Kid 1 has complications following wisdom tooth removal surgery. She has an infection and possibly a dry socket and is in a lot of pain. She went for the follow up, and the dentists basically gave her a stronger amoxylin, and that’s it.
Fence guys may or may not be coming to replace fence, because Granddog Artha escaped again and today Charles Tubbins squeezed his fat butt through the same fence. Why would you take out a perfectly good wooden fence and replace it with iron fence that is clearly improperly installed? Why? They actually pierced a pipe when they put that fence in and then patched it up badly, so we ended up with a leak in the garage.
I just sent this email, offered here without context, “As long as we can get him to do that Mr. MacBroodypants look he did in that one shot, nobody will care about her shoes.”
We have less than 70 pages left on Kate’s edit. We will need betas soon. Unfortunately these 70 pages are super labor intensive.

Use clove oil on the dry socket area. I will sting a little at first, but it will fade. It will numb the area for a short period of time, reduce swelling in the area, and help fight infection. That was what my dentist advised me to do.

Clove oil works well, just make certain to dilute it with vegetable oil.
Yes, I also do this with mouth sores. It stings a little at first but it numbs the pain and seems to speed healing. *Cross fingers*
My dentist advised me to use a salt wash for infection. As well as antibiotics had all pain and most of the swelling done in 2 days. Wash out two or three times a day with warm water with as much salt as will dissolve in it.
Totally agree with a good salty swirl. Use some organic salt and go for gold. Hope she gets better. Infection is no joke.
When I’ve had dry socket I’ve had very good results with artificial butter spread applied to the socket.

When I had my wisdom teeth out, and got dry socket, clove oil was recommended by my dentist. It worked quite well as a topical anesthetic – and made *everything* taste like cloves, but in as much pain as I was in, I was willing to go for it. (That was a lousy week. My sympathies to Kid 1.)
Ditto. It’s total ick taste, smell, and otherwise but does numb the dry socket.
…I did also get percoset, I’m fairly certain. (This was one of the early experiences with how much I hate anesthetic, and the bad reactions I have to opiates, so the clove oil stands out as much more of a plus.)

I have worker issues today too. Electrician wanted $80 to fix the light he replaced in Oct {he didn’t check dust to dawn cell at the time. I just now needed it}. He left a huge ditch where he poorly trenched the electric line to front gate. Fifty feet of hole I’ll have to have someone fix {This is in front of the house and messes up the driveway} I looked back, 2 months to get half the work done last fall, now after at least 5 standups since Oct he was surprised I got pissed.

It’s worth giving Kid 1 some probiotics to help with the tummy trouble that strong antibiotics usually bring. Have her eat some yogurt, at least.
And if she can’t stand yogurt, Cottage Cheese comes with probiotics (Activia Brand).

Sounds like you need some chamomile tea and a nap or a time out. We had a lab/retriever cross that would climb the chain link fence of the dog pen, under the clubhouse, in the yard and almost be back to the house before you. We ended up using wire because she chewed through the rope. We had her on a chain for a while to keep her in the yard so she chewed off the bottom of the fence so she could get out and sit in the alley still on the chain. She was the sweetest dog and loved hunting. She’d see the guns and load up in the back of the pickup ready to go. My boys let me read in bed on Sunday morning and she’d lay down with me with her head on the extra pillow until I got up and stripped the bed. We really missed her when she passed, such a character.
We had a black lab Tia that did not hunt but was great at catching the fish in the tidal flats across the road at high tide. We lost her @ 16 to cancer and still grieve her 20 yrs later. Sweetest giri on four paws.
I too experienced dry socket and was miserable. The dentist was so empathetic, he said “ I’m so sorry there isn’t much that can be done. I don’t know why this happens to the nice people and never seems to happen to the shitheads.”
So we all have that going for us.
When I had my wisdom teeth out, the left side of my face swelled up — was noticeably swollen compared to the right side — and I think I was on antibiotics for a good two months because of an obvious infection. (Plus, you could feel the fever in my jaw on the outside of my face.) My diligent tongue kept poking at the spot and one day I felt something sharp prick my tongue. POKE-POKE-POKE-POKE-POKE Finally this little sliver of bone worked its way out of the gum. It was flat and serrated on all sides and no more more than a couple mm long. Once it was no longer in the gum, the infection went away and everything returned to normal. It was an un-fun two or three months, though.
When I had my wisdom teeth removed 22 years ago, they packed the holes with cloves for 3 weeks. I hated cloves then and hate them even more now! But no drysocket. Apparently, it’s a natural remedy that works.
I will send you virtual tea and chocolate, how’s that? Or maybe I will just have some and enjoy it for you . . . (My version of tea is to toss a bag of organic green tea in with the coffee as it’s brewing for ‘cofftea’, lol. But it’s the thought that counts, right?).

I once had a student bring me a cookie in his bare hand. He stood there waiting for me to eat it. I did. I knew he had lost his mother just a few months before to cancer.
That’s a beautiful story. Poor kid. It meant a lot to him that you enjoyed his gift.

I feel for Kid 1, there is no pain like dental pain. One of my bottom wisdom teeth became impacted and then infected before my surgery and nothing seemed to help. Swishing salt water also does help.
It is definitely a monday. I hope Kid 2 feels better soon, sometimes amoxycillin and time is what it takes.
Sinuses suck. Couldn’t decide between hot cocoa and tea, so making hot cocoa with mini marshmallows to drink now, brewing a pot of tea for after lunch. Chocolate and tea! Will dedicate a cup of each to you:-)

Hubs has torn apart my home library/office and is replacing with custom built shelves and desk (Yes, he is VERY handy), so all is chaos. I can not work in chaos. Visual chaos makes me crazy. I feel for your baby! I got dry socket and an infection after having 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed. So much pain I was in tears. Even worse, when the oral surgeon cleaned out one socket with a syringe. Heating pad on my cheek helped a bit. I missed some time from college since I had to go home to get it treated. My entire face was black and blue, which was good because my professors believed me about my absence! Maybe ask her regular doctor for a few pain meds. Really warranted. Wish her speedy recovery.

+40 billion on the cloves. If you soak a small piece of a cotton ball, she can bite down on that. Like others, my dentist made me do this when I had dry socket. (Dry socket is terrible.)
Best wishes for Kid 1. I’m glad she’s not allergic to the antibiotics to help with the infection. I have to let everyone who treats me know I’m allergic to the entire cillin family. Mine is genetic. I learned the hard way when I was at teen. It’s a horrible allergy to have.

Wisdom teeth are a pain, literally and figuratively. When I had mine out my husband left for 12 weeks and I had a small baby. Such fun. You have dogs getting out and we have deer getting in. Why can’t service people do their jobs conscientiously the first time. Makes me wonder. I hope that all goes well and quickly. I imagine those edits are very intense. There must be a bitter sweet feeling to them. I hope that all goes well soon.

Man, am I glad my wisdom teeth extraction was uneventful. I didn’t even get a fun video of me on drugs. (My brother has a great video of his oldest son after he had his pulled.) They gave me a Valium, or maybe it was Prozac, and they were pleasantly surprised as how calm I was as they tugged those teeth out. No problems afterwards. Except I think I tried eating before the numbing shot had worn off and I ended up chewing the hell out of my inner cheeks. That did hurt once the numb stopped being numb.
I wire fencing like chicken wire or sheep and goat fence size openings. Most Walmarts have it in at least 2 ft by 25ft sections in the garden section if there isn’t a Home Improvement store near you. Then you can use it to make a garden after you get the fence fixed. Sending mental tea and chocolate happy vibes! Besides I can only send mental, I’m out of corporeal chocolate.

Son the One uses buried double wire, with logs and cement blocks on top. He has doxies and a beagles. Excuse me, dachshunds.
I can’t recommend the salt water rinse enough! I had a double infection after my wisdoms were pulled (right after I had my braces off too….I was less than pleased). After every meal, and once inbetween is what I did. My mom also picked up those medicinal syringes (the plastic ones to give kids liquid medicine), and I doused the tooth holes with it too. The extra pressure from the water helped clean everything out for me.
Also, ice packs. Gotta love ice packs.
I also had double infections after getting my wisdom teeth pulled. The gums healed on the surface, so the dentist had to slice them back open (not fun). I as well used the salt water rinse with syringes, and it speeded the recovery (and cleaned any debris from each tooth hole as Mmg mentioned).
I am indeed sorry to hear about Kid 1’s infection and pain – and hope she heals and feels better quickly. I know it isn’t funny when dogs get out of their fences (mine decide to make a break for the wide open spaces, or at least the horses next door, every once in a while and my heart is in my throat until they are safe home again), but your description had me chortling. ? I hope you get the fencing figured out soon.
I completely understand you not trusting consumables from unknown sources. What a shame it is that there are nut jobs who WOULD and have sent people something bad. Sigh…I just don’t understand the venom and evil behind such things!!! Unfortunately they do happen, so you have to be safe rather than sorry!! The one in a million who would do something like that ruins it for the rest of us who would love to be able to send you a little treat with some love – as you have given us so much pleasure. Had a dry socket while in service. Dr soaked some cotton in clove juice and stuck them in the hole. Hole went in to sinus and I couldn’t sneeze.
That and ice packs.

I got sidetracked by the dogs! I missed any drama with my wisdom teeth other than I thought he was going to put both feet on my head for leverage when he pulled them out. The numbing wore off just as I walked out of the office. Sorry to hear she is having issues with her extractions and hope she heals quickly. I was craving chocolate so much I finally made the fudge I skipped at Christmas. It sure is good and it freezes well. Seriously, I’ve taken to making a cup of chamomile tea about 11p.m. after I get home from my second job. It helps me shut down my mind and I wake up in a better mood even with less sleep. I’m not enjoying ten hour workdays but I have a goal so I’m persevering.

My kid 1 got an infection in one of her wisdom tooth extraction sites and then it got infected again two weeks after the first course of antibiotics. This was last August/September. It was truly upsetting. Sorry yours is feeling poorly. Hope she feels much, much better soon.

I’m so sorry your daughter is miserable. I’m wishing her pain free and fast healing. Re the fence – our four foot fence is iron and has a bottom three foot wire fence that my chihuahua simply climbs. So I bought a special harness that has a horizontal bar across the top so she cannot climb up wire fence and then squeeze thru the iron fence. Would that work for your dogs? It might help if that is the problem. Good luck with your daughter and the fence!
