the other characters that you decide to explore in their own stories. Although I’m not so sure Kate and Curran’s HEA is going to be very smooth with Conlan -haha! It’s so easy to stay in your novels, they occupy alot of space in my head. Bottom line is – you write, i read. Thank you for so, so many hours of enjoyment!
