Hi everyone, Mod R here.
The blog has been a bit quiet this week, and that’s because a lot of surprises are brewing backstage. You will hopefully see all of them soon (like next month soon).
But surprises take a lot of backstage admin tasks, and admin takes a lot of time out of writing, and I’ve been sworn to secrecy, but maybe some of the surprises require writing, who knows, not I, don’t even try to get it out of me! ::shifty side eye::
In the meantime, we have heard how much you miss FrInnDays and checking the blog for something to kickstart the weekend and have Horde funnies about. So do we!
The blog will feature a new beloved Ilona Andrews character every Friday, including backstory goodies we haven’t heard before, discussion on fan favourite scenes, questions, character development, tropes, ships and everything in between! And the best part is, the Horde gets to vote on which character they want to see take the stage. I know how much you like polls hehe.
Without further ado, next week’s Star Character in the FrInnDay tent is:
- Arabella (25%, 1,931 Votes)
- Roman (22%, 1,738 Votes)
- Grandma Frida (16%, 1,211 Votes)
- Augustine (12%, 939 Votes)
- Cornelius (7%, 506 Votes)
- Barabas (5%, 400 Votes)
- Luther (5%, 383 Votes)
- Ilemina (5%, 353 Votes)
- Adira Kline (2%, 193 Votes)
- Jim (2%, 117 Votes)
Total Voters: 7,771
PS: I’ve deliberately not included certain characters from Innkeeper, because they appear in Sweep of the Heart, and not everyone has read the serial. So please, protect your friends and don’t ask spoilers until release day on December 13th.
If there’s something you are dying to know which is an Innkeeper spoiler, you can email me directly at modr@ilona-andrews.com

yay!! I have been missing you ????
Siobhan says
I picked Augustine, but I easily spent ten minutes trying to figure out how to pick “all of the above.” I mean, I picked Augustine because I just finished rereading Ruby Fever for the umpteenth time (I’ve been binging on horror lately, and if you — I —read horror novel after horror novel without break, my mental health gets significantly worse. ESPECIALLY if it’s good horror. One to two GOOD horror novels/stories elevate me. Going on after that without a break is NOT good). Ilona Andrews and Kelley Armstrong are my first two picks for breaks. Possibly also because they both start with A, but mostly because all three of y’all are comfort food favorites.
But I WANTED to pick all of them. I’m so glad we’re maybe going to GET all of them, just maybe Augustine FIRST.
Breann says
Is it a coincidence that Augustine also starts with an A? ????
Siobhan says
Only if this list was also in alphabetical order — I can only see the results now, and didn’t note it at the time.
But I was so torn between Augustine and Roman, that I think this time, being close to the beginning of the list wasn’t a factor.
My inherent laziness didn’t come into play ????.
Oona says
Almost got him, but then went with Roman. Would love some backstory on Augstine tho… 🙂
Judy Schultheis says
It was a tough choice. You had both Arabella and Luther. But I had to go with Arabella.
Next time, I’ll vote for Luther – as an individual, he’s my favorite of the Kate Daniels characters. I love quite a few of the others, too – but they’re best in combination with one or more of the others.
Sue F says
I did vote for Luther, and will appreciate the company next time, since I’m one of only four votes so far …

I couldn’t decide between Luther or Roman, so I chose Augustine! LOL! Ya know the old “well if I can’t decide between cake or brownies, pick cookies” ideas.
Next time, I’m going Luther.

That was a hard poll. I do hope we can repeat some of the same characters for the next poll. Honestly I will be happy with whichever character is chosen but while I was reading down the list I thought…oh I should pick this one….no wait this is also a good choice…ohh I would like more information on that character….so all the characters is the best choice but also exciting to get to choose. I am randomly curious about Ilemina and House Khrar how she and her consort met.
jnet says
Yes! Ilemina meeting Otubar, from Otubar’s point of view!
Please, HA, someday?
Oona says
Yes. This. Hard choices. Maybe next poll ranked choices? 1. Augustine 2. Roman 3. Luther?
Niki in Philly says
Missed the poll but I’m happy Roman will get to be center stage totally would have picked some from KD! Especially Barabas & family!!
kommiesmom says
Huh.
I picked Ilemina and expected her to be at the bottom of the list, not 5th.
Thanks for the chance to vote.
I am fine with everybody on the list. I just love to screw with the curve…
Emily says
I have some genealogy questions about Ilemina.
She left her House (name unknown?) to marry Arland’s dad so how does she end up in charge of House Krahr as an in-law, especially now that she’s divorced or widowed? What happened to Arland’s dad?
Is Soren her brother or brother-in-law? He tells Dina the cousin would betrayed them in the first book was from the other side of the family.
Is Arland’s grandpa, the Bloody Butcher of Odar, his paternal or maternal grandfather? It sounds like he is still alive and remembers Caldenia trying to poison him.
John says
These are some fun questions! I hope we find out a few of them in future installments of the InnKrahrper Chronicles.
I thought it was implied heavily in Sweep of the Blade that Ilemina and Soren are siblings. Does that make the original Maven Soren and Ilemina’s sister?
So Ilemina married into Krahr, defeated her parents House in the war they started about it, and took her siblings into House Krahr where they clawed their way into leadership positions?
All while the marriage that started it all foundered?
That would be a crazy narrative.
House Krahr being run by people who weren’t House Krahr a generation ago goes a long way to argue ‘Adapt or Die’ isn’t just something they say on Kahari.
My guess is either his father died or entered whatever the Anocracy’s preisthood is. It appears to be something entirely separate to the Houses, extremely powerful, and Houses track their success by how many times they have supplied the Anocracy a Hierophant.
It might also be funny if Arland’s grandfather was in a Krahr dungeon and Arland would go visit him and talk to him from time to time. (Maybe a bit to like Roland and Conlan, though.)
Jean says
Arland’s father died in House warfare. Ilemina is married to Lord Otubar. Arland and his step father have a contentious relationship, but both of them love Ilemina very much.
Oona says
I must have missed Caldenia poisoning a Vampire.. cause I flat out don’t remember where that tid bit showed up? Not that she wouldn’t of course..
Moderator R says
You want Caldenia’s first meeting with Arland in Clean Sweep ????
Kamrin says
There was no wrong choice in there, although I had trouble picking who I wanted first also lol. I’m so excited!!!!
gingko-girl says
What fun!!!!!
And that is a super hard list to choose from. I would be happy with any of these characters taking center stage.
Thank you for working so hard to keep us entertained!
Happy Weekend!
njb says
Fun! And quite hard to decide really. I wouldn’t mind a backstage look at any of them.
Sue F says
What an awesome idea! I was definitely missing Frinndays. Thank you HA and ModR!
May I please ask for Damian Angevin, from the short at the end of Blood Heir (and the source of Julie’s Tower badge) to be included in the “vote” list some day. For some reason I fell in love with his snark, and would love to know more about how things are (or are not) working out for him and Erra. I’m sure he won’t float to the top for quite a while, but maybe at some point…
Sue F says
Oh, and maybe someday Yu Fong as well…
Ms. Kim says

Megelza says
+1 for Yu Fong!
My vote was for Grandma Frieda. There are so many wonderful characters in IA books. I’d love to read more about any of them. Snippets or stories—they’re all great pick-me-ups and add joy to life.
Big Mike says
Yu Fong vs Derek for the hand of the Princess of Shinar! Epic!
But I think the Princess has made up her own mind
Alison says
Oh yeah! Damian and Yu Fong! Good idea!
V says
Awesome snark!! +100
Oona says
Yes. A good one. One of the smaller but ‘real feel’ characters. Our Author Lords are very gifted at creating characters people relate to and crave to read about, are they not? It’s like hearing Rob and Austin sing Opera. Country singers sing Opera? Well, if you are really gifted singer and study I guess you can sing any style you want. Our Author Lords are like that!
jing says
it’s a toss between Arabella and Roman…. I have RF hangover so Arabella it is
Super excited for the resurgence of Frinnday
Tink says
How many times can I vote? 😛
Dandufrenger says
Multiple votes seem to be allowed. It is at least 3.
Moderator R says
No ????. Only one option, it’s in the settings of the poll.
Dandufrenger says
I have made 3 votes for Roman and it looked like they all counted.
Dandufrenger says
Since it looks like it has been fixed, perhaps you should remove my posts.
And my extra votes.
Moderator R says
Nothing had to be fixed, you did not vote multiple times ????. Once the vote is recorded properly you cannot vote again, it just displays results.
You probably saw the count going up as other people were doing valid votes at the same time as your attempts.
Dandufrenger says
OK. Chalk it up to a browser problem. A refresh seemed to allow more votes. Once I went back to the top of the blog and refreshed, the page looked as one would expect.
Still, you could remove this branch as far as I’m concerned.
Tink says
I voted on my work computer, so technically I could vote on my home computer, my table, my phone, … In the spirit of the poll, though, I’ll stick to 1 vote. (Last I checked my choice, Roman, was leading the vote, so that will help me keep to the straight-and-narrow.)
NancyNancy says
I am rereading Ruby Fever, so that influenced my vote for Arabella. I’m very curious about her reaction to meeting Michael in the office of records even though it could Judy be, “eh, so what is all the fuss about him.” I just read the part where he “congealed” at the end of the row of bookcases when Atalina goes to res use her mom.
I also love Cornelius, and Roman and his Eeyore pjs. Actually would love to read about any and all of the characters. Thank you for the news of this lovely upcoming treat, and I look forward to Fri-whoever-days. I just had to have eye surgery to repair a torn retina (darned extreme nearsightedness) and reading HA books is the best thing I can do now that I’m past the days of pretty much 24 hours of lying on my stomach with my nose in the mattress and a small pillow under my forehead. I thought those 6 days would never end. HA is good for lowering the blood pressure too!
Jean says
Sending hugs!! ????????????
I had retina reattachment surgeries in both eyes. Time moves at a rather glacial pace that first week post-op. It will get better!
Nancy says
Thank you. I’m already seeing improvement – I can see the bottle of eye drops now, so miss my eye much less.
snapdragon says
I would enjoy anything written about the people on the list but I just needed to be contrary.
Jean says
I would buy a calendar with those men on it!! Hotties in business formal – Augustine, Cornelius, and Barabas. Hotties in field gear – Roman, Jim, and Luther. Just sayin’…..????????????
jewelwing says
Put me down for three, if we can get it by Christmas! Actually there are always birthdays, so it doesn’t have to be ready by then. But it would be nice.
Patricia Schlorke says
Don’t forget Christopher. Barabas didn’t want to see Christopher get a new suit when Kate needed him to go with her to the Casino. The suit looks good on Christopher. 😉

When you get to grandma Frida, can we find out more about grandpa Leon? I’ve been curious about him.

So excited to learn that new adventures are in progress! They were all good choices and I’d be happy to see each of them get a story as time permits.
Luiz says
People we have almost no backstory on Grandma Frida. She is the only member of the main cast we dont know about. We have Duncan and Victoria backstory Augustine Cornelius Runa Rogan his mother Alessandro and his mother and buggy even teddy the bear has his backstory on the bookbut nothing on Grandma Frida. Whats her history what her classification is she average or something else what about her dead husband whats their story and what are their families? We never heard of any balor distante relative from either her side of the family or the dead balor grandpa. We need 2 know more. Also my second pick is Luther couse we never learned enought about him and he is such fun and interesting character.
Ps Mod R I might be wrong but I dont remember all the tiers of magic being told 2 us. I know there is Prime significant average and at least another one that I cant remember the name but are those all there is and is that the sequence in power?
Moderator R says
“Magic users were segregated into five ranks: Minor, Average, Notable, Significant, and Prime.”
Andrews, Ilona. Burn for Me, Hidden Legacy Volume 1. Avon Harpercollins, 2014. Kindle edition, page 23
The reason we never heard about long lost Baylor relative from Grandma Frida or Grampa Leon’s side is because they are Aframs ????. Baylor is the assumed name James, their son in law, took. As for family, it’s explained in the book that Frida and Leon had their issues due to the fact they were an interracial couple, but we can go more into that when her time comes ????
Luiz says
Thank you. You are Rock Mor R ????
Luiz says
Ok sure I forgot the Aframs thing Im stupid like that lol. But it doesnt change my point we never heard about any distante relative from either grandma or grandpa Aframs we dont have their backstory at all. The only thing we know about them is that both were in the army and what their powers were but not their backstory and rank.
SoCoMom says
“but we can go more into that when her time comes ????”
Yippee! I voted for Grandma Frida, although I will happily read more about any in the survey. I want to know whom she will next target with Bride magazines – Arabella is due for sure 😀
Also, I would be interested if there is a story about the first machine she “heard” or if there is a special one from her memories. Did she have siblings? Because OMG imagine *that* household!
Kate says
Don’t forget “Dud.”
Sonson says
I 100% agree with this and also voted for Grandma Frieda.
I feel we’ve had some great backstories for Arabella, Luther and Roman already.
If you want to do more on Helen (Diva’s mum) I would be here for it
Big Mike says
With respect, I think there would have been more votes had you listed Dali instead or (better yet) paired with Jim. I think Jim by himself is boring, but paired with Dali …
But, yeah, I voted for Arabella.
Ms. Kim says
I was thinking the same thing. I would have voted for Dali. Instead I voted for Luther.

+1! I was so torn! I would love to read any of them, so it doesn’t really matter too much, but I decided to vote for who I felt I knew the least about. ????♀️

Thank you so much! I’ve been having withdrawl symptoms from the blog post!

Were I part of The Rabid, I’d offer Cookies(of your choosing) & Brownies, with organic Chocolate bits(wit/out nuts, again, of your choosing) for disclosures…, but am going to be nice and Not of ‘The Darkside’ that promises much, but doesn’t come through, once they have you…

You are absolutely right, cookies are excellent bribery tools.
If you encounter resistance, offer them apple pie!

R O M A N….said in the “Stella” yell from a street car…..come on ppl, Roman!!!
Patricia Schlorke says
I voted for Roman, too. As of now he’s second only to Arabella in the votes.
Let’s hear it for the guy who wears Eeyore pjs with confidence! 😀
SharonW says
I’m not overly anxious to hear about any one in particular, any and all extras are welcome. However, I would have clicked on Leon in a second.
Mags says
So random late night thoughts. How does vampire armor work if you are pregnant? Do you get maternity armor? Or do you just not wear it but have a bodyguard instead?
At what age do kids start wearing armor? Does it grow with them or are they constantly getting fitted for a new set? Or do they wear used armor from their siblings/ cousins/ community only during practice?
Do folks who aren’t martially inclined also wear armor? I’m just imagining trying to throw a clay pot on a wheel while wearing armor. It would probably be easy to clean at least?
Henry says
Arland’s cousin’s wife is from Earth, she lives on Dysen, and she doesn’t wear armor.
Catlover says
Couldn’t resist Arabella, the cool aunt.
Gail says
Hey, Mod R, when release day gets closer, maybe you would consider doing one of your fun trivia quizzes for Innkeeper world. That is, if you have time and energy.
Moderator R says
That’s a great idea! ????
Susi says
Thank you – such fun! All of the above (except Jim)
One day I’d love to hear what Derek got up to after Magic Triumphs …
Bob M says
I’m sure that will be in upcoming Blood Heir sequels.
Patricia Schlorke says
We get a little of what Derek was up to near the end of Blood Heir. However, I want to know how he became the beta of Ice Fury. I agree with Julie in that I would not want to be in the room when Curran finds out Derrek is back and the beta of Ice Fury. Whoa to that “conversation”.
V says
Why are we assuming Curran doesn’t know? Surely the leadership of the largest pack on the planet would be something he would track? Julie didn’t know, but it wasn’t a secret from the Atlanta pack leadership.
Moderator R says
Most people (interested in shifter politics) know that Darren Argent is the Beta of Ice Fury.
What is less known, however, is Darren Argent and Derek Gaunt being one and the same ????
Vianne says
Oooh, I like all of these!
Emily says
the tapas Innkeeper serial that drops each Friday helps fill the Friday void. . . love the little details like how Sean saved Dina’s contact info in his phone. ????
I’m excited for ALL the characters. hard to vote for one! thanks for being so good to the Horde.

Astrid says
I had to go for Cornelius because of … the heist – that’s all…
Kristi says
Just really want to say thank you for the Friday pick me ups and I am sure you know ( but have to say it just because that’s who I am) that just because I voted for Augustine doesn’t mean I don’t want to read about the rest!
????
Kelly says
Roman! Roman! Roman!????
Also, thank you. ????
Scott Patlin says
No Sophia? and I voted before remembering that Idira is probably Martin! That little minx. ☺️
Medein says
Help me out: Martin? Adira?
Moderator R says
I think Scott probably means Marten, the little street urchin Julie saves in Blood Heir ????
Adira Klein is a character in Sweep with Me, the Innkeeper novella, she’s the Drifán of Green Mountain
Scott D Patlin says
Yeah, I’m an audible listener, so my spelling of names is a little shaky!
Nancy Weaver says
Fun!!!! Fun is back!!!
DianaInCa says
While I voted for Grandma Frida, I would love any story. Thanks for the poll

staring at the poll for 5 minutes and discerning my innermost wants. And with a sigh clicked on Roman coze I haven’t had Roman for awhile.
Manda says
Vote for Grandma Frida
And desired inclusion of Michael and the Record Keeper please!
Kate says
I still picture Michael’s not-a-prime persona as being out with his tattoos covered up, ratty jeans, tennis shoes, and a (team name) sweatshirt, playing poker and drinking beer with his friends from high school. Now I’m also picturing Arabella running into him in his non-prime persona. How would they both react?
Marcia Sundquist says
OMG any or all, I’ll be glad ???? of anything they write.
Libby says
Love, love, love this. Fridays just don’t measure up to Frinndays.
Maria R. says
Isn’t that interesting, here I thought I’d be one of the few who doesn’t give a hoot & a holler about character who placed last.
Thank you for for this chance to vote for their back story. Have good feeling my vote will help character become top contender.
Sam says
Oh, I like this, thank you! But I think something is wrong with the poll, because there wasn’t an option to pick all of them… ???? ????
Moderator R says
One at a time, but no one left behind ????
Patricia Schlorke says
Are you saying we have to do that “p” word? You know the one that starts with p and ends in atient? That swear word of the BDH?
Angela says
All tough choices but Grandma Frieda makes me laugh – and I need more laughter in my life! Yes – I will read any and all of the above – but the woman plays with artillery rounds for fun!

It was between Luther and Adira Kline for me today although I’m always excited to learn about anything you guys want to teach me. Thank you. I’m so excited ????
Linda Trainor says
