Happy Wednesday, everybody. Today I bring you some news we missed while on vacation.
Jessie Mihalik’s Books and Broadswords
Happy belated book birthday to Jessie Mihalik!
From Jessie’s website:
This novella-length collection contains the two stories that were previously posted as free serials on the blog (Books & Broadswords and Rocks & Rapiers) as well as a new bonus epilogue as a thank-you for purchasing the book.
I fell down on promo for this a little bit since life has been busy recently, but I hope you enjoy spending time with Feora, Ansel, Baldric, and Zenira!

Jeaniene Frost’s New Book
Jeaniene Frost has some exciting news about her next project.
From Jeaniene’s Website
I’ve had people ask me “What’s next?” countless times. It’s probably seemed like I’ve been deliberately avoiding the question because, well, I was. You see, for the past year, I’ve been working on a new story set in a brand-new world, and I wasn’t sure if (1) I was going to self-publish it or traditionally publish it, or (2) if it was going to be one book or the start of a new series.
However, I’m excited to say that it IS a new series, and it will be traditionally published. So, you can find it when you shop at your local book store versus just ordering it online (though you’ll be able to order it online as well, of course.)
The title, release date, publisher, snippets, and other details will come later because contracts are still being hammered out, but could I wait until all of that was done to squee about this? Hell, no! 🙂 I’ve been thinking about these characters since I started writing the Bones point of view books. I’ve said before that whichever characters are loudest in my head are the ones that get their stories told next, and these characters were LOUD.
Read the rest of the press release here.
I have read this book. Well, I should say I have read most of the book. She sent me 85% and cut it off at the hottest point. I’m a super good friend because I haven’t badgered her for the rest of it. I just gently remind her every week that I would like the exciting conclusion.
I won’t tell you what it is about, but if I had to make a mood board for it, it would be the beautiful fantasy dresses, scary monsters, magical cities, Baltimore’s skyline with the sunset behind it, and a shockingly handsome man with aquamarine eyes brimming with violent magic.
Graphic Audio Preorder for Kate 7
Graphic Audio just posted the preorder link for Magic Breaks. This is one of my favorite Kate stories. I really liked exploring Kate’s family and the magic of Shinar. I “grew up” as an author on a steady diet of Leigh Brackett and Robert E. Howard. Shinar to me is the flower that grew out of that. It has the dark magic, the deadly swordsmen, the wonder, and the pathos.
Gordon and I are excited for this adaptation. We know Graphic Audio will do an incredible job with this book.

I have bought/read Books and Broadswords and it’s really cute. I can’t remember where but she described it as a warm hug of a book and it is. Nothing dangerous or scary or really bad happens. If you need a light pick me up, read it!

Being left on a large cliffhanger and not ‘accidentally’ doing a b&e or something involving duct tape to remedy the situation is indeed the halmarks of a good friendship. Hopefully you can finish it soon (looking forward to her publishing it).

I just read Jesse’s book this weekend. IT showed up in a “cozy fantasy” search. I hope she does a sequel.
Wilbur says
Book 3 is my favorite. Lots of exciting action at the Midnight Games along with a deepening of the attraction between Kate and Curran. Some of the best (funniest) lines ever written in the series involved Jim berating Kate and Curran after the first bout, and their responses. Jim: What happened to barely winning? Kate: You said sloppy: Look, I didn’t even use my sword. I hit him with my head like a moron. Jim: A man with a sword attacked you and you disarmed him and knocked him out in under two seconds.” He turned to Curran “Its not my fault he didn’t know how to fall.”
The Graphic Audio version of the scene had me laughing so hard my dogs had to check to make sure I was ok…
Tempest says
I usually listen to GA on the road. There are times I’ve almost had to pull over I was laughing so hard.
For those who might be concerned, these are fairly empty-ish West Texas highways.
MacGrani says
I’ve been a fan of Jessie Mihalik’s work since your very first recommendation! A heartfelt THANK YOU for some great adventures to fill the gap between you books. I’ve also been a fan Jeaniene since her first book as well.
Thank you all for the great adventures!
Margaret K says
Yay! New books from book friends. I will read them both. 🤗
The teaser copy for Jeaniene’s is perfect.
Anne-Laure says
The audio release announcement prompted me to re-read Magic Breaks, and I rediscovered Magic Tests that was attached at the end. As I also re-read Blood Heir recently I noticed that in both there is a reference to someone’s magic changing colour, towards lighter green. Is there a link between the wolf spirit in Magic Tests and whatever happened to Derek?!
