Hi everyone, Mod R here.

Graphic Audio have just added the preorder link for the Magic Gifts novella, Kate Daniels 5.5. The release will be May 13th on all platforms – that means for the GA Access app and Audible, Hoopla, Chirp etc. Only one release date from now on, woo!
It isn’t often that Kate Daniels and the Beast Lord Curran get to take a break from protecting their pack and enjoy some time for themselves. So when Curran offers Kate a romantic dinner in town, there’s no way she’s going to pass.
But their quiet night doesn’t stay quiet for long. The trouble starts with a necromancer dying at a nearby table, continues with bloodthirsty vampires crashing though the windows, and ends with more blood on the walls than any dining establishment needs.
Pulled into a deadly game neither wants to play, Kate and Curran find themselves dealing with the vile undead and tolerating a clan of maniacal, hard partying Vikings while desperately trying to save the life of an innocent child…
Magic Gifts does not currently exist in traditional audio format (only one narrator) – House Andrews are looking into options to make that happen for us, but for everyone looking to complete their audio collections, Graphic Audio are here with a dramatized version.
There is also a slight amendment to the Graphic Audio release for Magic Slays – the release has slightly shifted to April 3rd (again, one release for all platforms/retailers). This dramatized version also contains the bonus Julie novella Magic Tests from Small Magics.
Lots of listening goodies!
I know I have to end this with a brief “what is Graphic Audio” for all the newcomers: they are a company that produces full-cast dramatized adaptations of books, with each character being interpreted by a different actor, and adding soundtrack and sound effects, similar to a radio theatre play. Their tagline is “A movie in your mind” and I think they fully deliver! Here is a post with instructions on how to create an account and app stream or download the other file formats.
Woo Hoo! Graphic Audio Happy Dance!
This is not to be confused with New Book Announcement Happy Dance or New Serial Post Happy Dance or other assorted BDH Happy Dances. There are subtle variations.
+1
Are comments off? No way I could be first. To those who haven’t ordered from Graphic Audio before, all I can say is I’ve never been disappointed.
I have really enjoyed GA as well and I have found other authors that I have started to like as well there
That’s fabulous news! Graphic Audio is amazing, so I’m running, not walking, to place my pre-order.
LOUD CHEERS AND GREAT REJOICING!!!
Yes!!!! Thanks for the updates and, as someone who is confident using Audible but not a lot else, I appreciate a simplified, single release date. Saving my credits for these!
Not apropos of the Graphic Audio news but thought the BDH would like to know that the Horde has come through again and the Arcane Society edition of IRON AND MAGIC/BLOOD HEIR is now sold out. Maybe this sell through will encourage either Arcane or Subterranean to do a hardcover edition of BURN FOR ME.
Anne in Virginia
I would love to help with that but Arcane Society don’t sell to my country. :'( But I am happy that the book did well. <3
I am so glad I pre ordered…
Is there an “I can’t wait” dance for the BDH? 😹😹😹
Too much fun! And a bonus package for Magic Slays. Excellent!
yeshhhh
Yay for the Graphic Audio release. I’m just relistening to all the graphic Innkeeper releases. They are wonderful.
And I am in the top ten!
I love Graphic Audio. I used to never listen to audiobooks, because I found they were just boring, with just a narrator. After discovering graphic audio, that’s all I use when I travel across the country. Absolutely my favorite!
+1!! Same with me! I was always having trouble listening to the “normal audiobook”, since, at some point, my brain just recognizes them as “white background noise” 😂 doesn’t happen wir graphic audio 🥳
Mom says it’s like listening to radio Dramas when she was a child

Hubby and I are listening to the GA version of Clean Sweep and thoroughly enjoying it. He’s never read it, so it’s fun hearing it through his ears for the first time. He laughed so hard at the scene where the vamps first show up. It’s acted really well and so funny.
Looking forward to digging in to all these listens.
so excited for the next GA installment! Magic Slays GA is still not yet showing for preorder on Audible (US), do you know when it will be available for preorder?
The preorder only appears after Audible have checked the audio files, which haven’t been completed yet, so it will be a lot closer to release day – sometimes only a few days earlier.
TWO MONTHS IN A ROW of GA Kate releases??? Yay!!
It took me a long time to try out GA books. But I now do enjoy them. What sold me are the excellent actors. It seems they are much shorter than reg audiobooks. Why is that?
Because they are not the regular unabridged audiobooks. The material is first turned into a script appropriate for a dramatized adaptation 🙂 . Most of the action beats are replaced by acting and sound effects- there’s no reason to tag “he laughed”, “the sound of his steps faded” etc. The actors deliver the line laughing, the sound of footsteps is included.
Also, dialogue goes a lot faster when there’s a to-and-fro dynamic between several people than one person reading it.
This is one of the reasons why i love it so much!
Thanks for the info! I’m going to have to go back and reread Magic Gifts. I can’t seem to place it, tho I’m sure I’ve read it!
It’s at the end of Gunmetal Magic, at least in the print edition.
Aaaaand, preorder complete! If anyone is on the fence (they’re amazing, but the way) they are having a 35% off selected titles sale that ends today. 🥳
Word of advice, if they aren’t currently having a sale, just give it a little bit of time. They do have frequent sales.
Is the Texas fire affecting the air quality index(AQI)? Is HA far enough away & up wind from the smoke? Please stay safe!
Hi An, thank you for worrying. We are okay. There is about the same distance between us and the fire as between Portland and Sacramento.
That is a fair distance. About what I thought, actually. I’m very happy you’re not anywhere near the fires.
Phew! Glad to hear your household is safe. 🙂
Glad to hear you are all safe & far away& hope it stays that way!…However I live in rural California & considering the fires we’ve had, those distances are sadly not as great as I’d like 🙁 **Side note-CalFire has been doing strategic burns all winter and PG&E is finally putting people on the ground to assess the infrastructure, so hopefully this coming summer will be less scary. Met one of the assessment guys they brought in from the Midwest & he got the borderline power poles in our area re-anchored until they can replace them. He even got them to take the prevailing wind direction into account. I am very appreciative as we’ve already dealt with evacuating 30 horses to a better location in under 15 minutes in spite of the helicopters & planes buzzing us on their way to pick up retardant & dumping it. (Thanks to our CHP! 4 officers in their tac vests leading white eyed horses with us was memorable) Got some of the pink stuff on my glasses & boots while we were helping our neighbor push back a spot fire until they dropped that beautiful line of retardant between the fire & her house. Those pilots are crazy wonderful people!! They were flying 747’s low enough for me to see the hinges on the cargo doors & line up the retardant so that it overlapped in a solid line for miles, and we are in the mountains! That’s impressive when the Blue Angels do it but with a passenger airplane? WOWWW👏😘 Anyway, I never want to experience that again IRL and hopefully you never have to! I still get anxiety when I hear a chopper flying low but tell everyone who complains about taxes how the CalFire air support upgrades & additional Sikorskys bought the winter before were what made the difference for us
Thank you for sharing your experience. What an incredible, stressful time. I’m glad you made it and wishing you, your family and your horses a much more relaxing, safer summer.
Thank you!! And a safe & lovely summer to you & yours as well!
Glad you’re far away from the fire and congrats on the GA editions.
Sending love and good wishes to the people of Texas.
Yipppeeeee!
I’m starting a list of Innkeeper quotes I may incorporate into a sampler. Today’s from One Fell Sweep: ‘She is a lovely girl, very good with an energy rifle’.’Rippercushions’ is on the list of course. Anyone have any favorites to suggest?
love this idea, works be cool to ser the results
Love GA….pre-ordered
I usually get GA from my local library but I did splurge and by the Humble Bundle with Inn Keeper.
Thank you for the heads up! I’ve been pre-ordering all the HA titles as soon as they are available.
I am having so much fun with the Graphic Audio versions of the audiobooks! My library has ALL of them to date-squee!! I’ve never been good at imagining voices, so now that I have them in my head, it makes the books even richer—especially Doolittle, (post Reaper) Derek & Jim. Also, listening to the ‘Dead Boot’ scene from Questionable Clients made me laugh so hard! It was entertaining in the book but the GA adaptation had me bent double laughing. Thanks for that! Scene really came alive!!!
Got the humble bundles and the others on audible.
I had only ever used Audible before and I have an iPhone so it took a bit for me to figure out how to listen to the stuff from HB (app called mp3 books seemed simplest).
Now I listened to all of them and wondering when the next one will come out.
I know there is the Roman serial and the Iron series with Hugh I think was next. Is there any tentative ideas of what will be worked on next? More Ryder or Maggie or Sweep? Not to hold you to anything, just curious.
No, plans aren’t announced that far ahead, nor known most of the time 🙂
Lol, I read the second half of the title of this blog post as “there will be gifts from Graphic Audio” and wondered what they might be. haha!
I get new credits from Audible in April, so these release dates are all perfectly timed from where I’m sitting. 🎉
Huzzah on the audio release!
As a random aside, I just realized today that I’ve been hardwired to associate ancient monsters with the Kate Daniels world. I just saw a post about the Mušḫuššu monster depicted on the Ishtar gate of Babylon and my first instinct was to ask whether it had shown up in any of the books. ;P
whoo hoo. I got in and placed my order before the rest of the hord broke the GA Internet 😄
I really love GA. The movie in your mind is not exaggerating. Personally I prefer books but since English is my second language I use it for improving my hearing/understanding.
But! And isn’t there always a BUT? There are yet not many books narrated. And a lot of them are western adventures which I’m not interested in. Even if I love fantasy in all it’s appearances I would prefer a wider variety of themes and of course a lot more of books narrated.
Small selection until now but I’m hoping for more.
Miriam, here is a suggestion. I am really enjoying the GA adaptations of Fred, the Vampire Accountant, by Drew Hayes. They revolve around the adventures of Fred, a human accountant who was turned into a vampire but just kept doing his accounting thing while learning about the paranormal world. There are all kinds of paranormal creatures, action, a little romance, and wry humor. The series has 8 books, although each book is more like a collection of related novellas. The list is at https://www.graphicaudio.net/our-productions/series/f-j/fred-the-vampire-accountant.html.
Thank‘s I‘ve already got it
can‘t wait💐😊
We are headed n a big trip soon and I will now have new listening from HA! Feels like a birthday! 🥳
I apologize if I missed this, but is there a text version of these novellas to be released?
Magic Slays and Magic Gifts are both already released- as print books, ebooks etc. They are both part of the main Kate Daniels series https://ilona-andrews.com/katie-daniels-books/
Only one of them is a novella, Magic Gifts (Kate 5.5). Magic Slays is a full length novel, the 5th in the series.
These adaptations are my favorites. Can’t wait for more!
yay!!! I cherish these GA adaptions.
I’ve always wondered, who would be the better swordsperson between Kate and Sophie (lark)? Any chance of a feature/crossover of both worlds?
The only crossover is between the Edge and Innkeeper worlds, due to the nature of inns 🙂. No further one are planned at this moment.
The Kate Daniels series on Graphic Audio are SO FREAKING GOOD! Nora A. and Michael G. are perfect for Kate and Curran. Jim is done to perfection too. I ended up buying all of them and then re-reading the series again for the gazillionth time.
Got the first two Innkeeper books in a Humble Bundle a little while back and gosh the full audio experience is just wonderful. I’ll have to see if I can pick this one up when it’s out.
